And whoever mentioned burger joints in the East Bay and left out Nations is going to hell for the unforgivable sin of not mentioning one of the best local chains (also does a good breakfast).
Now I'm hungry.

I think that might have been me. And I disagree that I'm going to hell for the unforgiveable sin of not mentioning one of the best local chains.
No sir! I am in fact going to hell for the unforgiveable sin of not mentioning a place where one can go for burgers and PIE!!! Getyerfacts straight!!!

both? doesn't that risk causing a rift in spacetime or something? -

This is a serious issue to some maybe not all, but you should see that it matters a great deal to a few of us and at least respect that. He is a developer he needs to hold himself to a different standard than us.

So, we're back to square one I guess... red names post and they get slammed for their lack of information, content, whatnot... or they don't post and they get slammed for their silence. Again, expectations beyond common sense.
The expectations being laid at the feet of an employee that simply doesn't fit the position required for an appropriate response to this issue are simply silly. I wholeheartedly encourage those that wish to, to contact customer service or approach other facets of NCSoft to get their views aired to the appropriate audience.
However, if anyone has issues with where and how a redname posts in the Justice forum (need I point out the general tone this forum usually has?) then your best bet is to send that concern directly to BaBs or a moderator. In my opinion, all that would do is further drive away any developer traffic in this forum. One look at the reactions here and, as a developer, I'm suddenly not so surprised at the pervading silence that's hanging over the forums.

What an epic thread... what satisfies me most though is the fact that most of us are engaging in a serious discussion about the actions of NCSoft in the last 12 months; and when a red name finally comes in and makes a comment, it's not to address any of the real issues that we have with their decisions. It's a poor attempt at humor that has relatively nothing to do with the majority of the thread.
Thanks for not listening BaBz.... I guess some things never change.

For what it's worth, Iggy does have a point. I may not agree with how he presents it, but it's valid nonetheless.

Really? Guess I'm still not seeing it. All I see is an expectation that is beyond the realm of common sense. -

BaBs is an artist... you really think of all the Paragon employees he'd be the one to comment on the original topic of the thread with anything important? And additionally, if an official response WAS forthcoming, you expect it to happen in a Justice forum thread?
I'm a developer... if I go to a forum for a game I've worked on and talk about company policies I am at best, talking about stuff that is way outside my job description and none of my business, and at worst, risking my job by talking about such things. Even if said forum is full of the best and greatest people on the planet, I've got no business doing that sort of thing. And they've got no business expecting me to. -
[ QUOTE ]
I get that and like I said, without commenting on the bonifides of such action, the way it was announced was my focus.
[/ QUOTE ]
Even in those cases, I think their communication could be better. They often ask for feedback and then provide no follow up. They ask people to evaluate things, and then simply upload a change with little final explanation or reasoning. There are more than a couple recent examples of things being pointed out in closed beta that go completely ignored... with little to no response during beta.
But even in those examples, an apology isn't what I would want to see. It serves little purpose. I'd like to see processes change. I'd like to see testing become more structured. I'd like to see future communications where we currently don't get them, and better communications where we currently get bad ones. Do better at what they're trying to do... that's better than an apology in the long run.
And yes, I realize your blog lists that as something that should happen... I just don't see the need to dwell on an apology at this point when that alone won't achieve much... assuming inappropriately banned people were properly "apologized" to already. In general, a general apology won't bring back those that have left... the devs changing how they do things might. -
[ QUOTE ]
Dark, to me the first and biggest step is communication. While I may or may not agree with the dom changes or pet +rech nerfs, I would actually hold those examples up to be the ideal way for the staff to handle such situations.
Feel free to look at my suggestions at http://cohmapunishment.blogspot.com/...-analysis.html

It's not the manner of the Dominator or pet recharge changes that bother me. It's that they need be done at all. I'm tired of rehashing, and that's what my Dominator reference was for... not for how they "handled" them. -
[ QUOTE ]
Given the trend to pessimism that I've been seeing, I'd bet that they won't take that leap.
As always I'd love to lose that bet.
Edit: By the way, I took a quick glance at your blog that someone linked & it looked interesting. I plan to take a closer look at it when I have more time to give it the attention it looks like it deserves.
Oh... and in reference to your post below, I'd love for you to win that bet too!
[/ QUOTE ]
I would agree with Red for the most part. But there's a an unfortunate trend going on here that I find really disturbing. The reduction in communication is only a piece of it. There has been, from my viewpoint, a series of missteps by the devs over many of the last issues. The misunderstanding of Merits replacing vs. supplementing recipes drops on TFs... the gutting of PvP... the rather crude handling of the base salvage... the marring of the Architect release with negative dev postings followed by badly blundered customer service management followed by even more badly blundered forum management.
I'm a fairly easy going person... but the last 6-9 months of this game have seen a lot of negativity and/or badly handled changes, depending on how you want to look at things. Nothing has yet pushed me toward the door, but for the first time in a long while, I've noticed there IS a door, as lots of people are using it. Maybe it's just a streak of bad luck for the dev team, but they haven't really done much to counter that trend.
I'm getting weary of seeing yet more tinkering with existing aspects of the game. *eyes the impending Dominator changes* Can we not move forward here? If there are more developers, can we not get more new content than a couple of new TFs in a 6 month period? Can we not expand the powerset (or, dare I say it, AT) options instead of endlessly tweaking the [censored] out of things that have been in the game for years? The Architect was a great milestone (despite the fact that I don't use it) and I'm glad to see it in the game. I am equally saddened that it's been marred by such horrible handling on both the player and developer side of the fence. There are lots of things I'd personally like to see done for the game. An apology from the dev team on anything in the past isn't one of them. For me, their "apology" lies in their future actions, and I dearly hope to see forward traction in this game rather than continued monkeywrenching of things that seems to becoming the norm. -

No offense, but it was not a very good idea starting this thread. Are you going to go in-game and poll all the people that don't go to the forums?
There are alot of awesome player's on Justice. Some who are well named and there are a few that sit back quietly and help, but never get the credit. You are doing nothing but stirring the pot for flamewars and back-biting. A popularity contest on Justice is not needed.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm curious how this got interpreted as a popularity contest. When I read the original post, it looked like someone was asking us to point out who we thought were good players, regardless of whether they are outgoing or quiet. Is there some award if somone gets mentioned by more than one person? I've yet to see any flaming or back-biting. I don't see any posts of "Player X is more better than Player Y because he does A, B & C for the community". The people in-game that don't read the forums won't see the results/posts of this thread regardless, so are we expected to feel sorry for their perceived slight in choosing not to participate? <shrug>
You are right that there are a lot of awesome people on Justice. Pointing those people out, or the reasons why you feel inclined to point them out, isn't a popularity contest. We aren't electing anybody to anything... well, unless Talia starts handing out titles again.
There are way too many to list for me... people in my SG, people in some of the chat channels I'm in, and the sadly not insignificant number of people that originally got me into the game but no longer play, including co-workers from a company I no longer work at. These people know who they are because I generally point it out to them individually, and really, that's more important than pointing them out in a forum thread. Tell someone how they, individually, impacted you and you'll usually get a much better response.
This does however give me an idea for a thread... hmmm.... -
