Everything a Nerf in the last 10 months?
Hyeprbole
Some big things added
Striga (maybe not sure on timing)
[/ QUOTE ] Was here when I got here... looks like last November.
[/ QUOTE ]
Just a nitpick: Striga was part of I3. It was on put on the test server some time in Novemeber, but it did not hit the Live servers until shortly after New Year's - 10 months ago. -

Can we take a poll of who cares? No? Nobody even cares about a poll of who cares about this little hatchet you're grinding away at?
Bummer. I guess actual lives will have to start up again.

Well obviously you cared enough to respond to this post and waste 3 minutes typeing.
I'm only giving you one minute of my time.

Are you still calling for factual errors? I'm not sure how long it took me to type that post, but I'm pretty it took less than 3 minutes to imagine that bon mot and then type it.

Alright, one last try here. I could really care less if CoH has the same number of subscribers as WoW.

I'm sorry if I lumped you in with armsman but the post I responded to had you stating:

s that the only point in my post you feel needs addressed? *shrug* Okay, fine. If you think you can gain 3 million in Asia to catch up go for it.

... which seemed to indicate that you had bought into armsman's argument that if a company isn't actively trying to achieve WoW marketshare then they are failing.
[ QUOTE ]
What I do care about is the fact the devs seem so focused on a very narrow view of the game and their own interpretation of fun that it is driving many people from the game.
[/ QUOTE ]
That, I would agree, is a worthy, nuanced topic. The HO threads from last winter had moments when it addressed this in interesting, informative ways. I'm not sure that I agree with your conclusion, but for any game it is worthy topic of discussion. Unfortunately any time the phrase "driving many people from the game", it's a herculean effort to avoid getting bogged down in actual subscriber numbers that are affected by a variety of factors including what might be called "devs tinkering with existing gameplay".
This thread likely has passed the point of no return as far as a good esoteric discussion on what you'd really rather discuss.Next time, maybe?

If the bar is set at trumping WoW in sub numbers, then this is a pointless exercise. It isn't happening - ever - for a variety of factors, some of which are beyond the control of the devs.
If DOOM means never hitting 3 millions subs, then you win. Doom, it is.
If the bar is a profitable, continuing gamespace, then you lose.
That's the factual separation of the nonsensical semantic argument here. In addition, it is a fact that NCSoft looks at the North American/Euro markets as test beds for product that they eventually want to publish in the most important market to the company: Asia. CoH is a comfortably profitable beta for the Asian market, and NCSoft is very much looking forward to CoH's release in Korea early next year. NCSoft is very happy that Cryptic was able to supply the publisher with it's only new shelf product globally for the fourth quarter, as other products slipped their window.
<ul type="square">[*]What this has to do enjoying/not enjoying the game is beyond me.[*]Why armsman feels that the devs are obligated to provide financial data about the game above NCSoft's legally-required obligations is beyond me.[*]Why armsman blames the devs entirely for the subscription drop last fall when EVERY other NorthAm/Euro-only MMO suffered the same drop and has yet to recover their pre-Fall 2004 numbers is beyond me.[/list]I don't mind people not liking the game or its dev team, but this is really starting to smell like one of those times when someone has a personal problem and is grasping around for something to elevate it beyond that. -

Ah! A clue! Could the next expansion be about PULP-type heroes, like the Shadow? Hmmm...

BTW folks, in the true spirit of thread-jacking, Go_Sabres came up with a great idea to have monthly or twice-monthly mini-events in one of the PvP zones on par with the PvP exercises done during the last weeks of beta.

Where is the harm in opening the game to the general playerbase a couple days early?
[/ QUOTE ]
It would cause Cryptic/NCSoft to break the terms of sale on the pre-order boxes which lists the 2-day headstart as an EXCLUSIVE perk to pre-ordering. The people who pre-ordered are exponentially more likely to be long-term subscribers. You really don't want to anger them needlessly.
I also think you underestimate impulse shoppers being patient enough to wait the two days.

Do you really think they stand to lose more customers by opening the servers than not?

Ginger Dip with Apples and Pears
This cream cheese dip sings with fruit flavors!
1 package (8 ounces) cream cheese, softened
1 cup plain low-fat yogurt
1/4 cup honey
2 teaspoons grated gingerroot
1 can (8 ounces) crushed pineapple in juice, drained
1 tablespoon orange juice
1/3 cup water
2 pears
2 red apples
2 golden apples
1 tablespoon slivered almonds, toasted and finely chopped
1. Beat cream cheese, yogurt, honey and gingerroot in medium bowl with spoon until creamy. Fold in pineapple. Cover and refrigerate about 1 hour to blend flavors.
2. Mix orange juice and water. Slice pears and apples. Dip pears and apples in orange juice mixture; drain.
3. Sprinkle almonds over cream cheese mixture just before serving. Serve with pears and apples. -

I'm gonna take a big risk here and guess you're not in marketing. When you have Blizzard dominating the MMO player base, and you find yourself in a situation where you're losing customers, the correct response is not "Here's a tissue". Its "how can we compansate so our majority of new customers aren't burned".
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm officially bored to tears with people invoking Blizzard or WoW to bolster a shaky assertion. -
[ QUOTE ]
But the game is locked out to EVERYONE who didn't pre-order it. Just sit back and think of how many customers PlayNC is losing.
[/ QUOTE ]
Why? I disagree that they are losing them and I don't think it is my job to get emotionally involved with how the game's distribution may hurt some Super Sensitive person's feelings. -
[ QUOTE ]
So you're saying that its the retail industry's fault that they launched the game early, and not at all playNC's fault for locking the game out for anyone other than pre-order customers.
[/ QUOTE ]
They haven't launched early. We are in the midst of a headstart period which is not novel to Cryptic/NCSoft. The launch day is October 31st. I imagine that some stores may still have pre-order boxes with a serial that will allow you to play CoV this weekend.
Allowing the sale of the game early gives retailers the ability to mail out copies to customers in a timely fashion, something that was not possible for CoH's launch and was a big buzz-kill for people who pre-ordered well in advance, were able to participate in the headstart period, and then were locked out of the game on launch day.
[ QUOTE ]
Just sit back and imagine right now how many kids got this game on Friday from their local EB or GameStop or (fill in here) and got it home, only to find themselves locked out because they weren't a Super Special member? Think of the customers PlayNC is losing!
[/ QUOTE ]
Here's a tissue. Nobody here is "Super Special". Many of us actually bothered to get our pre-order boxes after doing some brief reading on the game months ago. Virtually all the printed and online promotion of the game specified October 31st as launch day. -
[ QUOTE ]
Unless only certain stores were affected and they're only going to honor requests for people who bought their CEs at those stores?
[/ QUOTE ]
That's likely a concern. "Me too" syndrome can get expensive. Requiring a receipt also enables them to better track down how the problem occurred, as well. -
He might need a copy of it to present, depending on Loki's solution to the situation. It's true that his actual gameplay will be unaffected.
