Quote:Great guide and I agree with what the others have said. Here is the thread Caemgen is referring too.
Descriptions, reference images and physical details can make it easier for the artist to recreate your character.
Don't overlook simple facts like gender and age. I've had one of my female characters drawn as a butch male elf, and Comrade Hero has been drawn as a younger Nightwing type character. I didn't mind that so much, but turning my slender female Ice blaster into a hulking mass of man muscle really annoyed me. -

Thanks very much for the birthday wishes everyone, and apologies on not replying sooner. Been wrestling with Windows 7 upgrades today and it was a lot of fun forgetting to back up a ton of passwords and logins
And I'm still going... hehe

I didn't make the top 50, but will hopefully still get a shiny Prismacolor Premier Illustration Markers Set.
A big thank you everyone who voted and supported Comrade Hero through this Creative Invite. It's both encouraging and humbling to receive interest not only in my character, but also my creative vision of creating a bilingual comic book in print and digital editions for the purpose of encouraging literacy skills development and promoting Maori language exposure.
Me te mihi nui mo a koutou manaakitanga,
James Hansard.

Quote:It's an argument that's been going on for well over a year, with different people criticizing Talenthouse's Voting System. Check this thread - Competitions Should Not Be A Popularity Contest.I found ImagesbyAlex in the pile too, and put in a vote. Using my pseudonym. Like 'airhead' needs a pseudonym.
But it does add up to "who knows more people on Facebook", rather than anything to do with the art or hero concepts presented. I think you've hit the nail on the head, to treat the whole process as an education in such processes.
I did enjoy paging through a mountain of heroes. So much like a jar of M&Ms. Perhaps they could be categorized though, not just "most votes". More like a dating website. I had no luck "ISO curly haired heroine".
It's a numbers game - namely how many numbers you can get from Facebook or Txting.
However the overall concept of Talenthouse isn't a bad one and I've generated real interest and potential follow-up leads for my Comrade Hero Project.
And with that in mind...

Quote:It's the potential for information gathering that turns a lot of people off and I don't blame them. I try to keep my Comrade Hero page on Facebook relatively free of personal information that doesn't relate to my Project.I just made a Facebook account to vote. I didn't like that I had to give Talenthouse the permission to access my info, email me, and post on my wall (whatever that means).
I voted for TA too while I was at it.It looks like they allow multiple voting.
And yes you can vote for as many or as few different heroes as you like. I went though and voted for every single entry. Took me a while but I'm a firm believer in socialis..... I mean supporting artistic talent! -
Thanks very much! Although now it's jumped back up 60 votes needed. But so long as people keep sending me nice comments, feedback and support I'll keep getting back up and swinging until the final bell ring.
Quote:And again, it requires Facebook or SMS messaging? Uh. No.
I'm sorry CH, but this site is apparently hell bent on keeping me from voting for you, or anyone.
The reliance on Facebook and SMS has also led to some of the artists withdrawing their entries altogether as they see this more as a popularity contest than a real talent one.
Your feedback is actually quite welcome. The data I've collected from this Creative Invite will be used in the market/promotional analysis I have to do for some of my funding applications.
So I'll be taking note of the complaints, suggestions, and barriers to voting/participation that I've received from potential voters.
And if I get in the top 100, I'll receive a set of Prismacolor Premier Illustration Markers Set. Of course, I'm either going to gift those to an arts related charitable organization or donate them to an artist. I'm afraid my hands aren't quite what they used to be. -

That would be easy for me, although definitely a CGI merge of a hard body and an even harder face to bring Comrade Hero to life.
Comrade Hero
The body of competition-era Arnold Schwarzenegger (this was rendered by Luc Bégin.
