  1. Gratz Rowr, what one did you get, and what size?
  2. Back from vacation, but swamped. One of the other people at my work quit while I was away, so my workload went way up. I will try to find time to get some stuff done soon, but vacation and work has me a little out of the grove.

    Pep art trade?

    sorry pep take your time.
  4. Laso's Hex, and pulls back, now no more giggling.
  5. Did not see demon, consider it added after kat.
  6. I big thing that helped me understand what was under the skin (and not something most people will get to do or likely even want to do) was anatomy classes in college biology and beyond. Really helped me see the different layers in a tactile 3d sense. I know kinda gross.

Yes, use the books which all start with a section about drawing basic shapes first then building. Look at some of the sequential stuff the great artists here have posted. Early stuff is very sketchy basic shapes that are then worked into form, and detail added (ok sometimes you feel like the shape is beaten into form). As for it looking different then in the book, so what, your style should not be a clone of the how to author. The steps are tools the style is your own.
  7. Personally never been a tracer, but I did start drawing by coping comic books. So not a trace persay but they were direct copies almost line for line. I think tracing can help, but yes depends on your still. For me the little more trial and error of coping works better.
  8. Ok time for self reflection a bit and self assesment. As posted in the op I am doing this for pracice and to get better. Now I would love to get some constructive critisism from those willing to give it. Please give me some feedback!!

    Ok now some sef assesment..

My main point to work on
    1. Faces, faces, faces. I am ok at getting the parts in the right place but feel they lack personality sometimes. I also need work from different angles, and perspectives. The face grabs you, mine need to do that better.
    2. Shading and lighting. This I have been starting to work on.
    3. Finding a style. I feel what I have been doing is very typical almost derivative. Trying to find my own voice more to make my stuff stand out some.
    4. Whole peices. Most of these are starting points nowhere near complete.
    5. Variety in pose.
    6. Bringing it all together. Each piece has stuff I like and dislike. Unfortunately each picture has problems, some minor some moreso. Really need to get everything to gel 100%, not have this felling of ok that looks really good except for that shadow, or that leg position etc. The difficult part is the problem area changes so hard to focus on a specific thing.

I am sure I could list more but want to state a few thing I feel have improved.

1 Position and form. Most of the figures feel much more solid and more dynamic now.
    2. Faces while far from perfect have gotten more expressive and individual.
    3. Getting a better feel for composition.
    4. Getting more consistant.
    5. A big one for me personally. HAving the currage to post in the first place.

Ok that is kinda my self report card at this point. Please add more critique and comment. Finding out what others are seeing will help me alot.

    Thank you!

Photoshop Elements is also a nice progrm with about 85% of full photoshop. As a bonus it is about $100 as opposed to $600 or so.

    Pep art trade?

Pep U can pick up some very nice tablets for 150 to 275 range depending on what you want/need. I nice bonus to the Wacom tablets is they include Photoshope Elements 3.0 (1 generation old), and a few other nice programs. The list price of the programs included (they are older generation full versions btw not stripped down demo stuff u normally get) is 150 to 200 to buy separately. Plus Wacom owners get discounts on new programs too!!! (and they are fairly generous discounts). Soooo long story short, you would get a tablet plus a nice program upgrade at the same time. Think about it.
  11. Wow the softer and odder and well scarier side of AOT.
Great job Graver, let me know when I can borrow a little bit of your talent. I will give it back I promis, really!!
  12. OK now I remeber why I called this thread I will regret this!!

Ok so 13 is my lucky number. I really will try and get though this, but warning........

I am leaving on vaction on the 16th and wil not return till the 23rd

I may try and get a few done on the plane, but do not count on it. This also means the big project is temporarily on hold till my vaction is over, 11 x 17 bristal board does not travel well at all.

Thanks for your understanding. I really want to get these done at some point in my life.

    Sanguine: WIP

Sarrate you were dead on. Something was bothering me about the pic making her look pudgy and a little off balance. So as per your observations the thigh is thinner and the left leg is significantly longer. Made a big big differance. Thanks, here is the rescan (sorry about the scanner greyness and the obvious tiling).

    Sanguine again

    Thank you.

And so everybody knows what the ingame character looks like here she is...

    Sanguine: WIP

Testing out working on the new paper, and at the increased sized before moving on to the announced project, by using a more familiar subject. Please make comments and observations. It was different working at this scale, and I know my shading etc still needs works (this is partially shaded), but trying to get better.

    Thanks all!!

  15. I am striving to get more of a flow going, I even broke down and purchased an anatomy for artists book today. I am also starting to take longer per work to add some shading into each piece now ( I know it slows things down alot, but looks alot better). Plus I have been tearing up alot more stuff half done that I may have posted at the start. Lilac was actually take 3. Still at the point where I finish something and always find mutliple things that could be better or does not work 100%, but if you ever think something is perfect you never get better.

So I am now trying to incorporate more muscle tone, shape etc in. It is a learning process, and I really am glad for any comments and the fact that so many of you have stuck with me so far!!!

I need to slow down in general on each piece, getting the perspective right, thinking about pose, shading etc. The tutorials that show how to build from ground up really work (who woulda thunk it. )

I will try and work up a que over then next few days.

    TY all!!!
  16. Thanks for you commenst kat, It took alot of guts for me to start posting stuff, but constructive critisism is why I did it. I was actually trying to exagerate the perspective some, so if it comes off as a bit too much that is something to work on.
  17. After a few day here we go again...

    Dark Lilac
  18. I have not dropped of the forums hopefully will back with a few soon. I had an almost complete Skyraker and Lilac but just was not happy with them after I sept on the sketch. They will be the next up.

    Inking practice!

Like I said I use a combination, I do use pen pressure and tilt with the tablet for short lines and fine details. I only use the path method with very long sweeping lines if I am making them very jittery.

And looking too mechinical< i know exactly what you mean. The 1st ps inked item I did before I got the tablet (I still have limited inking experience) and looking back at it compared to the one I am now doing with the tablet there is a hugh diffence. The earier looks way too clean and kinda cold.

    Inking practice!

From the limited inking I have done on my new tablet, I have found some of the same difficulities you described with doing it by hand. Go slow you get some jaggies, go fast much smoother but impercise. What I have been doing and seems to work ok for me (I tend to draw in a very short strokes so not great at long sweaping lines) is using paths and ajusting pressure, fade etc for long lines, then hand drawing small fine details using the tablet. Drawing by tablet with the nib I have feels kinda like a felt tip pen.

But I am very inexperienced but this is what I have discovered so far.
