Quote:Excuse me but a properly built Empath can even handle a few bosses. I can "****" a boss quite easily without pets. More than one boss at a time can be done depending on what they do.Dark/Sonic
You mentioned Empathy. Did you just recently look into defenders ?
Sorry, not being snarky, but Empaths suck at soloing anything tougher than a Lieutenant.
Mine currently can solo +0/x3 no bosses with Uncommon Ion, Spiritual, Reactive, Storm Pet, and the Rare Clarion for perma mez protection. And I STILL manage to face-plant regularly.
So dont choose Empathy if you are looking for a Super Hero.
If you are face-planting that much, then perhaps you suck not Empathy. -
Quote:Maybe someone has already pointed this out, but I wanted to come back and address a big fallacy in this post (focusing on the bolded text)...My favs being Dominators, Corruptors, Defenders. I know defenders role are to buff heal what have you, but there damage is way to low in my oppinion. I know there must be other post out there. I just wish that they would increase there damage output. No I am not say defenders should be blaster or scrappers damage out put, but just a little more would make me happy.
Please dont slam my post to much lol
When most people think of a Defender, it seems that people automatically think of Empathy. And, while Empathy is certainly a power set seen more on Defenders than their Controller friends, there are quite a number of other sets available to defenders. In fact, except for 2 defender primaries, almost all of the defender primaries are quite heavy on "debuffing." Yes, even Kinetics, which does a great job of buffing damage, uses a lot of debuffs. Only Force Fields and Empathy lack any real ability to debuff enemies (but thanks to Interface even someone with one of those 2 sets can bring debuffs just by being on the team).
Given that fact, I think it is rather ignorant to say that defender damage needs more help. Sure, it may be "sub par" in terms of comparison with other archetypes. But, defenders get their blasts as a secondary set, which means that the "numbers" will "suck" comparatively. However, it can be argued (quite well actually) that debuffing a target can effectively increase your own damage. The enemy loses any amount of Defense or Resistance and you are causing them to take in more damage.
However, I would not count Empathy or Force Fields out of the contest just yet. Due to their ability to be quite self-sufficient in terms of their own survival, they, too, can boost their damage (indirectly). There are many ways that an Empathy or Force Field defender can increase their damage output (though not quite as much as others can). In fact, my own Empathy/Dark defender is no sloth in damage when I want/need it.
And, when you consider the boost defenders get from their buffs/debuffs coming as a primary, stick them on a team and a defender's impact is amazing. Just add one Empathy or Force Field to a team (where no support is present) and the effectiveness of the entire team multiplies by leaps.
Well, to make a long story short, people who post stuff like the OP did clearly show how much they do not understand what defenders can do... -
Unfortunately, the channel is private so you will need an invite to it by one of the mods. I am a mod and would be happy to help people join in who (genuinely) want to be a regular contributor to the raid's success.
-
No. On July 1, those who are subscribers began receiving 400 Paragon Points per month. The game is not free to play just yet -- that is probably going to happen more close to probably October.

Hamidon Raids on Freedom are generally hosted by those people associated with the "Freedom Hami Raids" global channel. Just taking a guess that the channel was created for those who like to be frequent attendees of the raids, those who regularly are willing to lead them, and those people who are familiar enough with the mechanics of the raid to help out the general public once the raid announcements are spammed.
If attending Hamidon raids is something you'd like to do more often, you will want to contact a channel moderator for an invite. I am one of the mods and would be happy to welcome more people into the channel. The only real "rule" of the channel is we ask people *not* to spam raid announcements outside of the channel until that raid's leader does. It takes a bit for the leaders to set up and having a bunch of people flooding the zone asking for league invites divides their focus.
Just got to thinking maybe one of the channel mods/raid leaders might want to write up a little "guide" to how we run the raids on Freedom. We do get frequent "newbies" at the raids or wanting to help out and would be good to have something they can read for info. -
Empathy is always the most useful power set in the game to have around. Yes, the other sets may offer things that an Empath would like to have or makes direct healing less important. But, there is no replacing the consistency that Empathy has.

It isn't that I don't pay attention to the boards. It's more that I don't always remember names unless it sticks out in some way.

Quote:What I find funny is this is on page 4 long after things have run their course. If anything, this kind of late post shows that there are, indeed, some people who just can't seem to wrap their mind around whatever the original post was intended for. And, by the time a post like yours pops up, the original argument is so far in the past that it feels like it is desparately trying to be relevant.Human element? Like making this your "job" instead of a game? No thanks.
And E/Luna, you guys never make any of the stuff you run feel like that. Even the no-nonsense Top Ten SG gets a kick out of having us around being "inefficient". The time me, Tundy, and Captain Denmark (TT SG Leader) cut up for a few minutes on a BAF it took longer, but everyone started cracking jokes in League chat. Just old skool stuff, nothing cutting edge, but it was awesome. Might have taken a few minutes more, but we still beat it. People hung out for about 12 runs, chatting up the entire time.
If I play toons with support powers, it's by accident. Corrs and Controlers are not buffers. You expect me to buff instead of Control or toss Corr dmg, start paying my sub fee. The second you act like you should be sitting behind my keyboard is the second I quit the team. For anyone. Or you get no SB if I'm not booted, even with the 20.5 change. Which hurts the entire team because eventually I would have remembered on my own. That's not treating someone like a human at all.
Again, this is a game, not a job. If you want to judge someone's performance and tell them what to do, go back to real life and be someone's boss yo.
Honestly, I find DrGemini's whole attitude about this thing is insulting. He isn't expected to act humanely (very bitchy and cranky, see bold above). We all, his teammates, have to pick up his slack on personality slotting. And we don't know him from Null the Gull. Like our lives and jobs don't do the same to us. Belittle us more, please.
If he would have been on a Lambda (I think, might have been a BAF) J-Force was on this weekend he probably would have had a conniption fit.
Situation: We had 9 or 10 people on, plus friends (Morna and a few others) on someone else's Lambda.
First funny thing: Morna and Lieran were constantly asking the League Lead to get them on the same team. It sounded like two kids on a school bus wanting to sit next to each other.
Second funny thing: Mac/Dragao and I decided to do the "He's touching me" "No I didn't, I'm just pointing at you really really close" "I wanna be over there on that side" bit from siblings riding in a car, because it fit the situation. Only we did this instead of killing stuff because it was funny for a bit.
How the leader handled it: Like an exasperated parent, but still did it which was even funnier, asking us if we were happy now.
How it ended up: He ended up playing along even more later when things got a bit hairy, even threatened to "Turn this Lambda around and go home" in the trial. And we beat it down, even with a bit of fun trow'd in there.
From how Gemini paints himself (Miss Prissy Pants w/Attitude) all four of us would have been booted. He'll chime in and say something about having a sense of humor, but that wouldn't be consistent with his concrete "this is the way it is, my way or the '/em kick button twitches' " stance on teaming. Which again, would be funny since he obviously can't have it both ways and told us to straighten up and fly straight from the get go. No funny business.
Thing is that my post seems to have drawn out quite a few people who are finding ways to create more of an enterainment factor than I even imagined possible... -
I don't really have anything else to say. People are continuing the drama without my help...
There are a few individuals I wouldn't mind ranting about but... -
One thread, endless entertainment. Gotta love people...
-
For the most part, I can say that I've teamed up with some great people. I really don't have that many complaints or people I could name that have been problems. In fact, 99% of the PUGs I join/run are pretty great.
The ironic part is that some of my complaints seem to be well-addressed in the upcoming new stuff
AoE SB, ID... 7 years I have waited for this news cause it will make it a lot easier -
I have had some interesting results with the lore pets I've picked for my toons.
My Emp has the T4 Seers. The damage output by the boss is pretty significant. I think I've seen it doing upwards of 400 damage a hit.
My controller (elec/kin) tried the warworks and the clockwork. As far as I can tell they seemed to be equally useful. The warworks ACU does seem to have a pretty nice AoE attack.
For the most part, I've chosen the pets that I felt would be the most helpful when I need the extra bodies/damage. -
Ok the pseudo drama has run it's course... we return you to your regularly scheduled forums
-
Quote:Honestly, anyone reading anything more into this than *maybe* blowing off some steam is taking it way to seriously :PNot on Freedom, no. Drama like this just paints you as an off-server player, honestly.
Your post is pretty much meant for players who don't read the forums, by and large. And, if you can't tell, it's as much use as throwing a hand grenade into a poop pile in order to kill the smell.
If you want to do something more constructive, make up a series of /macros citing your needs for everyone who're joining your team. That way, people can decide then and there if you're the paragon of wisdom or a Mussolini with the team star.
I'm being nice with this one. Leave the drama off our boards, and focus on playing the game. You got complaints, then resolve it in the game. Unless it's about me, Luna, J-Man, Trix, E-Man, or one of a dozen other forum loudmouths (and I use this definition affectionately), your complaints won't reach your intended targets by posting here.
I think my in-game reputation speaks for itself. There are times I do get cranky but I think most people who have teamed with me in some form walk away having had a lot of fun and feeling like they enjoyed being part of a good group as most of the people I team with tend to be good, competent players.
Though, the introduction of these new iTrials (BAF/Lambda) seems to have brought out a large number of the "idiot" crowd who don't listen no matter what you do. You could use every possible means to communicate with them and they still seem to find their way onto the short bus... -
Quote:Like moths to a flame...Thank you for posting your global so I know how to avoid you. If it's not too much trouble, would you mind also posting a list of all your characters so I won't have to go through the tedium of looking up your global and can skip straight to the 'ignore' stage?
Oh, wait - Freedom. Nevermind.
I have successfully started forum drama. Do I qualify to be part of the "in" crowd? -
Quote:At least you would be useful for venge baitPreachin' to the choir man. And the ones who need to hear it would never come to the forums.
If I ever team with you, I'm going to Leeroy Jenkins it for the LULZ.
Make a second build, unslotted except for KB and cast grant invisibility on everyone. Recall team mindlessly. -
Quote:Some of these things I suppose I assume are not needed to be said. But, maybe I need to "be more clear."Do you advertise these things in advance?
[Dr Gemini]: Forming a +4 level kill-all ITF. Expected time: 1 hr 3 min. Support must keep up their (de)buffs and DPS toon must kill em all and all follow my directions or I'll be mean to you. PST.
And, no, my intention is not to be mean to anyone. I am just trying to educate people so that teams are much more enjoyable for all (not just the ones I lead) because I'm sure no one leading a team wants to deal with BS if they can avoid it. -
I've been receiving a lot of interesting feedback lately. So, I thought I would just lay it out for people so there is no misunderstanding...
When I run a team/group, I am pretty much of the opinion that everyone who joins does so of their own free will. I can advertise all day long and you do not have to join teams run by me. Let's just be up front about that. And, I am of the opinion that when you join a team run by me or another person, you are generally agreeing to follow the instructions/directions and fulfill the expectations that person has.
My main expectation is that people on my team are reasonably intelligent and able to perform their role well without having to really be asked. If you are playing a toon with "buffs," then I generally expect that you will make use of those buffs as much as possible. Yes, maintaining some buffs may be annoying, particularly in large groups, but your contribution goes a long way. Even something as simple as spreading out those nifty "Fortune" buffs can help a lot.
Also, I expect (within reason) that people know what's going on and do their best to help the team achieve our objective(s). I do not like having people along who are totally clueless. Even if you have never done something before, you ought to make your best effort to learn so that in the future you know what to do.
Most importantly, I look for people who can take directions and follow them without me having to ask you more than a couple times, preferably only once.
If things are not going well or I feel people are being stupid, just expect that I tend to get very bitchy and cranky. If you can't handle it, just don't join my teams.
In fact, if you can't handle being expected to function at a reasonable level of intelligence, just don't ask to join my teams. I won't be offended.
Other things to know...
I am a huge fan of KILLING stuff. So if you join my team, don't get upset when it isn't the fastest, speediest, ITF in town. If you don't like taking it slower and enjoying a good time, then don't bother joining.
I also like +4 runs. To me, the game is incredibly easy and cranking up the difficulty keeps me entertained longer. Again, if you aren't willing to take up the challenge, then don't join.
A BIG annoyance to me are the people who sign up for one of my +4 KILL ALL TFs, but then the team gets weak-kneed and wants to just "get it done." If you sign up for one of my special teams, don't turn around and be a pansy and start complaining about the time. If you signed up, then I assume you have the time to stay for however long it takes. Which, these days, +4 stuff really doesn't take that long.
Anyways, just putting this out there to disarm those who think they can ***** at me about stuff. You have been forewarned and have no excuse. Feel free to spread the word. Not my problem if people can't handle being on an awesome team.
FYI... I have no regrets about kicking people from my team(s) who I find to be too much of a drag on the team. -
Quote:Responses in bold. This is a very intolerant attitude, and quite ignorant if I do say so myself. I'd say more, but that much would get modded for sure.
Perhaps to you. To me, I simply do not have the patience like I used to have. You are either able to bring to the team ALL that your character has to offer and wield it well or not. I'm not so fond of people who can't/don't/won't. The only exception, of course, are people who are clearly, genuinely, new.
An empathy defender can be a great addition to a team without having any heals. They are not needed, especially if the buffs and debuffs of his secondary are used to good effect. Not every kin needs SB.
No. Simply no. Is it really too much to ask of people to be willing/able to contribute everything they are able to? Is it really too much to ask of people to NOT be so selfish and actually think "How can I be an effective teammate?"
Suffice to say I am quite pleased I've never been on one of your teams. In fact, teams run by people like you are the reason I stopped joining teams at all.
You are, welcome to look at any of my toons and the way I play. I'm not one who just simply talks. All of my toons are well-built and able to fulfill their role(s) well. Is it really too much to ask other people to do the same so that they can be counted on to be a great addition just like I try to be?
I only run teams now, and they're run by my rules:
Any build, any budget, no exclusions.
Like I said, I will gladly show you my characters and how I play. I have led and/or been on many great teams. If I come across as being "intolerant" and "ignorant" for having certain (reasonable) expectations, then I'll just have to deal with being not liked by some people. -
Would like to take issue with some things you said...
Quote:While such a tactic may be worth some humor, it is not something I would tolerate. If you are going to play a certain AT (doesn't matter what), I don't think it is being unreasonable to expect you to build and play that character such that they can make a good addition to the "average" team. Personally, if I was the team leader, I would have kicked you too. In fact, I tend to kick people who bring a toon to my team and you do not have the key powers that make you valuable to my team. I've kicked Kins who don't have SB...I did that once with a character I called Dr. Irony and dressed like a surgeon. When the team leader asked why I didn't heal, I'd say I didn't have any heals, thus, the name. Then I get kicked.
Quote:Anyway, to the OP:
"Healing" for the most part is the least desirable buff, since it assumes damage was taken and now needs to be fixed. Tactically, it is much, much better to never take damage in the first place, and other Defense and Control powers do that pretty well in CoH.
Healing isn't a buff at all. People who even think that healing classifies as a "buff" needs to go pick up a dictionary.
However, "Healing" does come in handy in lower levels before toons have all their other mitigation powers (shields, debuffs, controls). It also comes in handy when the team gets in over their heads, or, when there is a foe that bypasses ordinary defenses (e.g., Hami Raids) or there is overwhelming odds (e.g., MotherShip Raids).
Slightly disagree. I tend to favor the approach of having a variety of characters who can increase the survivability of the team and keep us rolling. IMHO, everything is a welcome addition to my team.
The problems with "Healing" and the Empathy set are:
1. The Empath ignores their buffs (e.g. Fortitude) and their attacks (Primary Set) to be a dedicated "Healer". Most teams don't need that much healing, and so, the healer is basically doing nothing helpful most of the time.
Already addressed a long time ago. But, we must accept there are people who enjoy this role. I discourage people from this style but to each his own.
2. Non-Empaths, most notably certain team leaders, require a "Healer" to be on their team even though they're just going up normal content. They'll exclude other Defenders in order to get that "Healer"; or, they're planning on engaging in over-their-heads activities like herding +4 spawns and need a "healer" to keep them alive. The rest of the team sits backs and waits for the herd, which makes this tactic *less* rewarding since so many people are doing nothing for long periods of time.
Again, we've been over this recurring issue before. Education of the masses is the best solution here.
3. See here. -
After 7 years (off and on) of playing my Emp/Dark, I can tell you that being a total buff/heal bot is absolutely boring. I've managed to set up a nice buff cycle that provides long enough gaps for me to do other things.
Though, I am of the opinion that all these new trials and other content being introduced may increase the usefulness of Empathy. I've seen some of these new AVs, etc put out some big damage. And, it is nice to have good old PBU + Healing Aura to help an entire league recover faster.
IMHO, this is a game where the usefulness of any single AT or power set has more to do with what the situation requires.
Come to think of it, with everyone having access to Interface for debuffs and Destiny for AoE buffs, there are a lot of times when traditional "support" characters may be less required. But, I still prefer to have the classic support available. Nothing like having a good player covering your "six" sometimes.
