I saw nipplage!!!! *gasp*
Oh wait. Nevermind, that's her belly button. -
You may have better luck posting this in the Costume Re-Design thread stickier atop this forum. I believe some of the costume gurus there don't scan the rest of the forum...
-
Quote:Good thing you're not opposed to determining what you want to believe before looking at any evidence. Oh wait...Well, Caemgen, I've largely ignored your gestures because quite frankly, I don't believe in your sincerity.
Quote:You claim repeatedly that your expressed opinions of me or Wassy or anyone else you don't think highly of aren't at play but your behavior and actions indicate otherwise.
Quote:For instance, at one point, you vehemently disagreed with me regarding the usefulness of model sheets. A few weeks later, you're looking to get model sheets of your own, and even funded a contest with the prize being model sheets.
Quote:And what about the time you said that Nei Ruffino did a fantastic job coloring your Nema artwork? When Wassy expressed that she didn't believe you got fair value for those colors...you disagreed strongly, but then went around a few weeks later and hired Swanzy to re-color it for you.I guess you're little cabal has a group mind and must share everything with the queen bee...
Actually when Wassy expressed her opinions about the Ruffino colors I believe the point I was trying to get across to her was that I agreed to the fact that I didn't think it was Ruffino's best works but that I was still quite happy with them. Yes, I believe in public I showed no reservations about the arts because I tend to believe it's best to be complimentary of others works whenever possible...
As far as hiring Eddy for a new set of colors, the reasons behnd that were several and not one of them were because I didn't like the Ruffino colors. As stated, I did not think it the best job she ever did but by no means did I think they were bad.
Eddy was hired to do the colors because I didn't think I'd get Ruffino to do the other Nema peice I got and I tend to like things in sets, so I wanted the consistancy of the same colorist for both. Eddy also expressed great interest in coloring the first Nema lines and since I liked Eddy I liked the idea of giving him that opportunity. Finally, I made the final decision to have Eddy do that piece during that time when Eddy believed he was being shortchanged by a different client and I offered Eddy the chance to color these lines (at 1.5 times his normal rate) as a way to try and compensate Eddy for his loss...
Nice to see his representative trying to use my generosity and goodwill towards him against me.
Quote:I also recall expressing my opinion that presentation is important and that a well organized gallery works towards those ends. You also disagreed with me there, saying that it doesn't quite matter because you're not going to be a hardcore collector, but then a few months or so later...your gallery's organized into folders by character.
My disagreement about presentation was in regards to the work inside a gallery, not how it was orgnized? My issue was with your stated desires os wanting "the best" gallery while I was stating my opinion that there is no "best" gallery since art is subjective and everyone's goals are different. The point I was making was that I don't want just "name" artists and never real, that is why I shall never be a hardcore collector...
As for organizing my arts into individual character... I think I did that really early on and it has more to do with me being able to find arts I'm looking for than anything else. I don't try to make my gallery look good for other people - I could care less if people are looking through it and feel no need to show it off. I'm not looking for watchers. Really I'm shocked anyone bothers watching me. My gallery is for my selfish little enjoyment and that is it.
Quote:I don't think I need to point out either your rather long argument with Suichiro and Wassy regarding the suitability of my credentials for writing a guide on collecting original comic art before I actually finished it.
Quote:By sharing your opinions in a forum, you're inviting discussion about it. There are enough people around who care enough about art to discuss, comment, and debate. I personally don't care if people agree or disagree with my perspective. My only contention is that if you're going to express/argue a counterpoint and want anyone to take it seriously, at least have a little courtesy to do so in logical manner.
[QUOTE=Bayani;3187112]From what I've observed, Caemgen, you determine what you want to believe before looking at any of the facts/evidence, then look for anything to back up your opinion while largely ignoring the other party's line of argument. Which is fine, I suppose, if you don't want to contribute positively to anything resembling a good discussion.[/QUOTE}
Actually I've pointed out several times in this thread times when I have changed my mind on things (prizes for FArt type contests, model sheets) so I find your argument that I ignore facts/evidence... Well, I find it applying more to yourself than to me.
Quote:However, it's fair to point out that "Your mileage may vary, God bless you" doesn't grant you a reprieve from people expressing their views as to why your arguments may or may not be valid.
I may question why someone respond to me when they say my opinion doesn't matter but I never express the opinion that they don't have that right. -
Very cool SoM piece... Though I still like the previous one a bit better
And hey! Where'd you disappear to?? Haven't seen you here since that last SoM art if I'm not mistaken???? -
ANYWAY... Not running this so we may as well all move on!
PS - You're right, too much drama no matter what...
VexXxa - I've NEVER mooned anyone on these boards... Unless they happened to be dressed like a nun and riding in a bus down route 33 last Friday night around 3am. And if that is the case, sorry
And why am I still awake??? -
Quote:I know Caem's intention with the prize is more than likely thought of as a "thank you for joining" type prize and appreciate the sentiment. But if what we/you are looking for is bringing people together to showcase art of a semilar theme why does there NEED to be a prize?
I think I'm rambling now and in the end have no bearing on this as I don't have art to contribute so I'm probably done with this now. Contest on, Garth!
Pfffft, silly! Read the thread! I already gave up on the prizes... And in fact agreed that a Jam type thing would be much better if only someone with the cred to do so would step up and start one! -
Well you chose the hot, cool one so no matter what we may disagree on, you can't be all bad
-
Quote:If you can't find a way to express yourself in such a way as it won't get you banned than I feel sorry for you.Look, I don't need a forum ban today so I'm going to probably stay out of this after this post because there's about 20 things I've typed out and since deleted that I'd just love to say to you.
But it's quite obvious to anybody with a shred common sense that you (Caemgen) don't like Bayani or Wassy. And therefore, you've decided to ignore everything they've said and roll on in here with your proclamation (which as Wassy pointed out runs totally counter to your attitude earlier) on what has to be done.
It's already been decided, and all but agreed upon by everybody involved. A group of people which does not include you (or to be fair, me. But I don't have any aversion to actually reading what's going on in the thread) despite your delusions of self importance.
So yes. My mileage does vary. Because I chose not to ignore what's going on. And keep your blessing. What the heck does that have to do with anything anyway?
It is true that I have opinions about Bayani and Wassy but they're not what is at play here. I made several gestures towards Bayani in attempts to at least put a band aid over the rift but they have gone ignored. In Wassy's case I haven't made such a gesture but I also do not strive to continue the ill will...
What is at play is my hope that a good end to this contest can be had. I don't believe it can be done as was suggested. Note, I said believe. As in that is my opinion. I am not trying to force my opinion on anyone, merely expressing it. I cannot help it if that bothers you.
As for my self importance, well yeah... I am very important to myself. Why I am so important you your little group of Heathers is beyond me. I'm just wondering which of your group is the Veronica... But alas, as you suggest, my opinion carries no weight - That makes me wonder why you all don't just ignore it but seem the need to attack it at every turn. *shrug* -
Quote:You're right, I did make a u-turn. Based upon things that were said and pointed out, as well as thinking upon the mess this is, I changed my mind. It happens to everyone from time to time... unless of course they're too pigheaded to ever admit they were wrong.Sorry, but that is indeed a huge U-Turn from earlier quips of "But the final say goes to the FArt Mistress".
You can stick your fingers in your ears and pretend it didn't happen, but I said Shia vs. CR and I said ribbons.
Edited to find the quote:
Frankly one of the things that changed my mind is that the FArt Mistress resigned. I respect and support your reason for doing so totally but the fact that the contest ran this long under one hand and is suddenly at the last, messy moment passed to someone else seems like a derailment to me.
Another thing that changed my mind was Frost's and your opposition to prizes with a monetary value. I believe you both were right and that it doesn't help a contest such as this, only increases the risk of hard feelings and drama.
Throw in ALL the statements you said about who wins, who should win under what conditions, etc... And I think it best the artists work together rather than try to wander through this maze. -
Pfffft!
Remember, it's not the size of the mind, it's the drugs you use to kill it that counts! -
I'm frankly shocked you thought my opinion worthy of complaining about in the first place. Glad that is settled.

I wrote one of my typical rambling post with quotes and charts and graphs and weasels and what not but decided to boil it all down to this:
At this point I think a fair showdown between CR and Shia is pretty much impossible. I suspect too many people already know how they would vote regardless of what was submitted by the artists...
As such I think any show down is pretty much a waste and a joke and, now, a money grab.
I believe the only *possible* way to salvage any real sense of a champion is for the artists to work together and decide on a format they think would be fair to them.
*shurg* that's my opinion. Your mileage may vary. God bless you all. -
I'd be cool with that - to me it's all about seeing cool game arts by the artists who play the game and contests just seemed a way to prompt that... But regular jams would be awesome. I just suspect they'd be better led by someone who could contribute to them...
But yeah, if it took off I think a regular CoH Jam. Would be best... (sides, I like the fact I pronounce CoH Jam to rhyme with Toe Jam in my head.. Yeah, I am easily amused...) -
My final suggestion for this contest:
Shia, Pyro and CR should all get in touch with each other and come up with a way to settle this between them. They should do it away from the pressure of accusations, percieved pressure, dangled money or anything else except the desire to have a legitimate, fun and classy ending to this thing.
Unless that happens I'm drinking Suichiro's kool aid and declaring Foo the winner. -
Alrighty, cash prize equals the ultimate evil. Is the consensus against contests altogether now or would it be worthwhile to continue trying to discuss the best format?
-
Thinking goes that CR had immunity and with Pyro dropping out this month would be between CR and Shia... Since CR had immunity, contest over.
-
Frankly, methinks there needs be a Ribbon themed showdown...
CR, I agree with your quotes and how you interpret them EXCEPT that you didn't declare you intention to just take the crown until after Wassy changed her mind, clarified, whatever and gave a theme for you and Shia to tackle.
In the post giving the theme she clearly states she think you should advance AND that Shia should. So since the consensus seems to have always been that the FArt Mistress' ruling were what we went by, I think we must allow this change of direction since nothing 100% declaritive had been done by oneone before that.
That is, assuming Shia wants to bother continuing. -
Final piece by Tyra-WM, who I just found out colored the cover of Jughead #202
Another piece by MykeManila - pretty sure he has two left to do for me. Been taking forever but this one is much more awesome than the previous ones so if that continues it's worth the wait? Also hear this was delayed a bit due to pro work so... I guess me hiring you is lucky? (Ha!)
And finally a coloring piece by Vrykon...
-
Alrighty, with the latest FArt contest kind of, sort of completed, I was thinking of a different sort of similar contest. I wanted something still CoH centered and themed but I was hoping for something a bit more flexible
*So below is my idea. *
At this point it is JUST an idea
Please feel free to comment on what you like or do not like about any or all of the rules. If you dont like something, please explain why and offer suggestions on a better rule if you have them. This outline is just a quick idea I had at work and is not meant to be airtight and perfect.
And artists - Let me know if you are interested in this kind of contest or not. If not, theres really no point, right? Youre thoughts, ideas and suggestions will be even more valuable for without your participation the whole thing is moot.
And with that, I present for your consideration . **
CHASM - City of Heroes Art Scramble Marathon
General Outline of Contest:
This contest is structured so that anyone can enter at any point from the first month until the last. Obviously being in from the get go will give you a better chance to win, and after some point youll be mathematically eliminated, but the main point is fun so join in whenever is good for you.
The contest will be a series of Head to Head matches between the artists competing. Each month all artists will be working on the same theme as all the others but their entry will only be voted on in relation to one other artists entry. Each months winner of the individual Head to Head matches will receive points for that month, no points awarded for not winning. At the contests stated end the artist with the most points will be declared the winner. If two or more artists are tied in points there will be a Sudden Death Theme declared and all those tied with the most points will have a chance to complete an artwork based upon that theme. The winner will be decided in an open vote pitting them all against the others rather than head to head.*
Which artist is competing against which other artist each month will be determined randomly. Im leaning towards names in a hat unless I think of something better. This means artists may square off more than once or even multiple times in a row. Thems the breaks of letting chance have a role
If there is an odd number of contestants then one head to head match will randomly be a three way match but with the rule of only the winner getting that months points still applying. Again, thems the vagaries of chance
If there is a tie in a Head to Head battle (or three way) then the points for that month will be split evenly amongst the competitors tied.
Points:
The number of points each month is worth will be predetermined to the start of the contest but NOT made public. No one month will be worth enough points to catapult someone to a win since obviously there would have been other head to head matches that month. Months will each be worth between 1 and however many months the contest is running. If its a year long contest than each month could be worth between 1 and 12 points. The idea of this is to keep anyone from dropping out because they feel they have no chance to win due to some early losses or such. **
I havent thought too deeply on this yet but I want to keep it something similar as I like the idea of entrants having no idea where they are until the end
Schedule:
I will announce each months theme on the first of the month. Entries will be due on the last day of the month by noon Eastern time. Failure to post a working link to your entry by that time means you are not competing that month. There is no penalty for not competing in a month except for the inability to gain points that month. I will randomly decide whose piece is up against whose sometime after the noon deadline (so I know how many entries there are) and hopefully before noon of the next day. Real life may interfere but I dont have much of one so it usually shouldnt. Voting will commence immediately after I announce the match ups and last for 7 days. *Give or take a few hours (If it starts on a Monday I will announce voting closed sometime on the next Monday - Im not going to worry about exact times so vote early!)
Artists will not need to wait and see if they won before starting to work on the new theme as there are no eliminations.*
Themes and Content:
All themes would be CoH related. My intent is to keep them very vague so that the artists have as much room to maneuver as possible. As long as the artist can somehow make some kind of coherent verbal argument as to how his piece is applicable to the theme then it will be a valid entry. Whether or not the piece fits the theme enough to get each individual voters vote is up to that voter.
As far as content, each piece MUST contain at least one character that actually exists in City of Heroes. It can be an NPC (though if you choose the newsman, a pedestrian or the like the MUST be recognizable as such.) or a players character. It can be the artists personal character or someone elses (with permission, of course) - Id prefer the artists spread the art love but that is up to them. *The only characters which cannot be used to meet this requirement are those of the person running the contest (me) and those who you do not get permission from - tacit approval is fine for those who are always open to free art but get explicit approval if there is any doubt.
This is my Spread the Love rule - originally I was going to make every entry include a players character but decided not to force that issue, just to nudge them towards it.
Content of the piece in other regards is totally up to the artist. If you are going adult themed then remember about CoHs two click rule.*
Misc:
Artists are responsible for hosting their art and providing a valid link (or two-click link) to it. Im going to have links posted instead of the actual art so as when the voting post is put up those going head to head will be next to one another and the random placement of the art being posted in entries wont confuse the matter
Voting will be open to anyone who has a valid CoH account as voters will be required to post their votes on the CoH forums. Voters must vote in each of the Head to Head competitions for it to be a good vote.*
More may be added as its suggested or thought of, this is a work in progress.
Anything not already covered is at the person running the contests discretion I will be as fair as possible and try to write up a rule covering any situations that may arise that hadnt been thought of before But my judgment is the final ruling in those cases no matter what public or private opinion may be.
Prize:
Yes indeed there is a prize for the winner! *
My intention is for there to be a prize for each run of this CHASM contest. Ideally it would be an annual thing but realistically it may end up being a sporadic or one time thing. *shrug* *Itll mainly be up to the entrants.*
The winner for each CHASM I run will be a trophy and some other prize to be determined (may be cash, may be a commission from someone for the winning artists character, may be a DA subscription I just havent decided yet.)*
I like the idea that artists can come and go as they please but it does have Marathon in its name for a reason I like the idea of there being a reward for the artists who was there and there with quality often enough to win it all.
So there you have it No feel free to rip it to shreds or ignore it altogether.* -
Congrats Wassy. Despite all the board nonsense I wish you nothing but good fortune in that thing called Real Life. Hopefully you have success and happiness together in both your personal and professional life.
And when you return (for everyone returns eventually) I'm sure we'll be able to find something new to bicker over -
PowerStream - Just saw Machete on Saturday myself. Really enjoyed it, not as much as some but it was definitely a fun flick...*
Eddy's colors are indeed awesome. Why do you think I keep going back to him?
Airhead - wait a minute... You're in Singapore and blaming me for your afflictions?? Either Singapore doesn't live up to it's reputation or you don't get out much! *
And it just occurs to me... Maybe I can blame Airhead for the Buddy Caemgen?? LoL
VexXxa - thanks! *Though I must say, everything Rhardo has done in that style (character cut out of background) has been amazing so far... -
Sorry for the double post but new arts in already! First up is a Caemgen piece by unholyground on DA - I have a Fenian and Fenian Wolf piece in the works as well so stay tuned, I'm really digging his style so far
Without background:
And with:
Next up we have art from Tyra-WM on DevianArt... Just Caemgen and Fenian for now but Fenian Wolf is in the works as well...
Not the "classic" image of Caemgen, and definitely not the Buddy image of Caemgenbut I'm really glad we experimented with the horns coming out like this and overall I think a cool pic...
Now this one I totally dig! My fallback/bored emote is juggle and I decided it was about time to demonstrate that in art!I really like how this piece came out!
Finally, some colors by a little known artist called Eddy-Swan. You probably haven't heard of this kid yet but he's a powerhouse from down under and one day will explode on this side of the planet, I think! These are colors on Bindweed/Happy-Dan lines found earlier in this thread...
And that about wraps it up... There's a couple of CR Caemgen pieces but those are in his thread - Go check them out!! You definitely need to see the Buddy Caemgen if you haven't yet!!!
And I think this post is making a new page, if you're set at 20 like I am... So if you missed the Rhardo Fenian piece, go back a page and check it out... Definitely worth seeing! -
Quote:Prices for commissions aren't aloud though for prizes it was always OK before as long as it was a contest.
Also with the PK site says it's a dc online league thats true. So I have no excuse for that though like I mentioned, we are throughout the internet for MMO's with people all ya guys know like Veikira, CelticBolt, me (I hope you didn't forget me), Gray Huntress, Striking Speedster and many more Coh'ers. We all still play this game and have an SG here so I figured why not let the artists here know so they have a shot...
Point one: Alrighty, I didn't know that
Point two: It's all good by me... Well, depending how many journals and such I see I may get kind of annoyed at the oversaturation :P But I'm not the target audience anyway, unless you're going to award the prize for the crappiest Sharpie art!
