can't say what's in the patch... but YAAAY more bugs already!

Not that having actual information would stop you from whining, but many times if they are fixing exploits with a patch, they don't release notes on it as they tend to give a clue as to what the exploit was. Even if they think they've fixed a vulnerability, explaining what they did and why just gives people knowledge that makes it easier to find other exploits, or starts flamewars about why changing something was right/wrong.

now heres a question I have on VEAT's, .. yes this is a spot for i14 chatter, but this ties in
I'm seeing some things now when VEAT's hit, they were freeking awsome, now they been dumbed down becuse people that didn't want to play a Arachnos Trooper, complained they were too good, so then that went on for a little bit
Now I'm seeing alot of annoying bugs , the Redraw of the guns , yes redraw was fixed, now the guns are invisible 75% of the time
the Mace blast animation time was fixed, now they don't have one, the mace is held like you're onna swing, but insted the blast just happens, not makeing the bane happy ya know?
and the old issue with the waist Capes, al they'd need to do is make the belt have an option of Belt cape, Tada
now HOW dowes this tie into I 14?, well they gotta fix things anyways, and you know people want to make Arachnos NPC's and characters, So this would be the best time to fix that little mess up.. you know they one that was caused by makeing the Arachnos characters like everything else non epic?, yeah that one AKA the NERF =-)

speaking of i14... if they're in "closed beta" and all we've heard is "mission architect"... does this mean that's all that's going to be in i14?
or is someone just not telling folks anything about i14 other than the MA?
idiotic fanboi replies, feel free to self delete. -

Here's my little beef about this system (from the Blue side perspective). I don't really care for the "entertainment" or Holo-deck explanation for this tool. If I'm role playing, would a hero actually go to a store and make a "simulated" game for other heroes to play? This doesn't seem to really fit into the general theme of the game-- fighting bad guys-- not simulated bad guys.

plus, this is pretty much just like a danger room (x-men) scenario. don't (or didn't) the fantastic four have robots and such that Mr. F would create to hone the team's fighting skills?
i'm sure there's a number of other comic book examples, with those being the two that jump into mind immediately for me. -
this sort of thing seems to have been well received (creating your own content) when ryzom did it... not sure if ryzom's was just missions, or if it included areas as well.

So what a bunch of people want with issue 14 is to have the ability to create a map and farm non stop....although honestly it would be easier for people to cut and paste the badges that they wanted? Would that solve your problem? Why even bother to have the other maps? Why bother to have the other in game content? If those that farm all they want is the badges and accolades just create an instanced mission where everything is level 1 and you are level 50....Why bother with this issue then? I believe it is going to cause more annoyance than what it will be worth.
Or better yet perhaps the Devs should set up the game to allow everyone to buy the badges that they want with influence.
[/ QUOTE ]
but, you're ok with the absurd ease that currently exists for farming inf/pres/merits/etc?
it's just the farming of non-native (ie villains getting crotoa mobs) kill badges that bothers you?
because it's equally insanely easy, currently, to find farmable missions for most all native kill badges, or find areas that say have tons of rikti monkeys constantly spawning, to farm.
incredibly selective in the taking of offense there, if that's the case. -

You can already very easily get the maps of enemies needed by repeatedly using oroborous. With that in existence, I again so no need for the devs to make it easier to farm when they haven't put a lock down on the farming they don't like.
[/ QUOTE ]
the devs must love farming then, as someone stated a few posts up --- no xp gain = uber farming.
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually that was a direct response to folks complaining they out leveled arcs and would have debt cap themselves to not out level them.
EDIT: Regardless would be silly for them to allow players to BUILD THEIR OWN FARM MAPS.
[/ QUOTE ]
sillier than allowing incredibly easy access (ouroborous) to numerous farming maps that are pre-made?
that you don't have to outlevel because you're utilizing ouro? that you can redo time and again?
not seeing the logic behind that argument anymore than it's ok to farm merits/xp/inf/prestige/salvage but not ok to get kill badge credits in a player made scenario. -

edit: and it's not an mmorpg.com thing other than they're not having anyone fact check their correspondents. pretty much all redpill's articles have been um, of the same caliber.
i would just like clarification on whether starting a new account with the mac pack does or does not give you 12 free character slots... because, that is what redpill has posted, and until they take away that "correspondent" by her name -- people will believe her statements.
also, do the 30 days of gametime count towards a vet badge or not?
i'd like to have someone official from here to give an answer so that it is not simply my word and so people won't be buying/not buying based upon erroneous caveats made by someone with "correspondent" by its name.

The answers to your questions are the following:
Does starting a new account on a Mac Pack grant 12 character slots?
This can be a confusing question because of the history behind character slots. With the original product 'City of Heroes' users received with their subscription 8 character slots. When 'City of Villains' launched that number was increased to 12 character slots for any users that purchased that product. Last November when NCsoft Acquired the City of Heroes Franchise all editions of the game were back coded to be inclusive of both City of Heroes & City of Villains thereby making all accounts reflect the 12 character slots. With the launch of Issue 12: Midnight Hour, Positron made this Announcement which effectively outlined our Character Slot Purchase Feature along with corresponding Veteran Rewards for long term subscription holders. Players can now have a maximum of 36 characters per server.
Which is where the confusion is creeping into this situation. Some current users reading the 12 Character Slots bullet of the Mac Edition are interpreting that to mean 12 additional character slots which would be in addition to the 12 you start with on a new account. The marketing of this product is for new users and the product for new accounts grants 12 character slots only. Users that are upgrading their current account so they can get the game time, mission teleporter, and costume items will be receiving no additional character slots. This question has already been asked previously in this thread but I gave a more comprehensive answer here as there is still some residual confusion.
Does my purchased game time count towards Veteran Rewards?
Yes, your purchase counts towards Veteran Rewards, when you apply the "upgrade" to your current account you should see some changes in your billing statement. For example if your subscription was currently set to bill you on Feb. 10, 2008, after applying the code it should state next bill due Mar. 10, 2008. This billed time counts towards your Veteran Rewards. If you do not experience the above scenario when upgrading your account, or if you have created a new account instead of upgrading your current account then please contact our billing support through PlayNC Support and select Account Support on the drop down options where applicable.
Any additional questions I'd certainly be happy to answer.
As for MMORPG.com Correspondents there is a specific process for people to apply for these positions, it is a volunteer position and one we are happy to see emerge. I have contacted the Community Manager from MMORPG.com and asked for an introduction to our assigned correspondents. Opening the lines of communication will help to promote, educate and enhance the experience for MMORPG.com & City of Heroes end users. Your feedback is important to us and we do realize this process happens through many sources.

and for mmorpg.com, unless you're going to be writing the articles for all of the correspondents... well, go read all of the articles by the different mmorpg.com correspondents for yourself. they do speak for themselves.
edit: just so there's no confusion, what we're talking about (the correspondent), this wasn't an official news announcement on the site, that was already there... this was a thread on the forum, where she copy/pasted the mac announcement and then made/defended "caveats".
so, the only reason "correspondent" was brought up, is because she made the post and vehemently defends everything she types as gospel. it wasn't an official news item, it was just another of her threads. -

another question from the same post on mmorpg.com. the coh correspondent states (quite vehemently, because this one time, at band camp, she called customer support), that the 30 days you're paying for with the mac pack is *free* time and therefore *free* time does not count towards your veteran time.
does the 30 days that comes with the $20 mac pack, count towards vet time? for that matter, do "any" of the free time you get count towards vet time? the coh correspondent rambles on both ways, and ends up saying she has a few months free time on her account, after stating that people are making their "usual stories" about having more vet time than paid time.
http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/218717
It does sound dumb doesnt it? However, like it or not, its actually the truth. I do believe I covered it in my article about the Lusca Raid. Any time you participate in one of those "Get a month for free," deals, that month does NOT count toward your Vet Rewards. Only paid months count. And even though the cost of the MAC package is enough to include the cost of a subscription, that is not all it includes. It is being marketed complete with the first month's paid subscription for free. That first month subscription likely does NOT count toward your Vet Rewards then, but as of yet I've had no verification of this. To those who are hung up on badges and the associated bling, this may be a serious consideration, and worth the two month wait and the extra $5 bucks.
But it's nice that you recognize it all as good information anyway.
If I cannot quote CoX Customer Support, who am I to believe? The likes of you?
Wikked, I never said the beginning month that came free with a new game/account counted against Veteran's Rewards. I said it MIGHT ---AND I said that I wasn't sure. Only after I was challenged by you two did I explain my reasoning, which referenced the FACT that non-paid subscription months do not count toward Vet Rewards. As I stated, this comes from CoX Customer Support, because I once found myself one month short of what I was owed in Vet Rewards, and this is what THEY told me, in person, on the phone. I had at one point extended an invitation to a friend to join CoH, and recieved the one month subscription for free as a reward. However it was classified as an unpaid month when counted toward Vet Rewards and therfore set my account one month behind in that regard.
So, Damian7 may very well have three months that count toward his Vet Rewards, for which HE never paid. Or maybe he is just full of his usual stories, I don't know. I don't really care. He can fill his posts with all the presumptions, contrived "facts" and lordly psycho-babble that he wants. (If it meant a thing, the editors of this site would have gone knocking on his door instead of mine.) But neither of you will be permitted to trash my name as a writer and you better darn well watch your step. -

MMORPG's COH "correspondant" has been very, very slow and very, very confused about things recently... Their last "informative guide" was about something that hasn't been the same since 2 issues ago, so ... a bit slow on the uptake, and/or maliciously trying to confuse things. They're not informed very well, for whatever reason. I was going to try correcting them, but I couldn't get on my mmorpg account for some reason...

you could always make a new mmorpg account. but um, that correspondent, definitely has it's own ideas... loves to throw around the word "healer" when speaking of COx. -

No... He meant that if you used it to create a new account, you would have 12 slots per server.
There are still people who created their account with a basic CoH package after the combo amnesty date.
THEY have 10 slots per server, I believe.
Ex meant that adding this package to your lower slot account will not take you up to 12 slots per server.

honestly, i'm asking because the mmorpg.com COH correspondent is making a ruckus about the mac pac and is claiming that you get 12 extra character slots and everyone else is wrong. kinda... weird.

You weren't even anywhere NEAR the first one to mention it in THIS thread.
So, . . . Why the fuss? This is just another handy tool. To make it so it is ready every mission or two, would really be game breaking.
We have been assured that Purchasable items will NOT be game breaking items. They are supposed to just be nice shinies that are fluffy icing for the cake.

But REALLY! Why do you really need more anyway?
Out of 5-10 missions, most of them are a pretty short jaunt. Not enough to even wait for the extra animation time in many cases. You don't need to tp to 90% of your missions. It would be silly. It is a situational tool, for when you need it.
Will you REALLY receive your next mission, and say,
"Wow! 496 yards.... I sure wish the mish tp was recharged!" ?!?
I have used it a few times just for the heck of it.
But the times it has come in handiest for me, has been when I had just leveled in the mish. Often, I will skip going to level, because of how annoying it is to leave the team standing at the mish tapping their toes.
But with the mish tp, I just head right to the trainer, level, and then mish tp to the mish. I didn't leave them standing. I beat a couple of the others who had run for a drink or something.
Silly to use for quick jaunts... What does it accomplish to beat everyone else to the door?
But when I need to do something quick in RL, or level, or the mish is several zones away... Then it is handy.
And two hour recharge seems to work just fine for that!
(YMMV. If you want it, buy it. If you don't, then don't. relax.)

@ Blackavaar The 12 character slots dont seem to be added to an existing account : I just bought this and they werent added. I am assuming that that means that if this is used to make a new account, that new account will have 12 character slots. It would be nice for the page to be updated to say that (or someone to tell me that its a bug, and give me my 12 new slots). (actually, i would prefer the extra slots)

just so i understand... if you start a new account with the mac pac... DO you get 12 EXTRA character slots (roughly a $50 value), or is it simply informing you that you get 12 character slots per server?
i ask because of people posting on other forums and talking about you get 12 extra slots if you create a brand new account. -

probably, probably, and possibly not.
a lot of games that have been around for a while, who haven't engaged in say... graphics updates (especially the ones that have higher min video requirements)... well, they might have more content than newly released games; but that's not going to keep customers happy.
now, if you were the team at COx... and you saw TWO new super hero MMOs on the horizon... wouldn't you be trying to outdo them?
will those two games have secret identities? arch-enemies? vehicles? will they have "skills" (i.e. detective, scientist, etc), that let you do groovy things?
while 5,000 board posters may love this game even if there's never any new changes/content -- i think the company behind the game would like a few more customers than that. -

Okay, just had a little example which proves my point about not upping the difficulty level of the missions.
I was in a mission against the Council. I ran into a trio of +1 minions. Their assault rifles tore me up and I found myself in the hospital. This was on Heroic.
Yes, I do suck. And let me tell you why.
First, I'm physically disabled. One of my disabilities is a problem concentrating. I can only really do one thing at a time, and I cannot multitask. This is another reason as to why I solo, as I find myself a liability in a team, more often than not.
Also, I am very slow, in terms of manual dexterity. I tend to react slowly to danger. I didn't realize I was getting myself torn to shreds, because I was concentrating on setting up my attack chains to put the minions down. My inspiration box is full of heals, two wakies and four breaks.
My character also KEEPS MISSING!!! Even with my powers slotted with two DO's for accuracy, they KEEP MISSING!!! I swear I have a roughly 50% accuracy rate!! I mean, at this point, WTF?!?
This is getting FRIGGIN' RIDICULOUS!!!
I'm almost to the point of scrapping this toon and starting over! Dark Melee is just too inaccurate for me. It's frustrating me to the point that I want to find the guys who programmed this concept into the game and have a very pointed discussion (involving a large ballbat) with them about new players, frustration levels and accuracy.

play something that has a lot of innate defenses... look for always active, followed by toggles... avoid click-to-activate defenses?
control + power put said power on auto, eliminating the necessity to click it and firing it whenever it comes up. this works on one power at a time.
put your attacks in slots 1-4. keep a hand by the keyboard there and just randomly spam those four?
or slots 7-9, or whatever is comfortable/convenient.
forget about to/do/so enhancements...
put in low bids for IOs and/or invention salvage (and build your own) and sell everything that drops for you.
let the bids sit overnight, a day or two... once i get to toon to about lvl 4, i've been selling all TOs that have dropped and have been putting all my salvage for sale at the current market price. by lvl 7, without fail so far, i've managed to IO out my toon with lvl 10 IOs.
you don't outlevel IOs. they will never go bad on you during a mission when you level and you won't ever keep a group waiting while you go refresh IOs.
as i get new slots, i throw in new IOs. sometimes i get good set drops, sometimes i get good deals on sets. eventually i upgrade to better IOs... but i'm in no rush.
mobs that drop magic loot are the winners. early hellion missions have gotten me 200,000 influence by level 7... easily... pick magic origin and run your contact's missions.
do you have any of the gaming keyboards? do you have any binds set up to help you by minimizing the amount of keys you'll need to push in order to accomplish XYZ?
do you have any friends that play COx? are there no SGs recruiting? no SGs that have coalitioned with other SGs? there are a number of walmart-sized SGs/Coalitions that do a lot of recruiting on a number of servers (if not all of them).
mistakes are easily missed on large teams. get in a large sg/coalition and stay on big teams and as long as you can keep up... you're good... if you've got people buffing/debuffing, then you CAN concentrate on only attacking.
just some ideas. some of which really don't have much to do with COx specifically, but would rather apply to most all online games. -
i know masterminds haven't had any new powersets since um, many issues ago (i6?); but with all the new io sets, has anyone been putting together builds utilizing sets and uniques?

i have to say that issues 9-11 look to be just, incredibly well done. as in, lots of cool things to make COx live up to all that potential~!!
now, i'm curious. all the stuff we've been reading (and i could've missed it in this thread, i'm going re-read in a bit) about like recluse+manticore... the Menders of Ouroboros system -- will this be hero+villain? i.e. will heroes be able to help recluse take-over the rogue isles? will heroes instead be able to attempt to stop him? same with rescuing the city from COT's mega-demon -- will villains be able to help defeat cot, or help them succeed?
i'm guessing these will be missions and/or TF/SFs and not areas like recluse's victory? or will they?
this issue already sounds really really really great.
halloween fun coming up soon, followed (shortly?) by a new issue?
