Quote:Sorry I was asleep for your walls of text rebuttles.
I don't know how many bad pvpers are on Virtue now, I haven't PvPed there since i11 but if they make you think you can just lay traps and "let them kill themselves", well I guess I don't need to argue with you.
You go ahead playing a bad non MM trapper and Ill go ahead and keep laughing. Hope to catch a webnade soon...
A good excuse... if server transfers weren't free atm. Don't be afraid to learn _Lith_
... and don't let the smoove taste fool you. -
Quote:The same time people start avoiding you due to your trapping skills, is also around the time teammates start seeing what advatages they have by hanging near you and/or coming to you when being chased by opponenets. I took recall to make up for the fact that I don't always go "offense" while zoning with my teammates, I'd recall them when in the orange or red or after Hibernating etc... and it would help to pull people into my traps while saving them. I recently respecc'ed out of it to get a spider and some more HP... cause after a while teammates just kinda knew there was little need to hop skip and jump all over a zone. They'll come... they always come.I don't actually remember the last time I saw anyone die to a Trapper. Mostly they just stand there and whine because everyone is smart enough to simply avoid them because they're a non-threat otherwise.
I speak no defender in particular... or better yet perhaps I speak of one I haven't rolled yet I suppose, since the idea of a good one seems crazy here. I was gonna wait to roll a CotM (Concept)Traps/DP defender later that I'm sure I could make work somehow... thinking something along the lines of seekers + chem ammo, -DMG specialist for teams or something.
Nah I'm speaking mostly on Traps in PvP in general. My text comes from PvP experiece with a /traps corr named Venenix for the last 2 years at home on Virtue although I vacationed on Freedum several times. (More noise than good PvP IMO) I've rolled a few Traps/ defenders... enough to notice better debuffs and key powers offered sooner than later... I just haven't leveled or specc'ed one out for PvP.
Hey. I'm just saying Traps is a more than viable set for SC. It doesn't play like all the others, but is very capable of getting killls when played right solo despite what many people believe, and as already agreed upon... capable of contributing to team PvP. It isn't easy to be great with, but it doesn't take a seasoned PvP'r to get good with.
If any of you seasoned PvPers get tired of the same ol' approach with every toon, or if any new PvPer wants to roll something without breaking out the cookie cutter and still have a blast in PvP... I highly reccomend a Traps toon. You can be successful, get kills, get laughed at, save lives, bruise egos, strike absolute fear in the minds of melee players, get smarter, and blow people up all at the same time. -
Quote:Not true... so far it's worked for me well over thousand times! Against good and bad builds, smart and dumb players, single and multiple opponents. Hell I've killed 4 -5 peeps at once before! (I admit the group of melee'ers couldn't of been that smart) Still I don't see many toons out there killing multiple people at one time. At best it's pew pew kill hib run pew pew run pew pew kill hib run pew pew pew run pew kill... It gets old and theres more out there capable of the same results... even for beginners. This will work once, maybe twice. Once it becomes known what you are doing, it will only work against very bad players.
I actually have seen a Traps Def in Freedom Sirens Call lately. He's not a bad PvPer and his build is alright I guess, but I haven't died to him once on any of my villians. His damage is pretty LOL and the only thing he has that concerns me at all the the webnades, and only then because I know a Blaster will be breathing down my neck in a few seconds if I don't kill the fool
I really just can't see anything that Traps could bring to a Defender that TA can't do better.
TA offers many of the same debuffs as Traps but none of the buffs (mez resist and +regen) It's a disruption and a mobility set, while Traps is a... well trapping set and/or turtling set. Traps also offers more so than any other set for defenders and Corrs and MMs, the abilty to eat lunch and/or multi-task while actively engaging in PvP.
Quote:Which is why you will only get kills against very stupid people, or people that aren't paying attention.
It doesn't take much to learn what it takes to get someone to try an kill you once. Getting someone to try and kill you often isn't much harder though, not with all the lol egos out there. -
Quote:That only works on those that for some reason think it's better to make one stack of all their traps. Please disregard them, they know no better.I love traps users. I love flinging blinding powder at them and seeing their traps go off on them. XD
Just make the lines touch people.
You'd catch me with a single mine maybe, but never standing on my own Posion traps or multiple mines. -
Quote:Don't be afriad to learn _Lith_Well since you can't read and assumed I said Traps/ Defender and not traps toon, I can see where the problem started. Irl used a traps corr. I didn't say anything about a defender, nice job.
I've only seen traps viable in team pvp and the arena. You can't force someone to stay in your traps zone in zone pvp, even with tpfoe. The removal of -maxrunspeed hurts trops and if you can get someone to stay next to poison gas trap or seeker drones or trip mines after the no phase second ends after a tp, then hats off to you for fighting an idiot.
And lol stalker protection from traps, there are more drive by thunderstrikes and impale spamming than AS's going off.
Bottom line is Im not going to stand in your bad traps field, if Im on any toon Ill kite it if you wont move. Or just use the range provided in almost every toon to almost completely negate it.
Oh and I rolled defenders to do damage. When combined with debuffs to the opponent, they used to be able to do solid damage, atleast for a non damage primary class.
And just to be a bigger *** hole, defenders never had nor will ever have /Traps. GG
I didn't come to make you angry.
The purpose of the Traps set is to trap people... not to get kills, but to get others to kill themselves. For that reason, standing in the open where some can kite you would be a silly idea when solo. (standing in the open at half heath long enough for someone to see you before hopping back to your "nest" of traps that isn't in the open is less silly believe it or not) It isn't true that you can't force people into your traps. If you take away certain options, you leave your opponent no choice.
Here's an example. You lay a row (not a stack) of 5 trip mines between a building and an elevated curb. Place posion mines at the start of the row. Go out an aggro somebody, just enough to let them know you're easy money. Web them and retreat, and tp them at the start of the row before the posion mines. The regen stops, only way to go is down a row of hopefully well-slotted trip mines (-res proc and dmg procs are beastly with them). By the time the bombs go off the vomitting starts, seekers hit, another set of seekers stacks, acid has kicked in... all while you've been attacking freely since tping them.
If you were to replace that location with another there are 100 others just like that in any given zone. All thats needed is an area with limited access to/from once webbed. The smaller the better, the larger the funnier. Besides that its just about surviving the pull.
Caltrops aren't need for slows... they're needed to keep people from SS stealthing your mines. Theres a special emote called /LOL that people can do while standing on your mines with SS/stealth if you don't have caltrops on them at some point. Making sure they're webbed before getting to you helps as much though.
Most stalkers won't stay around to finish a job solo once webbed and hit with acid trap's longish DoT. In SC without sharks and AS as viable options against opponents with usually better than average regen and defense, I don't see them being impaled to death... just saying Traps/ is not a bad bet.
The funny thing is no one really has to stand in a traps field. The smartest and dumbest players alike all try to kill the squishies... Hell people act like npcs more than npcs do some time. "Uh He went under that bridge so I can't kite him now... what do I do?? I know I'll go under the bridge to get him cause his attack were like lol and I took half his heath... ah ****!" Tp Bombing is still a tatctic of course but isn't required to get kills. I'd reccommend to learn to get kills without TP foe before trying to learn how to use it in the current system.
I guess the approach is far from the norm so less often seen as a reason. -
Quote:I didn't know defenders had /Traps in I12.Because Defender Dmg is for the most part lol. That combined with a primary that almost adds nothing to help you in PvP, it makes for a pretty awful toon.
Last time I saw someone not just be completely awful on a traps toon was back in i12 I think with irl. And he still wasn't going around taking the zone apart, more or less just not dying a whole lot.
A well built /Traps toon is more than viable in PvP.... especially in SC. I just haven't rolled a defender version, but knowing that the debuffs from one would be stronger than my Corr is enough to let me know a /Traps defender could cause a lot of hurt for a team of villians. (Main reason I mentioned defender version was for the obvious stalker protection it would provide in SC)
Also defenders are support... who rolls a defender for damage? Nevermind silly question. -
Quote:Well title pretty much says it all. im looking for a build, doesn't bother me on the AT, just no trollers. If someone could help me out that wuld be very much appreciated!
BTW keep in mind that its for SC PvP
With the bounty system the way it is in SC, I had a blast with a /Traps toon. I barely had to move... the zone just kept sending folks my way to die. It was funny.
I'm actually suprised more peeps haven't rolled /Traps defenders for PvP. -
You could stack Fly Mag by stacking Group Fly from 5 or 6 peeps, but the -acc debuff would stack as well. I'd be willing to bet the debuff gets DR'ed though.
-
Quote:The only problem with this I see is that if we were offered a way to reduce -fly effects... then we'd have to have a way to increase -fly mag. Both parties would likely build to max these and maximum -fly mag would likely be higher than the max -fly reduction so... we'd bascally be where we are now.I know -Fly isn't a mez, but it does effect your status. It puts a "-fly" status on you. And I would prefer the ability to reduce the -fly effect over having to take a completely different travel power, simply to offset it. There's only 4 power pool choices, after all.
It does kinda suck that at least two travels are required out of four... but taking only fly is no different than taking only SJ or only SS or only telport. It severely reduces your moblity... which in PvP is like a third powerset. -
Quote:-Fly isn't a mez. It doesn't affect your status. It doesn't affect anything... unless you happen to be flying. Here's my last grip and then I'm done.
Break Free does not remove the effect of -fly (or even -jump), but it will counteract the other mez effects.
I'd be glad to partake in a system where I can reduce the -fly effect by some means.
You don't have to reduce the -fly effect. You HAVE to have another form of travel to counter the -fly effect. simply put. -
Quote:Couple things...
...
...Why does there need to be an all or nothing "-fly" component in powers such as air superiority and web grenade? It seems weird that you can attempt to resist holds, immobilization, and so on, but a "-fly" webnade will bring you down no matter what.
Why not remove the "-fly" component and let the mez effects cover it all? Hover has been upgraded in the last few issues to protect fliers against mez effects, but it should never be all or nothing.
I'd like to see more aerial battles; too often, it comes down the guy, with his raptor pack, throwing a web grenade. The damage from the fall basically does it from there.
First, if you don't have a way to ground people yourself, you should probably not be flying. Aerial PvP is a form of mitigation. If you're letting people get close enough to web you... you're not flying fast enough or paying enough attention to the wide open skies around you.
Second, if you're gonna PvP on a flying toon, take hover to counter anything except web grenades and net arrows... and consider taking teleport to complement it so that when you are webnaded you can teleport away before ever hitting the ground (note: you'll have to keep TP'ing until you find a good spot to fall or the -fly effect wears off.) -
There are different ways of doing the same thing. Min/Maxing or optimizing for 10-20 min matches may lead some to a very narrow choice of options considering power pools and power picks for no reason it seems. When you consider that in arena you get a shiny scoreboard saying "Im a Winner," and in Zone yo attain lolReP... it really boils down to drops/rewards, ya know for min/maxing purposes. Zone has both players and npcs to get drops from, and I don't have go anywhere or set up anything so it wins. YMMV
If one happens to get past the emotions of it all, then it becomes a matter of getting the most good drops as possible while zoning no? and when that mighty DPS is evaded by most decent players by Hib, Phase, lol TPing to a rooftop to laugh at you hop and waste buffs, (sorry I know I'm biased at this point heh) running to and hiding in base, or simply calling four of their friends to put you on the defensive...most log, ask for duel or arena match, some rage etc... nevermind I guess.
Perhaps months from now when folks maybe decide it's ok to bring AoE attack powers back into zone builds I'll believe it's all be done. Teleport spiking + Nukes + Heat Loss and all during an Assemble the Team promt 8 sec delay = oh so That's how you get more drops?! AoEs... who'd a thunk it. If there are threads talking about 5 versus 15 odds and which AoE CC + Attack combos are the best to wipe out the most the fastest I must of missed them. Wormhole/Blizzard/Blizzard/Glue Arrow/Rain of Arrows Perhaps? probably not. I'm not a numbers guy though. I'm sure it's just like PvE where its efficient to pew pew one target at a time... wait. The good news is that AoE CC/Distruption has ben discovered after a year of being a joke... and magically without any significant changes to the game, wow.
Quote:2. To save you the waisted time on trying it yourself when their is probably a less than 5% chance you will find something they havent that makes the build a new FotM.
This is the part where I go all the way back to the beginning and requote my self stating that listing and/or simply discussing the greatest streghths, weaknesses and synergies of a set can often be more edcuational than telling someone to reroll their level 50, and use something like AR/Ice as an example... That friend, would bring my role in this thread full circle. lol
Quote:If someone wants advice on his/her AR/Ice blaster... they should be told and/or coached on the sets greatest streghths and weaknesses IMO. That's probably what they want. For example... the fact that AR/ is the only set that leaves no trail so it it makes for a terrific range boosted/snipe/scourge/spike/kite/stealth teams... -
Difficult to do when people lie on you. Especially when thy are very skilled at it. My apologies for the quotes... I figured it's better than using my own words... Most by default would believe Mac when accuses me of:Quote:backing someone who claims an flying TPing AR/Dev Blaster can be competitive (and then saying "oh but I don't actually play one of those").Quote:1 TP'er in an arena match with the rest including teammates having ss/sj is quite silly. I wish you'd think bigger than that. 8 TP/flyers vs 8 SS/SJ'ers... given even skill SS/SJ would get out maneuvered all day long.
Lastly. I don't arena much so it's almost pointless to make references to what I say and how it applies itself in the little controlled box you call PvP.Quote:EDIT: Oh and lol @ thinking an 8-man fly/TP team will win an arena match against an 8-man SS/SJ team. Sure they might be outmaneuvered,
My other and overall point however... was again the same as yours CryoTech... which is that is that the attitude here in the PvP forums is too cliquish (*close minded* hurt too many feelings) atm to offer respect to those with a different view. If you consider that and the fact that people got so mad with me about stuff that's actually agreed on... you can see why this thread has been so fun for me.
I can only imagine two things I am supposed to believe if I am indeed wrong: Either they want me to believe that there are simply no new ideas in PvP atm... (even though the one's that know it all are also often the ones that express how un-fun PvP is atm) or they want me to accept that only certain people are allowed to introduce them here on the boards.
I entered a joke thread and I happened to call out the PvP Forum crew... label them... generalize them as all the same... and put them in a class of "bad" to watch them rage. Why? I enjoy PvP for one... and second, because education happens when you create an envirioment to learn... not when you simply expect people to listen. (think about it)
I'm still waiting on valid questions to be answered. -
Quote:That's not fair or accurate. As far as I can tell, this thread has been Dahjee coming in and saying "PvP is bad because you are all closed-minded, and you should all play this way,"
Quote:For the most part what you just said in that post is true about how Dahjee has been acting in this thread,
I actually said very early in my posts:Quote:Don't take it personal Con.
I offer you much respect... as I do anyone else here.Quote:Mac you're 5 star in my book. Made a note months ago when on Freedom, so no you weren't hidden from me. I've never dissed your PvP skills. Also I'd never ever treat a player differently In-Game because of differences of opinons here. In-Game is a different slate... and again I have no problem with how and what you play. We just disagree a lot here. Perhaps I expect too much from the people that seem to know and frequent the PvP forums the most.Quote:I've PvP'ed with just about all of you. I've checked the forums before logging in for just about as long as I've been registered. I can learn from and respect anyone here, and I have been doing so for some time. That's just me. I've learned from much of what I read here, and I can in fact appreciate the work of those you mention (including yourself) have put into reaching out and posting to those wanting to improve their skills in PvP. Please don't get that twisted. -
-
Quote:Dahjee what are your toon names? I'm wondering if I've ever seen you in the zones.
Oh well in the last year, I'd probably be best known for
Miconscience, Grav/Psi Dom... extreme range build. If I had a dime for every toon that respecc'ed into lol web genade or left zone in rage to get a loljetpack when playing this toon... I'd be filthy rich atm.
Krakel, DB/SR Brute... aim for 65-75% def in PvE.... you'll find the PvP defense you've been missing for a long time on a lot of builds. I'm not a numbers guy. I just know it sits at 42% to melee and like 31% to ranged def after DR. (not counting elude) I hope to acheive more soon. Yes... it does enough damage to get lots of kills. Mace AoE Web grenade is his bestest buddeh.
Fatal Overload (virtue) Final Overload, (freedom) Elec/Elec Brute... blaster-proof and built as a very effective sapper.
Venenix, Rad/Traps Corr... my lazy day lol toon because players act like npcs more that people like to admit. It doesn't keep up with the team no... it sets up very effective ambushes and recalls teammates when they hit orange/red... This is the toon that put El Childo in a dumster repeatedly til he left the zone (no moar runnin for joo!)... the first day I came to lolfreedum. It's also the toon that introduced and taught many how to pwn SS/SJ'ers by luring them into wading pools and webbing them after.
[EDIT: You brought it up earlier so to let you know... 5 trip mines are only enough to kill a poorly built squishy. 8 you're good for most non melee. 12 or more for melee toons... and less for all if you slot the {chance for -res} PvP proc in there. lol doing that my friend = for enough LOL moments to justify the fact you don't have to hop all over zone like a robot. Oh and controling p. power phase to make sure 2,3,4,5,6, people end up standing on top of you multiplies the LOL. It offers a break from the norm which is sorry to say... fun for me.]
Psy-Bo, FF/Psy Defender... the only blueside toon I play with atm. Full support and fully invested. Some folks see a useless combo. I look at it as a set that turns most elec/therms and stalkers in to LOL. It dies alot... but his teammates rarely do. It bubbles/invis'es everything it can target including nearby npcs just to make arena zoners cry moar about npcs lol. (not really)
Many more rolled up... several from back in the day. -
Perhaps next time you should comment on my actual posts... instead of what others have turned them into...
It started with a snarky remark by me:Quote:Quite ironic at this point. wouldn't you say?Bitter justifications for the staleness that is forum PvP to follow I'm sure. Blame it on the numbers?
Then SuperMax started it off with:Quote:If someone wants advice on making his AR/ice blaster good in PvP, he'll be told to reroll. Because no matter what he does, that toon will suck at PvP. That's not mis-education. That's telling the truth. If he doesn't like it, that's just too bad.Quote:I know how to make things work. but in all honest if someone comes along looking for advice along the lines of 'how do i make my ar/dev a killing machine' the real answer is reroll as psi or fire/em.Quote:If someone wants advice on his/her AR/Ice blaster... they should be told and/or coached on the sets greatest streghths and weaknesses IMO. That's probably what they want. For example... the fact that AR/ is the only set that leaves no trails so it it makes for a terrific Range boosted snipe/scourge spike/kite/stealth teams... with teleport/hover (/shock) But cooridinated teleport/spiking in PvP is unheard of you say? Ya, I know.Quote:Again with all due respect, if someone asks a question that you can't answer... just say you don't know. "ya know... I just don't know how to make AR/Dev into a killing machine". "I don't know what travel powers pool powers an AR/Dev should take or what strategeis they should implore to be a killing machine in PvP... It may or may not be possible... I just don't know"
It's that easy. "Reroll as a X" is what you reply to the question "What should I reroll my X as"?
You can even tell how your Psy/Em gets 200 more kills a day more than your AR/Dev does based on the way you play it, and that your AR/Dev wouldn't survive if you played it the same way... but don't assume to know what's possible for all... I'm pretty sure that's when learning stops, and you don't wanna stop learning if your supposed to know it all ya know.Quote:Yes, I PvPd a bit on a flying AR/Dev before I13. No, I wouldn't touch that with a 10-foot pole in this current version of PvP.Quote:Dahjee I have no clue who you are but if you don't already pvp on Freedom I would like to personally invite you to nightly kickballs. I personally think we need more flying AR/devices blasters in kickball.Quote:meh KB. Each one feels the same, looks the same. Nothing new there atm. Call me when you do have more flying/teleporting* AR/Dev Blasters... or perhaps teams that would know wtf to do with a good one on their team. That kinda stuff might actually interest me.
So no. I don't PvP with flying AR/Blasters. I could... but I just don't. A summary of your fail. I fit it all one one page for you.
What's funnier s how I repeatedly make mention of the fact that I take no interest in arena these days so my references should not argued from such a perspective... yet the best arguement against many of the things I suggest are about how something isn't possible in the arena? I'm sure now the new one will be Zone PvP getting downgraded to completely skilless now lol. That reminds me.
If I had a dime for every time someone told me killing them wasn't a sign of skill cause it didn't happen in arena.
X I think you're better off with the really short posts... less room for error and all. -

get a point.
EDIT:Kinda funny how your "fix" failed to change the part about you having littlte to no understanding of the posts you seem to be so humored by. -
You underdstood all of about 2% of this thread, but I agree. It did deliver the lol.
oh and you forgot the rest of the quote:

Quote:I don't play against the toon I play against the player ConFlict.
Tell me what you know about me from my post if you want to play this game.
I know that you must have the last word or you'll continue to rage and step outside your normal self.
I know you and many seek to be the first to answer questions when, if you really wanted to help new players... you'd wait a while to get the opinions of those not as knowledgable as you as they try to help as well. That way you may learn something new and... if needed you get to educate and improve more peoples' PvP skills though these forums. ( then again you are PAID to spam on the boards so perhaps you're just min/maxing your earning potential... good for you! )
I know that your next helpful post to a newb will consider the things pointed out in this thread cause ya know... I know you probably don't want thought of as a bitter close minded PvP know-it-all.
I know you'll be ready to disagree with me the next time come here to defend or suggest something other than the arena-approved style of play... regardless of whether you really know for sure. Ya know... just because I'm Rahji.
Quote:Go through and read your post in this thread and see what a massive pile of fail you are. Well played good sir, well played indeed.
Whatever though. You can haz ur forum back nao. I'm home. Perhaps I'll leave you a couple more months to discover more breakthoughs in viabilty for yourselves. GG
PS. I don't PvP with flying AR/Dev Blasters... Just thought I'd put that out there for some. If you feel this is a contradiction of sorts... please reread and gather ref. -
LOL
Sometimes! But not atm.
On my way home... I'll return you to your regularly scheduled PvP forum as soon as I can log into the game at home... This has indeed been fun.
Common Ground is difficult. Even when those who supposedly know the most are unhappy with the state of PvP and/or are simply waiting for the devs to make it better.
