Quote:Well, let's see. First the earth cooled. And them the dinosaurs came, but they got too big and fat, so they all died and they turned into oil. And then the Arabs came and they bought Mercedes Benzes. And Prince Charles started wearing all of Lady Di's clothes. I couldn't believe it.Well, where do you think the oil came from in the first place?

Remember that it's just a game, and the purpose is to have FUN. However, the corollary to that is that people's ideas of fun may vary.

Thank you guys, for not only helping "Avatar: CoH Style!" to score its aforementioned honors on YouTube...
... but its latest one, achieved today: "#47 - Most Discussed (This Week) - Film & Animation". The video has also been publicly Tweeted by @TheGuild, commented on by Felicia Day and one of the members of The Guild's Management, and is still going strong.
And oh yeah, Castle and Niviene like it.
How on earth am I ever going to top this...?

Yes, Energy/Negative Energy attacks work too (Scirocco's set does Energy damage).
Also, unexpected perk - Oil Slick can be targeted by Darkest Night AND by Twilight Grasp.(Hubby was quite surprised to realize he was healing people off my Oil Slick.)

And for Masterminds, your Commando can set it on fire.
However, the Scirocco set for MMs works BEAUTIFULLY with Oil Slick, as all of the patron powers for MMs in that set do energy damage...

Quote:Errrrr... let me know how that works out.Ah, well that's okay. Petitions are actually rather boring. I prefer my own secret methods of getting things done.
(Blows dust off of old wooden box, opens lid, extracts waxy NCsoft figure along with pins and candle.)
Quote:I already liked Felicia Day from Dr. Horrible, but then I discovered The Guild, and I enjoy her even more. Their/her being okay with you using the song for your video and promoting it like that makes me like them/her even more.

CoH Forums population: This is quite irregular, Mr. Marketing Representative! We were assured that we'd be getting information from the developers about GOING ROGUE!
Marketing Representative: They're all in meetings.
CoH Forums population: What kind of meetings?
Marketing Representative: I'm not allowed to give you marketing information.
CoH Forums population: But you're the Marketing Representative.
Marketing Representative: And what kind of Marketing Representative would I be if I let people like me know things that I'm not supposed to know? I mean, I know what I know because I have to know it, and if I don't have to know it, I don't tell me, and I don't let anyone else tell me, either. Now look, you've asked most of the developers. Why don't you speak to Mod_8? Maybe he knows something about GOING ROGUE.
CoH Forums population: Under the terms of use for the forums, Mod_8 is not allowed to give us any marketing information without Marketing's approval.
Marketing Representative: So you'll ask via PM. And I can give you reasonable assurances that the Marketing Representative will not ban you for doing so.
CoH Forums population: Because you won't tell yourself about it.
Marketing Representative: I try never to get involved in my own job. Too much trouble.
CoH Forums population: This is a very strange policy you have here, Mr. Marketing Representative.
Marketing Representative: Thank you.

I am apparently in the minority that would rather the devs actually ENJOY their probably-far-too-brief holiday break so that when they REALLY get cracking on GOING ROGUE, they are not one step away from a complete mental breakdown. They'll announce it when they announce it.
Get honked off when Q1 is OVER and we still don't have word on GR.

Quote:Neat! I will have to check out that site, thank you! As for the CoH Community pitching in, that's highly doubtful. A handful of players have stepped up in the past to try and help, but actively fundraising on here? Not allowed, to the best of my knowledge. You may want to consider Kickstarter.com if you need a "nominal" amount of money to pay for a license to use a song. If it's amount of perhaps up to the low 4-digits, the COH community might be able to help you swing it. Of course, the project and the expense themselves would need to be significant/worthy enough to persuade people to pitch in.
Quote:Well since this video is linked to from Felicia's Facebook page as a recommended link I'm guessing its a success
Quote:Thanks for the new video! /e applause
It was exceptionally well done. I admit this is the first time I've watched one of your videos, but after seeing this one I had to go back through a few of the more recent CoH ones and they were all examples of great, professional quality work.
I feel I can state with high confidence that NCsoft HR is clueless. They should hire you, and if they have any qualms about your performance they should hire you on per project or year-length basis.
It's a no-brainer. Honestly!
Where do we sign the petition?
Second: Thank you for the compliments, and I'm glad you like my stuff!
Third: There is no petition. Seriously. That's not just a "First rule of Fight Club" thing, there really is no petition. Nor can there be one because petitions aren't allowed.
At this point, there's nothing the playerbase can do, apart from enjoy my videos and maybe use them to spread the word about our game and get more folks into it.

Quote:If you know anyone who's hiring, I'll be happy to give it a try. My current roster of "applied and told no" (or in some instances, outright ignored) MMORPG companies - Carbine Studios, Paragon Studios, Trion World Network, Sparkplay Media, Gazillion, Arena, NCsoft Austin, Linden Lab, and about a half dozen others that I can't remember offhand coz I just woke up.Another great video, very nicely done. Someone needs to hire you asap, even if NCSoft can't/won't.
Quote:There could be a very good reason for that - "The Howling" was written specifically for the official trailer of The Chronicles of Spellborn MMORPG. It is probable that Within Temptation's management are contractually obligated by Acclaim to not license the song for use with another MMORPG/videogame in any capacity (promotional or otherwise).
It's a fantastic song, though - I can see why you'd want to use it.

Quote:No, but it might be fun to demoedit a massive crowd of people in Atlas Park or Pocket D or something doing /em clap, /em cheer, /em victory, etc.Watched it...Loved it...
but then I got to see snippets of it while still in production.
Eat your hearts out people...with the exception of maybe the Husband I usually get sneak previews.
I actually LOL'd, inorite, the domestic Partner, ahem Fiance` looked at me like I was on something while I played it.
Is there a standing O emote?
As far as sneak previews go, yes, there are about seven CoH players here in Phoenix who I hang out with on a regular basis who get 'behind the scenes' glimpses of the Ko's madness at work. I think almost all of them are on these forums.
Glad I was able to make your SO give you weird looks (do I need to bribe her with chocolate again?).
Still amazes me that people are actually laughing aloud as they watch this - I know *I* laughed, but I laugh at a lot of things.

Oh, I am QUITE familiar with Nightwish, not so with Epica, but will give them a look. Of course, the b**** is still finding a group that's willing to let me use the song for free (or as close to it as I can get), because, well... it's just me. *shrugs*
(And yes, I own "Wishmaster", and yes, I get the references. I is TSR D&D geek.)
I'd also love to get a few select voice actors I know (I've long since mentally cast certain characters in this game, including Hero 1) to do this.

Quote:To be honest, and this is not false modesty here, I really had no earthly idea that this video would be as popular as it is, and that so many folks would enjoy it and get laughs and stuff. I truly didn't.Would you quit being so awesome? So much concentrated epic win in one place is gonna cause a singularity!
And sorry, I can't afford to quit being awesome, assuming I ever was. I need all the concentrated epic win I can manage to find me a job.

Thank you, thank you.
The jealousy thing? Seemed like the thing to do. Hot young psychic superheroine in thigh boots and a schoolgirl outfit... yeah, she'd turn a few heads, even in a city where hot superpowered ladies are the norm. (Although in 'actuality,' Blake knows better than to go after guys who are taken - she'll smile and flirt, but not seriously pursue.)
*****
And again, cheers to all of you who have been linking my vid on your SG forums, blogs, Facebooks pages, and all that - the video has been getting some serious attention!
(Now I just have to hope that someone who'd want to hire an MMORPG videographer notices the thing...)

Quote:I try, on every video I do, to learn to do something new, or to improve how I do things. That was a judicious mix of PhotoShopping and greenscreen editing.I was coming in to crow about this part:
But you've seen it. I can't imagine how far over the moon I'd be if Someone Important complimented my work. But you, you certainly deserve the recognition.
Like everyone else, I enjoyed all of the little touches you put into this (and all of your videos). From something of a technical standpoint, I'm a bit wowed at the Choose an Archetype frame. You did some fantastic work on that piece that was on screen for just a few seconds. I can't say thanks for sharing quite enough.I figure that even if it's there for only a bit, I want to try and do it well. Which is why I cringe at certain of my past vids where I see mistakes or things I could improve.
But I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Quote:RE: the red carpet walk, that was another last-minute, "as long as I'm on this map," what-the-hell idea. And yes, being unemployed means I have a LOT of time on my hands. How often do you ACTUALLY Laugh Out Loud when using LOL?
I burst out laughing when I read this - my co-workers wanted to know why - I could only say "inside joke" as none of them play CoH (their loss!).
D_R this is simply spectacular - the mind boggles at the amount of time and effort that must have gone into this.
I picked out a strange moment as my favorite shot - probably unique in this, but I really dug the "red carpet" walk at 2:53 with the limo in the background. You have a wonderful imagination, and WAAAAY too much time on your hands!
Please keep up the incredible "work" - it's very much appreciated.
Edit to add: This YouTube comment made me chuckle, too:

Quote:Let's put it this way - if I contacted them with money in hand (and a significant amount of it), they might say yes. Maybe. Maaaaaaybe.*Hunts up Youtube copy*
Awww, dang. Yeah, that is spot on. I can see the saucer showing up, initial assault with civilians in the streets, bombing runs, Alpha-Omega in the instrumental, looking over the wreckage of the city (Boomtown), the "Surviving Eight", Statesman holding Hero-1's cape, starting rebuilding, and maybe a close-up "Honoree" stepping out of another portal in the last seconds - just from listening to it.
They wouldn't even consider it for a price?
And I have that whole song storyboarded for the video.
Quote:i think you should donate these vids to paragon studios and let them i dunno... like do whatever they do to make them look like a movie*ish and then they should put them all over the web...
Brag about how awesome the fans for this game are etc...
Viral!
As far as bragging how awesome the fans for this game are, they've acknowledged that - not me specifically, but Brian Clayton and EMpulse at HeroCon have freely admitted that the CoX community is awesome.
