If Stopping trying to steal a heart
Would this contest make you depart
Then I must indeed keep trying
For leaving would surely leave you crying
For CR's arts are a prize indeed
Upon which our desires do feed
But fear not too much for hearts
For there are many delicious parts
And though it knows much of desire
And can make one burn as a pyre
It's but one instrument, but one thing
Which when played well can make one sing....
(I've got way too much time on my hands at work!! And I can't even pick again yet.) -

77, cause it's twice as lucky and it's my second guess on second contest?

What's the saying? Seven come eleven?

Hey now, remember to give the talent thief share!!
No screwing us out of the profits, Fenian has a history in the business and knows all the tricks... -

That came out great, really like the style and pose on that one...

There's an App (or at least a thread) for that!
The entire hugeness of a thread linked above is dedicated to redesigning characters and you'd be a lot more likely to get help from the experts there... -

Excuses, excuses!
I saw it while at work but I really try to refrain from snatching up freebies so that the less art endowed can get them... -
Happy Birthday!!!
I'm stuck at work right now so I'll have to hunt you down and, ummm... Spank you later... -
Sorry peeps, they plum ran out... Because there's a limited amount of the 1's and 0's needed to created digital stuff...

As a quick sketch, that is a masterpiece... Hell, as a regular piece it is awesome.

Quote:I think if, in judging art, previous knowledge didn't count then all those last supper paintings are just a bunch of guys eating dinner.Unless the art reads to it's subject as fire themed, it's not fire themed. If you need pre-existing knowledge to understand the connection and your subject does not have that knowledge, then your piece fails to express itself.
If I drew Mel and had no fire anywhere at all, it would not read as fire-themed to anyone who didn't know the character. That's a failure to express the theme for that month.
This goes for everyone, not just Bubba.
There is no separating previous knowledge from judging art. As such I think it makes sense that Bubs can justly expect the vast majority here to know his Matchsticks, just as any artist here could justly expect the audience here to know Positron... Ok, maybe not equal expectation if knowledge, but close enough...
If this judging was open to the whole webverse then sure, I could see an argument that Bubba's character is not familiar enough to meet the theme. In our little corner of the web though, I personally find it totally sufficient.
Of course art speaks to people in different ways, and different people read different interpretations into art. That being the case if push came to shove regarding meeting the theme then I believe we should base it on what we believe the artists intentions were... And I believe Bubba intended people to know it was a fire character. -

I'm paying next to no attention to the contest this year, not even really paying attention to the rules debate or anything, but this caught my eye...
Regardless of how I feel about the person running the contest being in the contest, I have to say I think that pic qualifies for the fire theme. That looks to me like one of Bubba's Matchstick characters. They are all fire based toons, I believe... So that right there is a valid connection to me.
Maybe it's not the most all encompassing expression of the theme but I definitely think it's enough to qualify as an entry. -
Candra's pieces are always great, this is no exception...
Though JKat does look a bit young in this piece... Better check to make sure he;s legal! -
It's really a great piece, congrats to all involved.

You don't look all that out of practice!! Nice sketch!!
(And I imagine you'll be getting a ton of requests once people start checking the boards today!) -
Ahhh, so I'm not going insane! Phew!!
