Got the X covered with Xllusya (see above post)... going to check if I have any Y's
Edit: nope none of my mains start with Y -
Quote:I dunno what that other person is smoking, but I think your work is amazing. It's so full of life and humor and movement and just 'fun-ness,' it's like each one is about to jump off the page. I think that's an incredible and rare quality--it reminds me of the work of one of my favorite artists, Wendy Pini. Her stuff just looks like it's living and moving on the page. I think you have that same sort of ability.
Hope you get to feeling better about it all soon.
Off topic I know but I couldn't let the above comment slip by without notice.
Wendy Pini is AWESOME!
Elfquest was the first graphic novel I ever read way back when... I still have one of the original 5 sets. W.a.R.P. Graphics ftw! -
Teh cuteness... it's overtaking meeee.....
Nice stuff Psygon, not sure how many letters you still need for your cute alphabet
but if you don't have an X or a C yet I'd like to see what you could do with,
Xllusya...
Xllusya (Illusion/Empathy Controller) is the goddess of Illusions Sunlight and Lightning. Her Bio/background is here.
She has large golden eyes, pointy elven ears and is decked out in white and gold and recently attained a golden halo.
or Chloe Macomber...
Chloe (Dark Miasma/Radiation Defender) is a witch and the rightful ruler of the cabal in Croatoa.
She was usurped by her younger sister Mary. Her bio is here.
She used to wear the Duster wide brim hat until she defeated Mary in the trial of 10
and earned the right to wear the witches hat of the Cabal.

Quote:Thanks you guys! Sorry I didn't post at all yesterday. I was playing CoH all day with a friend of mine.
I'll openly admit that I'm in a real slump at the moment due to a comment I received on DA, which is resulting in me not knowing where to go with my art. It hurts quite a bit, so I'm trying to recover from it.Quote:Originally Posted by Pirate CashooIt was more along the lines of 'your older art was better, your newer stuff isn't as good.' While I know my newer style doesn't appeal to the masses as much, I still feel like I'm a much better artist now, at least in technical aspects. I don't draw in anime/manga style anymore, so I know that's one part that many of my watchers miss.
It really boils down to what's more important to me: the audience, or myself?
It has all the subtlety of a gut punch but comes wrapped in an "almost" nice comment... been there.
Stuff like this can happen when you open your art up for the world to see and it can really throw you
for a loop sometimes especially if it's said by someone you know i.e. family, friends, a long time fan
who follows your work, someone who's opinion you trust etc. etc.
Having been an artist for many years I can relate, I even walked away from art altogether for many years when things got to be too much.
I only started drawing again in recent months because my niece asked me (the way only a child can lol) to draw her portrait and now seeing
all the CoH art here and on DA has got me... curious again (though now I feel like I'm way behind and everyone has gone digital while I still
use traditional mediums).
Anywho... having been down that path a few times, let me offer a bit of perspective. Art is very subjective, some people will like where you're
going and some wont, some want you to experiment and grow, some want you to never change away from what they are used to getting
from you... some are just jealous. Sometimes you do it for the fans and sometimes it's just for you, the trick is to find a balance. Everyone is
different and you will never be able to please everybody... nor should you ever try to.
Also, something to bear in mind, you don't lose the ability to draw manga just because you try a different style ya know? You've created
something and even if you put it down and walk away for a while it will still be there when/if you choose to come back to it. You might
have to dust it off (*practice*) a bit to bring back the shine but it's not going anywhere and hey in the long run fans will come and fans
will go, you are the one constant that remains so I say go for it. You clearly have a degree of talent, and it looks like your new style
is picking up bunches of new fans already... myself included.
Don't worry, you will never become a worse artist just because you tried something new!
Now quit playing the game all day and get back to teh artz! **/e cracks whip**
P.S. If that person's opinion (and that's all it really is) is still bothering you though I'd say you should really take Ghost's advice and ask
them what they meant by it. Could be they intended something different and it just came out that way.
Get clarity first before you let it have any impact on you.

Quote:Sorry I haven't posted in a day or two! I've been a little busy!
I have a few pics, but only one of them is an actual request, lol. I'm going in random order again apparently.
Wow the colors you did on that piece for Ibones really work. They are complimentary yet
still prominent and show off the character to great effect. I was going to mention the legs
seem a bit short but I seen now in your caption you noticed already... they don't really
detract all that much though you could almost miss it with all the other good stuff drawing
your attention. Lots of great detail work as I found my eyes darting back and forth to
different spots and back again. Great piece.
I really enjoy seeing WIPs as well so thanks for sharing that with us.
Some good action in the poses so far.
That comic was pretty funny, hey don't feel so bad I think that is how Vahz zombies show they like you... no really, they're always showing my blaster just how much they really care about him heh.
I like your villain as well. The top down view, while unusual, works well with the top hat, face stiches
and expression to lend menace to the piece. The red outline is a nice touch too.
Good stuff I can't wait to see more.
P.S. since you are going in a kind of backwards order... my references were submitted near the end...

Quote:mmmm rep.........
I am not quite sure what rep can really mean when you can get it amped randomly by just giving it to someone else. I do like the comments i get from em though. I get the feeling the rep thing won't be around forever. Once they see the negative impact it has on the majority, it will be gone like they did before with the stars on the old board.
I wouldn't mind an anonymous option for people though i would never use it myself.
Hmmm didn't know that, I created a forum account way back then but I was too busy
playing the game to ever read the boards or post... so that's what those stars were about.
Thanks TA.
P.S. Lol at your new avatar... looks like "collecting" teh artz has lost it's appeal and you've
now graduated to yoinking costumes made of tissue paper.

Quote:Lol well not everybody.lol, reputation.
I wish my rep was still negative, because it only shows how flawed a system of semi-public opinion voting is. Everybody is too concerned with playing nice with the neighbors to say anything that would ruin their precious rep.
Quote:I prefer to leave it on, since it amuses me. But my rep is now positive. I mean, whassup wit that? :3
For that matter I guess i'm not either. Hmmm hold that thought...

Dear Anonymous #1,
Yes my monitor IS that impressive it's the best
picture/rez money can buy... clearly you have a very very small...
monitor and are suffering from "Monitor Envy."
You should get that looked at... I hear there is a twelve step
program or something. But hey on the positive
side that color of green you've turned goes nicely with your chicken feathers.
P.S. I don't like your text size/color either so go suck a fartsicle...
oh and have a nice day
***********************************
Dear Anonymous #5,
Tacky got "picked on" (as you put it) plenty of times for his pieces in earlier
months and not by me. Go see for yourself.
And when I did mention his piece fell under "what will get you eliminated this month"
Well first of all it was true (but hey don't let that stop you)... and secondly
I mentioned all of the pieces that didn't fit the theme of that month.
I was fair across the board and did not single him out in that post.
Yes I know exactly why the others dropped out as I have spoken to Alex, Ed (aka Juggertha) etc at length.
No I don't know why Tacky "really" quit... but then neither do you. How about you
ask him rather than speculate?
P.S. If you really have an opinion you want to express send me a PM next time instead
and I will hear you out even if I disagree with you... if not, well then you stink... go take a anonymous shower or something.
*********************************
...there I should be in the red by this afternoon.

So the authors of the new forum, in their infinite wisdom (holds up sarcasm sign),
have given a way to post messages anonymously and say anything without (as far as I can tell)
chance of a reply. I'm wondering what people think of this.
My thoughts...
My initial reaction to this is negative, if you have something to say then say it
out in the open. If a public forum isn't the place for it then send a PM.
Both ways require people to be accountable for their words.
If we must have a way to post anonymously then (I feel) there should also be a
button to respond anonymously. They don't know you and you don't know them but
it's fair to both parties... it may even reduce the amount of public flames wars.
If your anonymous chat goes nowhere fine but some people might actually
(GASP) come to an understanding even if they just agree to disagree... all without
involving the rest of the forums.
My second reaction was to notice that I had received many positive rep points and
only 2 (so far lol) negative ones so it can be a good thing too. A way to do a good
turn for someone whom you agree with or who has done something nice for you.
In that situation I would still like an anonymous reply button so I could say I don't know
who all you people are but thank you for the +Rep.
So what do people think of the Rep system?
Good idea? Bad idea?
Should we have an Anonymous Reply button?

Quote:And the Final is HERE! Hope you like her CR...
LJ
Gah! I just realized that while I was out of it for a few days (curse you glory reps!) I never posted
anything here in response to this awesome piece you did for me.
What can I say man. I love it!
I've seen Chloe in game for years and drawn her half a dozen times
myself but you've managed to capture a whole other side of her I've not seen!
It might never have occurred to me to make her eyes more snake-like, as she isn't reptilian
per say (her green skin/red eyes came from the meteors of BloodyBay... more info here)
and used to look like a witch of the Cabal (well as close as the CC will let you get... I want
those shoulder pieces!), but that is the beauty of having other talented artists tackle a subject
you've done to death, they sometimes go in a whole new direction and bring out elements
you didn't realize were there. It's very striking and I honestly can't tell which version I like
better they both look great!I can't wait to see what you do with Xllusya but if it's
anything like this you're going to force me to buy more of these... darn you!

Also, maybe possibly NSFW here.
Hahahahah.
The bottle of "Mister Clean" is genius... you know your obsessed when your love of
bald headed super heroes affects your choice of toilet bowl cleaner.
Clever use of LousyDay's Positron movie poster on the wall too.
Good stuff Toxic Shia.
(Note: the preceding message was written in dark orange because I know you all love it so much)

Quote:Wow, lots of wonderful requests! Thanks so much guys, I already have a lot of interesting poses in mind.
Also (I think I will also edit this in my first post), if you guys have any expressions you want your character to convey, please say so in your post. Same goes for mood/theme. I don't want to draw a character with a generally dark demeanor smiling sweetly!
And thank you for the kind welcome. I've noticed this community is very welcoming and caring, like Pyro said. It's hard to find such respect in other places on the web.
I'll do a few pics today~
Welcome aboard Pirate Cashoo.
I'm a long time artist (traditional not digital though) and 4year+ veteran of CoH but relatively new to the art forums
(they have a forum for teh artz? why wasn't I notified!).
I would love to see you take a crack at either of my mains Xllusya...
Xllusya (Illusion/Empathy Controller) is the goddess of Illusions Sunlight and Lightning. Her Bio/background is here.
She has large golden eyes, pointy elven ears and (for her primary costume)wears the patrician toga, gold Helenic sandals,
gold Victory Laurel leaf crown, loops of gold chain on her neck, a golden headband and is seen wielding the Nemesis Staff.
Powers are white (illusions and blinding flashes), gold/orange (sunsparks when she strikes something with her fists)
and purple (the lightning that crawls on her body and her staff and the power spikes on her hands when gathering
power to distance teleport). When summoned she often appears in a beam of sunlight.
Her moods would be benevolent and protective (almost maternal) when with her followers or priestesses or
vengeful when facing minions of the Clockwork King. She has also recently attained a golden halo.
or Chloe Macomber...
Chloe (Dark Miasma/Radiation Defender) is a witch and the rightful ruler of the cabal in Croatoa.
She was usurped by her younger sister Mary. Her bio is here. More shots to choose from here.
She used to wear the Duster wide brim hat until she defeated Mary in the trial of 10 and earned the right to wear the witches hat.

Bah even the thumbnails look good... how annoying.
Good stuff Bobby, I could even see a bit of CZJ in the pencils before I read the bit about Douglas' wife.
I also enjoy the 4in1 WIP panels you put up as it always interests me how other artists work on things in a different order.
I tend to be an "eyes first and everything radiates out from there" kind of guy.
Only thing I could say to improve (nitpick I know) would be the moons "fuzzy" outline is lopsided...
oh yeah and you're crazy to be selling these @$11

Cool screens TS... which artist did that shot of you on the right hand monitor? It's pretty sweet. -
Quote:So now we have 2 artists to drop out of the contest. Tacky_Tricky and Juggertha.
Sorry to see you guys drop
Don't forget Alex too.

Look whatever anyone could say about how the contest was handled I don't think anyone can question your intentions... your heart is in the right place and you have always been a staunch supporter of Teh Artz.
Respect.
Look on the bright side dude... waaaay more good has come out of this contest than bad and in the end the drama will fade away (or fall victim to a purge heh) but the art will remain... that's as it should be.

Quote:Maddens you say? Mad as in angry or mad as in going crazy?Grrr, I always miss the good drama! And now if I brought the topic up again my intentions would be too obvious. Next time, board drama, next time...
Also, love the example you gave, TA.
And thirdly so, ChristopherRobin's giant orange text madens me.
If it's the angry kind then, well you know they say some competitors need to get mad to take it to the next level so if you win I'm totally taking the lion's share of the credit... " L&G the NEW FArt Champion of 2009 is... Toxic Shia!!! Now accepting the award (and most of the credit) for Toxic Shia's glorious victory is Christopher Robin's giant orange text!"
However if you are referring to the "going crazy" kind, well after seeing Mako get shot in the but and turn into a catgurl,
I think that ship has already sailed.
Quote:Pfft, he's just bucking the ridiculous fad of making posts "readable" and "easy on the eyes".
Quote:Originally Posted by WassyBut seriously CR... why orange? Why?????
What's the difference you say? I'm glad you asked!
Well you see there's regular orange and then there's like dark orange. It's like orange the fruit ya know, lets say you had a bunch of oranges you were going to eat and as soon as you went to peel them one squirted you right in the eye temporarily blinding you while it made it's crafty escape...
well that would be the dark orange... he's badass like that.
And second of all why not orange? I like orange. It's the color of... like, you know oranges, and uhh orange juice and stuff... and pumpkins which go into pumpkin pie...
mmmm pie.

Quote:I dunno from that shot and the perspective it doesn't look that much bigger than mine.
Really? Bear in mind that is an extra wide ergonomic keyboard in front of it.
Maybe this shot will help...
This is a pic of one of my normal aspect 20" monitors next to the 30" wide aspect monitor and beyond just the physical difference
in size I put the same exact desktop background on both so you can get an idea of how much more screen real-estate there is on
the 30". The 20 can display 1310720 pixels but the 30 can display 4096000... what does that mean in practical terms???
Notice where the steam is coming out of the floor grate in the lower left corner of the 20 and where the wooden box is?
See them on the 30? Also you can see that all the icons that easily fit the 30 are "off the screen" on the 20."
As for taking up space... get a bigger desk it's the right thing to do (or do what i did and get a 10ft. kitchen countertop
and make it into a desk).
P.S. That is a very cool Avatar scooter... what morphing software did you use?

Quote:Lousy Day put forth an amazing piece and earned his immunity... even more importantly (imho) is his great attitude of "yes I have immunity, and could slack off, but I will still bring my A game." That says a lot.Poor LD! He wins immunity this month but now it's pointless! Everyone's immune!
I don't feel his accomplishment is diminished in any way by the recent turn of events.
If anything I feel a little bad for Crestent.
Had either of the two who bowed out done so before the voting took place he would still be in the race and also carry immunity for another month.
That would've taken some amazing foresight and consideration on their part though and that's a tough thing to do when you are leaving to think well yeah I'm leaving but hey I can at least do something nice for one of my fellow competitors.
It's the way I would to choose to bow out but then I'm not competing in this particular art contest and I don't expect anyone to think the way I do or share my views on any given subject.

I'll take it into FWMX and darken it a bit. I'm doing these drawings with a 0.5 mechanical pencil and printer paper, so the paper gets a bit of transparency that's causing this fading. If you want to see the darkened version, go back to its DA page soon and it will be updated
Sweet, thanks!
