  1. Did they? While walking through battlefields in war-torn Europe they wore ridiculous mink hats?
  2. Hmm. Test?

Edit: I guess the board software auto-resizes it.

Still slightly too big, but I can handle if everyone else can (which is the real worry, apparently. )

As my friend said, (which others have said about The watchmen) Scott Pilgrim probably would done better as a Mini series than a full length film. I agree you can't do it both ways most times. I'm sure was some way of getting more money out of this...but that probably won't be the lesson taken as someone will be burnt by this ordeal.

That would have been a more appropriate adaptation, but Edgar Wright wanted to make this movie and is really the guy who got it rolling.

If he was willing to do it as a TV series, no problem, but I'm not sure that was the case.

It could have also gotten more viewership, because of the shut-in fans who don't necessarily enjoy getting out to the theaters. They may have just torrented it a day or two later though (unfortunately what I would have had to do if it ended up on HBO).

In any case, Wright's directorial career isn't likely to be derailed by this, thanks to the largely favorable reviews and the praise of such heavy-hitter directors as Quentin Tarantino. Nevertheless, his forthcoming adaptation of Ant-Man had better be a demonstrable success.

Michael Cera, however, desperately needs to reaffirm his box office credibility.
I still have no idea how Ant-Man was optioned. If it's Eric O'Grady's Ant-Man, it could be hilarious, but again, the masses have no idea who that is.

It was indeed awesome. Two people complained it was distracting and annoying. I'll never understand the presumption of others that they can dictate what is presented in a public forum, barring that it meets accepted forum technical parameters. Regardless, I was asked nicely enough, and the "animated signature wars" is not the rock I want to die on.

But I do need something better. Maybe one of you guys can help me. GIANT IMAGE ALERT.

I need that shrunk down to signature size. I only have MS Paint available to me at work, and opening it in that causes it to lose the transparent background and replacing it with an ugly white thing. Can anyone help? There is a Yeti-sized hole in my heart/signature at the moment.

    Edit: NEVER MIND!
  4. Interesting.

I like writing and am ALSO broke.

I think my account goes poof on the 21st though. Can I submit something before the due date? If so, I'll follow along and be back in time for the awarding.

1500 words... What is that page-count-wise? It's been a while since college papers.

"Beginning story" - So these are all origin tales? Just expanded in-game bios then?
  5. I had changed it already...

Unfortunately. The yeti should not be tamed so easily.
  6. Nothing wrong with a cane.

Get one of those awesome ones with a skull on the end of it.
  7. The movie probably does do that. Because I kind of did know what was going on (due to being a fan of the book), I didn't dwell on it.

However, the book never exactly explains why the world is the way it is. It just is. And even then, maybe it... Isn't? Doubt is thrown into the mix that maybe all of the exciting fights and absurd effects only exist within Scott's mind, but it's never confirmed, and the movie certainly didn't take that approach so it's dismissed.

My wife thought it was okay and didn't bother questioning, "Wait, why is he shooting fireballs and flying now?" so I think she accepted it.

I think my official stance is this, though: "Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World" was presented as the best video game adaptation to cinema (that's what many reviewers called it, that isn't my tagline). When playing a video game, you don't question why Mario has such uncanny jumping abilities for a fat Italian plumber, or why a plumber is dating a princess, or why a giant lizard-guy stole the princess. You just set out to save the day.

Scott Pilgrim just wants to save the day as well. He doesn't need your questions, your "How?"s and "Why?"s. All you need to know is that he is the best fighter in the province and too stubborn to know when he is beaten.
  8. There isn't much to get up-in-arms about over that quote. It's very benign and he may have a point.

But don't let it get to you. As far as I know, his game isn't doing so great... I tried it in the Beta and cancelled my preorder I disliked it so much.
  9. My gym (24 Hour Fitness) has TVs to watch while you're on the cardio equipment (which ranges from stair machines (I could only do this for 5 minutes before I had to go to something else; Those things are difficult), treadmills (not recommended for you), eliptical machines (not sure how this will react with your back), some weird rowing machine thing (may be good for you) and two kinds of bikes (should be okay). So you can watch TV while you work out!

Unfortunately, I don't watch much TV so that isn't appealing to me, though I will be going and at least watching the first half of the Saints/Vikings NFL kick-off tomorrow night. My usual regiment is to take an iPod (and mine only carries a charge for 20 mins or so, unfortunately) and a book to read while on the bike or treadmill. I've also thought that I may be able to pull off playing the PSP or this little retro gaming device I have while on the bike - I don't think I'm coordinated enough to play while on the treadmill. So you can always try that if/when you get to that point. I have to get my mind off of the repetitive exercise or I'll go insane.

For every 20ish lb you drop there is allot of spine stress reduced and it can help alleviate back pain and that comes from one of the neurosurgeons I worked with. You do not want to exercise at the cost of spinal injury, end of story. You need to work a way around that and do it without injuring yourself further. It makes it harder for you sorry.
He is, but that is the only valid excuse. And as far as I can tell, everyone has accepted that in their recommendations of low-resistance activity. My dad broke his back 20 years ago and has three back surgeries. He has many of these same problems, but when my mom was looking to lose a lot of weight he got a bike and rode alongside her as she walked and lost a few pounds for himself.

It's going to be harder for Durakken to lose weight. That's why he's going to have to try harder. He has a valid excuse with problematic exercises, but he has no valid excuse for only eating one huge meal a day. "I don't like cooking" is not an excuse, it's a preference that has to change.

Buy a grill. It makes you feel like a man when you burn some (turkey) burgers and have to eat them anyway.
  11. Durakken,

I read the first page and skimmed the second. I think I've heard enough.

Your problem is you. You're just too damned stubborn. Every suggestion you're providing a reason why that won't work for you. You need to find a way to make them work. You have horribly unhealthy habits that have to change for you to even begin losing weight.

And I hope that doesn't come across too harshly - I feel okay saying this to you because I'm the same way. For comparison, I was about 180 lbs and comfortable in 2002. Now I'm about 238 and trying to get back to that point. I go to the gym about three-four times a week and work out for 45 mins to an hour each time, haven't had a regular soda in about 9 years, have cut out almost all fast food, all of my meals come from the grill - usually salmon, chicken or turkey, and...

... It still isn't enough! I'm barely seeing results and I feel like I've made sudden and drastic changes, which is difficult for me because I'm not just a creature of habit, I'm a RAGE-FUELED MONSTROSITY of habit verging on OCD behavior that was never diagnosed (but my wife, who teaches elementary resource sees frightening similarities in my habits with those of her kids).

I still have a ton of stuff to change. I've changed more than I'm comfortable with but I still have an insane way to go to drop 50 lbs. You're looking to lose half of your body mass - You have further to go than I do, you're going to have to make even more drastic changes.

Stop thinking, "Well, this is why I can't do that" everytime you have a notion or get a suggestion for losing weight. Instead think, "Okay, how can I make that happen?" The only way you're going to lose weight is if you change your entire outlook. Unfortunately, the gaming sedentary lifestyle isn't the most conducive to sudden upheavals in your way of life. It's going to have to be gradual, but you're going to have to change at least one thing a day at this rate, some of which you're not necessarily willing to change. You may find that you absolutely have to join a gym to get access to their pools (which sounds like the best option for you from what I've read). To do that, you may find that with your finances you have to do something you're not prepared for, like stop buying DVDs or games or even go without City of Heroes for a while or all of the above. If you really want to change your health, you're going to have to also change your entire life. Good luck.
  12. I didn't put much thought into "why" Scott Pilgrim was being made into a movie. It was just too awesome that it was actually happening. I never considered that it would do huge business, I just hopped that people unfamiliar with the subject matter would see it and like it and want to read the books and learn more about the wacky world of "Toronto" in the mythical "Canada."

So, in that regard, on my personal scale it seems it was a success. Mostly everyone who saw it liked it, aside from outliers like Lastjustice and Golden Girl (if she actually saw it - I couldn't tell/can't recall).

The books are selling out all over the place, so someone is buying them in sudden bursts. So, I think the movie was a success for the author, but not necessarily a success for the actual filmmaker and studio.

Also, the game is fantastic. So hopefully that drew some in.

In the end, I saw it and enjoyed it. It sounds like the majority of people who bothered to see it enjoyed it, I just wish more people had gone to see it so I could potentially applaud the majority for a change.

Also, aswelltooalso, as to in the regarding of the TF, this is a new badge, isn't it? So I guess I could bring anyone. But I'm an XP-***** so it'll probably be a non-50. All exemplaring non-50s get XP now, right?

Also, also, I have to pick my wife up from the airport and leave by about 5. This doesn't take 4-5 hours, does it? It is an improvement over the old Posi TF... Right?
  15. Those are awesome.

I may be soon slowing down each and every page I post on with a new animated signature courtesy of that site.
  16. Whyyyyyy is there another thread on this?

I just want to forget that I'm allllll alone in this world and buy the blu-ray when it releases.

  18. I'll sign up. My wife is out of town, so now is as good 'a time as any.

I'm not sure who I'll be bringing, however. So just send me a tell in-game @ChrisMoses. I may figure it out before then though, if so, I'll let you know.

    Merit Help

I'm looking for as much information about the Merit System as I can find. It was implemented just about right before I took a break, so now I'll be delving into it for the first time soon. I'm used to the old "Do a lot of TFs and hope for a good random recipe at the end" system, so that's what I'm coming from.

I just want to make sure that I'm making the best usage of the system to outfit my characters both as they level up and at 50.

So, I'm sure there are good guides somewhere here, if someone could please direct me towards them.

My specific qualms are mostly just: What is the most cost-efficient way of utilizing the system? And are Merits transferable to different characters using the new e-mail attachment system?

    Thanks.
  20. Some stuff I like and you'd do well to like as well:

Sigur Ros, Album Leaf, Balmorhea, Explosions in the Sky, Modest Mouse, Bon Iver, Volcano Choir, Cee-Lo (half of Gnarls Barkley), Beck, She & Him, Broken Social Scene, Eminem (have you heard of him? ), My Sick Uncle (dunno if you can find this - It's a guy who mashed together the 500 Days of Summer soundtrack with some Little Wayne songs; it is superb), Sufjan Stevens, The Avett Brothers, Alexi Murdoch, Athlete, Ben Folds, Death Cab for Cutie, The Postal Service, Flight of the Conchords, Jenny lewis/Rilo Kiley, Jimmy Eat World (older stuff - Clarity in particular), Josh Ritter, Karen O (the Where the Wild Things Are soundtrack is phenomenol), Jonsi (Sigur Ros singer solo), Kirby Krackle (songs about video games, comics and nerdity in general), Olafur Arnalds, Pete Yorn (his duet CD with Scarlett Johansson is quite enjoyable), Regina Spektor, Radiohead, Ugly Casanova, Vampire Weekend (really just Contra), and finally Wilco.

    Enjoy forever!

    Okay, I'll do that tonight.

Is it as simple as it sounds? What am I changing them to?

Sorry, not at home so I can't visualize.
  22. Jeremy - It seems that my situation was just a temporary fix - It's defaulted back to whatever has it freezing whenever you tab out.

Er, Starcloud, I know that it runs it just find, but I mention a specific issue there... You're saying you don't have it?
