It undermines the Perpetual Now that the mainstream comic universes seem to enjoy.

Also, if you think mutants are allegories for various subculture groups, it has a wonderful scent of unintentional dark, dark irony.
    Note "one of the most."

Also, I can respect more what Morrison was trying to do with X-Men by having more mutants crop over the globe. I mean, it's firmly cemented in X-Men lore that mutants are the successors to humanity and more people will start manifesting powers. Actually bringing an element of that into the universe rather than have it as some far off future/alternate reality event was getting old, as was the oppression of a minority theme. X-comics were simply too stagnant.

Eventually this hit Wanda. "Bad luck, how could a power give other people bad luck?" So, someone got stuck trying to come up with a more realistic interpretation of her power. What they decided was that she was actually altering history, unconsciously altering time so that a guy forgot to clean his gun this morning and it jams up or creating an alternate universe where he didn't tie his shoes causing him to trip. Someone took this and ran full on with the alters reality until the interpretation was used to the extreme of Disassembled and House of M.

But, hey? At least its more realistic.
And she warped it so that Doctor Strange realized there was no such thing as chaos magic, even though he's probably had like dozens of adventures where he fought against someone wielding chaos magic?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the whole Disassembled thing way beyond what Wanda was shown to be capable of before? As in she used to just make someone trip on their own feet or make a gun misfire? I'm not much of an Avengers reader (more of a JLA guy) so I don't know for certain, but I believe that was one of the main criticisms against the story.

Also, that it was one of the most obvious and inelegant ways of undoing the previous writer's work in the industry that decade. Ahem.

Superman was a baby, not enough attachment to Krypton other than desires to discover his roots.
And yet he still managed to lose more in the explosion of Krypton than Hal Jordan did in the destruction of Coast City.

Hal, though... there you got a guy that had "the strongest weapon in the universe" and on top acknowledged by most as "the best green lantern". It's harder to take loss when you are standing in such a high pedestal, it would be impossible to accept you don't have the power to bring them all back. That was the thought process in the issue I remember reading, the point where he snapped and just attempted to amass all the power of the entire corps for himself.
Well, the fact that you could beat him to death with a U-turn sign should have humbled him enough to know that he couldn't do anything he wanted without consequence.

The thing is that I could probably name at least 20 superheroes off the top of my head that have lost more than Hal Jordan and yet did not go genocidal. It just doesn't make sense.

That's the risk you take when you agree to wear the green.

I mean, John Stewart failed to stop the destruction of the entire planet but you don't see him trying to murder everyone.

J'onn J'onnz, Starfire, and Superman all lost their homeworlds but you don't see them trying to wipe out existence.

    Exactly.

Like how Batman went genocidal after the earthquake in Gotham.

Or Nightwing beat all of his friends senseless after Bludhaven got nuked.

Or when Green Arrow wiped out a universal police force after a series of bombs devastated Star City.

Or when Pariah tried to rewrite history when he failed to prevent the obliteration of eleventy billion universes.

A character that faulters but manages to redeem himself is far more interesting to read than one that is just perfect. This is particularly true of a character like Hal that is known for his arrogance.
Totally unlike Hal suddenly wanting to destroy all of existence because he couldn't prevent the destruction of his city.

but i also appreciated what Hal had done for the grene lanter over the years, and I thought his fall was incredible. a person based on sheer willpower whose will finally broke upon the death of all that was precious to him.

and then he had a brilliant and final redemption as the spectre.

and then they ruin it all with a copout. oh it wasnt his fault it was the drugs, booze, evil yellow fear inducing parasite etcetc.
Well Hal Jordan went from good to evil faster than Mannequin Skywalker so yeah...

    New Rig Question

The motherboard is really the component that's going to be the backbone of your rig. Its capabilities will determine your options as far as essentially every other component goes.

And are you looking to use more than one video card in the future through SLi? If not, you will probably be able to find a cheaper version of the motherboard with fewer PCI-E slots. Three of them seems a tad overboard if you don't plan to actually use them.

    New Rig Question

You could try going to the NewEgg forums and asking around too. There's all sorts of guides for price ranges and background on components and such there.

    New Rig Question

I wouldn't suggest Alienware. You'll end up overpaying.

I remember when I decided to get a gaming PC I initially thought that Alienware was the way to go, but after I did research on the components and added up what it would take to get a good gaming rig, I compared the sum with an equivalent rig from Alienware and I was pretty shocked.

I was relatively patient in that I went to NewEgg and waited for the prices on my selected components to go down. In the end, I saved about $1,000 (total cost vs an equivalent rig by Alienware) by building the rig myself and waiting for price drops.

Since I did all that research and such about a year ago, my advice may be outdated, but there's guys on here like FatherXmas who keep up on that stuff and have PC build guides for various price ranges.

    *EDIT*

Oh, and try to be patient and wait for Black Friday deals. Try to get the most bang for your buck!
  13. You should be able to pick a compressed air can for about $5 at Wal-Mart, Best Buy, or an office supply store.

Just make sure to look for ones that are moisture-free.
  14. Well, I logged in this afternoon and tried fiddling with the in-game graphics settings in an attempt to isolate the setting that's causing such a massive drop in FPS.

I tried turning each option that opens up when the advanced graphics setting is enabled down to their lowest setting individually and the problem persisted.

It was only when I disabled advanced graphics and set the general graphics down to Minimum that the lag spike didn't occur when AE objects/characters were animated.

Fortunately, it doesn't require me to restart the game whenever I make this big shift in graphics settings. But I do hope that the devs insert an option into the game that allows the user to set AE object/character animations to default to on or off in case this becomes an issue for more people.

  16. I've recently started to get back into the game after several months of merely using the forums, and I decided to try my hand at the Architect Entertainment feature to create a story arc of my own.

It's a nice new feature and it's fun to put something out there for everyone to see, but I seem to be having an issue during the AE story arc creation process, and it's one that's discouraging me from using the AE system.

Every time I add a character or object to one of my missions, I experience a huge graphical lag spike that appears to be tied to the animations of the characters and objects.

I've found that I can stop the lag by getting to game to catch up to my cursor movement and hovering it over the character/object until the "Stop Animation" text turns green or I'm sure that the game has caught up. Then I hold down the mouse button for about 3-5 seconds and release it without moving the cursor away.

Even though there's a way around the lag, it becomes an issue whenever I add a new object/character or open the AE editor to edit my story arc, because the object/character animations are on by default. Essentially, this means I would have to go through the mouse button hold process for each object/character all over again.

Is this an issue for anyone else? And is there a way I can set the AE object/character animations to off by default?
  17. The title says it all. We get more of everything else as we level up. We get more powers. We get more Inspiration slots. We get more Salvage slots. We get more Recipe slots. We get more costume slots.

So why don't we get more Enhancement inventory slots?

Perhaps we could go from holding 10 (at Level 1) to 20 (at Level 25) to 30 (at level 35).

We could even incorporate the arrow navigation feature that's already used to go through the trays of powers.

It's just a small QoL suggestion that would allow us to make more Enhancement purchases in one go when we upgrade at those mid- to high-levels.
  18. Did anyone else find this mission from Sister Airlia in Cimerora ridiculously hard?

I mean everything was find up until the point I defeated the captor mob that was holding Ghost Widow, but I was thinking, "I've got a signature AV with me. It'll be fine, right?" Wrong. Not only do a half dozen Longbow minions pop up right next to us, but a Longbow Warden and a named Longbow Ballista Elite Boss.

Still, I thought having Ghost Widow with me would balance things out and she'd own everything in sight while I offered support. The EB put me in a Detention Field which seemed to last forever. GW wiped out the minion mob that popped up but as I'm sitting there with the Warden and Ballista whiffing at me, I look over and notice she's got no damn endurance.

Finally I popped out of the Detention Field and get ready to do some damage. With a Boss and Elite Boss still in play, I pop a big Purple, a Yellow, and a big Red inspiration. Only apparently the EB's Force Field's are ridiculously potent because I can't hit anything at all, even after popping the Yellows, having two Accuracy SOs in every attack, popping Build Up, as well as picking up Combat Training: Offensive.

I figure I can at least hold their attention while GW gets some endurance back since neither mobs are really getting hurt, but even with my defensive powers in place and inspirations active, they start getting big shots in. Luckily, I had about five big Greens as well as a few small Purples. I pop a few of each to stay alive and still they keep hitting me while I can barely scratch them, and GW still has no endurance.

Eventually I'm defeated and then GW all of a sudden has endurance and I'm thinking, "Oh well, at least I get to watch the signature AV avenge me." Only it takes about 15 seconds for GW to get defeated as well.

    So what gives?

  20. Good news, everyone!

I have a small break between classes for the next week or two so I'll actually have a chance to do some more updating!
  21. For **** sake, does no one over at the Heroes set know how to actually choreograph a fight scene?
  22. I was going off what I could confirm from a combination of InStockTrades, Wiki, and Amazon.

It said there were actually like 39 volumes or something, but I only listed the ones I could fine titles for.
