    lol, dont know if anyone else remembers the feeling of abject terror in quake 1 DM:4 when those words "QUAD DAMAGE" echoed from your speakers and you realise you were just about to turn the corner to make the leap to the ledge yourself...... I can imagine all the street mobs feelign that way when a quad xp alt logs in....
  2. I can see how that method makes sense and how it would be a useful implementation. I just think my way would give more .. flavour (?) to it and stop the charge from operating across a chasm or, as you pointed out, having the 60ft cone fire off and the charger move nowhere.

    btw: I cant see the screenshots. <glares at the networks and security team> SOMEONE in work decided to ban all access to image storage facilities (and blogs for that matter... despite my argumetns that some MS and Linux dev blogs are actually useful and not full of self aggrandising twoddle....)
  3. on the timing , I would have thought it would be handled almost like a PBAoE.

    you click on the target area you want to charge to > shield is readied and animation fires > aura effect is generated that causes KB + damage to all within x range of the charger > I would like to see the KB distance get larger the closer you get to the target area

    also, while charging the player cannot activate any other power. once initiated the player cannot stop the charge.

    If KB / KD the charge is disrupted and the PBAoE effect is negated and the charge ends. the player can now activate other powers once recovered from the KB/KD.

    perhaps my image of charge is different from the devs though

  5. No screenshots or example from another game but I and several others havent been "moaning that we need a better search facility" we've been discussing ways how a search facility could be implemented.

    from previous discussions:

    a button (logically in the team search windows) that brings up a list of all team leaders (perhaps a team name could be created at start up ? ) advertising for team members.

    Beside the team leader should be the level range of the team (or an average level) and the mission they are currently on as well as the zone they are currently in. Also it should show how many are currently on the team.

    Expandable from the team leader name: A list of the current team members , their level and AT.


    For team leaders:
    Option to Create a team and perhaps assign a team name

    An option to advertise in the list for team members (this should be a simple toggle).


    In addition to this I would like to see an option for a player to be notified when a team advertises for members within a set of criteria selected by the player

    level and/or zone and/or min number of current members


    Additionally I would like to see a form of Event notification list implemented:

    Personally I think this should be accessed through the city information terminals (or equivalent for vilain side).

    The screen should act as a notice board where a player advertises his event.
    format:
    When (the date / time it is starting. events are removed as they pass 2 hours past their start time)
    Where: meeting point
    Who: who needs to be contacted to inquire further including a button that just sends an "interest notification" to the organiser.
    What: what the event is (task force/ missions / hunting / costume contest / PVP challenge / arena etc)
    Level range: levels from : to:


    the poster should have an option to toggle whether or not his posting has an active contact option or not, thus if full he is not contactable and so not plagued by tells etc.

    Additionally I think tells should go into a tab like the email so they dont zip past when you are in combat. instead you can wait until a quiet moment and review them at your leisure.

    Anyway, thats my opinion. I'm sure there are better ways to do this and I'm sure people will have improvements / changes to my suggestion. Dont worry, I'm not going to be offended if everyone doesnt like it

    as an aside, BF 2142 had a similar bonus points for being offline system and it worked great. My three soldiers unlocked weapons pretty much at a uniform rate even though it was my sniper I played more often than not.

    riot shield , check
    police uniform , check
    baton power ? woot! check

    now all I need are some hippies and a large supply of tear gas.....

    I have to say that I like this system. I played a single main character up to 50 and have now given in to my inner altaholic. This system means that I am now rewarded for concentrating on one alt at a time for a set period and with the double xp I'm not doomed to repeating the grind to level up the "neglected" alts. as well as the spattering of powers and benefits they will receive when I go visit them again.

    I agree that there should be an option to turn this off.

    How will the double xp work with the levelling pact ?

  9. I've been using the IO planner on rpg nexus:

    but I have recently discovered that it is wrong (bleedign stone was reported as needed for Devastation but it is not included in the devastation shopping list which makes me wonder just how accurate the whole planner is.

    anyway, I was wondering if anyone else has a suggestion for a salvage management / invention set planner website or software ? I currently use an excel spreadsheet to keep track of salvage levels and have to manually check each one to see if its usable or if it can just be sold straight off.

    this takes a good bit of time and a lot of clicking.

    personally I'd like to see an option in the AH to "only show recipies you ahve salvage available to make"

I'm not sure if this would open the door too wide for bots to single out player names for sending spam but I hate the fact that you start the character creator, you choose your AT, then choose your powerset, then design a costume that suits teh background you have in mind or just looks cool and then you end up giving the hero a name like L33tGuy11101 because the name you had in mind has already been taken.

    I'd like the naming stage of the hero to come first or at the time the powersets are chosen.

    *last night I made a dual blade scrapper on Union with a uniform like the three musketeers. I wanted to call him The Duellist but when I was ready to go to the tutorial the name was already taken I ended up calling him Hawkwood - an English mercenary who controlled most of nothern Italy at different stages - really , look him up, its really interesting stuff - Point it, at that stage I didnt want to go back a re-design the costume to better suit Hawkwood (I'll do it later at the tailor ). If I had known that The Duellist was taken, I'd have possibly gone for one of the other alt ideas I have in the works.

  13. I'm contemplating moving a few characters from Defiant to Union. However, i'm not sure whether or not to do a mass migration or just a scouting party.

    Does anyone have any numbers on the player populations of the two servers ? preferrably at various times during the day , or can anyone tell me how I go about getting these numbers - or is it a case of log on and see.

  15. defintely having a LFG channel more easily acessible would be nice. (i'm still getitng used to the global channel tbh!)

    However, the LFG channel would be much better if , when you logged in you also had access to the past 10 minutes of text in the channel.

    or....

    the city terminals (or whatever similar in CoV) had a facility to show groups advertising for members, TFs being organised, players looking for groups etc. like an online noticeboard. Not that I have suggested this before.....
  16. well, with the idea of a moral compass that lets you go from good to bad and vice versa I think all characters should start off Neutral with an origin and a set of common pool low level powers. as they level they get to evolve into heroes or villains and choose their AT upon full fledged good/badness.

    Stop a bank robbery => hero
    Rob a bank => villain
    Get caught robbing a bank => jail + outbreak = villain
    Fail to stop bank job => hospital + recovery tutorial = hero

    etc.

    or:

    each act you do moves your nice/naughty metre closer to either end of the spectrum. dead centre = 0 xp , as you move closer to the edges you get closer to full xp. only Grey characters can select from the grey pool of powers - none of which are tied to any particular AT - common to all. once you hit the hero/villain stage you get the option to choose your AT and move to paragon or Rogue Isles and start earning proper powers starting from those available at your current level.

    IMHO, make the Destined an option. I know its nice but I've spent soooo long beating up Arachnos with my MM I really dont want to work for Recluse nor do I care what he's up to as long as I can throw myself at him and make him feel all sad n stuff for beating the snot out of me if we ever cross paths! thats right. I'll hurt him. I'll hurt his feelings gooooood!

    cap missions and contacts in the grey area to lvl 10. leave the current sub 10 missions that are in the game for those that dont want to start Grey (choice is always good).
  17. normally, if I'm playing during the week midnight ( 00:00 ) is my finishing time. 2am would be a rarity - well, it would be now since I have discovered responsibility and have a nagging voice in my head (otherwise known as "wife").

    but yes, finding teams can be quite difficult at almost any time. usually I try to start a team, one or two members. if I meet another team of one or two, I offer a merge. Generally this works quite well.

    One thing though, I have always found that - since my last complaining whine of a post about the lack of teams - a broadcast does not work as well as a tell to those on the player list. If they say they are on a team, ask if there is room for one more. If they dont reply, remember who it was so you dont go spamming them.

    My current tactic: log on with empath, look for team for 10 to 15 minutes. if that doesnt work, go and log in with a solo-able alt (currently a tanker or a scrapper) or log in with level 50 and look for fun
  18. Great TF I've only run through this once before but this time is was almost plain sailing ( 3 deaths for me cornered by two riders and their pals , hami picking on me and not paying attention at the very end there).

    I've never seen an AV (honoree) go down so easily! great team. cant do the ITF tonight but definitely up for teaming up again for another TF sometime.

  20. well, i had almost (almost) the opposite experience of the OP.

    My first defender (Anadin) was on the US servers way back in the times of yore... I played him to level 14 then deleted him in disgust after a series of sessions involving incredible amounts of abuse from scrappers who ran off to fight whatever they wanted and expected the fender to abandon the rest of the party to heal them and only them.

    After getting my blaster to 50 on defiant I decided to give defenders another go. initally there wasnt much luck in getting into a group (in one case I was told no because of my character's name ( AlwaysUltra ... well, she does have wings!) ). But recentyl I'm getting into groups and , while not being wrapped in cotton wool, the fender is protected and appreciated. No-one has died under my watch so far (fingers crossed) but there have been some close calls , but, and this is where I saw the difference, no tirades of grief. Instead I got thanks for the healing, congratualtions on a good job when a good job was done and a general level of appreciation without being expected to just be a healing machine - she also has archery so its not as if she's going to go on a rampage but its nice to do *some* damage.

    So, IMHO, no empathy fenders arent useless. if anyhting they are no longer expected to just follow the scrapper spamming heals and are , from my experience, more appreciated and treated as an equal in a group (PuG or otherwise).

    Must be said, after my initial experience on the US servers, I have always done my best to be polite to teh healers and thank them for a good job and make a point of saying thanks when they save my skin.
  21. strangely enough, that doesnt even sound like fun... I know people want to level quickly but at that pace you'll be ghosting most missions, sprinting from place to place or, worse, running frostfire ten times in a row.....
