    CoP please.

Once the internal focus group of Bigfoot and the Loch Ness Monster finish with it, I'm sure we'll see it.

    [ QUOTE ]

Please lay out for us what redside content has been bestowed upon us since i7. This does not, need I remind you, include zones that have us rescuing our most hated enemies [lol.... priceless], nor does it include Heaven oopsImean, Oroborous. Villains are ALLOWED INTO those zones; they are by no stretch of the imagination FOR us.

    [/ QUOTE ]

You can't ask people to detail content for villains and in the same paragraph create an ad hoc exception for any content you don't feel meets you sensibilities. That's not an argument made in good faith.

Isn't it better just to admit that CoV got content, but it's content that you don't personally like? At least that's honest.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Do you really expect that sort of honesty from a group of people who think it would be better if the developers never learned from their mistakes, never incorporated the lessons learned from previous decisions, and don't seem to grasp that the game has not had the subscriber levels or development staff necessary for all the things they wish for to have been possible? I mean, people go on about Hazard Zones, but I just logged off Virtue, and in DA, a zone full of easy to kill magic salvage dropping mobs, there were a whole two or three other people besides me unhidden. If hero side hazard zones are ghosttowns (in every sense of the word in this case), what do they think they would add to CoV? Big boxes of mobs that no one uses aren't exactly going to revolutionize that part of the game. Its like complaining that your older brother has a sixth toe on his left foot and you want one too.

Alot of this comes down to people being too vague in their complaints. If people are mad about the lack of CoV *exclusive* content added since I7, perhaps they have a point. Handwaving away *all* content added to CoV is absurd, and only serves to weaken the argument of anyone expressing that opinion by making them look irrational.

Just wondering. Seems alot of attention villains need, just is a no go. COH gets alot more attention. This goes for pve and pvp. Will 2008 actually bring some attention?

  4. Ex, your Childsplay Logo link is pointing to the image's location on photobucket. It should probably be pointing to:
    http://www.childsplaycharity.org/

Also, glad to see some official support for Childsplay. This is something that gamers should really support. When people bring up all sorts of negative things about our hobby, its nice to be able to say "Our community raises millions of dollars for sick kids to have opportunities to have fun"

If people want to donate to a specific hospital near them or can't afford the price of the auction items, you can click on those little controller icons on the main page to get their wishlists. No doubt those items are going to run into the hundreds of dollars, which may be out of some peoples price range. But $30 bucks for a DS game or something, just about everyone can swing that.

    Moving Day!

You scared me, I thought you were going to move to boards to better software...

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Same.

    "Moving?! AAAAHHH! DOOOOOM!"

    [/ QUOTE ]

Moving to new forum software would be awesome.

It would be cool to see a tour of the new office once the team are settled into the new offices, like Cryptic did when they moved to their new building.
  6. Sounds like he's on a laptop. He'll need to run the modtool on the driver to install it, as listed in this thread.

well since the switch over to the nc norcal studios and the now complete transfer to nc is in the works...moving studios and such...hopefully they will have more time and people to decicate to see how this feature can be implemented. I am excited also about issue 11 and came back with another free trial to see if i like it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

It certainly makes PC somewhat more possible, though the results of the staff expansion are probably quite far off, since they're still hiring lots of people according the Now Hiring page. Alot of those positions are art related though.

I'm confused. Other than the "invite someone to reactivate" how is this different than the existing "refer a friend" program?

    [/ QUOTE ]

That hasn't changed, just has been updated.

Ah, so its really one new referral program and a reminder about an old one.

As far as I can tell, it's only the xp-32bit driver. I don't know why they don't make them all wide open and public.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yeah, comparing the file names of the 7.11s I downloaded yesteraday, and doing some further reading seems to indicate that the vista mobility drivers are not released to the public, and you have to go through your OEM or use the mod tool. I've also found a method on Notebook Review that seems to indicate a way to use the regular drivers without resorting to the mod tool. I'll post the instructions if it works for me.

EDIT: The method I found on the NBR forums didn't seem to work for me, so I used Mobility Modder and sucessfully installed the 7.11's. No issues so far, aside from some weird graphic artifacts on the loading screen when the game launched. They went away after a few seconds though.

I found a way to skip the verification download for Mobile Radeon Catalyst Drivers for those of us that use laptops.

The following link downloads the driver directly, I had a huge problem updating my driver I made the mistake of getting an Acer laptop, they do not update their drivers.

    http://ati.amd.com/online/mobilecatalyst/

    [/ QUOTE ]

Question about this link. Will this driver work for Vista? I've downloaded it, but I see that the current file name is:

    7-11-mobile_xp32_dd_ccc_enu_54438.exe

Does the XP part mean this is an XP *only* driver?
  12. [ QUOTE ]
This has got to be the single-best trailer this game has ever seen officially made.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Seriously. That was awesome all around. I thought about cancelling the download after a while since it was taking ages (I was grabbing the highest rez windows version) but I'm glad I stuck it out. Looked great.
  13. [ QUOTE ]

Enhancement Screens and X1*** series cards
If you have an X1*** series card, (may be present with the 2*** series cards as well, but this has not been verified by this author) either on the normal enhancement screen, or when putting enhancements into slots during a respec, the cursor becomes erratic when placed on the enhancement icons. In order to grab enhancements, you must have the cursor above and left of where it should be.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Just a note, this issue is cropping up with my new laptop with a Mobility Radeon HD 2600.

I mostly just skimmed my way down to here, so maybe I just missed the answer to this question, but what exactly is the point of this?

Is it just so that people can find new people and contact one another, or does this feature offer a more useful service that I haven't figured out yet?

    [/ QUOTE ]

More details and the full feature announcement will be coming in the near future.

The purpose of this announcement is to let people know that we will be doing something and, if they don't envision they want to be involved, can configure their in-game options as needed to limit their character's information availability.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Is this the "sekrit" that Ex Libris refered to earlier?
  15. [ QUOTE ]
I'm gonna go against the grain here and say I'd prefer this information to be made available by default. If the default is set to "hide," those who have themselves unhidden will be the exception, rather than the rule, as anyone who doesn't know about or just doesn't care enough to take the time to enable it (but wouldn't especially mind other people seeing their info out of game) would be excluded. In other words, the new feature would likely become very little-used.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Which is exactly why its very unlikely they're going to have this set to "Hide" by default.

However, I will say this. If they're going to create a web interface where we can see each others characters (something which I seem to recall being discussed back when City of Heroes launched), they ought to be able to put into that interface an option for "Hide all characters from web page" so that people don't have to log in every single character they want to hide and fool with the option.

So whats this thing going to be called I wonder. I think Cerebro is taken.
  16. Awesome! These options have been appearing and disappearing in the options menu for years, its nice to see they're going to be used.

then give those throwaways the boot. Everyone then deletes their throwaways, and all is well in RP-land. ^_^

How do you RP offering a bunch of new heroes a place to learn, and then summarily killing them all off? The funeral expenses for all those lowbie heroes is mind boggling.

Hopefully the mod tools for this forum software allow Ex or the others to find out, and then ban whoever it is.
  19. [ QUOTE ]
Sometimes, watching TNA these days, with all the retreads, makes me think I'm watching WCW from about 12 yrs ago. Hall and Nash....the Steiners....a Macho Man wannabe....Jeff Jarrett....Raven.... Sting

The small-time-production reminds me of when WCW was struggling in its infancy too. You kind of felt dirty watching wrestling that wasn't WWF. (Of course, I also watched NWA and UWA wrestling, and got to see the Von Erichs, the Freebirds, and other great wrestlers in matches that were just as good as anything they have now.)

A question for y'all: When you see guys like Flair, or Sting, Hacksaw Jim Duggan, et al. still wrestling way past when they were at their peak, do you still root for them, or do you secretly wish they'd go away before they embarass themselves? How many mid-to-late 40's wrestlers do we need? And does having all the oldtimers around speak to the dearth of quality talent in the younger generation of wrestlers? Do we need Sgt Slaughter putting on the old tights and getting his [censored] beat by some punk? I'd rather remember the legends the way they were than what they've sunk to.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Generally, I wish they'd go away, or move into roles as mangers, though WWE doesn't seem to actually have managers any more (Khali's translator with the bad hair cut doesn't count!), which is a shame, as a manager with decent mic skills can add a lot to a wrestler who can't cut a promo to save his life.

Sting is a bit younger than the other guys you mention isn't he? Though I've never been a huge fan of his.

I'm not sure if anyone else has noticed, or if he's hit the circuit in the States yet, but Brett Hart has been doing a lot of interviews to promote his new book up here. I've heard him on CBC radio twice, and once on the prime-time show on the local all-sports radio station. I could try to chase down podcasts if people are interested.
  20. Possibly the staffing up may make it possible. However, I wanted to post this bit from Neutra's summary of the Interview with Positron on WOOT yesterday.

    [ QUOTE ]
Weapon Customization in Issue 11 has -NOT- brought them any closer to Power Customization, contrary to what some people may think or say.

    [/ QUOTE ]

So while the increased staffing may make PC more likely, it sounds like WC has not reduced the technical hurdles in any significant fashion.

First of all (and any forum being what it is, I know this will miss some of us) try to read my entire post before assuming I am crying DOOOOOOOM or speaking negatively about this management change.

    [/ QUOTE ]
    Likewise:
    1. Why would Cryptic let go of possibly dozens of talented developers? Were they not so talented? Not so wanted? Was Cryptic that bad a place to work? Seems odd.
    2. There is talk of a transition period. If just about every single person has jumped ship to NCSoft, what is there to transition? NCSoft was already part of every decision, so what is transitioning? I get the feeling that the real transition is yet to come. Where lots of new hires come in, get trained and up to speed, then one by one the old cryptic crowd stealths their way back to their old jobs/company.

I just don't get the whole EVERYBODY jumped ship. Maybe Cryptic would no longer have work for them? Get layed off or take the new job?

I find it hard to believe that Cryptic was so bad a place to work or that these employees were of so little consequence that they could jump ship or be let go en masse.

    [/ QUOTE ]

They're transitioning to a new office. They'll be doubling or trippling the staff on the CoH Dev team. When you add new people, you have to train them and get them up to speed. I think you're being parnoid about people going back to Cryptic. They already have a seperate development team working on MUO. I doubt they have vacant jobs for the CoH team to go back to.

As for why Cryptic would let them go? Money. The sale of the CoH IP to NCSoft was probably contingent on the majority of the development team coming along with it. Money talks.
