I've done just as bad if not worse. We had a Classroom Deathmatch game that ran for 14 hours and ended in tragedy (Like all Classroom Deathmatch games) which the players still seem to remember fondly. The student nationals is always fun too even if our tiny team will never win anything .Though I did break the entire Serenity Universe in a 3 hour game and I didn't even know what it was all about at the time. The GM was both impressed and horrified I think
It's DnD I have a problem with! 3.5 just has too much stuff for me. I like a game that's at least streamlined, not filled with around 3 billion different multi classes and prestige classes and 'broken as [censored] but the GM won't realise until it's too late' classes.
There's other roleplay systems too! Better ones! At the very least leave some time slots free to run other games! *Rant* *Rave*
Weirdest place for a role-play session so far for me? On a bus going to France. And no one else on it knew it was going to happen. -
Well this is a non starter, but i'll happily talk about how awesome Left 4 Dead is. I love it so much, even if the Easy and Normal levels should be relabelled 'Cakewalk' and 'Still a Cakewalk'
Tanks kick my butt in Expert. Stupid tanks.
As for The Other Game? Well I may even be suckered into playing that. And somewhere in all this I have to manage a society which the SU would love to disband so they can pinch our rooms and finish my Final Year project.
Having fun is getting to be too much work! -
That's what I meant yes! The ones who simply don't talk to people and lurk in the sidelines.
I do try to go talk to them! But sometimes I'm being lazy and just sit about instead.
Argh! Topic shift! Back on track!
I think I'm lucky that my Uni has a role-playing society. It's not large, but it's members have been there since forever so there's a good solid core group and they're keen to get people involved. With only one wierdo (You know the type) we're a society that can at least function in the real world and have even been out drinking a few times.
Of course stopping people playing DnD every loving night instead is still a chore, but I'm working on that. -
To be fair it's not hard to get on First name terms with anyone, you just ask. In fact the real trick is not getting on first name terms with people, Horizon's holding out for now!
I really do think you have to bug the ever living hell out of people to get into RP on CoH on some days (Or at least one longer than a few lines). Which is a shame, as I always feel a little bit guilty calling people up on it! Shy characters are best left for when people already know you as a player fairly well, as then you can bug them OOC to introduce themselves. At least I think that's how it goes.
When in doubt just stand in front of them all and say something, anything. It seems to work! -
I know people have been complaining about the Duskies not really getting out much recently. So how do fancy people having a Dusk Spider meet up and catch up today? Say at 8-9ish in the base?
Would be nice to see how the reject company are doing and I could do with a break from traditional RP I think to get my head straight! -
I've got over being ashamed at voicing how I feel a good while ago so usually i'll happily tell people about it, with what I hope are amusing stories to help take the edge off it.
It's easier if you just admit that, yes, it is silly but it's just good fun and not something super serious! I think most people find it weird because they expect we're taking it so seriously that we forget it's all just playing make believe and once you get them past that they usually don't seem to mind! -
Heh! Actually I do seem to have fallen into this problem myself again even on my mains.
Not sure what it is but I sometimes go whole nights without people actually responding to me, which is a little disheartening to say the least.
I guess it's just hard to hit the tone of GG sometimes and I only really do debate, action or light hearted stuff, which means if the statues currently not in one of those moods I'm less having a conversation with people and more running a commentary on a conversation happening nearby.
Or possibly it's when half the statue dips into plot stuff and getting involved in that always seems even more teeth pulling and frustrating than just getting a hello out of people at times! It'd be nice if people would at least explain this stuff when asked or move it away from the statue if that's not an option, so others don't get totally excluded when all the 'in' people join in.
Or perhaps I'm just playing characters people don't want to talk too! It's hard to tell!
I'll have to work on it I guess as it's causing my characters to get a little moody, which means I'm getting a little moody and I don't RP to wind myself up! -
I use it on my hobby section for job interviews along with LARP. It's good as theyre always interested, I can talk about it without seeming TOO mad and it's a lot more interesting that putting down "Reading, socalizing and movies"
I don't really throw it out there unless people ask though. Roleplaying and LARP are very much not a spectator sport! -
To be fair most of that only really seems to happen in Paragon.
I always thought all the Heroes went to Paragon as a kind of way of letting the rest of the public get on with their normal lives! -
If it ever actually rains in Paragon City I think all the plants will cry out in joy. How do they even survive? Poor things.
Add in the total eclipse for the past few weeks and they can't be happy at all. -
I did realize today it's likely Horizon would vote McCain, which is weird as there's no way I would!
Emily One wouldn't vote, being distrustful of the process in general. -
Well I do try to talk to everyone. Horizon is keen to have everyone know her name and Emily just can't sit on the fence when people are having an argument.
It may feel like butting in, but as long as you're not spiteful when you do it really it's fairly easy to get into a conversation.
Otherwise I fall back on these few extra handy ways.
1 Knowing people's names without asking.
Half the statues famous after all! And people really seem to take notice when you bust out thier name without being told it.
"How did you know my name? I never told you my name!" "Uh... your like one of the richest people on the planet and famous to boot" "Oh yeah..."
2 Persistently saying hello to one person.
And I do mean persistent.
3 Telling a story.
I usually go with a slightly extended "[censored] faction X, they're a real pain who's with me?" if the statue isn't willing to talk about how easily they destroyed five billion Malta on their lunch break then it's REALLY not a day to introduce a new character.
4 Asking out loud for help with something.
Doesn't really matter what as long as they don't have to move to answer the question. People always want to be knowledgeable. Then you can segue into the "Thanks, I'm Whoever. What's your name kind soul?"
Then you can wonder how you've suddenly become a nun. But that's your own problem. -
Trice tilts her head to one side thinking silently to herself. Her disguise finally fades away, a blue lizard woman with light blue spirals patterned in her skin slowly superimposing itself over the Guardian.
"Can I have Juices and Bloods? Please" pointing to a bottle behind the bar. "Have money" she proudly proclaims tapping the leather wallet on the bar.
Her head was feeling better at least and she starts to look around the bar for a voice to borrow with her psychic linking power. -
Trice was feeling a little groggy, it always happened as a disguise wore to an end and her speech was already fading back to normal. Skin rippling the faint trace of scales was seen along the Guardians face.
"Yes, like drink." she nodded to the Barman holding up a leather wallet. "Please" -
[ QUOTE ]
The Barman reappeared, the hands serving Primogen's drink. He looked around the bar, spotting the Longbow woman he walked up to her, his eyes a little bloodshot. Checking for a weapon, he spoke in a near demonic voice. "The costume legit? If it ain't you better have a good reason for dressing like that around here."
[/ QUOTE ]
The longbow guardian looked up from the drink she was nursing and smiled widely at the Barman "Oh hi! Work done, changing makes head fuzzy"
Tapping the glass with one hand she enquires with a slightly puzzled voice
"What is drink? Please?" -
Ducking their head into the bar, the familiar look of a masked Longbow Guardian looks about warily, the blonde pony tailed woman smiling to herself before their body follows.
Skulking over to the bar, she hops onto a bar stool and hold up a finger in the air waving it slowly.
"Can I have drink?" she asks in a short clipped tone. -
Horizon would be up for this, she's never been on girls night out.
Although by the sounds of it, there may be no survivors of this one! -
If she's weak too it then it's probably an even bigger weakness than Kryptonite and certainly makes you a little mortal!
After all, even the Hellions can get their hands on some weak magical items. -
[ QUOTE ]
Thing is the biggest problem in concept is I've effectively made Superman in a world without Kryptonite...
[/ QUOTE ]
But plenty of Magic. -
[ QUOTE ]
For at least my two main RP toons that is not possible.... As both are immortal and should came to Paragon already at their current (lvl 50) power levels. So the levelling while levelling up was just ignored IC.
[/ QUOTE ]
I usually ignore it IC too, just Horizon's got a slightly jokey explanation for it that quickly explains the main focus of her powers. It's all about the bracers! -
[ QUOTE ]
That doesn't mean she can cut through ANY thickness though... They're only 3 inches long, and a sufficient thickness of impervium WILL stop them (I figure maybe 2 cm tops). Her cell in the Zig was a foot thick wall of impervium.
I could go through all her different weaknesses on here, but I'm not just going to TELL people how to take her out..
[/ QUOTE ]
Having to wear a thick suit of Impervium to stand a chance in melee against her is a weakness? O.o -
Yes. I made a bad pun.
It's what I do. -
I've played an Uber character. Ulala. Who was a literal god of a planet.
However it was on the other edge of the universe and all she really was in Paragon, was a projection of herself and a very weak one at that. So i'm not sure it counts! It's not like anyone could have gone to visit. -
Think of putting all of GG into a room with all the PD regulars.
Chat spam, hooooo. -

Also if I don't have superstrength as a powerset I don't RP that my too has it, that to me starts to feel too "godly".
[/ QUOTE ]
That's actually a little bit of the reason Fans changed from SS/Will to Fire/Ice. It seems practically everyone has Superstrength anyway! Of course a desire to watch thing BURN also helped :>
