Quote:With all due respect, since this is your thread....how are you capable of proving "intent?"I would say that they can. Griefing is all about attitude and intent. Griefing is "things done with intent to cause other players grief". The current rating/search system does not provide good tools for players who have different interests; you can sort of cover this a bit by using informal tags (such as SFMA), but the net result is that people are trying to wreck the scores of other peoples' arcs, not because they think the arc is bad writing, but because they don't want other people to be able to play the game differently.
The answer is...you can't. You have no idea why someone ranked something 1-star UNLESS THEY TELL YOU. Now in that case, they can use the comment form and TELL you why and in those situations, its NOT an anonymous system...you get their global ID. That happened here already and people quickly came online, started recommeding that that player be petitioned for griefing. They created a posse for them for having the audacity of ranking an arc with 1-star (their right) and giving their reason (their right).
How is using the system as intended griefing? Its not. It hurt someones feelings and they now want to string up anyone else that ranks an arc poorly as "proof of intent to grief." It could be the gospel truth....they took the arc, did play it and ranked it that way. They took the arc, read the mission briefing and decided "This is stupid, I don't want to play this" and ranked it purely on the mission briefing. They could have even mis-clicked the rating they intended for all you know. The reality is you can't prove intent. You can guess, but that's all you can do.
Be careful when you attempt to pass judgement on the intent of others. That's a very, very slippery slope. Unless you are a mind-reader, you don't have a clue why they did it. But merely doing it isn't griefing. That's how the system currently works.
If I wanted to play the "whats your intent" game here, I'd say that your intent with this thread, like so many others, is to make a case that the playstyle rights and preferences of AE authors are somehow superior to those of other players, worthy of needing protected class status. I'm sure that's NOT what you are saying, but that could easily be the interpreted "intent" of your message. -
Hey would you mind stopping with the harassment please? I don't appreciate it.
As for the subject of this thread, its pretty clear:
Quote:Its clear the OP wants to nuke people from playing AE if they don't like the XP given by a particular arc and rate it 1-star accordingly.I can accept AE farming as a concept. Heck, I made a farm arc because I wanted to drive down the price of alchemical silver. But...
Can we get some dev care and concern for the problem of people 1-starring story arcs because they don't give amazing XP?
This is not a one-time thing. This is not a couple of times thing. This is a serious and recurring problem.
I would like to propose:
1. Any one-star ratings that show any signs of being thus motivated can be appealed and will be removed.
2. Remove the ability to rate arcs from players who do that. Possibly nuke their AE privs.
To which you replied out of thin air:

You really do believe that 1-star opinions constitute griefing. Good thing we have devs with brains and not you in charge. -
^^ Since when does a 1-star rating automatically equate to griefing and/or harassment? If someone sincerely ranks you 1-star because the game is asking for them to register their vote/opinion after finishing/quitting an arc, they register it via a single-star, you are going to report them for having an opinion you don't like and call that harassment?
Good grief....are you really so vain as to think that your opinion is of more value than someone else's, and if they disagree with you that disagreement constitutes a case of harassment?
Seriously, if this is your rationale for getting a persons name when they rank you, the devs would be well served to just eliminate AE entirely. That's totally overboard and reeks of someone who assumes that they must be the producer of perfect content and anyone who disagrees with their own self-assessment should be penalized.
If the devs classified 1-star ratings as griefing/harassment, then why did they ever _ALLOW_ for 1-star ratings in the first place? -
Just eliminate the ratings. Drama gone. If people want to see their name up in lights, give them a way to pay Paragon Points to market their AE arcs. Or, you know, market them the way farmers market theirs...word of mouth.
-
Why? What are going to do with the name of the player who rated you negatively? Send them threatening Tells? "Out" them publicly here on the forums as a "Nasty rater?" Form a "Ratings Russler" posse to track them down and bring them to justice? Tell all your friends to not play with that person or otherwise exclude them from Reindeer Gamesque activities?
I'm being serious....what purpose does removing the anonymous rating feature solve for you? -
^^ I think its fairly obvious from how the iTrials have been built, the whole incarnate system in general, the Marketplace and now Freedom business model that the Devs are now _IN_ the farming business.

Quote:I've gone redside round-trip with all of my hero's to grab villian-side Epics. I've never had a problem with that arc, although I've had to set the mission diff sliders really low on a FF/Archery defender once. I always do it solo since almost all my friends are exclusive to blue-side and, as you've indicated, finding PuG teams redside (even on Freedom which is highly populated) is very, very difficult. Most zones show a /whoall of zilch when I check.Im seriously having issues with Redside content. I rarely find players and on top of that something like GW's arc Im completely stuck on Numina.
So Dark Blast/Pain does not seem to get the job done.
What part of that arc is challenging for you? -
I've got different farming builds for different types of farms. A S/L farmer (DP/MM blaster) in this case for S/L farms, etc. I find I still go back to my SS/FA brute for most farming (tickets, PL'ing, etc.) simply because farming itself isn't that entertaining and I play to have fun. So I want to minimize the time I'm not having fun by going with the most efficient farming build I can. SS/FA wins.
-
I'm rather concerned that one of the reasons MasterMinds has been moved to "premium content" status post release of Freedom has very little to do with the fact that its considered an "expert class" AT. Instead, I wonder if this is just more validation to not focus as much dev effort on the AT as a whole. They never created a similar AT on the Hero side, which is somewhat odd considering that all other powersets (outside of EAT/VEATs) have been populated more or less.
Maybe they just want the MM population to continue shrinking? -
Quote:Because ***hats see, ***hats do I guess? AE should now stand for A**hat Entertainment.Considering people have had their stories one starred because they're 'poor farms', this is running counter to that. If people downvote story arcs for being 'poor farms', why not downvote farm arcs for being poor stories?
At least its nice to see that the Authors and Farmers both share a common behavioral trait. -
Ahhhh ok, that works. I was using the power name. Thanks!

No, I'm not talking about petsay_all....that makes all of them do something (like juggle in your example).
I'm talking about making a specific group of henchman (Tier 1, 2 or 3) say something (or emote if I wanted that). The command to do that is /petsay_pow power_name message according to all the Wiki's.
But for the life of me, I can't get it to work. -
I'm trying to get one "group" of henchman to say something, but not all. petsay_all will make all of them say it, petsay_name will let an individual one say something, but I can't for the life of me get petsay_pow to work.
I'm trying something like this:
/macro "Rear" petsay_pow Summon Demons <Flanking!>
I can get that to work on an individual Demon, but not on the whole 'tier' of demons as it appears they should.
Is there a different syntax I should be using? -
I've really been scouring the boards for a decent Demon/TA build and have come up short. I want to try and cap out on Ranged defense since I've taken Hover/Fly for mine, but thus far, I've not had a lot of luck.
Can anyone point me to a decent build that I could try? -
New business model. Ratings Farms. I love it.
-
Nope, not 50 yet. I've even tested this by dismissing all of my pets first thinking that maybe they snuck in a shot or something and set it alight, but Acid Arrow sometimes (not always) ignites Oil Slick. Makes no sense according to my college chemistry...but I admit to being drunk for much of that semester so maybe.
For me, I often shoot acid arrow right after dropping Oil Slick so thats why I see it so often. -
Here's an idea....kill the rating system. We used to have one here on the forums waaaaaay back when and they killed it because of the drama it caused. Seems we have another candidate here as well.
-
I played in early, early beta of this game and back then you could mix and match powersets...the concept of AT's, while there, wasn't the same as it is now. I was actually quite disappointed when the devs went the way of the traditional MMO and gave us Tanks, Mages (blasters), Healers (Defs), etc. As a big Pen and Paper Champions fan, I really wanted the original model to work.
It didn't, for all the reasons already stated.
While I'm sure the devs COULD create a similar system, it somewhat invalidates 5+ years of development centered on game balance issues. Why they would throw most of that away so you could just create something that destroys their ideas of balance is beyond me.
The whole powerset respec, I'm betting, is a different matter. They will charge you for this soon enough. And when they can make money by letting you do it, they'll let you. Until then, creating more alts has been their way of prolonging the game.
And really, if I don't like a toon, I delete it. I've deleted 50's that were just taking up space. I delete toons all the time in the low 40's...by then I've got both Tier 9's and all but my Epics so I have a good idea of whether or not the late game (which takes up more time than the first 40 levels combined) is going to be enjoyable for me or not. If not...trash bin. No big deal really...just PL another to about 32 and then play it to test it out. Only takes a few hours to do that. -
I think this just confirms that they hope to make money off of F2P by offering them tokens to buy a level, XP to gain a level, character slots, etc. Basically, they have been paying attention to how PL'rs work the system and are now in competition with them.
That, and the number of us with multiple paid accounts who were hoping to cancel all but one primary one was likely a threat to their revenue model. I have one account that is ONLY used for PL purposes. Without level pacting, I would need to keep paying for at least two accounts to make this work. -
I had noted Oil Slick igniting from my Acid Arrow....didn't think that was possible but it worked.
But since I hover over the fray while commanding my Demons, I had just really noticed the "run up to patch and use ranged" approach more often than not. Every once in awhile, the Prince will run into the flames to stomp on someone but they almost always ring the edge and use ranged attacks.
Better than Fleeing in terror but still not sure that is how it is supposed to work. Makes sense I guess from a 'realism' perspective. I'd been absent from the game for a long while and wasn't sure if the problem had been addressed (still listed as an open issue in the MM issues thread sticked above). -
Sorry to necropost, but I was wondering whether or not they had fixed Oil Slick so that the pets no longer flee it or are afraid to enter it? I've noticed that my demons will SOMETIMES enter the oil slick, but most of the time, they just ring around it and use ranged attacks instead.

Well, I suppose. You can grab Swap Ammo by lvl 6 as a Blaster and Hellions top out at level 15. So for the hour it takes you to level from 6-15....sure, Cryo rounds work.
But so does Brawl. And your inherent. And Vet weapons (Nem Staff, etc.) if you got 'em.
My point is that the devs really need to make Swap Ammo worth, y'know, actually swapping from Fire to anything else. And I wouldn't count on Power Boost really making much of a difference since the difference is already negligible to begin with.
Frankly, at that low of a level, I find leaving Swap Ammo off to be more effective. The knockback does more for me than the measly Cryo rounds do. And I've yet to see Toxic useful for anything. Long AV fights maybe....but as someone once said, shedding a tear in the ocean doesn't really make a difference. -
Quote:Originally Posted by MepheDP/MM is never gonna be an SS/Fire for farming. If you are going to drop alot of inf for a farming toon I would ask why bother when you can get the best farming toon for pretty cheap.
I had always assumed a DP/MM with softcapped S/L, perma Drain (to heal the hits that do get thru) wouldn't even need Vengeance to farm?
But the above needs repeating. If great farming is your goal, PL a dedicated farm toon. If you are just looking for variety or "Hey lookit!" grins and giggles, 500MM to turn your DP/MM into a farming build isn't a bad investment. It wouldn't be my go-to build for serious farming but blasters never are. -

Quote:The most intense damage I've personally seen among my own MMs is my Bots/TA. At least when Oil Slick is up, with the -res patches, and the Bots lighting it slick for sure... it's a thing of beauty. I know OSA has a high recharge so it may not be the highest consistent damage, but when it is up, truly awesome.
I was going to say the same thing about my Demon/TA. Drop glue + oil slick and a disruption or acid arrow, and all that plus the Demons lowering even more RES. Ignite the slick and it's BBQ time. Sort of like playing a fire/rad MM.
