Just read it straight through in one sitting... Awesome!

Something about that Iron Jaw (sounds like the title of a kung fu theater episode lol)
keeps bringing me back to it... it's such a cool concept I wish I'd thought of it.
Spent a bit more time on this one (1 hour 45 min currently) & was
looking at my other thumbnail sketch as I drew this. Put the
facial scars in this time but haven't decided which way
the hood will go yet. The flash brightened this
quite a bit it's actually a darker green.

Quote:Lol he is indeed. Well the page he is on is anyway. He looks like he's skewed eeeeeeeever so sliiiiiiiightly to the right. But I'm loving the inking work. I'm fond of pen and ink =)
This is taken with a digital camera (since I don't know where my scanner
has been buried) and I had to tilt the page away at an angle or the flash whites everything out hence the slight skew.
You will notice this in all the images I have posted, sorry not much I can do about it atm short of shooting them outside but it's been real windy of late.

...and that sketch of Kilotonnage (from the thank you thread)
led me to draw another troll, don't know why he has
barbs on his chin, maybe a dyne overdose deformed it lol.
Spent about an hour and a half so far on this, no pre-sketch or reference.

Heya Wassy, nice work overall with a challenging subject.
As for critique most of the perspective issues have been touched on already here so I'll refrain from reiterating those but I would add that the lines of the room appear to be converging too rapidly toward the vanishing point for how short the room is. Also the top line of the lightswitch doesn't match the line of the doorframe (even given how much further down the wall it is).
Overall the biggest thing that stands out to me though is that there does not appear to be a definitive light source. Most of the shadows seem to hint that it's the window but looking at the room you can't really tell what time of day it is by the length or placement of shadows.
Other than that I would say you need to focus more on how circular object look in a 3D space. We are seeing too much of the far side of the light fixture and dials on the stove for example. The clock appears to be a drawing on the wall rather than solid and the fruit bowl, mixing bowl and the top of the coffee maker appear to be leaning in toward the viewer as well.
What is really well done are things like the floor tiles which look great and window sink area with the curtains blowing inward. Also the the door handles and the glass window on the stove are very convincing too and the fruit in the bowl looks edible... hmm now I'm hungry lol. Nice job with this.

Quote:Having been around since Issue2 I too was once part of an awesomethat's awesome, Kilo was the unofficial PUG leader of our SG, the Envisionaries... he would aggro and the rest of us would wipe the floor with the Enemy! I miss those days... thank you for making me relive what I miss most about COH you *******!
Just kidding, Kilo will LOVE this!!!
SG that has since disbanded... I too remember the good old days. Sighhhh.
Oh well things change, people move on and oh hey look powers customization.. shiny!

I shall call him Mini-tonnage
Just a small sketch in the upper corner of the page that turned out ok so I thought I would post it up.
Character is called Kilotonnage and is a troll with a metal jaw (I wish that jaw existed in the CC lol).
I saw a few pics of him on DA and doodled this up quick. I know that he has the scars going through
the right side of his face but this image was too small to fit them in. It's about 1.5 inches tall.
Hopefully it's at least somewhat like him lol.

Indeed you do
That is, you have the same digital image of it that everyone has... if you want
the actual artwork itself I can mail it to you as well. PM me your address if interested.
P.S. Yes I know your in Canada but I won't hold it against you... much.
Quote:It's done really well CR, but I have to say that putting in such a severe cheekbone seems to detract from the rest of the image. The line of her cowl as it crosses her face was more than enough to hint that it was there. I'd guess that you were trying to replicate LJ's penchant for having hard facial features but the effect winds up looking a bit skull-ish. Her neck is also dangerously thin compared to her full figured body.
mentioned it and I studied it a bit more that it could be seen as what's visible of her neck is all of it and
that would indeed make it way to thin lol... next time I will have to do a better job of breaking
up the hairline so that it is very clear that some of her neck is being hidden or cover so much of
her neck with hair that you know it has to be and you can't see it any other way... it's
kind of on the edge right now and could go either way. I'll keep it mind for next time and thanks
As for the cheek, yeah I can see that on the screen it does look severe, but it's not nearly as bad
on the actual art in my hands... I wonder if it's the flash making stuff look that stark and high contrast?
Luckily, skulls are pretty awesome too.
Quote:You're likely one of the only people on this forum who could actually take the criticism properly, so I'm not going to bite my tongue on it when I normally would.
value the opinions and tips of other artists and creative types because they often see what you
miss and will help you to improve your skills more than if you just get hundreds of people praising
your work... not that I would object to tons of abject praise mind you.
Speaking of tons... (or more precisely Kilotons...hint hint) I have a something else to post up
in a bit... it's nothing fancy just a 20 min quick sketch (15 to draw 5 to color) I did last night and
it's pretty small but it was fun and it relates to CoH.

Quote:If I can inspire someone else to pick up the pen again that makes me very happy.Wonderful work CR! You should definitely get back into your art, you have skills! I would love to see more of your work.
I'm in a similar boat. I did much pencil/paper illustration back in the day and pretty much just stopped. I'm not schooled in anatomy and my computer skills are self taught, so I'm in a bit of no man's land. Seeing so much talent on these boards is intimidating but your posting has inspired me to break out my sketch book again and see what emerges. Thank you!
I look forward to seeing what emerges as well and let me know if there is anything I can do to help. -

Quote:Your welcome Temperus happy to help. You'll have to post up the finished piece when you get it done. Thanks all for taking the time to look and the kind words
Those are some great points CR and I really appreciate your input, the idea of using the wings as a lightning conduit is really cool and I'll definitely put that in!
Wish me luck
Oh and good luck.

Quote:Ahh but until now it had not been said by you.I have to say this, though it's been said before and people will say it again.
AWESOME!
Thank you Ghost and if I haven't said it yet welcome to our side of "the pond."
Quote:Wow this is awesome! You should have shown us your artistic skills earlier!
somewhat problematic... but more than that I wasn't sure I wanted "the world" to see it... you know how
it is, when you don't practice your artz (or any skill for that matter) you start to doubt if your stuff is
display-worthy. It's the whole if I put together an art show would anyone come to see it thing?
Mostly it was Bobby, Alex, BW, Cashoo and a few of the other artists who cattle-prodded... err I mean
encouraged me to post... VexXxa the font theiftess probably had a role in it too (earlier in this thread)...
I can't be positive but I suspect her anyway cuz she is just suspicious like that.
Quote:Gorgeous work here CR, please feel free to share your work anytime. LJ looks great as well as the other sketches.
Ironically one of the first sketches I tried was of your character... must be a pointy ear thing... either that or it was the ice bikini
I may go back and work some more on it if I find the time over the holiday weekend but no promises.
Oh and Final Update! Yay it's done!
Howz it lookin?

Quote:Well done sketch Bobby I can already see the resemblanceWhat happens when you plan to work all week? Well the gods of gaming release that new *ahem* other game, and your son LOVES playing it so much, the two of you waste a day goofing around...
Then you get an email from some *ahem* fantasy game, saying it's now free to play... in between that you get a cold in your back that feels like a torturous twisted knot for 2 nights in a row...
Anyway long story short, back to sketching!
Apologies to those waiting... anyhoo here's the sketch:

Quote:YEAY! it's not only me and the Foo that sees it!Now that you say that, I totally see it.
Love your style with eyes and hair, CR. Excellent work.
I was starting to wond... errr I mean good eye Vivace
and thank you for the compliment eyes are hair are pretty much
my favorite things to draw... well cept bewbies but this is a (somewhat)
family rated game. -
DING DING DING! Score one for the Foo!
YEAY! it's not only me that see's it...
I was starting to wonder...
>.>
<.<
After about 20 guesses from people that I've shown it to and asked what celeb if any
came to mind no one else said Megan Fox but that is indeed who I was picturing when I
drew this... it's in the eyes for me that I see her as that is where I start most all my drawings.
Great eye for faces Foo... or at least for hot chick faces.

Quote:Well... you see there was this Malta Zeus Class Titan that just appeared out of nowhere while LJ was brushing her teethReally nice! Bobby must love it, or we all shall flog him.
I think the only little niggling thing that I notice is the neck/clavicle area looks a touch thin or flat to me.
and it totally sucker-punched her in the clavicle as she turned around...
Flattened it right out...
no joke... that was sneaky Malta, very sneaky!
No? ...Ok must be a tragic birth defect then.
I actually noticed that too Wassy, (good eye there) but alas it was too late to do anything about so I tried
to minimize it as much as I could. I'll be able to correct this kind of thing in post processing as (or if) I
gain skill in digital art techniques.
P.S. You bring the cat 'o nine tails for the flogging and I'll bring the guacamole
(what? it's not a party unless someone brings the dip) and a digital camera.

Update!
I got asked if the markers were bleeding through the page at all... ummm
yeah I'd say there's a little bit of bleed through lol.
I don't know if anyone will get anything out of seeing the backside of the page but here ya go.

Quote:I am looking for someone with great graphics to help me out, I do not have any decent reference shots of any of my toons and I would love it if someone can give me a hand with this. I am bad with lighting and angles and well screenshots lol so if anyone wouldn't mind taking some time to help me that would be awesone. Let em know what days / times are good and I will hook up with you in game, I am on Pinnacle server btw, I have 6 heroes and 2 villians needing pics just a heads up
I can help with that Envee I'm real good with lighting and angles in my screenies.
and it's the least I can do for all the awesome tunes and requests you took on Tuesday
I set my own hours (self employed building custom computers) so pick a time... I'm more of a night owl than morning person though. -
Quote:If it's females you want I am best known for Chloe Macomber my Dark/Rad DefenderBlegh, yeah after this project I need to retire that email account and use my regular one. I'll add you to the list mang. Do you have a character in mind?
and Xllusya my Illusion/Empathy Contoller... depending on whether an angelic do-
gooder type or a naughty witch type would suit the theme of your book better.
If you are really looking to "push the envelope" as it were, and don't mind green skin, then Chloe is probably your gal... just as long as there are no tentacles involved. lol

Quote:Hi,
Sorry for the hassle, but if you've signed up for this, or are going to sign up, please hold off on sending payment. The email I've been using to manage commissions is not the same one that I have associated with my paypal account. I would like to let the list build for a few days, then I'll send everyone a money request directly. In the mean time, please send me your email if I don't already have it.
Thanks!
D'oh! Read the first post in the thread and went to DA and then jumped to paypal and
sent payment already
You really need to post in that journal entry not to send money to that address or post
the one you do want funds sent to lol... soooo who will be receiving money at that address
and do they have an art book too?
Payment snafu, aside I would love to be added to your book.
P.S. OC = Original Character (the c can also stand for creation or content as well)
EDIT: payment canceled successfully so no worries

Quote:Heya Kai, thanks manWow, really nice stuff CR! I'm always impressed with marker work, such an intimidating medium when one stray mark can ruin the whole picture. I don't suppose you are going to HeroCon, hmm?
Way back when I forced myself to start drawing with ink pens only (not just sometimes but all the time,
every picture, for several years) so I'm used to the whole can't undo what you've done... after a while
you just don't think much about it anymore. Markers are just an extension of that.
Hmm don't know that I've ever been to a "con" before... unless you count CES I went there (back in the
90's) a few times on "business" (read: to play all the new games before they came out) I've heard
people mention it on the forums here and seen pics people had done of their heroes from David Nakayama
(hope I got the name right) but honestly I don't know much about it.
Why do you ask?
