Quote:The original Hami set-up was more like a zone event or public quest than a raid - while there needed to be a large(ish) number of people there, you did not need to actually form a group. People could just show up and essentially do their thing in a vaguely organized manner. You're mistaken. Hamidon enhancements were raid content. They could be traded to characters who never stepped foot in the Hive, unlike Incarnate shards, threads, or components, but in order for them to exist in the first place, someone had to raid for them. Later on, you could get them through Statesman's and Lord Recluse's TFs, but initially you pretty much had to be there or someone who was willing to give them to you had to be there. And when HOs were stronger and there was no ED, there were characters that were entirely slotted out with HOs, who were significantly stronger than characters who weren't. What is the difference, exactly? Even after ED, HOs were still fairly strong. Even after HOs were nerfed to make room for IOs, they were still more potent than anything else you could slot.

Actually, I think a lot of people would be happy if all rewards were available through a solo option. And a group option, too. It's tying the rewards to one style or other that's problematic, not the content itself.

Yep, I agree that it should have gone through a review, and it very well could have. I just wanted to throw out a couple of points in the previous post - this is an interesting event in the ever-evolving world of research ethics.

To quote a friend of mine who knows more about this subject that I:
[ QUOTE ]
In the field type studies do not need explicit consent of the people involved. They do need to pass the ethics board for not causing lasting harm to those who are involved without their knowledge.

She also has informed me that internet alias' count as this sort of coding you refer to (since no personal information is given).
If you would like to continue this argument I can actually do some research myself...but I've been lazy so far.
Edit: Doh! Wrong quote!
[/ QUOTE ]
A few comments: field (or observational) studies don't usually require consent, but when a researcher actively takes part, it's no longer a field study. It's an experiment. Also, I'd be careful about the use of character names as identifiers, since they can still be linked to individuals and their use could lead to a person being harassed, embarrassed, whatever, even if just in-game. Identifiers are not limited to real life names, and the consistent use of essentially a nickname could be considered personal information. -

Sorry if this has already been said...
The real tragedy is this kind of situation will only make it more difficult for actual (MMO) research to be conducted.
Which is something that is usually considered by institutional boards, BTW. -

I like the 57 month one. When I make a new character, there's always something I forget, the colors don't look like they do in the creator, something turns out to be annoying, or whatever. It's not enough to burn a vet costume token, so I end up paying the fee. It's not a huge thing - the fee isn't exactly large in the early levels - but the 57 month reward will still be very useful to me. -

Hopefully, the helmets will be male and female.
[/ QUOTE ]
No.. Only the Widow helm is available for females.

Sorry if this has already been addressed, but I've put the red Mu helmet on female characters before. Looks snazzy, if severe. -
Went in as a level 25 (somewhat gimp) stalker on villainous....not a good time. Between waves of ambushes that can see through hide, the hide suppression now associated with clicking glowies, and Valkyrie as an elite boss (!!!), it was painful, painful, painful. I used to be able to complete heists with a little difficulty, but this just felt impossible.
