*sigh*
Let's see if I can lay this thing to rest.
At I5 - and now again with ED - some claim that the game is "dying" and that thousands of players are leaving. This isn't true. We're actually gaining customers. Not hundreds of thousands, but we're gaining nevertheless.
Then all of a sudden I read Armsman's post where he talks about our original launch subscription numbers - which isn't really the point. My entire response on this thread has been focused to I5 and ED reaction - so the more pertinent number to look at would be what our numbers were just previous to I5...not our numbers just after launch. Never did I make a claim that we have more subscribers now than we did last year. My point continues to be: ED and I5 haven't created a ghost town out of City of Heroes.
Unfortunately, I pointed to SirBruce's outdated chart instead of NCSoft's numbers. Frankly, SirBruce's is the one I go to - it lists the competition, so to speak. Or at least to a degree. As SirBruce will tell you, it's really difficult to get numbers out of publishers. NCSoft posts ours.
Why is WoW or Lineage doing so much better? Heck - they're great games. But they're also successful in the Asian market. Will we ever catch up to them. Dunno. The WoW guys have a bit of a track record on us...years of producing amazing games. Who ever heard of Cryptic before City of Heroes? There are LEGIONS of Blizzard fans - of course they'd play WoW! And it's a phenomenal game!

I think that (I'm trying not to speak for everyone, just me), that because some people really don't like the ED changes that people are using the numbers as a way to add to their arguement against it.
I don't like ED because I like to be able to slot my powers the way I wanted and I don't like the fact that now I can't. If I add another enhancement of ANY sort I want it to add at the same percentage that all of the others of its type do. Not to be lower because I already have some of the same in slots.
I can understand that it is YOUR game but to many of us it is also OUR game. Sure, I can still play and don't find it horribel to play but I still hate ED.
I realise that you want people to say in an eloquent way what exactly they don't like but you then attempt to tear their arguements to peices.
I'm pretty sure that your numbers of subscribers may not be affected to much (or at all) by ED but there are still many of us who hate it, just that some, like me, will stay anyway because where else can I play a Super hero (or Villian) liket he ones I read in comics?
But please, please consider reversing ED, It was just so much simpler back when I could add an enhancement and not have to think about it too much.
Now you've added ragdoll physics I maight very well add some knockbacks into powers because being a sadist I like to see my enemies thrown thru the air.
I can't explain in detail my experiences of ED because I'm not as clever as many on these boards are, I mean those people who can work out the maths behind all the changes but I'm pretty sure that my opinion is as valid.
Also I'm aware that many people who play don't even visit the forums and there are many who visit but never post. Again I am not goign to speak for those who's opinions I haven't heard but everyone in game I have spoken too WITHOUT exeption, do NOT like ED.
A common thing that people say is that they are fed up/ sick of respeccing their characters. I realise that English Rose now has many enhancements that are probably doing little or no good in the slots they are in now but to be honest I can't be bothered to change them and work out what to slot her with now.
No, I'm not leaving but I know a few people who have. I'm also not goignt o say that you'll lose customers on a massive scale, as I said, many people don't read these boards, so I'm sure many don't realise the ramificatiosn of ED. I'm pretty sure that people are still slotting as they used to and not paying attention to the numbers because they, like me, expect that if they add something then it should ADD.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I'm aware that it will still add but on a much lower scale which wastes the time and effort put into getting the enhancement in the first place.
As you are being very defensive about the changes I am sure that you are not open to the suggestion of changing it back but I really widh you would.
Sorry if I went on and on but ED has really annoyed me, not enough for me to leave but it's till annoyed me.
Please remember that although it is YOUR game but as I'm sure you've said before, that we all have our own ideas of fun, well try ot consider others veiws of fun before you make changes that seem to suit yours.
You appear to be adamant (stubborn, not the singer) that we will need to team for certain missions but at release I'm sure that I was able to solo if I wanted.
I was ok witht he changes to my defender which made her more of a challenge to play, as she didn't have the ability to chain hold mobs with fear anymore. But my mind controller still can hold a lot of mobs but if you took that away then she would be unsoloable.
Just to reiterate, please consider that although it is your game, that others have a different list of wants.
CoV has launched with many bugs and maybe if attention wasn't on ED, there may have been more attention on them. I had several bugged missions in a row today.
(Sorry about grammar and spelling, I'm tired and can't be bothered to correct it)

Welcome Arctic Sun, hope you enjoy yourself in your new role.
-
Good luck and I hope you enjoy whatever you are moving onto. Thank you for the imput you have given to, in my opinion, the best ever online game. It's truly a first and you were part of it
And one day I hope we can fight the baddies together
Take care and good luck. -
Thank you too, I wish I was half as talented.
And I agree, thank you for a great game. Never played any game for a year before, best was about 2 months. -
How geeky is it if I try it once and get 19/21 but get upset that it isnt perfect score, come here and work out why I didn't get Captain Courage? Then I go back and take the test again.
I am happy now cos I got 21/21. -
Damn, not the sort of playing I thought you meant

I'd like to congradulate you on having your art in the newest comic and having a slight comeo in the story

Thank you
It was Brandon McKinney who drew the art I have on the Fan Art page too. He does commissions and I got him to do that mock up of a front cover for me.
He has done a few others too, some of the other people who he has done art for have posted it on the forums too. -
During a secret mission on the Moon, Statesman and Sister Psyche discovered an infant child. Able to breath without the device that Sister Psyche needed to survive, the duo realised that the child was much more then a normal entity.
After returning to Earth, Statesman used every resource available to him, but he could not discover the little girl's origins.
Statesman assisted a childless couple, who were trusted friends of his, in adopting the young child. Matthew and Maude Munroe named their daughter Moon, in honour of her mysterious finding place.
The Munroes brought Moon up as a sensible and well behaved child, they soon taught her that the bullying she got at school because of her blue skin colour was due to humans fearing people who were different to themselves.
Moon was soon accepted by her peers at school, and after time, they didn't see her as not belonging and her differences just added to thier own experiences of the Universe.
When after the Kheldians were discovered on Earth, Moon Munroe was approached by senior Peacebringer officials. They informed her that she was in fact half Kheldian, they did not recognise the origin of her other half though. Moon's heritage has remained a mystery upto the present day.
Her fellow Peacbringers invited Moon to join them and fight alongside them, Moon declined. She felt more human and wanted to fight within a team of heroes who had a more terrestrial origin.
Statesman negotiated with English Rose and her team, who were very willing in assisting Moon Munroe in discovering her potential. English Rose herself, christened Moon with her alter ego's name, "Moon Flower".
Moon Flower is a very loving and peaceful person and is well loved by everyone who meets her. Her new friends are also hoping to find out why Moon was left alone where she was found. They are also secretly trying to find out what her true baclground is, so as to give her the chance of discovering her people. -
Being a rebelious child can get you into trouble, that's what Jasmine Patel discovered anyway. Jasmine was quite spoilt in comparison to many of the other children born in Mumbai, this further added to her selfishness.
When asked to do anything by her family, Jasmine would always do the opposite, she was not a bad person, it was just that she always felt so bored with everything.
After a childhood of following the wrong trends and making the wrong friends, Jasmine really fell into the wrong crowd.
Interested in the occult from an early age, when some of her new friends suggested that she join in on one of their rituals to speak to the spirits, she agreed without hesitation.
Unknown to her, she was meant to do more then speak to the spirit she was due to meet, her new "friends" were in fact members of the Circle of Thorns and she was intended to be the sacrificial victim at their next cosy dinner party.
Jasmine had been picked because her life essence was stronger then most and the Circle felt that with her soul, they'd be able to call one of the big guns from the demon world.
After a brief charade, Jasmine soon realised what was intended for her but it was far to late to escape. When Bhal Al Er Mhine appeared, he was very happy with his minions choice of victim. His happiness didn't last long.
Whilst trying to consume Jasmine's essence, he misjudged just how powerful her will to live was, he had also never expected her life force to be as strong as it was. Bhal was unable to cope with the sheer power of her soul and he exploded in a ball of magically charged black energy.
The failed ritual and resulting explosion left Jasmine with all of Bhal Al Er Mhine's powers but magnified tenfold by her life energy.
Jasmine discovered that she could call upon these dark energies to give her strength and endurance, she made quick work of defeating the few of her new "friends", who hadn't run away already.
After a lengthy and apologetic explanation to her family, Jasmine told them that she wanted to go to America and to train with the fantastic superheroes that practised there. Her parents agreed with her and were proud to see that their daughter had decided to follow the right path for once.
Jasmine decided to name herself based on her favourite heroine "English Rose" and following her as an example, she named herself "Indian Jasmine".
African Violet was impressed with what she saw when she was in a team with Indian Jasmine, against some Hellion scum. Without Jasmine's help, there would have been no way that herself and Japanese Lily could of defused the three bombs simultaneously.
Indian Jasmine has proved her worth on many occasions since being invited into the greatest international flower themed super team in the World. -

I'm planning on adding the others when I get the chance. After spending so long trying to think of names, with so many taken now, the story kind of fell into place after I found the name. -
Lily Liu benefited from everything the child of millionaire parents could, that is everyhting except love.
A lonely childhood, sheltered from most other people in fear that she may be kidnapped, Lily grew to focus inwards. Her parents were more concerned that Lily was a "model" child and looked the part of a rich couple's offspring.
Lily soon discovered that by concentrating long and hard enough she could somehow "persude" her bodyguards to let her out alone and unescorted. At first she believed that she was just a good liar but after one fateful day 4 years ago, she learnt the true scope of her powers.
Whilst attending a movie premiere with her parents there was an armed attack on the cinema. Being held hostage and soon realising that her parents were the target of the terrorists, Lily began to panic.
For reasons unknown to the criminals, they suddenly began to turn against eachother, several of the dozen or so villians even fell asleep in the midst of the ensuing battle.
All of the hostages were able to escape unharmed, the experience, strange but not life changing. That is for all but Lily.
Lily's parents had long been aware that their daughter was somehow "not normal" and they soon realised that what saved them was her mind controlling powers.
Despite the fact that she had saved hundreds of lives, including those of her parents, her family decided that they would not be able to live with the shame, should Lily's secret be made known.
The teenager was dispatched to a school in America's Paragon City, her parents hoping that the over abundence of "weird" activities there would easily allow their daughter's odd behaviours to go largely unnoticed.
Finding herself alone and in a foreign country, she soon fell victim to a criminal gang who admired Lily's expensive clothes and jewellary.
Two heroes who live in Paragon City were near enough to hear the commotion and rushed to aid the poor girl. They soon discovered that it was the muggers who needed the assistance, as the "poor girl" had managed to see off four gang members and their boss, singlehanded.
Lily Liu introduced herself to the two heroes and was soon enjoying their friendship. Those heroes were English Rose and African Violet.
Japanese Lily was an obvious alias for Lily Liu when invited into the ranks of one of the World's finest hero teams.
Lily has become quite famous during her many battles against the bad guys in Paragon City, although no one knows her secret identity, there is a certain wealthy japanese couple, who still cringe when they see her on TV. -
Violet Doku was born and raised in a small african village. Her community struggled hard to keep seperate from the modern, outside World. They lived a peaceful life and practiced ancient and magical rituals.
There were many rituals which were used to benefit the village, and nearly everyone born within the local area had some magical ability.
It was of no surprise that Violet would be a powerful magic user, as her father was the local Witch Doctor and her mother was the village Wise Woman. Before she was even into her twenties, Violet had already learnt everything her parents had to teach. Her father knew a powerful Shaman in a local town and Violet was sent to learn what she could from him.
During her stay with her tutor, Violet discovered that there had been a catastrophy in her home village. Mercenaries had killed everyone, including her parents.
Violet researched relentlessly to discover the reason for the monstrous act but kept coming up against a wall of silence.
During a herb gathering mission, Violet met the botanist, Rose Reynolds and soon they became firm friends.
One night when a local school was victim of an arsonist, Violet witnessed her friend changing into the superhero "English Rose".
Violet informed Rose of her discovery and shared her magical secret with her. English Rose used her contacts to assist Violet in her research and they discovered that Crey Industries had supplied the weapons to the mercenaries who had killed her parents.
English Rose invited Violet to return to America with her, so that together, they could trace the killers of Violet's village.
Calling herself "African Violet" and basing her costume on her friends attire, Violet Doku, fights crime and searches for clues as to why she is now an orphan. -
I wanted to write a little about English Rose and where she came from, who she is and also tell a little of her story. I haven't updated her bio for a while but will do so after I post it here for posterity.
Rose Reynolds was born in London and spent a lot of time with her grandmother whilst growing up. One time, when staying with her grandmother as a teenager, she was shocked to see her attacked by members of the fifth column.
Rose was knocked unconcious during the attack and when she regained conciousness, she found that her grandmother was missing. During her recuperation in hospital, doctors discovered that she had latent energy based powers. Through the use of modern, Crey industries, medical technology, they were able to ascertain her true potential.
Rose Reynolds was shocked to discover this news but the doctors informed her that without these latent abilities, she would almost certainly have died during the attack.
Over the next few weeks, Rose trained her skills and used her savings to have a costume created for her. Taking the main colours of her and her grandmother's favourite flower, the rose, she designed her classic outfit. English Rose was born.
Following a few escapades against villians in the UK's capital city, Rose received a phone call from the famous hero, Statesman. He informed her that her grandmother had probably been smuggled into Paragon City and he invited Rose to the US to investigate.
After several, lengthy and experience building battles, English Rose managed to track down her grandmother and rescue her from the clutches of the Fifth Column. After her rescue, her grandmother explained why she had been taken prisoner. She had, during WWII, been the forces heroic sweetheart. She had also been known as, English Rose and had similar powers to Rose.
During Rose's career as a superhero, she has discovered that there has been many other English Roses and that all of them had, in fact been her ancestors. It transpired that the mutant genes responsible for her powers had been passed down through the female DNA of her family.
Two other English Roses have appeared recently, one has somehow been transported from the year 1413 and another from 2527. The "future" version is a direct descendant of our current favourite Brit. The medieval Rose is the first known, recorded English Rose and is trying to discover why she has arrived in the year 2005.
When travelling through a paralell dimension, Rose met her alternate version. On this plane of existance Rose Reynolds was not born a mutant nor were her forebears. During the Rikti War on her homeworld, Rose Reynolds family all perished. She volunteered to merge with a Nictus, so as to avenge her familys deaths.
After discovering that in our reality, that the Reynolds family still lives, she was anxious to return with English Rose to make her home here with us.
Under the alias "Kheldian Rose", she has joined forces with English Rose and her team mates. Any one of them makes a mighty opponent for any wrongdoer. -
As I haven't made it to Hami yet, how do you get the special enhancements? I mean whats the fair way of getting them, not the griefing.
I don't know how the mission / trial works? I have read something about "buds", do you get a enhs for each one you defeat? or is it only if you defeat Hami?
Also is it like when you complete an arc, you get to pick which enhs you want?
Sorry for all the questions but my main character is one bub away from 45 and I'm interested in getting a special enhancement.
I'll probably never use the arena against anyone not in my SG, so I ain't planning on using them to be more powerful against other players, just more powerful against the bad guys -

Maybe you should make an exception for people from Quebec to test the French version?
[/ QUOTE ]
Well as it is planned, if you want to play in French, then you will have to import the french version of CoH as the servers are going to seperated from North American servers. -
I wish more people would ask cryptic to make the servers Global. I enjoy playing on the US servers and will continue to do so as I will not be transfering. BUT all new European players will be seperate from us.
This means meeting no new European players, some, if not the majority of, European players leaving and going to the new servers.
Why can't we have servers which are global like MANY other games do? I can understand having various language servers but even those could be linked to the current US servers.
And as another question which I have asked before, If I stay on US servers with a UK address why can't I be classed as a UK customer for issues such as competitions and comics?
I know that you guys are much better at answering questions and keeping your players informed then other games but we are customers who pay for this service, just because you are better at it does not mean you are perfect, just better.
And to all you current players out there, please support those of us in the minority over this, if more of you do then maybe they will listen. Isn't that what those of us who are boycotting Marvel are hoping for? That the little guys are not little guys when they gang together.
And to the last poster, not all Business decisions are good ones, I reckon that Marvel thought it a pretty good business decision to sue everything that moved (and wore a cape) -

[ QUOTE ]
Is there any chance that they will be all linked together, with access to all servers by all players, no matter where from? Or will the business people not listen to the majority of the people who have posted here and go ahead as planned?
[/ QUOTE ]
What, do you mean the five people who've posted again and again how much they don't like the plans?
Yeah, you've got the makings of a popular revolution there, buddy. I think I'll start stockpiling food in the basement.
Let's face it: there are certain things NCsoft will tell you... and there are certain things they won't. Ever. No matter how much you ask. So here's my advice: wise up and stop bloody asking.
Here's an alternative plan for you: sit back and just wait. Enjoy the game. And calm the **** down. Things will happen, and we'll all wait and see what happens when they do.
BTW, those of you talking about subscription prices... Lineage II got launched in Europe recently. Have you thought of checking out the prices for that?
Or would you prefer to just keep asking over and over and over and over and over, so someone who's taken time out of their day to respond to your questions can do that again - when perhaps, just perhaps, they should be busy doing other things, like, say, launching a website?
Reading this thread is just getting tedious and annoying for me. You're asking the same things and never getting answers. Why not ask something, y'know, interesting for once?
[/ QUOTE ]
I asked Bridger, not you. And the question if you read it was, if it was a FINAL decision.
Writerguy try being a READERguy for a bit.
It might not bother you but it bothers the FIVE of us (lol) that have posted. It also annoys US players I have spoken too.
If it don't bother you, then frankly, that's fine with me but as long as it bothers me I will keep asking, either untill I get an answer or untill the game comes out.
Also if the final decision is one I am unhappy about then I will leave plus so will my already online mates plus my friends who were going to buy the UK version, won't buy it. They will buy another game instead.
I am a customer, I have the RIGHT to get customer service for the amount of money I have paid and continue to pay in subscriptions. If you are OK about putting up with not getting answers to questions you ask of people you PAY, then again that's fine by me.
Just because, in most respects, CoH have spent time listening to us should I not ask for something I want?
The way I see it is, if they have listened in the past, then they may listen about this, if I (and others) don't let them know what I (us) think then they may go ahead and do something I (we) don't like. At least if people say how they feel, then CoH won't be ignorant of what us 5 players want.
A lot of people don't even come near the website, maybe they should ask the people in game more of what they think? Especially on the big decisions. I never recieve emails from CoH, unless it's about ingame petitions. -
Bridger, I know you guys are still finalising things and don't have many answers for us yet but is it set in stone that the servers will be seperate?
Is there any chance that they will be all linked together, with access to all servers by all players, no matter where from? Or will the business people not listen to the majority of the people who have posted here and go ahead as planned? -

Hear hear.
Incidentally, I will be in the UK for Christmas this year, and I was wondering...how is the gameplay over there on the US servers as compared to here in the US? Is there more lag, slower framerates, dropped connections, etc... I have the game on my laptop and I'll be playing via a DSL connection, so I was just curious.

I can't say anything about frame rates as I've never checked. I play via a 2Meg broadband and get no lag, not even on test during the PCC Halloween event in Atlas Park. -

I also want to be able to play at times when other people are around without having to do a task force in the middle of the night.
I was invited to beta, as were many Non-North Americans, so when the game went live of course a lot of us decided to purchase the game there and then.
How many people with a character they have put a lot of time and effort into developing would be HAPPY?
Any other questions?
[/ QUOTE ]
Well, if you have had no problems playing on the US servers NOW, I don't see why everything is going to change just because they open the European servers.
And as a paying customer, btw, I demand that the game be translated into Klingon. And I want Klingon Empire servers, too! Because I'm a paying customer, and we Trekkies deserve it just as much as you fancy pants Europeans!
[/ QUOTE ]
What I meant is that I can ACCEPT not being able to enter competitions now, while the game is still only OFFICIALLY released in North America but I want to be allowed to enter the UK competitions even if I still play ont the US servers when the UK goes live, as I will be a UK customer, only I'll continue to play on the US side.
I can live with the downtime as it is now, after weighing the pros and cons I would prefer to stay on the US servers rather then 1, having to pay again for another version of the game, 2, Starting from scratch (Which having a level 40 main, I REALLY don't want), 3, I would lose a lot of team mates.
If I have to move the UK servers to get the UK benefits then so be it, but I do NOT want to pay again for the privilege, I also want my characters transfered after putting so much time, effort and MONEY into playing them. Also I want my prestige powers from both the pre order and the DVD to be carried over.
So all in all, it is best for me to either stay on the US servers or better still, for CoH to be global as so many other games are. That way I can benefit from both worlds. -
[ QUOTE ]
I don't get why people are upset over this... The people who choose to play on the European servers have that choice, Europeans that have the US version can stay on the current servers. People who have limited understanding of English can get a game in their language, as well as support, etc in their own native language.
CoH is expanding worldwide which makes the game more successful, which in turn brings in more money for the company. We already get tons of extra stuff right now from this game (Issues, etc), so the more successful this game is, the more stuff we will get, right?
Seems like a pretty positive thing in my eyes. I also think it's pretty friggen kewl that Bridger is taking the time to answer all these questions.
[/ QUOTE ]
Well I'm not happy because I have been paying my subscriptions since launch and have wanted a comic. I was OK with not getting it while it was a game that was only officially released in North America.
Now the game is being officially released here I want to be treated the same as customers in the US. I want competition eligibility, comics and down time for maintenance at a time that is not in the middle of the day for people in Europe.
I also want to be able to play at times when other people are around without having to do a task force in the middle of the night.

Any other questions? -
Is ANYONE happy about these proposed changes who is English speaking?
I can understand the reasons for this for people who need support, forums and in game material in their own languages, but to cause all this trouble for the existing customers seems to be a really bad idea.
I have done my bit to support CoH against the lawsuit by boycotting them for being bad towards CoH customers. I know that customers demanding a way they want to be treated gets results, so if you are unhappy about these changes then tell Cryptic.
I for one am deeply annoyed about this! Plus the lack of answers, I can understand there not being all the answers we want yet as the decisions may not have been made or still may be in discussion but I don't appreciate being ignored when i ask a question.
I pay for this by the way!
