........And the entirety of everything in the RP forum never gets even a hundredth of the attention this one thread gets. Great.

Not quite accurate... my thread in the RP forum gets quite a bit, but you gotta admit, Steelclaw has the talent to warrant the attention.

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, if there was any doubt that the MA missions grant XP, lay the doubt to rest. It got Positron aka Mr "All that crap cons grey to me" off that dais in Steel Canyon.

A neat story, but a bit marred by a couple of things.
1) Formatting (sorry, the editor in me here) - additional line breaks/spacing when you switch locations keeps it from all running into each other.
2) RP vs Non-RP descriptions - You've got Karzahni's powers down rather well, but the others need a little bit of work to not sound like you're just referencing the Tier powers.
3) Your ending - had you left out the scene of the PLer, I would have been a lot happier. That broke the mood of the story for me, which was a shame because your ENDING ending was good.
I did like your descriptions at the beginning with the Clockwork, especially after they tried to lift Krekka and he inadvertently smashed one of them flat and the others assumed he was attacking. A very nice touch.

I suspect the developers are very busy preparing I14, the next booster pack and future content, and I don't expect things to be fixed overnight. But I'm talking about major, universal, problems that cropped up before the winter event and I guess I'm kind of stunned at the lack of notice or mention of them. Moreso when I look at the content of this patch.

Quick responses to general tone of many posts in this thread
[snip]
Finally, we are in a particularly chaotic point in update schedule. We're beginning the transition between I13 on live and I14 (which used to be part of I13) on it's way to beta testing--always a troublesome time in the update process. We're also working ahead on things for post I14 launch (booster packs, anniversary event, etc)...as well as Issues 15 and 16. Many things going into I14 can't go into I13 without horrible consequences. Likewise with I15 and I16. So, we're currently dealing with more future builds than we ever have and more open branches as well. Trust me, it's just as frustrating for us as it is for you guys. But we'll get through it and things will smooth out. Absolute worst case scenario is by the time Issue 14 goes live...at that point one of the builds/branches we're juggling (I13) is closed for good. Pretty hopeful that things will smooth out long befor then though.

Wow, nice base!
I wonder if I can get in there to film... I'll really have to go back and check out some of the other featured bases, these would make GREAT set pieces!

Hey, thanks. I appreciate the compliment. If you want to get a tour or do your filming, let me know. The global is @Dr. Feedback.

I meant the Infinity Legion's base. I could easily see doing some filming in there.

Might try StoneFalcon's website and see if they're there... don't know, though, since these are official CoX videos.

Hey Ex Libris, any chance you guys can save these and put them in the ftp.coh.com folder where all the other videos are?

Holy crap! You guys are a tough audience.
Everyone's a critic. If I'd been the one who made that video, I'd certainly never step foot in these forums. You're all being unnecessarily harsh.
[snip]
You're full of it. Don't like hearing me say that? Make a better video and PROVE ME WRONG.
[/ QUOTE ]
I wouldn't go so far as to say mine are "better" (what IS "better" anyway? write on one side of the page only), but I've done a couple of CoX videos (not including the ones YouTube's pulled down). Does then entitle me to criticize?
With all due respect, please remember two very important things:
1) EVERYONE is entitled to his or her opinion, regardless of talent, output, etc (or lack thereof)
2) Having said opinion does NOT automatically entitle you to being taken seriously
Also, based on your arguments, I might feel perfectly justified in telling you that were you to watch MY videos and not like them for whatever reason (and there are people who don't), YOUR opinion would be considered invalid unless you made a video yourself.
(If you have made one, incidentally, please don't forget to post its link in the Fan Videos thread in the Multi-Media section of the forums.)
Your notion of what an 'ideal' CoX ad may clash wildly with the notions of others. I think there's more than enough room for advertising this game to accommodate everyone. Look at the new Mac ads that StoneFalcon created, for example! Fourth wall? What fourth wall? Oh you mean that pile of rubble at our feet...

HeroCon = Bay Area meet & greet with the developers of City of Heroes. Several discussion/Q&A panels about the game, a Live Mission event where folks went running all over the Hyatt and scaring the daylights out of the nice little old ladies who were there for the quilting convention, a big banquet thing, and general chaos, mayhem, and fun.
For HeroCon 2008, I was there as a presenter on how to make videos in CoX. (No, I'm not a developer, nor do I even play one on TV - I'm just a rabid fan who routinely drives the rednames absolutely stark raving insane with questions.)
Given what you pulled off for these, not to mention your vids are official (while mine are not), I think if you were to present on making videos at HeroCon 2009, you'd pull in a REALLY good-sized crowd. Hell, I'd be one of the folks sitting front and center at your presentation going, "How'd you do that?!"

Seriously Devs you guys gotta put these up on TV and Radio. We'd help pay if you needed it, IMO it would generate a lot of business. DOOO EEETTTT!!!!!
[/ QUOTE ]
While they could be the start of real ads...they don't explain what the game is at all. Don't get me wrong, they're funny, they're well done. But it's mostly in-jokes...we recognize the emotes, the costumes, things like day jobs and sidekicking. It works for people who already know the game, might be useful for resparking some interest for those who left the game.
Could they be the core of ads? Definitely. Say, cut them to 20 seconds, then 10 seconds of real ads. And have them describe the real features...Sidekicking lets you team with people who haven't been a hero as long as you, my DayJob gives me bonuses when I'm fighting crime. (A shoe salesman is definitely well-heeled, after all.)
Again, I love these videos. I'm enjoying them very much. But if I showed them to someone who knows nothing about City of Heroes, he's going to go "what"?
[/ QUOTE ]
If you were going to script an ad, then, how would you do it? (Figure the same 30-second constraint, including enough time for the logo and website obligatory shots.) I'm genuinely curious how you'd do the video, since I remember how frustrating it is for me to stay in that 30-45 second constraint while trying to make sure I included everything.
For that matter, NCNC, what might be the odds of using the two winning commercials (heroside/villainside) from the PERC contest? Those were 45 seconds each, and while they don't focus on the Mac side of the game, Leandro and Ravenlore both did great jobs in promoting the game.
I am all for gettings ads for CoH on the air somehow. Granted, affording air time during the Super Bowl might be a bit much, but still...

Ok, I gotta ask. Who does the voices on these? More so, who's doing them?
Are these a Dev thing? Or is it some awesome player?
[/ QUOTE ]
It's a player - Stone Falcon has done all three of these.
And to answer someone else's question - the voice of the 'hero' is the same guy who voiced Captain Omegabot in Stone Falcon's video "The Revenge of Dr. Mechanico." No idea who voices the villain.
As for how the video was made - Leandro's Splasher program to make the background white, demoediting to make the characters move, and I gather frame-by-frame animation to animate the mouths and eyes.
How do I know all this? Stone Falcon emailed me.
