I have three quarters so I'll guess "75" Taclobanons

O I C. Thought that remark about "providing some art lovin" because you already had
a Cashoo art done of Polish Princess meant you were going to give it away to someone
else like Caemgen was doing.
Re-reading it now I see you probably were referring to giving it to one
of "your" alts uhhhh... providing art self-lovin' I guess?

Congrats on your start-up man and best of luck on your coming adventure.
I've been down that road before. I had a high paying cushy corporate job for like 8 years
that I had worked my way up to but as the company cut back my division dwindled from
10 down to two and then they moved those two jobs to another city and I was not
willing to follow... and take a pay cut. So, tired of working dead end jobs for years only to
be cut back on the whim of some bean counter somewhere, I struck out on my own and
since I had built my own computer and had people ask me frequently for help with theirs I
thought their was a good opportunity to make money there and started my own business
and haven't looked back since.
It certainly hasn't been easy (Companies like Dell and Walmart coming along and
making computers go from being "profitable" $2,000 machines down to $399 "damn I can
barely buy the parts for that cost" budget specials really rained on my parade)
...some days are great and others well... not so much, but I can set my own hours, sleep
in if I want too and I no longer have to get up at the crack of dawn, fight traffic, wear a
tie and brown nose to the bosses... I'm the boss now and it suits me fine.
Also chances are pretty good I won't fire myself anytime soon either.

Edit: this was my reponse in the other thread just moving it over here for convenience sake.
<--- Is a dude with a dude name and a dude avatar to avoid confusion... and to let the ladies know it's
ok to feel attracted to my pic.
I was saying this in another thread before... we need little "is a dude" (tm) and "is a chick" tags
to put under our avatars on the forums, heck while we're at it they could tag the avatar image
above the BIO in-game too... though that might cut down on the amount free stuffz DJH gets
offered while playing his signature female hero, or LJ or BW or Prof Blues... not to mention actual
girl gamers would probably be hounded by random nerd mobs hmm ... maybe just the forums then heh.
P.S Jophiel does this mean you are going to have your own contest to give away the
Cashoo artz? Or do you just want to award it to me straight up?
It might be easier you know so other people don't get their hopes up again. -

Wohoo grats Jophiel!
A pirate Cashoo piece of the Polish Princess should be epic. -
Heya Scooter nice work on the Statesman pic.
Just as a thought you may want to round off that corner a little bit
it looks like it would be digging into his left wrist the way it is now... or alternatively rotate the helm a bit.
I like where this is going though keep it up.

Cashoo: On the "12th" day of Christmas my Cashoo drew for meeeee! One awesome pic that I won for freeee!
I hope Taclobanon doesn't cry "96" tears at awesomeness of my reference page. -

You know something else occurs to me. You may have something of an untapped advantage in the artz. There are a few artists on here that combine 3-D modeling with 2-D drawing to achieve some pretty impressive stuff (BattleWraith/FD comes to mind and also Doug Schuler and a few others). Since you have some skill at both ever thought of combining them? Like use Poser to get positioning and placement and use digital drawing/painting to overcome the limits of 3D renders. Just a thought.

Quote:Your welcome. You are so correct CR - (Sorry y'all), I went back and added a title for them all, except the Poser stuff - they have names built in
Thanks again CR - Both versions of Knighthawk are designs of mine. #1 was old-school spandex, so I attempted to modernize him a bit more on version #2. He wasn't designed for CoX. My vision of him was more of a cosmic King Arthur with a blade that could cut through anything and generated a protective force field.
Hey ya never know if power proliferation gets crazy enough (or if someone spikes
Positron's coffee) we could get Broadsword/Forcefield scrappers lol.

Wonder if can incorporate the two of them together. hmmmmm....

Quote:My thought was to make it easier for the pickers, as there will be (potentially) 200 of them, and not forI ate 44 Cashoo's and they made me thirsty! Ooops I meant Cashews.
I hear Taclobanon is banned in 35 countries due to the addictive nature of the substance.
Pyro - I have to assume your added numbers were 90 for Cashoo and 88 for Taclobanon, because I don't know what order you wrote that list in. For clarity's sake - lets all put the new numbers after the name. So new numbers to the left and the oldest number is right. The numbers below now reflect this progression.
Updated numbers
Cashoo: 44-66-2-29-19-65-90-60-20-42-88-99-5-6-13
Taclobanon: 35-43-12-17-1-11-88-89-58-42-90-69-2-10-72
knowing who chose what numbers as it only matters if you win and there will only be 2 winners.
Staring at a jumbled list of numbers out of order will make it harder as it goes along as each
person will have to read through the entire strand to make sure their number isn't already chosen... if
they are in numeric order however it's quick and easy to find if the number you want is taken and if you can't
think of a good number just count up from 1 till you find a "gap" and choose something in there.
-
Quote:Right! That's why I suggested it... saves me from doing all the work.OFFICIAL NUMBER UPDATE:
Cashoo: 5-6-13-20-42-60-90-99
Taclobanon: 2-10-42-58-69-72-88-89
(anyone can update right? quote, copy, add, paste...right?)

Pyro
Helps if you keep them in numeric order too.
P.S. Edited to come up with the number tracking to help others but I won't edit from here on out... no winners yet so hope it's ok?

You just leave me in awe.The odd angle is partly from the need to shoot the image off axis so the camera's flash doesn't blow out the details and partly because I noticed that it was much wider than tall but if rotated it could fit inside a square and you could if you wanted to... oh I see you already figured that part out.
Also I had this thought of him perched on a ledge or doorway peering down his nose almost disdainfully at his intended prey before pouncing... must be the feline face making me think cat mentality. Of course I could be waaay off as I know nothing about the character's history or bio but that's what was in my head while sitting in Subway munching on a tuna sub. Wonder if that influenced my choice of subs at all... cats like tuna lol.
Quote:Originally Posted by CaemgenBack in my younger days I had hopes to one day be an artist, actually "majored" in it in high school... But what talent I do have is one of mimicry, not creation. I could copy what I saw, make minor adjustments to things like costume, hair, expression perhaps... But I just couldn't see the image in my head if I tried shifting the head 10 degrees to one side or another. Not and have it look even halfway decent...
I babble on about that just to sort of say that perhaps another reason I tend to praise you more than some others may be that I sort of associate myself with the picking up of the pen after a long time gone kind of thing. I wish I could return to it and produce such amazing results but truth be told my results were never that amazing....
Somethings I found helpful over the years were drawing something from scratch and then use that as a reference and try to draw it "better."
Also when I got a design I liked I would flip the page and try and draw it backwards based on what I could see of the image coming through from the other side.
A really great thing was to have someone else draw the same thing you are drawing. HS was great for that because we would all get the same assignment but seeing what someone else did with the exact same subject matter I would then ask them ok now why did you do it like that etc etc... the whole thing is to get your mind to see the same image many different ways (backwards, seeing your "finished piece" as a reference, through another artists eye) and after enough of this you will find yourself noticing tiny distinctions that you were previously oblivious to.
Finally I forced myself to draw all ink (no cheating with erasable pens) all the time for every drawing for several years (granted a bit extreme) knowing I wouldn't be able to erase a mistake over time made me draw less of them (interestingly this sketch of Caemgen is the first thing I've drawn purely with pencil in decades... I was sitting in Subway and I had temporarily left my Parker pen at the clients house lol).
I guess what I'm saying is just look at art as a path you have to walk... I've been where you are now and just kept walking and now I am where I am today.
Will you ever get to be a great artist... I don't know but if you never start walking, neither will you.
One thing is certain though, you will get further down the path than you are now.
I wonder sometimes how far along the path I would be if I hadn't stopped walking for so many years...
Quote:Originally Posted by CaemgenThanks ever so much for the sketch.
Edit to add: You knew I had to totally make this my avatar... Hope you don't mind I chopped off the border so the image could be a bit bigger.
Nope don't mind in the least, the border is just something I saw that's in "beta" on photobucket so I'm tinkering with it.
I actually have something else I'm playing around with and would like input from the community on, including you Caemgen
as you know the character the best. I'll post the larger versions over in my New Artz WIP's thread probably tomorrow.

Thankyou kindly Starwind I'll be posting up the larger version tomorrow and have something that I would like peoples opinion on (artist types like you included)

Very cool idea and very generous of you Caemgen.
Cashoo: Thunderkissin ninteen sixty "5" yeah! Woww! Fiiiive yeah! wow!
Taclobanon: Caemgen you really ought "2" go take a peek at my Thankyou art thread
P.S. to make it a bit easier people can copy and paste this from my post and just add the numbers they use as a guess
this should get us a winner quicker and not get someone passed over just because they chose a number already guessed.
Numbers taken already are as follows
Cashoo: 5-6-13-
Taclobanon: 2-10-72- -
Quote:ThanksOriginally Posted by CaemgenMaybe not an actual line but I definitely think that if you opened up to commissions you would fill up with requests pretty quickly. I think your artwork is up there with many that I have seen with commission lists on DeviantArt and (at least for me) the fact they're done by hand in marker adds a certain "coolness factor" to them.
Quote:Originally Posted by CaemgenI get the time restraints, the fact your not set up with the latest art tech (and don't even seem to have the old scanner hooked up) as well as that you've got other things going and doing this just for fun. But if/when that all changed I could definitely see you picking up some spare fees with your work if you wanted.
Quote:Originally Posted by CaemgenAll that being said, I hope your not misreading my praise and thinking I'm after a freebie... Definitely not the case. If you ever did one of those "give me your character threads" I would definitely toss one in for your consideration as I have on a couple of others but (just as if you ever did open for commissions I would purchase one) but I'm not looking for any pay off for the praise... I just think your work is worthy of it and the fact that you "came out of nowhere" with your mad skillz and aren't one of the "pros" on the board just make me a bit more likely to give you your props where often I don't neccessarily bother for other works since a bunch of people already have praised it and I am sometimes reluctant to just add praise for praise sake when I have nothing new to offer... (err, did that make sense?)
Quote:Originally Posted by CaemgenI am looking forward to a couple commissions I just set up though... Can't wait to see them and post them
Quote:Originally Posted by CaemgenAnd one final bit of praise... You nailed Caemgen's costume pieces exactly
That's a cool looking mix... it's a lot like something I would do myself sooo....
Quote:Originally Posted by CaemgenAnyway, not looking for freebies so haven't bothered to include a link to reference shots.Ok gotcha... sooooo then I totally shouldn't post the larger version of this... right?
Found myself stuck waiting for a 2 hour diagnostic to run on a clients computer so
I left and took a long lunch break and while eating my Subway I decided to start
doodling... 45 minutes later this was the result.
P.S. If an unsolicited freebie is bothersome for you I'll PM you my paypal info and you can send whatever you feel appropriate but really I just did it cuz I like the look of the character.

Quote:Yarrr don' be worryin' yer black heart o'er it none.... Dagnabbit talk like a pirate day is over isn't it?Thanks Snowjob, I appreciate it! I finally got the nerve to post some stuff!
And I be thankin' ye Captai...I mean thank you very much CR!
I haven't named the pieces, but if your're referencing the 1st and 4th in order from top down, I refer to both of them as Knighthawk. The one I colored in marker was my first approach to the character.
I wasnt sure if I should even include the space city at all, but I thought it was a little different from the norm. Quite honestly, in hind sight, I feel kinda silly that I posted so many. A few of each would have sufficed.
**misses pirate avatar already**
Ahem, nah I wouldn't worry about it too much for your first art posting in a long while I think we can slip it by just this once.
Just one or two pieces posted might work a bit better though as that way everyone is on the same page when talking about your work
and it's not so daunting for people who want to comment but don't know where to start.
Also titles or brief descriptions would help even if its just, Knighthawk #1 #2 and #3.
Speaking of which that's a cool looking character is it one of yours? What kind of powers does he have and was he made for CoH?
-
Not sure what to call the ones without titles but after looking them over more closely the 1st and 4th are my favorites so far!
I also really like the one you did of a city (or some type of futuristic dwelling structure)
Really nice Starwind.

Quote:Lol I didn't ever think of it that way before but yeah if there were such a list,Very nice! Nojitsu's my favorite non-CoH playin' person doin' CoH art.
It's a specialized field.
people who will draw CoH art but don't actually play it, I
agree she would be right up at the top of it.

Here is the reference I gave her for the sake of comparison.
