    Trap Powers

Hey I have a level 42 Thugs/Traps. I took every last power in the secondary set. I find that the only one i never use is trip mine. It does massive damage, but with the way villian teams play its all but impossible to get a few of them set up. I keep hoping ill be able to on an av run or something but it has yet to happen. I took stamina, hasten, super speed, and stealth for my power pools. Put a stealth io in and you shouldnt have a problem with laying acid mortar or poison mine down in the middle of a group without risking to much. Its a good idea to three slot hasten and have it auto hit. I find with the proper slotting you can get all your traps up every group, some of them even twice. Remember your going to be running in and out of melee to lay traps. Also i would seriously consider choosing a ranged primary for your pets like thugs or bots because of the shield generator and the triage beacon. Hope this helped
  2. Hi there, I know there is alot of feedback to your reply, but i wanted to chime in my two cents. The great thing about coh is no two builds, characters are the same. You could stand two Energy/Energy blasters right next to eachother, and have them attack the same group, but the way they do so might be very very different. This being said, you can take this down to the single power level. How I use my nuke may be totally different from the way you use your nuke.

One blaster may set out and use his nuke to be up as often as possible

One blaster may wish to do as much damage as possible

One blaster may wish to use there nuke as a swansong

Another may wish to use it to save the life of a fellow hero.

I guess what im trying to say is figure out your own play style, and fit your new power into it. I personally want my nuke to drop as many bad guys as I can, and I want it to be up as often as it can be. On an eight man team my nuke is constanly down due to me using it everytime i can.

    Screw Rad blast

So this is what it comes down to i think. Powerset Proliferation will continue untill every set that can be ported to an archtype has been. So eventually blasters will see dark blast. That being said, the devs are not going to allow any power that makes dark a game breaker. Ultimately that is decided by the devs. My bet is that most of darks de-facto holds/heals/imob/stun will be removed, or gimped to the point of worthlessness. That is just my guess, like i said before, it will be up to the devs in the end. How much dark changes is going to depend on how the devs view blasters role in coh, and how dark would change that roll.

That being said, i had hoped dark would be ported over this round, allthough I am a little disapointed, i am excited to see how rad fits into the blaster role. I for one am looking foreward to I16 and the changes it will bring ....
  4. ok explain to me why people expect sb to be spammed, but dont spam taunt. I would rather have one tanker spamming taunt than 5 kins spamming sb on me. Awesome you said you dont use taunt every group, but wouldnt that make you a better tank if you did. I mean its a usefull power.... thats all im trying to figure out. If spamming a power on one AT that makes the group more effective as a whole, then wouldnt spamming another power that enables the group to focus on damage instead of healing or buffs make it just as effective? Hey if you spam taunt mabye the kin will have time to spam speed boost...
  5. and why wouldnt you spam taunt constantly as a tanker?

You just can't play at the level that other people better than you at playing anything kinetics do, evidenced by the fact that some people can keep sb up and do eveything else you do on a team.

I don't think any further justification is necessary, you just aren't that good.

So from what I can tell your saying that your a crappy kin. if you cant, or dont keep sb up on everyone at all times.....isnt that kind of like saying your a crappy tank if you dont keep everything taunted at all times...i mean its the tanks job to taunt right....so he should be able to taunt everything all the time, and he should do it because its his job? Some kins dont like keeping everybody speed boosted....some tanks dont taunt all the time (i know i dont)...doesnt make them any better, or any worse than other players. They are just choosing to play that particular toon a little differently than others

In my opinion yes, a tank who doesn't hold aggro is a waste of space. That's always been my philosophy ever since I rolled up my first tanker way back in issue 3... if there's any stray aggro then I'm doing my damnedest to get it under control. That's what I'm there for. There are, of course, a lot of ways to accomplish that goal and Taunt is simply one of several tools I have to do that. No, I don't need Taunt every mob, but it comes in handy more than often enough to justify it's place in my tray.

I've always felt that anytime a teammate faceplants while I'm tanking that I should have been able to prevent it absent gross stupidity on the teammate's part. If I'm doing my job correctly then the rest of the team should be able to pour on the pain with impunity. If aggro gets loose then I've screwed up somewhere. If that loose aggro kills a teammate then nobody is to blame but me... it's my fault I lost control of that mob. That's not to say I can't contribute damage as well; damage is after all my secondary reason for being on the team... and it adds to my ability to hold aggro as well.

I admit I have very high standards for any tanker's performance... those are the same standards I hold myself to. I'm a perfectionist in that regard, and no, I don't always manage that perfection but I'm ALWAYS trying for it. I haven't teamed with very many tankers I respect but the ones I do have earned it.

So yes, I do think it's part of the Kin's job to keep SB up just like it's part of the tank's job to hold aggro. And you know what? I've always found that keeping SB up and handling all the other functions that a Kinetic/whatever may have is much, MUCH easier than being a good tanker. Somehow my 50 Mind/Kin 'troller manages to lay down controls, deal out damage, hold troublesome mobs, confuse other mobs, pop Fulcrum Shift, refill the Blaster's end after a nuke with Transference, hit Transfusion as needed, kill mobs and still keep SB up on the entire team. Come on, it isn't that tough and it has a dramatic effect on the team's performance.

I think your missing my point. We both agree that its a tanks job to hold aggro and taunt, and that its a kins job to boost and provide support. What im saying is just because the kin isnt spamming sb doesnt mean there not a good kin. You said yourself you dont taunt every group, but its a handy tool. SB holds a place in the tray of allmost every kin. Why? Because its a valuable tool when needed. Its up to the individual player to decide when that tool is neeed, and how to best put it to use. Just like taunt is a valuable tool....when needed

  8. Hey has this seen any red name attention.... im missing it?? I think its thumbtacked on the top but i dont see any red names...
  9. I was in warburg with a brute. We were getting nukes. I had seen three heros running around getting nukes as well (squishy defender, troller, blaster) I left them alone, because I didnt want a fight and they were getting nukes not pvping. Well they didnt feel the same way and they attacked my brute friend when I wasnt there. Held him, killed him. So I asked which one was giving him the most trouble. He said controller. So I said ok. I found them topside each takeing a scientist to get a key. It was defender, blaster, controller in a nice little line the defender would walk, then the blaster, then the troller. They did this and stayed close. While the defender moved the troller and blaster stopped and while the blaster moved to catch up with the defender the troller was left in back momentarily. Well I took my chance I hit bu/as and took him down to 1 hp he tried to run but to late my followup had allready hit he was dead. As the defender and blaster were turning around I flew up and was hidden. For all they knew I had never been there. The only thing that let them know It wasnt a metor falling from space was the two precision blade cuts in there dead friend, and me wispering..."Payback is a [censored]" in there ears....
  10. I think iv seen this before, I just wanted to make sure I got it in.... /SIGN love the idea and i think we all need to make sure the devs see this.... something for them to start toying around with and mabye we can see something like it in I13 or something.... cause it seems to take them that long to put anything in play (look at wings)
