Hmm... *wonders who is going to take care of their 'underground' site queue >.>*
:P
[/ QUOTE ]
I'd LOVE to, but there's no telling who or what was happening there. -
With the goal of this thread being to 'make right' where people have had commissions go bad, please make sure information is limited to bad commissions. I'd like to ensure this doesn't become chaotic.
That being said, I'm having a hard time deciding whom to render (though I'm starting to narrow it down a bit). -
I'll officially volunteer too. I may not be as fast as Juggertha, but something is better than nothing.
-
[ QUOTE ]
Wow... all I did was do up a pic guys...
[/ QUOTE ]
Man, Juggy just raised the bar. Looks like I gotta step in and pick up one of Gill's commissions too... -

Just a quick question...why is BaB wearing a cape?
And why does he look different in almost every incarnation?
[/ QUOTE ]
The added armor and cape was a request from NCSoft to show some of the Roman-themed options in Issue 12. -

DJ,
The gloves are awesome. Did you model them? In what program?
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah, I had to model the gloves from scratch. I use MAYA. -
[ QUOTE ]
... not being all that gung-ho about the iconic characters and even wondering if that was GW because of the different costume...
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually, the version you see wasn't the original. This is what my first pass looked like, with the more classic costumes;
MIDNIGHT HOUR - Early rough version (classic Ghost Widow) -
[ QUOTE ]
...I thought BaBs looked a little too light-skinned as well to the point that, at first, I didn't realize it was him. He looks great, though, and I love the sneer.
[/ QUOTE ]
Well, at this point I'm writing it off to differing monitor gammas - on my system, he looks good. I used a stock texture and face morph to create his appearance, so any insinuation that I consciously lightened his skin is just silly. -
[ QUOTE ]
It's a great piece, but is there a reason you decided to lower BaB's melanin count and bleach his hair?
[/ QUOTE ]
Not particularly. Does he look too light skinned? Is the lighting making him seem pale? It looks fine to me. -
Now that the latest Fanzine is out, I can finally show some closeups of the piece. It's all Poser and post-work.
MIDNIGHT HOUR - Poster
MIDNIGHT HOUR - Detail shot (Ghost Widow)
MIDNIGHT HOUR - Detail shot (Back Alley Brawler) -
Gotta get a Lego Light-speed made up some day.
-
PM it to me as well. If I get time this weekend, I'd like to take a stab at it.
And yes, I use sharpies (/smirks at Rowr), but get an ink-pen look. -

/Battlewraith
Anyone know if Kodiakx is still playing? I checked his deviant page but it doesn't look like he's logged in for several weeks.
[/ QUOTE ]
As a side note, what does the "/Battlewraith" mean? I've seen it several times and don't have a reference for it. -
[ QUOTE ]
...but I paid for my images not Rowr and I have no reason to want to see things I purchased in the Scoop...
[/ QUOTE ]
Interesting perspective. I have the opposite view on this; if I'd paid for something, I'd want as many people to see it as possible. It's intriguing that you prefer to keep it more private.
Not bad at all, mind you... just different from what I'd expect. -
Cool project!
(...although I admit I wish Light-speed were in there somewhere...) -
I reviewed the piece you sent and replied with some suggestions. Feel free to ignore as you please =)
-
I can help ya. I do a lot of postwork on my renders. Got a piece in particular you're looking to touch up?
-

Damn...
and only 37? Anyone know what happened?
[/ QUOTE ]
Cancer. He's been battling it since 2000. -

DJ... when it comes to pinup... Vargas was the master...
[/ QUOTE ]
Vargas is possibly the cleanest, but I think I prefer the playfulness of Elvgren. Sorayama has certainly had an influence on me as well. -
I just found out as well, from J. Scott Campbell's DA site.
He was only 37. -
[ QUOTE ]
DJ... Most of the folks I named off I've commissioned, OR they're a very specific style, namely, pinup art...
[/ QUOTE ]
Just giving you a hard time. =)
However, I'm a HUGE fan on pin-up art (Vargas and Elvgren ftw) and I've done some pin-ups with 3D. I've actually been working on a full Playboy spread of my main, Light-Speed, for her 'coming of age' party. I'll post it once I feel it's ready. I just need to get Invincibelle to call me... (snicker)...
As far as commissions go, I *do* accept one or two per month, but I won't take more than one at a time so I can be sure to deliver in a timely fashion. -
[ QUOTE ]
That's the trick, innit? There's so many.
Has anyone heard from Poison lately? Is he still doing art as rpvisions.com? Cos he's freakin' amazing too.
Then there's:
russ platt,
john becaro,
gammaknight,
dualmask,
ebony-chan,
deviant graphics,
guildhelper,
bobby aquitania,
scott blair,
daggerpoint,
bakanekonei,
pixeltease does amazing colors...
you might get some yummy sequentials or covers/pinups from Martheus Wade or Janet Wade (co-creators of the Jetta comics)...
photomanipulators like Rocinate...
and of course, our very own Brandon McKinney!!
[/ QUOTE ]
What the...?
I didn't make the list?
No love for the Darkjedi... ;p -
I feel for Gil. I don't know what's caused him to go silent - personal issues, burnout, company mis-management - but it's rough to see such a fantastic artist generate dissatisfaction from his loyal fanbase.
As an fellow artist, I know it's hard to turn away the offer of cash for art, especially when it's your main source of income. I know I don't take as many commissions as I could, but I want to be certain I can deliver in a timely manner. As a result, I try to only have 1 or 2 on my plate at a time. I've been envious of Juggertha's, Graver's, and Gil's ability to list long lines of people clamoring for their work, but I can also see how that level of committment can leave an artist overwhelmed.
Gil, I hope you can pull things together and come back in force. -

Mind you, those EULA's are pretty much bunk in a court...
[/ QUOTE ]
While a EULA isn't legally binding, it DOES give you a sense for what the company might perceive as an infraction, and when they might take action (even if that action is only to remove your name, or suspend your account).
My advice; don't bother re-creating the character in-game. It's not worth the (potential) problems. -
[ QUOTE ]
Ok so I have an OC that I would like to make into a hero. But my question is this: If I make the character into a hero, does that make NCsoft own the character? Will i be punished if some day along the line I publish something based on the character? This is all hypothetical, but I was just wondering. I hope this isnt a stupid question xD.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm not sure what an 'OC' is, but I presume from your question that you're talking about taking a character from outside the game and re-creating them in COH. I checked the EULA, and it seems that you'd be able to as long as your published character doesn't resemble the in-game textures. Also, if your character gets published and someone recognizes/reports you, you're likely to get their name removed in-game. This is what the EULA has to say;
"...(b) Rights in Content. The Customer acknowledges that the Publisher and its related providers of Game Content (Game Content Providers) have rights in their respective Game Content under copyright and other applicable laws, and that he accepts full responsibility and liability for his use of any Game Content in violation of any such rights. The Publisher and its related Game Content Providers grant to Customers the right to use the Game Content for non-commercial, personal purposes, including in connection with creating non-commercial fan fiction or fan web sites regarding the same. However, the Customer acknowledges and agrees that he shall not reproduce, prepare derivative works based upon, distribute, publicly perform, or transmit any Game Content for commercial uses without first obtaining the express written consent of the Publisher.
For clarification purposes only, derivative works based upon Game Content are works which are substantially similar, both in ideas and expression, to the Game Content. Similarity of ideas in the Game Content and derivative works concern similarities between things such as plot, theme, mood, setting, appearance, and character traits. Similarity of expression concerns the total concept and feel of the Game Content and the derivative works. Thus, if a work created by a Customer or someone other than the Publisher (or its related Game Content Providers) is likely to bring to mind the Game Content, then it is likely that such work is a derivative work of the Game Content, and as such may not be used for commercial purposes..."
