I've been having a bug lately that caused my game client to freeze and crash when I opened my contacts tab on certain characters.
Usually this'd cause my screen to turn black and the prompt would appear telling me that the program isn't responding, then windows (using vista 64) would inform me that 'Display driver amdkmdap has stopped working and has recovered' (or something similar to that wording).
I'm running an ATi radeon hd 5700 (so my device manager tells me) and was using the 10.12 drivers when the bug first occured. I rolled back to 10.9 as someone in this very forum had suggested to another poster having similar issues, but that hasn't solved my issue.
I've done some looking into the technical forums for similar issues and saw something that just sparked an idea. Someone mentioned somewhere that I can't seem to be able to relocate now about background or secondary 3D or something (I really forgot the term used), such as contacts in the contact window.
Now, with that, I reasoned maybe it's one of the redside contacts causing a problem, since the crashing's only been happening on my redside characters. I've played a few heroes in the same time period as this bug's been affecting me and only the redsiders have been experiencing the crash.
My first thought was maybe it's the TV, because it uses a non-humanoid model. I logged on a character who didn't finish TV's missions, opened the contact window and had the crash, as expected. Logged back on (had to mash the m key to get the game to open the map screen, closing the left-open contact window, as I'd left both attached to the nav bar) and went on to finish the TV missions this character had left. After having no more missions from TV, I tried once again to open the contact window and there was no crash.
Thinking I might have been on to something, I logged on another villain who had TV missions left and tried the contact window again and crashed. Same error. Logged back on and I'm now going to run this character through the missions for a confirm that the bug is caused by what I suspect.
Will report back when I'm done. If anyone has extra info on this, let me know. So far, from what I can tell, the display driver just dies when TV gets in the contact window (but not in the dialogue window).
