Interesting. I'm curious if we'll start seeing more short films like these pop op on Marvel's Blu-Rays.
-
Speed Racer undoubtedly had its campy parts, but when it was awesome, it was really awesome. The Wachowskis sure as hell know how to develop a film's climax.
-
Ugh. Based on what we saw before, they're probably just going to go ahead and make Sinestro the villain without giving his turn to the dark side its proper due. And with them losing money on the first one, they're gonna be even less likely to step up the action and space scenes, so, hooray more Blake Lively scenes.

Personally I'm hoping that after they get Loki and the forming of the Avengers out of the way, we'll see them fight Ultron in the sequel. He's a major threat and he'll undoubtedly have a lot of robot minions for the Avengers to cut loose on.

Not sure why that was quoted to me. This was my list:
10. Kick-***
9. Hellboy
8. Blade
7. Batman Begins
6. Superman
5. Iron Man
4. X-Men 2
3. Spider-Man 2
2. The Dark Knight
1. The Incredibles -
Thoughts:
- Quote of the night: Tie between "Your mama was a werepanther?" and "I'm a police officer! And a werepanther!" Jason's still the reigning champ.
- Pretty sweet to see that, even mindwiped, Eric can smack Bill down.
- Sookie's undoubtedly aware of how good she looks in white unmentionables.
- Yep, I'm definitely tired of the storyline with Arlene's baby already. I thought I might feel better about it seeing as how it was dealing with spirits but they're taking up valuable screentime, dammit.
- I really like King Bill; he revels in his power as always, and he's never been more powerful, but it obviously weighs on him and he's actually got responsibilities to deal with.
- Totally called Tommy shifting into Sam and ******* with his life.
- I like how the packmaster adjusted his pitch to Alcide, but since they're obviously going to give some screentime to him and Debbie for a subplot of their own, there's no way they'll be able to avoid some drama.
- I'm surprised Hoyt and Jessica forgot to mention to Sookie how they found Jason on the side of the road, but at least they're actually aware of what's going on with each other this season, which is progress.
- Speaking of Jessica, it's hard to believe we've seen so little interaction between her and Jason when they've both got such a strong connection to Hoyt, but that connection is definitely weakening on Jessica's end; still, it's strange that Jessica and Jason are starting to feel some attraction for each other brewing when one is becoming wilder and the other's growing up.
- That cardinal vampire sure looked wicked, and if we get another scene like the one in the dungeon, I'm officially going to be rooting for the witches.
- I was hoping that Marnie's breakout was going to interrupt Eric's execution, but he successfully earn's Bill's sympathy; it was a little corny, but there was sincere conviction in his words.
- Ugh, I'm getting sick of Tommy; he's getting to be like Bella was from Supernatural in that he's a recurring character who just seems hellbent on screwing things up for other folks and always fails to show redeeming qualities.
- So are we going to get a possessed Lafayette throwing down with a possessed Marnie?
- You just know that Pam is going to get killed, and if Eric regains his memory, he's going to find out who did it, which may put a damper on his relationship with Sookie.
- No wonder the vamps are scared as ****; Marnie put the mind whammy on Luis like nothing.
- The series is channeling some of the Buffy vibes with more and more of the cast gaining powers and a bewitched vampire finding love with our sassy heroine, but it still feels fresh to me.

Quote:No doubt, but I'm curious about what happened in between Stark finding it and Fury showing it to Loki's lackey.Just because Stark recovered it 60 odd years ago doesn't mean he immediately turned it over to the government.
This is why I thought the Casket had the Cube inside of it: I assumed it fell off the Bifrost Bridge to Earth during Loki and Thor's fight and that's when SHIELD found it. -
Quote:I know that Stark found it, but I was referring to your "Odin's tesseract" comment. It seems weird that if the Asgardians knew about the Cube, they'd want to keep it in the armory along with the Casket and Infinity Gauntlet, so I was wondering if it had popped up there and I just didn't see it.Uhm, the tesseract/cube was shown in the Cap movie being retrieved by a subsea robot, Howard Stark orders the search to continue even though there is no wreckage in the area and the energy signature of the tesseract stopped at that spot since that is where the thing landed after it burned its way thru the hull of the Skull's flying wing.
That object that Fury shows the scientist in the THOR bonus scene was the tesseract/cosmic cube. So we know how SHIELD got its hands on it, thanks to the events in Captain America.
Yes, in THOR that was indeed the Casket of Ancient Winters, from Walt Simonson's classic run.
I'm also wondering why SHIELD is acting like they just barely found the Cube in modern day when Stark found it 60+ years ago. Seems like it would have made more sense if they found the Cube along with Cap. -
Quote:Did it appear in Odin's armory, though? I didn't catch everything that was in there when I saw Thor. At first I thought that maybe the Cosmic Cube was inside that blue box and everyone was using it to freeze stuff cuz that was the perception it had taken on, but after reading the Walt Simonson Thor Omnibus I realized it was the Casket of Winters.Yep I noticed that. Doesn't mean he went to Asgard though, and if he did he'd likely be imprisoned or executed by the Asgardians.
"This mere mortal dared misuse the tesseract of ODIN!" Also a mortal in Asgard is generally frowned upon I would think.
It is also possible that the cube made the skull one with the cosmos, similar to what Thanos used the cube for back in the Captain Mar-Vell series. Only Thanos retains his consciousness and thus IS the universe whereas the Skull simply merged and disipated into the universe. -
Quote:Well, I'm not sure how time moves in Asgard in relation to time on Earth, but the events in Thor were taking place in modern day, and if Red Skull was transported to Asgard or one of the other worlds, he was already there by the time Thor was banished. One of the comments on the drive home after the movie was "So, anybody think Red Skull can fast-talk Heimdall into letting him cross?"
Maybe they'll have Red Skull be even more of doppleganger to Cap in that the Frost Giants or whoever find Red Skull frozen or otherwise preserved around the same time SHIELD finds Cap? -
Quote:Yeah but we know damn well what it is.Because that's what the Red Skull called it in the movie. Of course we are going to see him again because I don't think he died, he just went somewhere else.
And when Red Skull was blasted, he went up, and it looked pretty similar to the effect of being transported by the Bifrost Bridge. Didn't anyone else notice that? -
Quote:Why do you keep calling the Cosmic Cube the tesseract? o.OPossibly but the sample that blew up on him sure appears to be gone. Also since they retrieved the tesseract, Stark may have done some study of it before it was tossed into SHIELD's warehouse/vault until Fury shows it to the scientist in THOR.
So the question still remains: did Howard try to synthesize the tesseract energies as part of his arc reactor work and it was Tony that finished the job in IM2? -
I don't see how they could not present him as smarter this time around. Even from the little teaser you could see Bane got Batman wet (which could weigh him down at the least and possibly screw up some of his gadgets) in an enclosed area (to make him less likely to play cat and mouse or even escape) while his men have guns trained on him as they fight in hand to hand combat.

Just got back from seeing this movie. Overall I think the movie was okay, but I have to say I expected it to be a little bit better. If you're a fan of Favreau following his directorial breakout Iron Man, you'll probably expect the same kind of pizzazz and flair that you were undoubtedly reminded of when they inserted a rock song with a few notes similar to Black Sabbath's Iron Man song into Cowboys & Aliens' trailer. Unfortunately, it felt like much of this magic was missing along with Robert Downey Jr.
Upon reflection, I believe this problem can be attributed to the dialogue, much of which was forgettable. If the dialogue had been improved, then I think the scenes and the characters would have had a little more weight to them. About halfway through the movie I noticed that a lot of the scenes were between a pair of characters. We had the pair of Daniel Craig and Olivia Wilde's characters, Harrison Ford's character and a boy, and Clancy Brown's and Sam Rockwell's characters. These are the scenes that are supposed to create emotional ties between the characters as well as between them and the audience, but Craig's and Wilde's connection mostly comes down to her being curious about what he knows and him finding her hot. Kurgen just basically gives Rockwell some advice and teaches him a bit about shooting. Ford's son is kidnapped and the boy's father figure was taken as well, so I felt this relationship was the strongest. Still, it's probably not good when 2 out of 3 of your movie's key relationships are fairly weak. In fact, at one point in the movie, one of these characters dies and leaves Craig with the charge of getting the abducted people back, but there wasn't as much emotional weight to the death as there could have been.
Still, outside of the somewhat underwhelming dialogue and thin characterization, the movie has its moments. I think one aspect of cowboy movies that people enjoy is seeing one of the characters as just so cool and ahead of his time in terms of his problem solving, and Craig delivers this in the moments he's given. There's also a minor relationship between Ford's character and one his men that he undervalues that should have been given more screentime because is was more interesting and powerful than some of the others. Above all, though, I think folks who can appreciate movies for their concept and are less likely to scrutinize like I do will enjoy this movie, because the title says it all. It's cowboys (and indians) fighting aliens! It should definitely be more enjoyable for those who are intrigued by the concept of humanity attempting to fight aliens when we don't have all sorts of advanced weapons and technology at our disposal.
So, in summation: go and see this movie if you simply want to see cowboys and aliens duke it out, but don't expect the exceptional type of performance that Favreau got out of RDJ to carry it. -
Bleh, I'll take Pat Lee's art over that, kthx.

I wonder how Marvel could win this after DC lost their case. o.O

Quote:And like Michael Caine and Christopher Lee, as opposed to Nick Cage, the involvement of Liam Neeson always makes a movie better. Doesn't necessarily make 'em great, but better.I think of him as more akin to greats like Michael Caine and Christopher Lee, neither of whom have ever let the possibility that a movie might suck dissuade them from taking the job.
Also, Daniel Day Lewis is ridiculously overrated. -
Quote:Steve Rogers throwing himself on the grenade while everyone else runs away will probably go down as one of my all time favorite comic book movie moments. I was a little skeptical about a Captain America movie because even after reading Brubaker's run, which is considered one of the best runs on Cap's title, I still didn't feel like there was a clear definition of who Cap was as a person, and characterization is important to me. However, that moment nailed it.Just got back and I actually enjoyed it. Well done on that one directors, sad part is now they gotta reboot F4 if they ever plan to continue because Evans was a good choice. Of course it wasn't perfect (no pun intended), it was in a sense predictable and less believable. Kid would throw himself down on the grenade?
-
Basically. I think in 616 Marvel he basically said he'd seen and done enough killing in the war. Not sure if they'll carry this element over for the Avengers movie.
-
I wonder if they'll be a part in the Avengers movie where Cap refuses to kill. Could be one of the points of friction between the members.
