Quote:Well...let's see...I'm sorry but how does wanting to keep a unique name= selfishness, but must have someone else's name≠selfishness?
What would make the game more accessible to new players is a name generator at the ID screen. We were all new players once. I do not consider myself a veteran player. When I create a new character, I'm in the same boat as someone on a trial account as far as naming is concerned.
It took me a month to find these forums, I didn't come on here complaining that the name I wanted was "In use" or "Unavailable." Why? Because there are countless tools out there to help anyone find a unique name. I just so happen to have about five or six sitting on my desk, plus bookmarked websites none of which are name generators.
If people are dead set on having that name and only that one name, then what do they do with the next character they create? You know, because that mythical 'best name' has already been taken.
If me wanting to keep my names to myself is selfish, then so be it. But don't come on here claiming that your POV is any less selfish.
Oh, and another reason I like having unique names? If even one other person has that name on the same server, then it's too common for me, I don't want it.
RaveSpider
Rave Spider
Rave-Spider
The same name, spelled differently, and in acceptable hero/villain name motif (ie...no periods or extra X's or what have you).
Sooo...all three versions are unique, but still not quite unique as it's basically the same name.
Which people should remember to use that hyphen. I have a SG member, who refuses to use the hyphen, saying hyphens seemed wrong in the name, even after I pointed out "Spider-Man" and how the hyphen was better than Eagie Boy (with a captial I, in place of an L, as the name was already taken, when the name Eagle-Boy wasn't taken at all).
I cried when I saw that. :/ -
Quote:This is what I imagine will be the case.lrn2type?
<shrug>
I'm thinking that's user error and the buck stops there. At least it should.
Make sure you type the right now. Or if you do make a mistake, hoep the other person on the other side is nice enough to return the item. -
Quote:The only advantage CO has over CoX for me...is the ability to make a toon that can fire dual pistols, a fire ball, shield others, and shield itself! Basically, a free form power selection, that I can't have here (though hope they one day implement, or come closer too).I liked both, until the CO Devs tried to pass off a newzone with a lvl 37-40 mission arc in a game with already BARLY enough content to hit the level cap as a Paid expansion...i wasn't the only one and they hemoraged subscribers and made it free to try and save face but stepped in it again saying "but more paid content WILL come!"
Honestly if CoX were to remove the costume limit, the only thing keeping me on a priferaly with CO for Project Nine Thousand I'd never look back
Basically CO will allow the Assault/Defense/Buff+Debuff Epic set I want for an AT here.
Other than that, I prefere CoX's game play, animation/art style, and basically CoX in general over CO.
Hell, for all the talk of CO having better costume creater, I found CO limited you just as much as CoX on costume items! "What do you mean I can't use these gloves with this costume option?! It doesn't make sense! I thought it was suppossed to be better!" was my CO experience. :P -
Quote:AGREED! I hate having to choose between a tail or belt!Well I look at it this way: I hope that the animated tails we get here are an improvement over what they got in CO. But even if they aren't for some reason we're still going to get, at the very least, our old legacy tails with belts. I've been wanting tails and belts together as an option almost as much as animated tails themselves.

Quote:Is that flagged credit card a new thing? I don't recall that, when I accidently purchased one of the boosters multiple times, because the store was screwed up.Yeah... That's easier said than done. Counting off memory, we have Good vs. Evil, Wedding, Valkyrie, Cyborg, Super Science, Ninja and Magic, for a total of $70 all together. As well, your credit card gets flagged for only a single purchase from the PlayNC store per day as an anti-fraud countermeasure, which means you need to spend a week and SEVENTY DOLLARS to buy them all. A promotional pack that's, say, $30 like a regular expansion pack and has it all in ONE pack would be a much easier way to get new players on track.
That said, I'd rather have costume items locked up in Booster Packs than locked behind TFs. MUCH RATHER!
I don't see having to buy one booster pack a day all that bad myself, and yes it's time they'd have to spend more money, but no different that the long time players.
And who knows, the booster packs may go down in price after a while. I wouldn't be suprised at seeing them drop in price at some future point.
9.99 now...but later becoming 4.99 I can easily see. -
Quote:My problem with CO's naming structure, was the other players.Yeah, I remember spending most of my time trying to fix mistakes caused by colours applying to the wrong thing, accidentally swapping the wrong item type and trying to tab through unintuitive menus to look for the one piece I was sure was there. Names didn't take me a long time, but I'm the wrong guy to talk to about this, since names rarely take me long even here.
I CAN say one thing, though - getting a name in Champions Online was far less satisfying than it was in City of Heroes. Here, when I get a name that's not in use, I can be sure that it's either so clever no-one thought of it, so obscure no-one knows about it, or so silly no-one would want it. In Champions Online... It's just kind of there, I guess. Getting it just isn't as exciting.
You can have any name you want, and you STILL use the xXx NAME xXx structure? You still use Elite speak names? You still come up with the DUMMEST NAME EVER (like MonkeyPooBoyElite or PHATPHISH) when you can have any decent hero name you can think of?!
I'm annoyed seeing those names here! But to have seen them there at CO, EVEN WORSE!
Here, it's people not even trying or they just being idiotic. There! It's just idiotic.
IMO anyways. :P -
Quote:I can see the vet rewards being a problem for new users...and I'm pretty much against any costume option being a future reward for VETS. As the new players may never get to use them (as it is now...I think it tops out at 15 months to have every costume option).Like I said - pull 'em. This game managed to crush my "But what about other players?" sentiment ever since it introduced veteran rewards and bundles of booster packs. At this point, new players are boned in so many ways I don't really want to sacrifice my comfort to save them of just one.
Maybe some day if they come up with an "Everything Booster" pack and sell it as an expansion, then I could start worrying about other people's experience of the game, but until then, pull the names. See if that helps. Not like they'll miss 'em.
But any new user can get the booster pack, so I don't see that as a problem at all. -
Quote:CO still has advantages over CoH. They just aren't advantages the general CoH forum users care for.You know, for all I like that competition is pushing the Devs to add small features that people have been asking for forever, I can't feel but feel sorry for CO. The tiniest advantages they have get yoinked right out from under them like a yoinky thing. What are they going to do now, add five years' worth of well-written missions?
Like...different style of play!
And that will continue to be CO's selling point.
Some people also prefere CO's open world. Why people want to see CO crash and burn, doesn't make any sense. Don't like it, fine no problem. But others do enjoy playing CO. And the competition is good for both games. -
No worse than or current tails...that said I didn't like how they did the fox tail. :/ It needed to narrow down more at the connect imo. As it was, it was way to wide and made it look terrible.

Quote:No one knows the exact way it will work. All we know is a toon will be limited to one specific market. If you can access WW, you won't beable to access the BM.I have a few pressing GR questions, considering the free transfers are ending soon:
Can a hero who goes rogue use the villain market, and trade infamy and items with villains?
More importantly, will any influence a hero has when he goes rogue become infamy?
(And will a rogue hero no longer be able to use the hero market or trade with heroes?)
Apologies to Thong Snapper for tacking my questions on to your thread.
Personally, I just hope that, a hero can have the option of going full redside, so they can access the BM. And vice versa...not just switch sides to do missions on the other side. -

Quote:Avilan got cancelled when they made wings available to EVERYONE.We had a similar conversation in Victory Forum global chat last weekend.
We have still not seen some of the long ago talked about ATs like Incarnates, Avilan or Blood of the Black Stream. I think there was another one was Coralax but I'm not sure how relevant they would be since they are all over CoV. Some are speculating and gearing up for new ATs by leveling one of every AT to 50 just in case (I'm looking at you Masque). I'm far too lazy to do that though. I do recall way back when (Damn I feel old) the original lead dev said that locking the new epics would not require reaching level 50; but just like him, that idea could be out of the door.
I'm speculating that since Incarnates received their powers from the well of Zeus, the new end game system will be some sort of epic quest to find and drink from the well, thus turning your level 50 into an Incarnate.
The great thing about speculation is if you're wrong who cares; we're just throwing out ideas anyway. On the other hand if you're right you look like a genius and can say to everyone "I told you so"... at least for awhile
Before it was thought to be the only way to get the wings on a toon, was as an Epic AT. Now that that isn't the case, that Epic AT isn't needed. -

We can't upgrade to the other editions, once we pre purchase the basic one to begin with?

Quote:I like it. I'd make a few changes myself.OK so Ill be surprised if this is original but Ive searched and searched and cannot find it anywhere, so if it has been been posted and shot down before do tell and we can shoot this down as well quicly, anyway I have been thinking about a "Time Control" set for Trollers/Doms and I think Ive come if with something a least decent. Obviously feedback is simply a necessity and and a lot of it will need the mind of an expert gamer who has a good idea on balancing and what a good set needs to be viable and so here is what Ive thought of:
You posses control over time itself! You are able to slow or freeze your enemies in time as well as distort it for a variety of effects.
Slow Potent slow effect, minor energy/negative dmg.
You slow time around a single enemy dramatically reducing their movement and recharge rates, the temporal energies surrounding them are dangerous and will slowly deal energy damage.
Stop Hold, moderate dmg
You freeze time around an enemy, while frozen the enemy is completely helpless and are harmed by large amounts of temporal energy.
Mass Slow AoE snare, minor dmg
You slow time in a large area, dramatically reducing the movement and recharge rates of those caught in it.
Distort Age Single Target Major dmg debuff
Your power over time allows you to temporally age an enemy greatly weakening them, aside from a slightly reduced movement rate the victim is fully capable of movement and using their abilities though the ageing will leave them incredible weakened and they will unlikely to pose any threat.
Time Window AoE Fear and dmg
You can open a window in time, all enemies close to the window will be caught in awe, amazement, confusion or terror as they witness everything that has been and will be and the complexity of time itself. Also all enemies close to the window, even those who could resist looking into will be harmed by the huge temporal energies flooding out of the window.
Mass Stop - AoE Hold, dmg
You freeze time in a large area leaving all enemies caught within helpless and taking damage from the temporal energies.
Mass Distort Age AoE, major dmg debuff
You can distort the age of all those in a large area.
Haste Basically kinetics buff (This one I think needs the most thought I think)
You can speed up time for you and your allies slightly increasing, movement, recharge and regeneration rates.
Time Ally Pet summon, would have a degree of randomness
You pluck a fellow hero/villain from time to come and aid you, the ally and its powers can vary.
Others possibilities: Erase Single target small chance for instant death (AV, Heroes etc. are obviously immune) You attempt to erase a single target from existence, there is only small chance this will succeed due to the complexities of such an act.
Time Travel Single target or AoE intangible affect, basically Dimension Shift. You throw a enemy/enemies through time causing them to become intangible for the duration of the trip.
Time Ally, I'd treat like a mixture of Phantom Army and normal pet summon. And they'd all be like you.
Summon Selves.
The hold I'd much prefere called Time Loop - Suspended Target in a time loop, effectively holding them. They just keep repeating an action.
My main is a time manipulator, who uses time manipulation unconsciencly to see in bullet time, and weaken targets at a focal point, by aging them so she can basically hurt anything (DB/WP). It's my way of explaining the daggers cutting through metal doors...ect.
And I'd love to see a set like this made. Though I do agree, it needs a team buff in it, to really do the set justice (ie...Haste). I know they could pair it up with /KIN, but that's just not the same imo. The set needs it's own +SPD power. -
Quote:It didn't cost more...it's random vs picking up exactly what you want.Salvage has more uses than just IOs (Bases, Empowerment Buffs) and generic IOs require more common salvage than Set IOs.
This shows that you haven't a clue as to what you are talking about. The developers have said that tickets in the AE are to replace drops at the same rate as playing outside the AE.
Random Common Arcane/Tech Salvage (Level 10 and up) 8
Uncommon Arcane/Tech Salvage (Levels 10-25; 26-40; 41-50) 80
Rare Arcane/Tech Salvage (Levels 10-25; 26-40; 41-50) 540
Training Origin Enhancement (Level 1 and up) 15
Dual Origin Enhancement (Level 15 and up) 35
Single Origin Enhancement (Level 25 and up) 75
If a specific piece of common salvage (due to the random number generator) costs more than a specific piece of uncommon salvage, then something is broken.
Go do non AE missions, looking for a specific uncommon piece of salvage vs going to AE market.
The commons aren't that bad to get. Sometimes it doesn't roll in your favor and sometimes you get it on the first roll. -
Quote:And then you can save those other 7 common salvage for later use or sell them at WW or the BM.Given that the prices and availability of common salvage on the auction houses are less stable than the uncommons and rares, it should stand to reason that random rolls aren't working.
I've had to roll up to 10 times to get the piece of salvage I've wanted on occasion. That equals an uncommon salvage. Thanks to the random number generator, one could end up spending even more than that to get a specific piece of common salvage. -
You know, if they had a global name, I'd understand this. But if the user doesn't have a global name after all this time, I can only guess they haven't logged in since global name's where introduced to begin with.

beable to run all of Ultra Mode at the highest settings, without lag?
Right now, I can run CoH & CoH Test at the same time, highest setting with no lag. I'm hoping Ultra Mode will allow the same! -
Quote:I see things rather differently in this regard. The complaint does come up regularly, but far from often, and while the people making it tend to be diverse, the people arguing against it (outside of myself and a couple of others) are equally so. Furthermore, lack of names itself isn't the problem. Names are there, and this is easily provable. It's the lack of that specific name that the complainer specifically wants. I've seen the argument enough to recognise this as a pattern. And while you could extrapolate that many people wanting this or that name points to there not being enough names and people often running into one they can't use, I extrapolate a rather different conclusion - that the problem is the desire for a SPECIFIC name, rather than more names in general.
If the problem isn't the amount of acceptable names left available and is instead that all the GOOD names are taken, then the only solution to this is to release names to multiple users. No amount of names will ever be enough for people, because people don't want quantity, they want specific choices, which are taken by other people wanting the same specific choices. This is a problem that is not solvable in a way that I can agree with, but it's also a problem that I can't really agree NEEDS to be solved. I fully admit that just getting whatever you type in on the first try does have its own appeal, but I also fully believe that NOT getting it having to write around limitations is not actually inherently bad. As such, I refuse to acknowledge this as a factual problem so much as a perception problem. Since the players refuse to yield, then the game must therefore be made to yield to them.
Granted, I can't make an argument as to why choosing the name you want on the first try is BAD - I can sort of run one that it kind of stifles creativity, but that's not really relevant. I CAN however, bring up several positive sides to the situation and paint it as less of a direct problem and more of an inconvenience, which can be circumvented by not too difficult a mental stretch. As such, I don't find it a severe enough problem to merit an "at any cost" solution, especially one that costs ME.
In a roundabout way, I basically repeated what others keep saying. It's not a problem of insufficient names, it's a problem of specific names that is solely solvable via releasing names globally, which I don't feel can be done without irritating me to high heaven.
I still say clear all the names off of people who don't have a global handle!
There's a few names I've checked on, that belong to people without a global handle. That right there, makes me say, they're not coming back.
However, I admit, that I still find names I'm suprised aren't taken (even if it's not one I want)...like RayGirl. That sounds like a great superhero name imo, I just don't have a concept for it, so instead of sitting on it, I posted it in the Virtue Name Watch Thread.
While it hasn't worked for me. I' ve given up a name before, when someone did a /getglobalname search on one of the names I did have, and they sent me a tell asking if they could have it.
I really never meant to sit on it, but I never got around to actually doing anything with that alt, so I basically was just sitting on it, so I gave it away. -
Quote:Truthfully I have to ask, have you even tried to form the ITF on your own?since they changed the epics at 20, why not change the roman costume pieces so people who don't have a supergroup, or play at odd hours or don't play with more than maybe 2-3 people can FINALLY get them, on all the characters they have (I have tons) but I can never do those taskforces. Change the rewards in task/strikeforces to be supergroup related loot and let the costume pieces finally be obtained by people like me.
I mean there's absolutely no way since the game came out and even before then when I played other mmos will my work schedule ever change or will I have enough hours on the occasional day off to get that stuff on like one or two character, let alone 17 characters.
On my days off I spend time with my family, it's a serious event as someone is very sick in my family, so computer games are out of the question.
I am just suggesting this because really the EPICS now available SO early.... when I had to earn all of them on both sides. That's fine but make these costume pieces in these strikeforces available too now and PLEASE think about changing the loot rewarded in those types of missions to people who play in big groups and have supergroups with bases that need items or recipes or whatever, I just want to finally get some well deserved costume pieces for variety that I'll never be able to get any other way.
Release the hold on those costume pieces like you did with the epic classes (which I think is a bigger deal.)
Sending tells to people lft, who's name isn't greyed out over the search menu (the name is blue). Or looked at badge channels/TF channels on whatever server your on?
ITF is one of the funnest, fastest (not including speed runs when I say this), Taskforces. And on Virtue, I see ITF's forming all the time.
Yes, you'll have those time for a bit longer ITFs (my record is 9+ hours straight on one ITF)...but usually they fall in line with 1-2 hours.
[EDIT: And I usually PuG ITF...and I run them all the time! One toon I went from lvl 35-50 in a few days as all I did was ITFs] -
Quote:DAMMIT! Now I want a Big Mac, and all the Mickey D's are closed!I can't get excited about buying a Big Mac from McDonalds since they might go on sale in April. A Big Mac sounds really good right now, but I'd hate to pay full price right now when I could wait till April to buy one for $1.00.
It's too bad, because I bet it would taste good. -
I've been with CoH for over 5 years.
STO didn't allow me to make a foxgirl alien, so I totally ignored it.
Just saying devs...no dual pistols and no fox tails will make me very very sad...WAIT A SECOND!!!

Quote:When the only /Mental powers I used were Drain Psyche, Psychic Shockwave, and Concentration...I really didn't see much redraw.I'm leaning away from Mental because I'm currently leveling one, and because I dislike the redraw aspect. A Spirit of a Dead Cop could be an easy vigilante concept for that combination though

/EM as in Elec or Energy? I seriously pondering the Energy Secondary to serve mostly as a buff for the DP Primary... Do the Energy Manip buffs invoke or avoid redraw?

If memory serves, the Posi TF was originally a 2 parter. Didn't want people to beable to do the second half without doing the first half or some such.
Sooo...is that going to be the case still?
