For those who are new to this concept, FArt Battle is short for Fan-Art Battle and is an art contest held for several years now on the City of Heroes boards.
The contest is held by a willing host and contains traditional and digital art, lineart, coloured, black and white, greyscaled, it's all valid art in this battle.

Every month will have winners, picked by the public of the forums in an assigned thread on the ALL ACCESS part of the City of Heroes forums.
And there are some awesome monthly prizes to win and the winner of the final round will win a head/bust drawing (like on conventions) by David Nakayama of a CoH based character of the winner's choice!

Each months will have it's own City of Heroes/Villains related theme for the artists to base their art on.
This theme will be announced by the host in a new thread.

VIP players as well as Free players are allowed to participate in this battle.
All entries of the month of both FREE and VIP players will be put up in the vote thread by the host.

To be able to get more votes when the time is there, the voting thread will be put up in the ALL ACCESS part of the forums.

I have started a simular thread on the ALL ACCESS part of the forums so this battle is easier to follow for the free-players too.
Free players can now also join this battle by submitting their pieces in the ALL ACCESS FArt Battle 2012 - {month} thread.

In the voting thread that follows I will put every submission from both VIP and ALL ACCESS.

Starting February, all will be updated and placed in the ALL ACCESS part of the forums.

You should find yourself an online server to upload your image to (Deviant Art for example, or tinypic or photobucket, whatever you wish). After uploading it there you can use the link to that image to paste it in a thread like this one. Just be sure to add the code around your link to make the image show.
For example:

The winner of the FArt Battle of 2012 will receive a drawing of a City of Heroes related character of choice by David Nakayama!

He has agreed to a head/bust drawing like what he does on conventions.

To proof I do take feedback seriously ... I worked with the mentions of the boys's lips having too much colour contrast, odd thing is... they look just fine on my screen... and even better on my laptop *giggles*...but here goes... This is better...yes? (I'll put in the previous version for comparison)?

About the Merlin piece... I'm not 100% pleased with the lips either and consider that a learning point
The same goes for Arthur's chainmail. I rushed through that, I have to admit.
As for the eyes... Merlin is not supposed to look at Arthur.
In the episode something made a sound coming from the direction both guys are looking at.
And I'm not sure if you've seen Merlin *giggles* but he actually has goofy looking eyes!

As for DeeDee *giggles*, know you are also now feedbacking Christopher Robin right? *giggles again*.
Personally I love the eyes standing out instead of blurred.
I'm a sucker for detail *shrugs* can't help it.
But I see where you're going with the teeth and I'll take it into consideration

Ooh there are so many suitable artists around!

Try and put up some references (and maybe bio's) of your characters.
There's an art request thread, you may get lucky for some free art there. Also there have been posted lot's of already created art already.

And to have a look at more awesome CoH related art stuff...be sure to check out the Deviant Art City of Heroes group. There is LOADS of art te be checked out...and if you see something you like...contact the artist .

Now...going back to the "excellent" looking nose *giggles*... I just finished the surroundings aswell. Now...it's just half of a painting I'm working on, so I won't be posting this on DA just yet..but I wanted to show you the practice piece of the 'style' I'm trying to add to Xllusya's drawing aswell.. though I expect Xllushya's drawing to be a little less realistic..but we'll see .

Sofar I have been producing paintings which, in my opinion, could use a bit more contrast in their colours and shades. And I'm eager to learn how to paint them instead of using the contrast and brightness and hue tool. That's why the practice .



You may think...gah... another Merlin Fan-Art piece? Yeah..well... if it helps keeping the practice piece interesting. And when something I work on is interesting enough... it helps keeping the concentration on a high level which then helps the speed of finishing a piece! All win!
