A friend just pointed me at this site about a Masquerade ball - and I thought you all might find it neat - this link is to the Gallery page for the 2007 ball. LOTS of cool, elaborate costumes artists might use for reference:

I didn't see ANY here that were NSFW - but if YOU see any, let us know! -
Dang! That's a pretty great pic!

Those're some great character sketches there, Alex! I looked at your site ( http://www.imagesbyalex.com ) - there's some really nice work on there, too! Looking forward to seeing more! Keeping watch for when the queue opens up again.
EDIT: added word for clarity -
I was in Borders today and chanced to see this very cool book in the "Bargain Book" area for only $4.99!!
"Foul Play" - The Art and Artists of the Notorious 1950s E.C. Comics by Grant Geissman
272 pages, with LOTS of gorgeous and horrifying color art from artists such as: Al Feldstein, Harvey Kurtzman, Johnny Craig, Jack Davis, Wallace Wood, Joe Orlando, John Severin, Reed Crandall, and more!
There's a goodly amount of text, too, with history and tales of those days. There's examples of sketch work and color-keying, gag art the artists did for each other in the shop, work they did before and after their E.C. work, and it looks like they have a complete comic story for each artist. (although, several greats do get mushed in together near the end in a "The Best Of The Rest" section - like Marie Severin, Alex Toth, Basil Wolverton, and Joe Kubert.)
All in all - a GREAT art book from a savory time in comics.
EDIT: here's the cover pic
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...TL._SS500_.jpg
funny - Amazon still has it for $19.95 (as low as $9 for used) - and it appears to have a list price of $29.95 but Borders had a stack of 'em for $4.99 -
While I'm NOT a copyright lawyer, I DO know for a fact that many artists do paid commissions of copyrighted characters with no problems. Even some really big name artists (Like Bob Layton and Frank Brunner to name a couple) do it. Its most likely going to be fine as long as they don't (as has been stated by others) sell posters, t-shirts, comics, - that sort of stuff.

As a friend used to say : "Dassa naahz - vera, vera naaaaaahz!"
-
Wow! Dig the progression from thumbnail sketch to final color of that Danger Girl poster!

Thanks, btw it's light on purpose...
Actually it was sketched on computer with grey tones, using an almost white for the underlying body shapes, then a darker midtone grey for the armor details and the darkest grey for a quick outline.
The final will be a lot cleaner and in black of course...

Hey - thats cool. Good way to do it, too. Can't wait to see more! -

I decided to throw out the COH armor.. I figured why limit myself, I'd rather design my own ornate armor, based on the arrows, and Celtic crosses... so this is a preliminary revamp.

Although the sketch is a bit light and hard to see (not a critique, just an observation) - what I CAN see looks pretty darn good! Lookin' forward to seein' it progress! -
Check the Pinned (stickie-ed) thread at the top of this forum entitled "The Network - A resource " by Thor's Assassin
In it, among other things, you'll find "commissionable artists" and all kinds of fan art goodness. -

There's an Event Queue now...Soul Train is at the top of that one

So - what's the difference between the "event Queue" and the OTHER queue? -

whoa color me impressed i thought the jump from 9 to 10 was holy cow, the finished deal is sweet!
kinda hesitant about metal huh? Guess it's a good thing I didn't ask for a metal wearing character on any of my requests. lol

Hestitant is a nice word, if it were only that... in my case I'm more of, I know I can do it, but I don't enjoy doing it, because it takes me personally too long... And since I get antsy and want to work on someone else, I start to feel guilty. Kobolt1 waited a week for this one, he could have had it in 2-3 days if not for the metal.
Thankfully with each one I learn a little bit more, and eventually I hope, it will become second nature.

oooo.. Hmmm, sounds like you just need to force yourself to practice Metal a lot more. ..and you know what? We could all help you by pulling out all our most metal characters and commissioning you to draw them until you get really, really comfortable with metal! It woudl be like an avalanche of metal love!(relax, I'm kidding!
)
Still, a very cool piece! -
Very, very nice! All that hard work really paid off!
Great piece, LJ -
da-yam, that's nice work there, man!
...but, if you never got paid and had disagreements with the publisher - should I order it from them? -
Very nice! Sharp & clear lines/inks - very tight. This one's gonna be great!

And very, very reasonable prices....
I had someone who already wanted to color it before it was even done, so I guess they're a fan of his line work, too.
[/ QUOTE ]
He does some very nice work ...but, in his journal entry "New Beginnings" he indicates that he's closing his commissions store and looking to become a publisher .
