I am having a similar issue except my monitor just goes into a standby mode. I have also had a couple of instances of my Video card needing to use the vpu recovery. I am already running in 1024, 768.

The old video drivers is so WoW could be run in this system too, for some reason the newer drivers were disabling the direct draw 3d.
