Have they posted system specs for Ultra Mode anywhere yet? Ive been out of town for a few weeks and curious. Haven't seen anything yet.
Thanks

Quote:Solid idea in a serious vein. I'd get onboard with this. Definitely remove the delay.Or a second brawl maybe. Ok seriously though I think that there are ways to fix Time Bomb without violating the cottage rule. The main problems are the 8 second interruptable cast time and the 30second delay which make the power annoying to use under most circumstances. The core concept of a nuke-level damage power with a long recharge is fine. My solution is to rename it Satchel Charge, give it a short range (20'-30') remove the delay and reduce the cast time to 2-3 seconds not interruptable.
-->Coh101: That's an interesting idea for sure. I've played multiples of every AT, and while i'm not a 'Defender-centric' player I don't think an ST heal is needed. I did just play my TA/Arch to 50 after all, loved every minute of that.
Thanks

Quote:So everyone agrees that my 4 year old assessment of those two powers was right on, great. If you've got a high recharge build so you can have 2 Triage Beacons out at once you actually bring a large amount of survivability to the team with all the regen and +def from FFG (and Maneuvers if you take it).
Unfortunately, most fights don't last long enough for this to matter, but on fights long enough, (like AV/GM fights in TFs), its very nice.
I do wish Triage was mobile though.
To Silas: Agreed about the roving beacon, it would be cool to take a bit lower Regen rate in exchange for mobility. Also, if the Time Bomb was ditched in favor of.....say....the Gun Drone!! that would be nicer. Highly unlikely, but hey, I can defend you by mowing stuff down with a portable floating gun, right?
Seriously tho, replacing Time Bomb with anything else would be lovely. Smoke Grenade maybe......

Quote:I figured something like that, but what the hay do I know, my tech kanowledge is low. However, I really appreciate the informfative replies by you two, helpful and enlightening.A while ago, when PhysX was still quite new to the game you used to be able to install the PhysX drivers and it would allow you to enable it. It no longer works like that. I don't think it was ever intended to work like that.
As for everything else, you are correct. CoH does not support PhysX outside of Ageia's physical card. It doesn't recognize nVidia's version. It's not actually emulation though. nVidia integrated PhysX into their CUDA system. So it's still hardware based PhysX, it's just that CoH wasn't coded to recognize it at all, only the physical PhysX card from Ageia.
Thanks again

Thanks for the replies gang. This set just got so fun with SO's.
More:
What are peoples thoughts on Trip Mine and Time Bomb? My experience with those on me devices blasters was: I never took Time bomb, it seemed so unpractical after watching a slew of others flail around with it, I could be wrong. Trip Mine, while cool, took so long to set up even with max recharge SO's, it wasn't worth having around because I just wouldn't 'go to it' often enough.
Thankee

Thanks for that reply Master. I'll sniff around and see what I can find about the prerendered frames option.
As to the other part, I do not have a Aegia card. I actually just got my comp back from being fixed. The video card was replaced among other things. Old card was a 9800 GT 1 Gig onboard w/Physx support, EVGA. New Card is not an EVGA but has the same specs including the Physx support. The old card is what I was able to enable that in-game option with.
It was my understanding that the PhysX in the newer cards was basically the same thing as the actual seperate Aegia card. Now I really don't know what the hell to think!
Thanks again

Hey all, been reading this thread so I rolled a Traps/Sonic the other day and got him up to 23.
Love the set, great mixed bag and with SO's turning out to be super fun to play and powerful.
Curious as to what people are putting where since I haven't found a guide for this set yet.
Slotting for Seeker Drones?
Slotting for Poison Gas Trap?
Love to here what you guys are doing.
Thanks

Questions:
I am running an Nvidia 9800 GT with 1 Gig of onboard. I have all my settings set to these specs.
Question 1: I have an option in my Nvidia control panel NOT listed here: Maximum number of prerendered frames. This is currently set at 3 and I have no idea what it does or what the setting should be.
Question 2: In my control panel my PhysX support is Enabled, in-game the option is still greyed out. Does Coh not support this any more? I used to be able to enable it in-game. Can anyone shed any light here.
Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks

Thanks for the replies all, that helps, I'll look into it and try those suggestions.

New Question, any help would....help.
Both my accounts were active during this period, I am seeing the badges on some characters and not others. What gives?
Thanks

No, not functional. Functional makes it complicated to place anywhere I want.

My dream scenario for this is a modern take on the zone, where the Midnighters and heroes try to reclaim the zone, while villains sneak in to cause mischief (special new Mayhem mission, Strike Force, and Trial).
On top of that an Ouroboros arc that let's us witness the darkening, and do what little we can to prevent the spread of that disaster beyond the boundaries of the zone.

Fantastic story. This in particular caught my eye.
My last girlfriend has a son who is now 10. We are all still very close. He was 8 when he started asking me about City of Heroes.
He loves games. He thinks an adult that plays video games is the coolest thing since sliced bread.
When he saw me playing, he wanted to play. When they came over for dinner at my place I would always let him play. This turned into me buying them an account of their own for Xmas the next year.....
...... And like your daughter, he didn't call Clockworks clockworks, he always called them 'Tinkerbots'. That always cracked me up and 'Clickity Clacks' cracks me up to.
So wonderous, the mind of a child. -

I particularly love it that you included a section on strategy. That's often a lot more important than simple power choices, but power choices tend to be what guide writers concentrate on. My little earth/rad will be doing a lot better thanks to you. Okay, well, I hope so anyway. If she's not, that'll be all my fault.
[/ QUOTE ]
Agreed wholeheartedly. The other thing I also like is the personal 'notes' and comments. I want to here what you think from using these powers in real game situations, same thing with slotting. Too often, I think, people do not include this in their guides and I think it makes them lacking.
I have been playing for around 30 months, I feel like I have a decent grasp of how the 5 main ATs work.........but I still always read guides, especially good ones, especially like this one.
Yes, I think this is one of the best, most thorough guides I've ever read. I hold this one high with Luminara's Trick Arrow Guide and Mighty Scourge's Storm Defender Guide.
Lemme tell you what I like the most:
[*]Lists
[*]Lots of lists
[*]I think lists make things easier to read and understand. When I am reading something in list form..............wooosh, I love it.
[*]So, thanks for taking the time to write this fantastic guide......
[*]...........but mostly for the lists. -
Oh, in addition to the Ziggurat toon in Bricks, the Ziggurat remix in Pocket D is also a must-have.
-
2 of my Favs that I know are not on the ftp site are the Port Recluse/Sharkhead and the Ziggurat themes. The Zig theme was also used in the DMZ in the old Rikti Crash site.
-
A congrats to Surra on hitting 50 with her Invul/EM tank last night with me (Sasquatch Lord WP/WM) also hitting 50.
I never take one single toon all the way up from the bottom to 50. I usually bop all over the place. I stuck with this one being as I was having a Blast playing tank team with Surra. Did over 30 levels together. I was also having a blast playing with some great people here on Pinny.
So thanks to you all, was a great time!
We both did the run from PI to Atlas to level up with Ms. Lib. Never had heard of that and thought that was fun, had Man with Kin and Sam Tackett along for the run.
Also thanks to Kinesis and Avarix who were both pretty much there for the whole run too. Aaaaaand Sho, Pun, Syk, Righthand, Red...........too blown out to remember the rest. Yes, I know it's 11 am....... -
Excellent guide! Thank you.

Great guide for a great combo of powers. Good to see it was finally written and done so well.
Mine is up around 30 atm and I love the set so much. Defenitely NOT a build/combo I'd reccommend for a newish player as it is super tight and fairly complicated.
The two things I really love about this guide are:
You don't bash the lvl 1 attack. In my experience with a DM/DA, DM/SR and a DM/Reg, this is the best lvl 1 power out of the box. Extremely underrated. It does lovely damage with a fast recharge. Agreed, core of single target chain which is a lot of what DM is all about. In general, I think people bash the lvl 1 power of too many sets/AT's in general and I believe there is a lot of utility in there and that they ARE worth slotting. I don't always do that, but I have probably more often than not. Of course, that is merely a matter of opinion. I read somwhere in the defender forums a while back about a fast recharge power fully slotted doing ultimately more Dam with less End cost or somesuch thing. It makes sense, at least to some degree and/or in certain situations.
Second thing I love: No travel. The two things I've gotten over in my 30 months playing are debt and travel. I don't really care too much about either. Debt is a fact of life in here, and the 2slot Sprint, CJ, Hurdle, Swift combo gets you around the city nicely. The GvE jump pack with all that is great if you need a bit more help. I love that you axed travel. I have so many Natural characters that I do this with or I just don't want to waste powers on travel or worry about setting up for travel at 14. I used to when i first started playing but now I don't. And of course the temp travels. I've been able to milk a few into the late 30s. Doin' that with my WP Tank atm. So no, it isn't neccesary. I watch everyone going to missions sometimes as I'm running over there. I usually get there same time as everyone else or just after. So it's not too slow. -
Wow. What can one say? I have read you're original TA/A guide many times and pointed people there many more times.
That was an excellent guide but this absolutely blows it out of the water. Well done Luminara!Same great stuff as the original with even more info. Especially in regards to notes and thoughts on all the powers and the slotting. I really like seeing this in any guide and I'm glad you expounded on that part.
This is one of the most comprehensive guides I've ever read, along with Gamemasters DM/DA Bible. And it is also one of the best. Thanks for taking the time to do this. I have played my own TA/A up to 38 or 39, absolutely love the set and would have to say anyone that makes one and doesn't read this guide first is silly.
Thanks again

This is my First and Only MMO. I am SO glad I didn't start with one of those - might have left and never come back! Thanks for summarizing this. I hope some magazine picks it up and publishes it somewhere.

Ditto. I've been playing games since I was a weee boy. Started on the 2600 and never looked back. I have been a console gamer all the way. When My buddies hooked me into this, that was pretty much it. I only play this game now. This one, no other. Playstation 2 finally busted: whatever, who cares.
I had never played an MMO before this and everything I here from other people about the communities and the people and the game mechanics make we want to not try them all. Besides I'm too much of a comic geek to bother.
So, right on to Brad, everyone who posted similar sentiments, and the whole thread in general. This needed to be said and should be more often. Thanks to the whole CoX team!! King's to you. You've made the best game i've ever played!

Great guide. First Tank with Fire so this was great to have as a guideline. Posting my own build for variation.
-Unless I'm getting really pounded by multiple enemies with KB, I have found so far that the one KB IO does great.
-Immob: Right now trying to get it reduced with IO bonuses. We'll see if it bears fruit.
-The Healing FLames setup I used is giving me 97% heal and rech->very nice.
-Maybe hard to tell, but all other enh in the build that are not IO sets are in fact regular IO's in the 30-35 range.
-Important note: This Tank is tough as hell and fun to play.
