I don't beleive MUO is going to want to take up more than 1/2 of a users hardrive with updates... so that leaves... what about 8 gigabytes for updating space?
[/ QUOTE ]
360s will have 5 times the HD space later this year with an updated model.
[/ QUOTE ]
Huh. That should result in a price drop for the older models, no? -
[ QUOTE ]
Oooh, can we reduce the recharge time for Dark Consumtpion in the Dark Mastery APP for Defenders, too?
I mean, it's great and all, but the recharge is 4 minutes.
[/ QUOTE ]
By the time it recharges, I've forgotten I have it! -

Awesome, thanks for linking that. Interesting to finally see the origin of the Cryptic Studios name. I'd never seen that explained before.

"City of Heroes was very tightly focused on moment to moment combat," Rogers says. "The Marvel game will have more big components to it. It's going to be all the stuff we wanted to put into City of Heroes, and you'll get to run around in Marvel costumes. We've got more money now and more people. We'll add more depth. We want to take it to the next level."
[/ QUOTE ]
Thats a bit disheartening for CoH players. We're the reason Cryptic has more money. The quote makes it sounds like the plan is, put all the awesome ideas we wanted to have in the old game into the new game.

"It's pretty much whack-a-mole," Rogers says of his role as a manager on days like these. "Everybody is running around wondering why Captain America's shield doesn't go up when he gets hit. But on a usual day, it's people at their desks with their heads down making stuff."
[/ QUOTE ]
Looks like MUO is getting our shield sets.
[/ QUOTE ]
Perhaps not, but likely. It could just be a costum costume piece for Captain America.
=. .=
[/ QUOTE ]
A game involving Captain America where you can't use his shield as a weapon is a crime against humanity. Seriously, its in the Geneva convention. -

[/ QUOTE ]
I don't even understand what this means. Is this just another way of saying "Spider-man and Hulk clones for everyone", or does it mean "tights and Kirby discs"? Either way, I don't know if I'd count that as a point in MUO's favor.
It still seems disingenous to produce a product that is actively in competition with another of your own products, but I really don't see support for CoX drying up. As near as I can tell, the two games will have their own separate teams for the most part, so the important part - having people working on and updating CoX - is secured.
[/ QUOTE ]
But Jack is getting at the fact that Marvel is going to have a much larger team because now they have more money, leaving CoX's team much smaller.
[/ QUOTE ]
Thats not necessarily true. Read the article again, note how they've expanded the staff so much that they're moving into a new building. -

There aren't enough Super Hero/Comic Book MMO Players out there to support TWO MMOs.
[/ QUOTE ]
Let alone THREE titles. Right, DC / Sony?
[/ QUOTE ]
On the other hand, three years ago, who would have thought there were 6 million or whatever people out there interested in playing a fantasy MMO?
The analysis on MMORPGchart.com raises an interesting point. MMOs are dominated by the Fantasy genre (96% or something), while on Television, Sci Fi is far, far, more common than Fantasy of the Swords and Sorcery type. Whose not to say that there isn't a huge market out there for a really good Sci Fi or Super Hero MMO if the game is good enough to get its hooks into the non-gamer market the way WoW has? -

Rick and I came up with Crypteia since we'd both worked on Cryptozoology first. We were trying to come up with names based on the "crypt-" part...

Krypteia was also the name of the "secret police" of Sparta, that kept the slave workers in line.

Jack has said before all is good with COX. How many more times do you people gotta hear it? Geezuz.
[/ QUOTE ]
With all respect to Jack, we all know he's going to say that. As a public representative of Cryptic and CoH, theres nothing else he can say, especially on boards owned and operated by their business partners.
To say anything besides "we're going to continue to support CoH just as much as in the past" would be the equivalent of jumping in front of a bus. It would open him up to all sorts of attacks from board posters, and raise questions with Cryptic's business partners, as well as potentially affecting people's decisions on whether or not to keep subscribing.
Thats not to say that its not true, but like a politician, Jack is constrained in what he can and cannot say. -

Personally, I'm going to stand back and watch MUO for a while before I make any choices on it. I'm pretty wary of online games that have a big name attached to it. World of Warcraft and Final Fantasy XI are good examples.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm hopeful that Cryptic will give preferential beta access to CoH players. It seems likely, so perhaps we'll all get to see what its like in MUO Beta.
[/ QUOTE ]
That would be freaking sweeeeeeeeeeet. I am so hopeful and excited about MUO. The devs have shown us how much they have learned with things like the new Faultline and how powers are slowly being better balanced.
I don't get all the fear-mongering that CoX is doomed. That's not liable to happen. Sure, I doubt there will be as many of us, but doomed? Pfff. Then Ultima Online, Everquest 1, and all those other ancient games never should have lasted as long as they did/have/are. Actually, it seems once an MMO has really established itself and settled in, like CoX has, it just doesn't one day on the way to the proverbial fridge have a heart attack and die.
=. .=
[/ QUOTE ]
Its not so much that CoH is doomed. I don't think that, and I don't think its a useful discussion really. That said, the article gives a heavy impression that Cryptic's energy and innovation will be directed primarily to the new game. And given the recent history of six month waits between updates to CoX, it makes me wonder how much respect Cryptic is giving the the game that made them what they are today. -

Leave the Shivan. When not used by someone who constantly uses them, I think they're just right.
Someone like me, which I'd assume is the majority, only gets the Shivans very rarely. I got my first shivan power in over a month last night when I wanted to solo my Scirocco Arc. Needed him for all the Psi Elite Bosses.
Since (once again, just my feeling on this) the majority of players use the Shivans only in rare instances, it would be a shame for them to... ya know, suck.
Edit: Almost forgot. Nukes seem about right too, for the level of difficulty in getting them. In my experience, I get killed at least twice when I try to get one.
[/ QUOTE ]
Its very possible for the Shivans to be reduced but still be valueable. A nerf need not be crippling. -
[ QUOTE ]
So, presuming that Nukes and/or Shivans are going to be nerfed no matter what...
...what form should the nerfing take?
[/ QUOTE ]
Shivans would likely get demoted a class or two. They're Elite Bosses right now. They'd likely go down to Boss or Lt. Class. -
[ QUOTE ]
Before you nerf shivan and nukes, you might want to
consider making them less reliable.
Like say making nukes affect everyone in their
range. As for shivan, maybe a rad explosion when they die
or their span runs out or even limiting their active time.
Soloist like myself rely on these to take out the EBs. Nerfing
them would hurt us and our gameplay style.
[/ QUOTE ]
Making them less reliable would be a nerf. Any reduction in the powers effectiveness or added drawbacks fits the commonly used definition of nerf. -
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
Or the Devs can do what the really need to do & nerf the Shivan Temp power. Grats to the Shivan for another fine display!!!
[/ QUOTE ]
Exactly. The only thing that is 'proven' in these threads is that Shivans are overpowered. Bragging about 'soloing' while using Shivans always reminds me of hunters who bag their game using the latest high tech rifles: my reaction is always "I'll be impressed when you do it with your bare hands."
[/ QUOTE ]
I have to agree. Whoo, poping powerful temp powers and guzzling inspirations. All these threads about "soloing" AVs with Shivans, Warburg nukes, and a pile of inspirations are just attention begging. -

By the way, whoever keeps going around one-starring every thread I create I developed a program as you can see to fix that

Yeah they will ban me because I starred my own thread. They might as well ban the people that go around 1 or 5 starring every topic in a forum on a given day.

We will see how the webmaster feels about you using programs to manipulate the message forums. Say Hello to Friggin Taser when you aren't busy hugging the mirror.

I've been wondering that myself. If this series is going to hold anyone's attention, it needs to be updated on a fairly regular schedule.

Godwin's Law: As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches one.
Are you sure Godwin's Law is the one you mean to reference here?
[/ QUOTE ]
I think that he means the more common usage of Godwin's law, at least, the more common one that I have seen used, that states that as soon as Godwin's Law is true, the argument is automatically lost by the one who causes it to be true.

Thats what I meant. I should have said "fulfilling" instead of "breaking." My bad. -

Oh I missed that part of pt's post. You're totally corect though. Using extreme examples is a really poor method of communication. Comparing your paper cut to a sucking chest wound isn't doing anyone any favours.

Also, the fact that CuppaJo did not hold herself aloof and act solely as a traffic cop was not a flaw.
[/ QUOTE ]
I agree that Cuppa's involvement in the community was a good thing. I also dont agree in the slightest that Lighthouse is acting solely as a traffic cop if you were implying that.
We're getting much superior response to bug report threads on the forum than I've observed previously, and Lighthouse has posted a number of non-traffic cop posts in his time here.
[/ QUOTE ]
Lighthouse => in California if not in the Cryptic office itself.
CuppaJo => in Austin
It does make a difference.
[/ QUOTE ]
Definetly. I think whoever decided that some of the NCSoft community people should be on sight at Cryptic's office's had a very good idea.
Its a lot easier to wander down the hall and say "Bob, whats up with this bug we're hearing about on the forums" than it is to talk to Bob on the phone from hundred's of miles away, and possibly a time zone or two away. I'm not up on my American time zones, but I'm guessing Austin is an hour or two ahead of Los Gatos. -

<QR>
I have a question for the people saying that they see apparantly unofffensive threads getting deleted, while other clearly rules violating posts stick around.
Do you guys actually report the offensive threads that aren't deleted? Or PM Lighthouse or Cricket about them? -
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
As for people who complain/state that their post disappeared (either in this thread or another thread), it is not because your post was in violation. The way the CoX forum software works, when you delete a post, all of the posts that are replies to that post get deleted as well. (I don't know how far down the reply path it goes, but I suspect it is quite far)
[/ QUOTE ]
My understanding of the forum engine (IANA UBB code developer), is that a thread is stored as a reply tree. Every reply is a sub-branch to what ever branch or root (OP) message that the reply is set to be "to". When you trim a branch, ALL replies under that branch, sub branch, and leaves, are deleted as well. I've actually tested to see if they simply got orphaned, and they did not. Requesting to view a sub-branch to a deleted message resulted in an access denied message.
[/ QUOTE ]
You can see how this works with threads if you click on "threaded" at the top of the page, and it shows how their are chains of posts. If the first one in the chain goes, they all do.
This is actually something that has improved since Lighthouse came on board, since he'll sometimes just edit out the offensive text of a post and post a warning. -

All of them? Even questionable ones, or questionable interpretations of them?

Since NCSoft owns the space, yeah.

I am a by Gods customer and the amount of control I am willing to give a vendor has significant limits.
I am not particularly annoyed by the staff or the rules, but Christ and Horus in a crap game, folks, do you really go through life bowing to "the rules" this way? Accepting the dictates of authority because it IS authority, and telling others to do the same?
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah, you're such a rebel. <eyeroll> Keep on fighting the man there. Maybe throw in a "the customer is always right" while you're at it. You're a customer, one of thousands. Theres nothing special about that.
If you aren't willing to abide by the conditions by which the business sets for use of its property, then don't use it.
Don't like the No Smoking policy in a restaraunt? Don't eat there. Allergic to shoes, but the local sandwich shop has a "No Shoes, No Shirt, No Service" rule? Well, you can't eat there then. This is basic stuff. There's no oppression going on here. This isn't about "bowing to authority", its about the way businesses work. To use the property and services provided by a business, you have to agree to the conditions that business sets forth.
That doesn't mean you have to accept those conditions in all facets of your life. If you want to eat a sandwich in a park or at home while smoking and barefoot, you're perfectly free to do so. Just dont expect a business or anyone else to let you do so in their space.
