Much as I love Empaths around on a team (I do, although i prefer others in a GOOD team), I am not sure they are the most diverse set in the pack... they are all buffs and heals. Storm and Rad do Debuffs, Buffs, Heals AND odds (like knockback, attacks, and holds), and every other set does at least two functions (e.g. Sonic debuffs, protects, holds, buffs, Forcefield buffs, knockbacks, disorientates, holds)
Can you really say Empaths are most varied? -
How about a slight modification to Defiance? Your defiance bar increases at a RATE proportinal to your HP (Kicks in at 25% very slowly building up, shoots up furiously at 5% or less).
It drops fairly quickly otherwise.
This means a blaster who gets whooped and healed will still have a bit of extra oomph in order to finish of that pesky boss? -
Empaths make a bad team bearable, but a skilled team will want other defenders more IMO.
Thing about Empaths is they get unwarrented "press coverage" - huge pretty green numbers suddenly appear in front of desperate characters lives.
But a bubbler - no effect. No one realises that the reason they are not getting hit is the shiny thing. Radiation is pretty, but not everyone realises the reason they are suddenly hitting with every attack for more damage is due to the radiation. Etc etc. Other defender sets are just less visible.
I find that as you get to higher levels, when teams are more experienced etc, Empath becomes far less attractive, because the wise are not hypnotised by life saving heals.
Prevention of getting the damage in the first place always better than healing it IMHO
Playing CoV has taught me that heals are over-rated -
Pure" tank an ice/ice? Try and say that to an AV.....
Your concept of "pure" tank looks like it has to be nothing more than a target, so what's best for just being a target than granite armor(-dmg, -recharge, -speed but loads of def and res) and rooted??
You can't move, can't make decent dmg(due to ED mainly, for the loss of perma-hasten and 5 slotted attack for dmg)but you can take hell loads of beatings..
Then you can go stone/ice if u want someone else to make the killings and you'll just take the aggro, being a "pure" tanker, as you say..
Err... I said Ice SECONDARY for pure tank, not Ice/Ice. No need to mock my Ice/Ice tanker - I dont play it because i dont want to let teams down
Nothing allows you to take more punishment than Granite Armour I grant you. If you want to be maximum aggro absorber, Rock/Ice would be best IMHO. But Ice Slide is unequivically the best defensive power in the secondary set.
And BTW Ice tanks have had buff recently. And as I am now playing a Defender Rad, I would actually PREFER an Ice tank in my team, because they cluster mobs like no-one else. They are highly mobile, best resistance to status effect, and bets AoE taunt. If you have good debuffers in a team, Ice tanks are a godsend. -
WHilst I find playing a tank thoroughly rubbish these days (and have almost retired, not deleted my lvl 30 ice/ice), one point:
If you are going for "pure" tank i.e. you are there to soak up as much aggro as possible, Ice secondary can simply not be beat. Why? Ice Slide. With 2 SO this can be perma, and multiplies your ability to take aggro significantly. I find it particularly good with CE from ice primary (slowed and falling over = not much time to attack you).
Ice secondary seems otherwise a bit poor in damage (although at least not as much cold resistance in enemies than smash/lethal). I would strongly advise ice if you want "pure" tank, but not if you want a scranker. -

I may have wandered off from Strict Utalitarianism.
The greatest good (i.e. happiness) for the greatest many.
Is the calculation for relative "goodness" of action / inaction.
I am not sure by strict application of this prinicple any action / inaction is inherently good?
Ye gods, we need a philosophy strand.
And I still need to know how to join SG. I am tempted to start a philosopher heroes (as opposed to Plato's Philosopher kings) one now... -
I fail to see how "good" can be quatified in any way other than subjectively (although in the health field attempts have be made to have standardised semi strutured rating scales). Please enlighten me.
And tell me when to shout out to join. -
Whilst I accept that prediction of the future is a) impossible in any absolute sense (due to Heisenbergian theory if nothing else) and b) It is a necessity for Utilitarianism, one must take into account that probability is a real science and can be the foundation block of a good ethical basis in Utalitarianism. The problem is rather the difficulty in quantifying "good" and calculating this into probability.
Put that in your pipe and Smerk it.

Without any offence to the much valued and liked younger players, I am looking to find a SG with a "mature" membership. I.e. I dont have the reactions of a cat after a gallon of strong coffee (although I am a fairly good player of course
) and I dont consider it a race to lvl 50.
And I can debate free will vs. determinism and the ethics of Utilitarianism and Kant (this however, would not be a requirement of the SG). -

Im Rad / Electric, but that shouldnt matter IMO as electric also have 2 good AoE blasts, and personally i prefer END drain to acc debuff (which arent really needed if you have Rad primary).

What is really needed tho is the determination amongst defenders to get assault tactics. I have been on CoV with just 3 or 4 MM all with assault and they absolutely RIP through minions without pause. -

Just started a Rad Defender - now lvl 10, im a fairly experienced player i must add, I just fancied a different type of Alt.
Loving Rad i must say. But listen to my fantasy:
8 man team of Rad / Whatever (except anything that knockbacks)
All on team have Assault + Manuevers
All on team have Lingering Radiation + Enervating Field
All have fitness pool / stanima
(OK Tight I know, but bear me out)
I'm not really a min/maxer or huge into the math but...
From Tactics Pool alone: +80% defence, +100% damage. So, team are already all tanks, and do more damage than 8 blasters without tactics.
Team runs to mob. Bam Ennervating Field x8, Bam Lingering Duration x8 all synchronised. Alpha Strike? pfff can you imagine the effect when running 80% defence and suddently 8 stacked dam red effects on team.
Defenders all run into melee (to keep group clumped). Fire of 8 AoE blasts, all at +100% from assault, against mobs with 8 stacked def debuffs and 8 stacked dam res debuffs. I can only imagine anything that isnt +4 or +5 minions will drop in two rounds of this.
Then drop the anchor (a lt or boss)
Mop up stragglers
Move on
Anybody see a problem with this? I racked my brains. Teleporters, maybe, but not many and the odd one can be endured. Toggle droppers? Maybe, but remember 80% defence, they can't drop more than one or two? And recall 8 healers in groups to account for errors.
IMHO this team would absolutely tear through anything on invincible, maybe even strike forces.
If anybody is interested in this, I will set up a SG of rad defenders on Union. If enough join, the only thing stopping team would be lvl cap. -
Give up now mate, I can barely bring myself to play my lvl 30 ice/ice tank... Dull dull dull, punctuated by death

Even so 50/350 aint to clever (technically 7 AT i suppose, although PB and WS should be less common) -
Just been on Defiant with a Lvl 30 Tank. Granted, this is when most people playing CoV I guess.
950 people on defiant
57 of them tanks
I.e. About 6%
Which suggests they arent fun to play...
And despite the paucity, and me running around with looking for team on, no interest in me... suggesting they arent popular any more...
