  1. Cardiff_Giant, I think you are on to something here. What if these new multi-team zone-wide events are an attempt to woo players from 'other' games where this sort of thing is commonplace? If so, I personaly think it will be a failure. Especially since, as others have said, this is a niche game, and many of those players would not do well in COH.

I also believe that someone has looked at the Rikti and Zombie events and tried to "make them better". The problem is that those events are better because they are scalable to the zone population at the given time they are on.

IMHO, good quality content and stable playability will win the day, not any "Oooo...look, we have a nicer shiny than that game over there." attitude. (Unfortunately, there will always have to be some of the latter to deal with a segment of the general gamer playerbase.)

There's no reason for that kind of behavior in this, or any other, game.

Wonder what you'd do if some idiot got on his high horse about your choice of activities during an event.
Uh, it wasn't like he just did it once in Broadcast, he was doing it repeatedly. Other's were trying to get teams together and co-ordinate actions, and he was doing this, cloging up the Broadcast channel.

    Also, how is it cowadice?

And as to my choice of activites during an event, if I don't want to do them I sure won't berate others who are trying to do them, or decide to insist that others do other things.

So, from reading all the responses, it seems as if the devs have not learned a thing from the disaster that was the Hallowe'en banner event. For me, it was really annoying to have to see a banner event pop up, and absolutlely no-one bothering to do the event. (Heck, I even took one player to task in AP for broadcasting that he was forming a sewer team during the event - yes, hi, that was me.)

It seems that the devs are trying to hold onto players that have been around for awhile with high-end events such as this, but it does nothing for newer players who may not have a legion of 50's to fall back on. (Or someone like me who is a casual player and has alt-itis, and thus only has one 50.) Quite frankly, if I were a new player enticed to this game by a RL friend, who was constantly going on about how great the Winter Event was last year and I ended up continuously faceplanting in this event? I'd probably be tempted to rip out the game, and tell him in no uncertain terms to never ever invite me to another MMO ever again.

I have no idea what the reason is that we all of a sudden have these massive high-health, high-defensive uber-enemies, but it will seriously detract from the fun of playing in the event.

Or to put it another way, what with crabby relitives, pushy salespeople and downright rude fellow shoppers - not to mention maybe having to deal with a Mr. or Ms. "Everything must be perfect for the holidays or they are ruined." - the holidays are stressful enough. There is no need to put in something this deadly to cause even more stress to players. (And yes, there are times where I just want to destress by coming in here and whaling away on things. Having them whale away on me time after time is very annoying in the extreme.)

Please, consider the tweeks and changes very carefully.

Quite right. I should ask my RL friend if there's anything in CO that makes his wife, who's still playing COH, ask him, "Didn't we see that in City months ago?"
  5. For those wondering about the female braids causing the blad spot, here's how I dealt with it. I went in and made sure cranium sliders were as follows:

-left-hand (width): no higher than 45-50%
-middle (height): no higher than 25% - or even less!
-right hand (depth): no higher than 45-50%

Now of course these are only approximations. As you can see, the one you really have to worry about is the middle slider. The other two are mere suggestions, as I found that there was only a slight balding at the temples when I set the width slider to maximum.

And really, if this is the only problem this booster pack has, then that's really good.

    Oh and BTW, Sapphire7, decaff.
  6. Oh, and one last thing, there are now so many travel options for Teen, I've had to completely rearange my trays - I'm now up to 5.

And what's worse? I logged on with one of my lowest toons tonight, and ended up having to bring out tray 4 for her travel powers
  7. Okay, I bought the booster, and just gotta say:

"I am so sorry for everything I said during the Hallowe'en event!"

This is great! Just Ninja Run and Ninja Leap alone are great. About the only quibble I have so far is that when you use the new female braid hairstyle you have to reduce your toon's cranium height slider (the middle one) to minimum, or it looks like she has male-pattern baldness.

Other then that, this is a total win of a booster. My 50 was reaching just over 50 mph with Sprint and Ninja Run together. And yeah, I did the pushups with her in the D, and had a guy do the same and try to position his (male) toon over her. I just told him "Sorry, you're late there, I already heard that someone did this over in AP."

Oh, and Dispari, I love the screen caps you posted. My first response seeing the first pic was "CANNONBALL!"
  8. To your last point I offer a counterpoint. I was on a GM team in Talos and Bricks on Saturday, teaming up with another team to hunt for Eochai to eventually find Jack. After something like 15 spawns of Eochai in Talos, we went over to Bricks thinking there was a better chance of Jack over there. Well over a dozen Eochai later, we eventually wittled down to where we could combine into one team. By the time 4:30 AM rolled around, I had to beg off and log.

We got a lot of comments in Broadcast along the lines you say, that if it wasn't Jack then they wern't interested. And as to others getting there to "...steal of of their cookies.", considering that you need 20 Unseelie for the Ghosttouched badge and there are usulally less then a dozen (if that) handing around the big guy at any one instance, I can see where someone who "Just needs one last one for the badge" swooping in to take it. But then, I've always looked down on that.

If it wern't for the fact that you need jack for that one badge, you woulnd't see half as much of those comments as you see now.

And yes, not everyone can have every badge on every toon. However, as I said, I want to try and get Fashionable for the 12 of them because it fits with the SG they're in. Also, it's the fact that it seems that these badges are much more tougher to get in this event then any of the other events. Case in point, I have every non-timetrial badge for the Winter Event, and it was all done with all 12 just in the last year of the event. Here, it's one hell of a slog to get even half the goodies.

(Not to mention that I have resigned myself to the fact that I only have one toon with all 6 banner badges, and I don't think I'll be able to get the last 2 on a second toon.)
  9. And it's been announced that the event is being extended 24 hours because of all the issues today.

    [/e sarcasm]
    Whoop-dee-doo.

I now have the Fashionable badge on 6 of my Infinity toons, but know that unless the devs change things for team costume drops, there's no bloody way my 2 defenders on that server will get it.

But after what happened tonight, I'm thinking of doing a 24-hour boycott. On two different toons, I knocked on one of the doors near the IP entrance in KR, with both times getting a single crone. Both time, I fly back to the far corner of the entrance behind the police drones - and both times she stops behind the street sign there, just out of range of the police drone.

    When I get a 3- or 4-1 trick/treat ratio, and there's a only a 1-in-3 chance per treat of a costume, I'm a little put off.

I can understandthat they want to give us a chance to get the Hallowe'en salvage, while at the same time make it a challenge soas to disuade any farmers looking to get them to sell off for profit later. However, I have one villain that I was able to amass five full sets before she got the final costume badge.

Sorry, but I fully believe that there should be, if not an appology, at the very least an explination for this event. I've been online with this game since just after the 2nd anniversary, and this is the one special event that I have had the least fun with.

Well, I just DL'd the rollback, had it verified, as still couldn't get in.

What with the general Hallowe'en Event issues, the Deadly Apocolypse issues, the map stability issues, and now this, it is all becoming a very big black eye for Paragon Studios right about now.
  11. Well, just taking a look at my spreadsheet, I count 6 of my toons (3 of them on Infinity) who have gotten all five of the base Hallowe'en badges, but only the 'Clothes Horse' badge for costumes.

BTW, Steng arn't part of the base five badge counts, so why are they part of the ToT spawns? They might not be the most annoying of all the event spawn, but with near-perfect hit-ratios and large DoT, they are near the top of the list.
  12. I agree, the boss spawns are annoying to the extreme. I've been trying to get the 'Fashonable' badge today, and after over an hour of knocking on doors and flying back to the police drone, I've gotten only 3 costumes, and a 'trick'/'treat' ratio no better than 3-1. I decided to log off when I saw the zombie event start and noone was broadcasting looking for a team.

And now we have this emergency server maintenance to deal with a map issue. This means that I'll have at best 5 hours - barring mapservers, DC's and having to reboot my system because of V-Mem loss - to get a total of nearly 100 costumes across 7 toons.

If I had 5 days (I don't play 24/7) I might be able to get them. And as to the idea of teaming up with otherss, the problem with only the person clicking on the door getting the treat is why I really can't do so.
  13. Well, for the banner event and it's badges, for certain. I'm not that bummed out about the zombie badges, as there's always a chance of getting into one of those events throughout the year.

What I'm really bummed about is just how fricken' long it takes to get the costume badges. I'm trying to get at least 'Fashionable' (25 costumes) for each of my 12 alts on Infinity, who are all in a sorority SG that I created. I've only gotten 5 of the 12 so far, with 1 sitting at 12, and the other 6 still at 10 - and I think it was over two hours with each of three of them Monday night - and that was with me knocking on doors and dragging the baddies back to any police drones to deal with them. (Sorry, but I don't feel like amassing lots of debt for nothing.)
  14. The answer should be on Paragonwiki, but the page isn't really that helpful. They even have a full section with a list of keybinds for team leaders to set up in order to coordinate teams - which seems worse than useless.

And once again, I was counting as I clicked on doors, and after 30+ I only found 2 'treat' doors. (I'm in Steel, trying to get the Clotheshorse badge for all 12 of my sorority sister alts - yes, they're in a sorority SG - so I'm doing a lot of running back to the AP entrance to have the police drones deal with the bosses and LTs.)

And yet again, I have a serious issue with the Hallowe'en werewolves, they are just too fricken fast. My toon has a flight speed of just over 44 mph, and the werewolves were able to keep up with her. That is just plain wrong.
  15. I completely agree with you Ms. Mesmer. The other mistake they made was that the power of the banners and minions/LTs was not scaled to any zone. In every zone, the minions are 295/100 (health/endurance) and the LTs are 585/140. This was true in Talos, in Skyway, in Steel, and in Atlas Park. Then, each banner is aprox. 43,750, which means that it will take a lot of work to bring just one down - and this is while the creatures are still spawning.

The other problem I realized tonight speaks to your notion that this mission can not be compared to the other event missions, in that this is a specific mission that spawns at select intervals for a select amount of time. Whereas the Winterlord, Baby New Year, and Snaptooth missions - and the initial missions that help with Coldblooded and Weed Wacker - can for the most part be done at any time during the event by any size/level team, or even solo. (Well, okay, maybe just the BNY and Snappy ones, but you get my drift.)

As it stands now, I have only one toon with all six badges for the event, with one at three and another at two. It'll be an effort to see those two toons getting all six badges by next Wednesday.
  16. Except that I've seen players during both the Winter and Valentine's Day events staying on and helping other players right up until the last day of the event. (In fact, I've done so myself the past two years in both events, kinda paying it forward from the help I recieved the year before.) That being said, even with the event having been scheduled to end tomorrow, there has still been a very large drop-off much earlier then normal.

Look, on one server (Infinity) I have 12 alts, all of whom have all the non-time-trial badges from the Winter event, and almost all the badges from the Valentine's Day event. (I still need to get Weed Whacker on 10, and Coldblooded on 9.) Yet I still need to get the supernatural event badges on my one toon there that has everything else so far. Why was I able to do so during the other events, but not so on this event? What is so different here?

As to levels, yes I can how more higher-level characters being used to test these events can skew the results. Yet, it seems like the levels of the monsters are higher from 'trick' doors then would be if you were on a mission at the same level. Perhaps as you said, it should be scaled more appropriately to the level of the toon.

And I believe the whole "Risk is applied to the whole team but reward is applied only to a few." has been a problem for a while now. The fact that the event is tooled to be zone-level specific is probably the only thing that keeps low level toons from faceplanting as they run into a high-level mob in AP or Galaxy left behind by a high-level toon looking for treats as they knock on door after door after door.

It's just that this looks to me as yet again, the devs coming up with a great idea, but not thinking through the implimentation 100%.

Yes, you did it on a 48, and I bet it was in PI. That's the problem, for a lowbie toon, it ends up being a lot of faceplanting and general frustration. Even if they've been sk'd up to 49 in a team, they still only have a select number of powers, and many of them still have the END drain problem associated with the low levels.

I'll reiterate what I'be been saying all event long - the devs are deluding themselves if they think that there will be tons of teams doing this all at the same time in the same zone. As has been pointed out in other threads, we don't have the population that we did years ago, when there were tons of teams doing stuff like this.

We only have this event on until the 10th - although it was supposed to have been over today - and I'm sure there are plenty of players who have not been able to get this event done. There are players, I'm sure, who would like to have already gotten this done, but real life got in the way.

(I was on a team Firday night with a RL friend when one of the other team members asked why it was so quiet in the event. My friend rightly pointed out that they were "Probably doing Hallowe'en parties IRL." Of course, I had to shake my head when this person then asked "What's IRL?")

Not to mention that it seems that things have been turned 180' from last year's event. The 'trick' count is a lot higher than the 'treat' count - I've seen as much as 20-1 in a few cases - which causes it to be the case that a player will have all five of the enemy badges, yet still has to work on the costume badges. (In once case, I have a toon with all five, but still only 6 costumes total, so not even the Clotheshorse badge.) Then there's the case of trying to rectify the issue over the Ghosts from last year, which means that this year it is the first one you end up getting - but it seems that in order to do that they've slighted Zombies, as they have always been the last of the five badges that I have gotten on a toon.

Then there is the problem with the deadliness of the monsters this year, to the point that I was seeing a LOT more purples while on teams then I can ever recall in years past.

In short, I understand why certain things were done. However, the problems that they were meant to address probably were not, and in the end it only upset those it was not meant to.

Oh, tell me about it. Tonight I went into PI - which seems to be the only zone that this is always successful from what I've heard - and proceeded to help my team with taking down the first banner. Yet when I was almost at the second banner - almost hidden in an allyway BTW - I DC'd. By the time I was able to log back in (Game lagging, shutting down, clicking on the updater & wait while it does it's check of everything, etc.) the event was over.

    Trust me, I was pissed!

Then I was in another event in Steel, but it seemed like my team, at less than full strength, was the only one doing anything. (Or as I told me team, "Seems to be a lot of people here with their thumbs up their butts and their brains in neutral.")

But I came up with another idea tonight. What about if during one of these major events, the devs actually shut down AE for the duration. That's right, make those 'AE babies' actually do something.
  19. Ultimo, the biggest problem with the new event, as far as I can tell, is that the devs were hoping to see tons of players on dozens of teams all working together to take down the banners - just like it was in the old days.

Devs, it is no longer the 'old days'. We do not have the player base we had 3-4 years ago, when we could see plenty of that base on at roughly the same time. We no longer have plenty of players who willingly pile on to an event at the drop of a hat.

One thing that Ultimo pointed out rings true, that spawning the event in too many zones at the same time can only be detrimental to the enjoyment of said event. (And yes, I knoticed this even before the patch to increase the spawn rate.)

I was in Mercy Island for about two hours this morning. The team I was on broke up just as the banner event started. I asked the level 45 toon if he was going to be forming a team, to which he replied that he was just going to chill and hang with his friend. (I could only see the three of us at the time.) Then about an hour later, the zombie event started up, and there was no call-out in the broadcast channel of a zombie team forming, let along call-outs to join teams.

Not to say that it doesn't ever happen. I was online Saturday night with one toon, and got all the zombie and banner event badges within about 40 minutes. However, this happened blueside.

Maybe with Going Rouge we'll see a meaningful uptick, but I'm not going to hold my breath. Yes, the new graphics engine will be a plus, but if all former players (some of whom are now over at "That other superhero MMO") hear is how poor things are now, do you really think that will make any difference.
  20. I was talking with a teammate last night after the 'supernatural activity' ended in Steele. She was mentioning that she couldn't solo ToT anymore, even with a blaster, like she could last year. I've noticed that the number of reds and oranges - seperately and in two's and three's - are more common than yellows and whites. (Not to mention that when there is an orange, sometimes they will be solo, but more often than not they will have a yellow along with them.)

Another member of our team mentioned that he felt the devs were probably hoping to entice all these new players out of AE for this event. Unfortunately, I don't think that's happening. There have already been two times where I've seen either this or the zombie event start up, and I see no 'team forming' messages in the broadcast channel.

Getting back to the upped toughness of the ToT enemies, I have a question. Was this done in order to hopefully curtail the number of farmers who would be fighting these enemy in hopes of getting the costume pieces for sale at a later date in the auction house for a profit? If so, I don't see it working.

(Sorry, but I've said it many times before, while the methods you've implimented to try and curtail the farmers/RMT'ers are commendable, in the end they will not work. Since those these are aimed at will just shrug their shoulders and find other ways of doing what they want to do, and it will be the general playerbase - who were just going about their normal business - who will have to bare the burden of this.)

Now, with this all said, I am enjoying the event.
  21. Would it be possible to post to a seperate page - or a downloadable PDF - with a visual step-by-step of how to create the needed conections and shortcuts in order to access the Training Room? I could probably follow the written steps easily enough, but a visual of each section would probably be much better for many people. (And to be honest, I'd feel a lot better with such an aide myself.)

I for one would have loved to bet one of more of my padding toons - still have plenty from the great SG/VG pad-a-thon of nearly two years ago - over onto Test a while ago, but am hesitent to do anything that could cause me problems with the main game.
  22. Well, I was just on with a small team, and it was fun. I also stopped by the auctin house and saw that the costume pieces have already crashed - from 100-400K down to about 50-55K.
  23. Aside from the occasional rubberbanding, the only issue I had during the weekend was when it appearde that I had gotten stuck in one of those steel cages in the PCU control room on Cap - after much trieal and error, I was able to jump sidewaise out of it.

Because it was Canadian Thanksgiving weekend, I wasn't able to be on as much as I wanted to. Also, I was pretty much locked out all Thursday and part of Friday because of the Rogers Online Protection suite causing issues - I just have to turn the firewall off when I want to play now.

And yes, there were times when I logged on and saw both Freedom and Virtue at yellow. But I know that we have lost some players, quite a few of those to the new shiny toy under the tree. My RL friend is one of them, even though he has admitted that I won't like it - seeing as an altaholic like myself will have problems with them having only 8 slots period.
  24. I had the same problem with Rogers Online Protection - possibly ZoneAlarm, which was disabled in the last update, causing issues with it - and found that the 'solution' was to disable the firewall in ROP while playing the game.

I know this is not a permanent solution, and am still trying to figure out how to correct this to my satisfaction.
  25. Yep, that's what I've had to do for now. And the even sadder thing is that I went into the ZoneAlarm folder in Programs...and there's NO uninstall icon.
