  1. Sayterras totally right about the thousand bad drawings that need to get out I have sketch books full of them !

When im work I doodle on post it notes while answering phones , when im at school i'll doodle in the margins of books and such and I can look at sketches from months back and see differences .

Granted my practice drawing has mostly been since I started CoX and a few months before that with Neopets but constant practice does help alot ((I started drawing for two reasons 1:tons of nervous energy so my hands need to be doing something . 2: I wanted art of all the ideas in my head ))

I hope that helps in some small way... *scurries away*

Acck no need to scurry away and definitely no need to make comparisions about skill levels as anyone and everyone is welcome to post their oponion or comments (at least in this thread )

Im intentionally not replying to the critiques even though i've ended up using them as its too easy (for me ) to get pulled into an argumentive debate .

so at best everyone gets a general "Thank You" for their input and I change things that you point at that I may have missed .

At worst everyone gets a general "Thank You" for their input and I don't fix one or two particular things

So far im enjoying it immensely and while I won't do it on every piece , I can definitely see asking for more critiques in the future .

I hope you realized just what you were getting into when you posted this, Scarf. And if not, I'm sure you do by now.

Oh I do , its been an intresting learning experiance and im really happy I did it as theres a lot of things I like far more about the revised picture than the original and things I have been doing that I didn't really realize , such as oversizing my characters heads (a hold over from doing lots of chibis or super deformed caricutures ) and a tendency to neglect the back of my heads thus making them flat .

Im not sure if you got to listen in on the big Critique /no critique debate earlier this month but after reading through it I had to find out for myself what my threshhold was for critiques and can they make me a better artist by listening to them .

So far im seeing that critiques are a very useful tool , im not obliged to listen to all of them but I won't dismiss them out of hand . The Critiques with a overlay showing my original sketch and what folks see as improvements are for me the best learning tool .

My biggest hurdle in all of this has been to take the critiques as friendly advice and nothing to get offended over or argumentive /debatey about . Everyones advice has been useful as a learning tool even if I didn't make every change suggested .

My experiance has been very good so far and I'd suggest anyone feeling particularyly brave should give the critiqueing process both giving and receiving a shot by either posting something of theirs to critique or by helping to critique others when someone starts a thread asking for them specificly .

    ...Man, I need a backstory.

[/ QUOTE ] theres some really awesome writers around here just post some basics and ask for help and ideas then just take what you like from column a and column b

  10. Larissa Rasputin is a professional Dev Arts poster and Page count contest winner , If I ever do think about having a page count contest on DA i'll likely just write a "Larissa Rasputin has won my <random> pageview contest and wins art " blog post and link her art to it as opposed to actually running a contest :P

Its looking really good so far BW .
  11. Sayterra,
Its definitely not late at all for anyone to throw in their comments or crits and I humbley thank everyone for taking the time to do so (and yours are always appreciated regardless )

This sketch was specifficly done so everyone could look it over and then muse about ways to make it better or fix its shortcomings (and its amazing what others eyes pick up on that you might miss in your first go around ! )
and was a direct result of the big forum bally hoo we had over critiqueing and how to do so .

I'll likely take the new batch of crits and adapt the pic this weekend and get in some much needed inking practice (envys you high tech kids with your sci fi tablets and strange esoteric computer skills)

There are some folks art that I just adore so much or look at angrily in envy going "must eat their brains and steal their talent!" or have examples of their work posted over my lil desk .
So to hear one of them state that they like my style or think I show promise often makes me do a quick inward squeel (so as not to alarm my roommate )of happiness
  12. Hee, Thanks ,

Honestly its been an intresting project trying to work with critiques and feedback so im in no real rush .

I figure i'll give one more quick round of feedback then i'll ink and maybe color her this weekend .
  13. After going through the various critiques over this weekend I went ahead and made changes based on the various doodles folks posted with lil squiggle lines showing what they meant .

A noncomprehensive list of changes made
    1)reduced size of head
    2)flipped image
3)reworked outstreatched arm and increased its size
4)reworked tail to add to flow of picture
    5)added to her hip size
6)thinned her chest and waist a bit
7)Started to add detail for shorts and leggings
    8)added thumb to gloved hand

Screenshot of my Blaster , Jinn Anne Tonic

The original rough sketch we used for critiqueing fun

New Sketch based on some of the feedback given

Still a bit to go obviously but coming along (by the way that was the first time I reduced a body part in photoshop ..omg it saves so much time !!! )
