    What exactly are you asking about, I suppose? Will the powersets work? From what you've given as a description - which is kind of sketchy - well... it sounds like it.     I'm actually looking for alternative AT/Set suggestions, given the overall theme and abilities of the base character. Barring Controllers and Khelds, anyhow, since I don't normally enjoy playing those. I *might* have fun with her as a Grav/Ice Dom - but just in case I don't... it'll be nice to have ideas to fall back on; and I havn't had many of them myself.

    Does that make more sense?

    The art came before the in-game version; and the former isn't nearly as good as the latter - frusteratingly!

    To put it in brief; she's an... interdimensional scholar, of sorts. I like to borrow the term Planeswalker. It's not *quite* teleportation - but it's close enough for game mechanic terms - using minor magics and an innate ability to traverse the roads across time and space itself to visit dimension after dimension in order to expand her knowledge and gain new experiences.

    I went with a Gravity Control/Ice Dominator for now; figuring that the Gravity powers were reasonably close to, say, minor manipulation of that temporal grey area she's so familiar with - while Ice, colored just so, made me think less of Ice and more of... Void Shards?

    ... So I haven't quite finished pondering this through just yet. I'll get there!

    But my experience with Gravity has always been sketchy, at best - and Control sets aren't usually my cup of bubbly. Thus, if the Dominator doesn't work out, I'll probably look into things that aren't a Controller or a Dom.

    Any thoughts?

    Well, I'm trying to cook up something that fits the background and ability of the existing character. I couldn't just give her a broadsword and super-fast reflexes and call it fitting! :P

    As far as more art goes - I was planning to! At the moment, though, most of the art I've bought is of characters that don't exist inside of CoX. Once I buy more of my CoX characters, though, you can bet I'll be sharing the good stuff.

    This is precisely my own conundrum, at the moment. Perhaps for others, too. That very motivation is dwindling - almost gone; and you know me more than most - I am.... was.... an altohoic extraordinaire!

The old sets are still mostly the same as they've been for years (the changes to Fire Armor got me to make another one at last; and more of that would be wonderful), and the two 'new' sets in I18 wore themselves out by the time I19 hit. There isn't a single combination in any AT that I would want to do (I can never do Stone Armor - obscures the character too much) that I havn't done one or twice already. The task-forces are mostly the same (more Posi-style revamps, please?) - and the story arcs are as awful as they've always been (Lookin' at you, Hero-side!).

    Praetoria was a wonderful thing... for a week or two. It fell flat the instant I hit 20 for the first time and left all that grand and entertaining new content only to realize that the next 30 levels were going to be exactly as they've always been. Nothing I had spent the last 20 levels doing was going to change anything (except, perhaps, a line or two of dialogue in -all- the content; plus the McIntyre revamp); nor was it going to be revisited (until, perhaps, the Trials - which appear to be just the same regardless of where you're from). Unless I wanted to spend the rest of my time retiring characters at 20, it really didn't mean anything in the bigger scheme of things.

    So, when the Incarnate system is done and finished - when we've had all our Issues focused around just that - when I've hit the top and gotten everything I want from every Slot... I worry that I'll have nothing to do but look at the creator screen, realize that my existing characters can go no further; and that there's still nothing new for new ones, and say 'Nah.'

    I make one small contention here:

    You could, in theory, select between most of the hairstyles already found in most of the hats; for most of the hats. Since many of the hats (all of the older ones, I believe) share the same hat/head border, any of the hairstyles used for those hats could be ported just as they are to the similar ones. Edge cases would need small adjustments; but it would still be nice to simply have the option to choose between existing... hat-hairs?

    Who wants to be forced into a crew cut just to wear a beret, for example?

    On a broader note... I agree. The Costume Creator -is- stagnating; and it's depressing. As are the choices being made, wherever they're being made, regarding what pieces we -do- get from rare time to rare time. Take the Animal Pack, for example. This would have been the -perfect- time to throw in a few collars that aren't that chunky piece of ugly known as the 'Spiked Collar' - or any other number of pieces that fit the theme.

    Besides, don't we have -enough- stylized sets that don't always (sometimes never) play well with other pieces outside that given set?

    And let's not get started on older, or just plain obvious options. Where's our headset? Our cigar for females? Our pipes?

    The comment was made in the PAX interview that 'clothes' aren't heroic enough. Now, I don't know if this was a joke, tease, or a serious answer at all - but it brings a thought to mind: We don't make our characters to look heroic - or even villainous! (Bear with me a second!) We make our characters, first and foremost, to look like our characters: whether -that- be heroic, villainous, stripperific, civilian, beastly, or what-have-you. Right now, City of Heroes is still the best at this - especially if you're just coming into the game and havn't had years upon years of time to tinker with every possible combination you could dream up. If you -have- had such time, however... things begin to look rather bleak.

    Playing a character in a good game is fun. Playing -your- character in a good game is doubly so. I was going to go somewhere with that, I think, but lost my line of thought somewhere.

    Wishful thinking time!

    Personally, I could be no happier than if I'd had a whole Issue dedicated to a grand expansion of this game's (in my opinion) single, greatest asset - something I would have never given this game a glance without: it's costume creator.

    Complete with:
    More armor.
    More jackets.
    More clothes.
    More hairstyles.
    More faces.
    More hats.
    More footwear.
    More gloves.
    More accessories.
    More texture variety.
    More helmets/helmet accessories.
    More weapons.
    ... You get the idea. More of everything for every taste, I say.

    Will it happen? Probably not. It certainly isn't what -everyone- wishes for. But I like to sit here and dream.

  10. Warning: Unrealistic Idealism to follow!

    Ideally? I'd -love- an end-game system that not only encourages me to play my 50s for a while; but -also- opens up opportunities for new characters. Perhaps something along the lines of reaching the ultimate in Incarnate with a particular set (or set combination) opening up some sort of... modification for new characters. Maybe a passive buff; or a full-on power. An inherent, even? Who knows? Costume pieces - archetypes - powersets - things like that might also be good (and something more than just unlocking Epics at 20!); but they'd need to be awfully impressive to warrant going through a whole end-game system to get! That's just a thought, though, and not anything specific I'd like. This is the part where I loop back to what I said originally about encouraging 50 play, in addition to providing new opportunities for the altoholic in me. ANd let's face it - altism is what CoX is good at!
  11. It's the journey, for me - it always has been, and it probably always will be.

    I worry about just how long 'always' really translates to for people like me, though. For me, the fun lies in playing new characters - in taking new sets and new combinations through the familiar ride of leveling to see their unique take on the experience. With all this focus on the Incarnate system as of late, it feels more and more like the pre-50 journey is being set in stasis for a little while. No proliferation - no sets - no creator improvements... just a task-force here and there that will quickly become ho-hum ordinary as any other along the way. I remember being so woefully disappointed when Going Rogue came into being. A whole new starting zone! I loved it. Every minute of it. New stories, new people, new places... and good ones, at that! And then I hit level 20 and saw the grand finale of all my efforts. Nothing has ever been more depressing than walking through that portal and arriving in Talos, only to realize that that was it. From that mission onward, I was going to be traversing the exact same grind I had been for so many years already. It really sucked the spirit I'd had up until that point.

    I like the Incarnate system, that said. I really do! It gave me a reason to play my 50s - something I had never before done. Yet I can't help but wonder what the point of it truly is. We grind task-forces and trials, gain more power, and finally reach the top of the 'end-game' when we achieve our last Incarnate boost - whatever, or whenever, that might be. .... And then what? What do we use all those gains for then? Unless the Devs come up with something creative for the penultimate Trial, it seems to me like we'd be exactly where we were before the Incarnate system ever came into being: at an impasse. We can go no further, and yet there's nothing new below us to enjoy, either. The to-50 grind will be as it always has been, perhaps - and the post-50 'end-game' will have reached it's own wall. With little to show for it!

    Perhaps I look too far ahead, though. Noone can say for certain what will or won't come of this recent focus - but between I19 and the coming I20, I'm beginning to lose hope in seeing anything anytime soon that will appeal to folk like myself.

  13. Subjective Feedback: Color me horribly dissapointed with this pack. The heads, feet, and animations are all fantastic - and, as someone said above, I see a -lot- of potential uses for the Beastly Rage aura's 'Breath' effect... but this would have been the perfect chance to add in some honest-to-goodness collars (that spiked clunker is okay, but what if one wants a non-spiked one; or a dog collar? Or, better yet... a tracking collar?), ears, and other non-beast-specific but definitely-beast-friendly pieces to the game. Collars especially.

    Someone asked earlier what we might consider a male-to-female trans... I'd consider them, personally, whatever they asked me to consider them. I figure; they had the courage to go through with something so drastic despite what others might think simply because it felt right for them, and I just can't help but hold a deep respect for that.

    I have, in a way, made up my mind about most of this. But that came somewhere halfway through the thread, before it became more a thing of questioning motives. I've been getting a fair amount of PMs in-game since this whole thing went up - so there's an awful lot of discussion not seen here that... might have actually been helpful to have included somewhere, now that I think about it.

    The honest-to-goodness reason for the tag? Habit; and filtering. Elsewhere, I used such a thing as, basically, a way of 'fishing' for the kind of partner I wanted. I figured - if someone could look at that tag; and then pointedly look beyond it to the rest of the character that lie beneath it... and still decide they very much wanted something a bit more in-depth... then I might have had a match! If, however, someone decided that the tag was reason to ignore the rest of the character - either as a turn-off or as a means for cheap fun.. then they weren't what I was after.

    But simply porting that same style to CoX wasn't going to cut it! I'll admit - I started with eRP. Soon, that wasn't enough to tickle my brain - but the nature of the place was still the same. I had to push and shove against the norm to find the story and thoughtfulness I was after. Here... I'm starting to get the impression that it's almost the opposite: that story and thoughtfullness are the norm, and I have to somehow push into that with these kinds of characters.

    Or... something. Facewafflekeyboardnow. I'll try something more coherent in the afternoon.

It seems like the best solution would actually be a little warning along the lines of 'Please read the Verse page before planning on anything in-depth!' - and then include whatever is deemed to be the best way of putting it over yonder. But that kind of assumes actually coming up with a Verse page for each character... I spent hours on Eri's and I still havn't found the energy to go back and give it a second look! ... Is there a thread for that kind of help somewhere? Although that's not ideal for an 'at-a-glance' summary; which is all most folk in any group are likely to give things at first.

    None of those scenarios have any relation to what your character is carrying between her legs, or whether or not the player has any knowledge of what your character is carrying between her legs.
    And this is going far too into something that wasn't, initially, the idea. Regardless of what my reasons are - and I probably should have said that in the first place, rather than try and explain things... Goodness knows that's a sure-fire way to confuse even myself!... I am set - permanently, immovably set - on the idea of finding some way to indicate what I want to indicate without being overtly sexual about it.

    But this might be a better dissuasion: Yes, I am, in fact, what you'd call a 'snob'. I see it more as sticking to strictly what I enjoy without looking low on folk who prefer things I don't... but, fleh. Debating that sort of thing never works out very well for anyone!

    Though I should probably add... That 'light banter' RP.. the casual, fast-paced content.. I'm not looking for a tag for that. I can do those; but they aren't my main goal; nor what I enjoy the most. As has been said - it's not needed, there. But the more in-depth, time-consuming ventures - the lengthy developments I really aim for. Those kinds of things, I do want a tag for. These are the kinds of things that require a heavy amount of investment from the get-go; and nobody wants to make those kinds of efforts only to have them explode and dissolve later on because of something that could have been noted in the very beginning. A tag is just a simpler way of doing that without telling every single person who express interest "Oh hey, by the way..." - which gets enough sour reactions in it's own right.

I like to sit back, take my time, and get.. well.. wordy, with it. I don't think this is something the faster-paced folk are going to like, so I don't really mind saving them the trouble entirely if it means an easier time finding the minority I want. It's the main reason I just plain didn't consider this issue; or consider RPing, for that matter; for so many years. I'm not sure what I want and what's available are really a comfortable mesh.

    Hmh.. I don't know if I'd call it 'good' or 'professional', though... I see it as a stylistic choice, more than anything. Poor choice of words on my part again!

    Quite plainly, I've met enough folk who -don't- assume this whole 'Label = stereotype' thing to know better. If someone wants to feel that way - all right and well enough. But they're not the sort of person I'm looking for or catering to, either.

    For me, this is a "simple" matter of Male, Female, Inter. For the most part, nobody labels 'Male' and 'Female' - they don't have to. It's usually a safe assumption based on appearance alone. But if it weren't? It might be nice to know. In this case, this isn't something that can be assumed on outwards appearances. Thus, it requires something if you want people to know; and I do want people to know. If they want to make a bunch of assumptions about it; then fie on them. The best I can do is find a happy medium somewhere.

    Edit: Though, perhaps that's not quite entirely accurate, either. This would be agood time to step away from the conversation for a few and do some thinking, methinks.

    Humh. How to put this in a simpler light...

    The kind of RPers I like best are the folk who can read such things as a 'label' and then act as if it didn't exist, in-character. I like to believe that most good RPers are of this sort - and those are the kind of people who, I feel, are also the most likely to provide what I'm after. On the same token, not all of those same people are going to enjoy the nature of the character - why, they might even find it downright disgusting and offensive. Then, as a means of avoiding potential out-of-character conflict later on down the road as one person might discover something that completely drives them away on an out-of-character basis - even after hours upon hours of involvement - it's worked best, for me, to simply have it out up-front before anyone becomes involved.

    ... I'm not quite sure that was it. Does that make any more sense?
