Can you help Canada deal with the threat of Nemesis?

Mission is full off Canadian references, but is designed to be played by Americans!
  2. [ QUOTE ]

And from what I saw of the folks coming in a bit late, once the main (and not that large, honestly, by the look of the screenshots - not miniscule, but not some massive organization) T_T groups left, there's not much "community" there if the leaders aren't around. I saw groups (duos, generally) of tanks that could well have joined up, SKd lowbies, etc. just standing around, then logging out... that's not a "community building" effort to me, it's not an "event for the sake of the event," it's "Oh, if I'm not with the main group, I'm leaving." I saw multiple tanks (at least one of which I recognized by name) come in, stand (or float) around, and log out.

Probably seven tanks over fourty five minutes. There would, from what I recall, have been exemplar issues or SK issues for *one* if this group had actually decided to band together in what seems to be presented as the spirit of the event. But they did not.

It certainly didn't impress me as to their "community building." I even saw someone who came in late broadcast about it, asking if there was a team - whereupon another member said, "They all left," instead of startting a team.

The behaviour there, as well as in this thread, and the low tactic of trying to drive traffic, has completely destroyed any hope this group may have had of winning me over to supporting this - because that is NOT what a worthwhile community group does.

And as someone who, yes, loves to play my tanks and has - without going to a Tanker Tuesday - been called a very good tank - that's disappointing to me.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Up to this point you were actually starting to win me over. Your reasoning of "not breaking the fourth wall" was a valid reason. I was even beginning to understand your objection due the fact that it effect Champion and has not effected other servers.

So, I'll no longer debate or argue the merits of having the plaque.

Instead I wish to comment on the completely incorrect statement quoted above.

Tanker Tuesday is a prime example of "community", without having to "hand of the wheel" to a new event co-ordinator when one person is unable to fill those shoes, this event has continued with SOME member of the community stepping up to the plate. "Community" is the reason for its continued success.

Tanker Tuesday team are almost 50% mentor and 50% sidekicks (with the exception of teams put together to do taskforces and etc). This allows first time Tanks to team with more experienced tanks. I know this because one of my duties is to help create teams. I put them together and hand over leadership. This team mix contributes towards "community building".

I admit, those who show up to the event LATE have a more difficult time finding a team. By this time the mob of Tanks have already been waiting around and want to get going. Which is fair. We TRY to please everyone, but it is impossible. To compensate for this, we created the "TankHQ" global channel so that if someone shows up late then can still find a team.

Lastly, the tanker who floated around and then logged off was most likely me. But I have a great Excuse. Although I really wanted to team. Being a mommy comes first.

Quite frankly, I find the quoted comment consistent with the type of person who attends events but has never lead one. They don't step up to lead hami raids, they are afraid of the star on a team, they would rather sit back a criticize instead of being a leader.
  3. Put one in the SG base!

Might make a base more useful!

This will not reach those who are interested in its recognition.

I'm just trying to point out that your idea is flawed.

So by that theory, every accomplishment made by you Americans should not be acknowledged by us Canadians, unless it effects us.

Which simply is not true, we acknowledge accomplishment regardless of our involvement.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Servers are separate dimensions, not counties, towns, cities, states, countries, regions, continents or anything of the like. Schools don't teach Rikti history, last time I checked.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I know that Ian, I'm just trying to draw a comparison.

Players making their own reality IS the problem. For anybody who hasn't been on a Tanker Tuesday run, that group's "historical" accomplishments never took place.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Attendance is not a threshold of reality. I've never been to Iraq, but that war has definitely taken place.
  9. Back in Issue one when Unyeilding Tankers could not move, I have the Teleportation power. I would teleport into the middle of a mob and aggro them. We refer to this as "dropping a Tanker bomb."

Now, whenever my baby (Dinah Might!) is crying, or if we just don't want to hold here, we pass her off to someone else. This is now called "Dropping a tanker bomb".

    Level Limited

The Sidekick system, and the ability to play with a large level range is one reason why this game in superior to others. Why would we do anything to counteract this?
  11. [ QUOTE ]

Regarding #2, I need to ask why? Just because past player events have not changed the game content does not mean it must stay in status forever. In fact, starting today, player content will become City lore with MAcrt going live. Players will earn badges for designing missions and content will be available to players of multiple servers. If you create the "Penguins of Mayhem" and write good stories and get players to play and vote, the penguins by definition are now part of City lore. Why can't TT achieve the same thing?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Non-city lore has already affect the content of the game as pointed out by "Kill Skuls" and "Coyote".

    Disprove it.

Wait, what I mean to say is...NO U!

I can't. It is impossible to prove either way. That was my point.

Don't presume to speak for the masses, especially since the number that have spoken for in no way speak in the majority.

GH Certificate from the 1st Players Choice award.

Yes it is a SG that is still active - just like Tanker Tuesday

A collection of themed characters - The theme being country names - just like TT whose theme is tanks.

GH has been 'meeting' every day for nearly 5 years.

I dont think TT is unique as a collection of players and I dont think a plaque is appropriate.

Gold names, Dev coming to the 5th anniversary bash, spot in the scoop and events calandar are all appropriate

    [/ QUOTE ]

This is a server specific certificate, the Player run event one is not.

    [/ QUOTE ]

It was voted on by anyone from any server.

    [/ QUOTE ]

yes, but your award was issued per server. Example yours was issued for Triuph, and yet the exact sameone was issued in someone else's name for Virtue, Protector, and etc.

TT was issue for a cross server reward.

I think my lack of recogntion of this SG adds alot to the debate.

[/ QUOTE ]If so, then the various people in this thread and elsewhere that haven't heard of Tanker Tuesdays is just as relevant.

That's my point. The recognize the validity of the arguement, mine must be accepted as well.

Since we are using the "never heard of" argument, what is Repeat Offenders? A big SG or something?

    [/ QUOTE ]

If you had actually read the last page or two you would know.

Really adds nothing to the debate.

edit: read 5 posts above your's and you will see that Bill went into detail about what RO is.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yes ......well obviously, but the post was that I never head about RO prior to this thread. I mean, ACE went into alot of detail of what TT is too. And i disagree, I think my lack of recogntion of this SG adds alot to the debate.

I am also in favor of some sort of metric or standard to be in place that sets a guideline for ideas like this.

    [/ QUOTE ]

This, I'm fully in support of. (And part of why I'm arguing, as well, honestly. I'm very much "on the side of caution," if you've paid attention to my comments.) And if it leads to some guidelines - whether we see them or not - great.

I mean, of the examples we have... Coyote memorializing a dead player from beta? Bit too high of a barrier to entry Kill Skullz? Dev amused by it as they're thinking of adding other badges, kind of low (or random.) You could see that as "no barrier" or "Dev whim = potentially high barrier."

    [/ QUOTE ]

I agree that a "guideline" should be in place to determine if a player influence should affect the game as a whole, but also feel that 60 consecutive monthly instances of a single event already surpasses any threshold I would determine.

Please remember, and I'm not sure if this was previously brought up, this event was voted best player run event in 2006's (and last time it was held) Player's Choice Awards by ALL servers, not just Champion.

[/ QUOTE ]Kill Skuls came from the forums.

It came from the game, then noted and discussed on the forum.

Tanker Tuesday also came from game, and noted and discussed on forum.
  21. Well I briefly glanced at this thread and am posting to show my support.

The main "objection" to placing this plaque is that the event is "well organized" on one server, while the other servers have had a more difficult time keeping it going, or have not started it all together.

Even if it is a event centralized on Champion server, I still feel it is necessary to acknowledge said event. I mean, "Kill Skuls" didn't happen on my server, yet it got wall graffitti.

    I support this idea.
