Dang...Powerhelm beat me to it....
"You win this time Powerhelm.....this time.......!" -
One little typo:
[ QUOTE ]
His sacrifice gave Kelly the time to recover and defeat him, ensuring so many more survived.
[/ QUOTE ]
Should probably be "...recover and defeat Protean..."
Otherwise, the his and him are confusing.
Not a big deal....but I couldn't let it go...sorry

Statesman,
There is little-to-no disagreement on these boards around the need for CoV to be "fleshed out". The problems focus more on the lack of non-PvP or base content for CoH.
Yes, many people just assumed that the patch would have a lot of CoH stuff, including me. That's our bad. Still, the amount of time there has been since significant content/design upgrades for CoH is a contributing factor to our wants/desires/assumptions.
IMO, comparing the first two issues of CoV to the first two issues of CoH is unfair.....mainly because, when CoH came out, the players were your ONLY subscribers! That is not the case now. If your plan is to treat CoV exactly as you did CoH during the first year, the plan is going to be faulty. The situations are different, and need to be planned for accordingly.
There's also the issue of "seperate content teams" and "combined issues". The players didn't make this up...they come from your team, and they suggest something somewhat different than what your new post suggests. It would probably help to get those ideas clarified.
I suspect, also, that some of the disappointment spilling out on the CoH side actually built up over the past few months. As already stated, just about every major design addition that was hinted out for CoH (skills, vehicles, arch-nemesis, power customization, weapon customization, legends system, "newspaper" missions, shields and pistols powersets) have all been "delayed", "put on the back burner", or are expected "later in the year".
So, bascially, we have NO idea what's still being worked on for CoH. Perhaps a list of the top five things currently being developed for CoH would help us. It could be updated monthly or bi-monthly, perhaps with explainations as to why things drop off or move up.
As it is right now, I have a hard time seeing what differences CoH will have in May, June, July, or Aug., and so do many others.
Otherwise, I'm glad to see the additions coming to CoV...they look fun and exciting. And, the PDP change looks interesting too. Here's hoping we get some fun events in there too.
Thanks for the time. -
Well.....an April release date may actually be good news for the CoH fans...
Perhaps the "perceived lack" of content in I7 will be balanced by a kick-[censored] 2nd Anniversary event
-
[ QUOTE ]
And combined issues? They need to finish CoV first. I think that is the dev's line of thought. Finish CoV, then start on Combined Issues.
[/ QUOTE ]
Agreed.....which is why I said many posts ago that the devs should have thought about calling I6 and I7 "CoV I1 and I2".
But, they didn't. The called CoV an expanshalone. They called I6 and I7 combined issues. So, I can't accept "you should buy CoV" as an answer to "Why isn't CoH getting as much in this update."
BTW: Sorry if it looks like I'm following you...I'm really not -
[ QUOTE ]
What's so hard about playing CoV, anyway? You can't really blame the dev's for your refusal to play it, really...
[/ QUOTE ]
"Expanshalone"
"Combined Issues"
I certainly hope that your thinking isn't the devs thinking. If their plan behind releasing issues is "you should have bought CoV in order to get the good stuff", then they misled us prior to CoV's release. And that's something I wouldn't take lightly.
I'm confident that your opinion never was, is not now, and will never be, the developers thinking. -
[ QUOTE ]
Clearly, it seems they have written off CoH players for the most part, and are totaly focused on the new cash cow of CoV.
[/ QUOTE ]
I do not see any indication of this at all...
[ QUOTE ]
Yer fired!
[/ QUOTE ]
Okay....lets talk severance package -
[ QUOTE ]
But, like I said, that's hindsight.
[/ QUOTE ] -
I concur....looks good to me.
BTW, Arctic, did you happen to get my PM? -
[ QUOTE ]
That makes a lot of sense, except during beta they said there wouldn't be seperate issues, they would be combined.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah...and that may have been a mistake on their part, PR wise. Looking at it now, it may have been better for them to say:
"After we catch CoV up with CoH, which should take about two issues, we'll do "combined" issues. But, not to worry, because CoH will have things patched in between now and I8"
But, like I said, that's hindsight.
And yeah, I'm in the same boat. Villain-wise, I'm rarin' to go....but my hero might need to take a short breather....
Unless there's an event out there somewhere. -
I said this in the thread on the training room board, but I'll repeat it here:
It might have been wiser for the devs to call these I1 and I2 for CoV, and not "combined" issues. There would have been less expectations on the CoH side. Then, we could have had I8.
Hindsight is 20/20 though. -
For some reason, I can't access that site. Never have been, and still can't.
As for the features: Granted, it's not a full list, but I am disappointed by two things....1) Still no new mission tilesets for CoH. So, by the time we get to the second anniversary, we'll still have the same old general tilesets we've had since I1. 2) No EAT's? I was really starting to ramp myself up for a Coralax.....how much longer devs?
Otherwise, it sounds like good news for CoV -
One more possible set of corrections. If the zone was known as Paragon Heights before the Rikti war, and only changed to Galaxy City after Galaxy Girl's death, then....
does it make sense that areas of the zone were known as Equinox and Constellation Row back in the 1950's?
Sure, there's nothing that says those areas could only be "astronomy" related after it became Galaxy City, but it does seem a tad bit too convienient that "Paragon Heights" had so many space related neighborhoods before the change.
Just my two cents. -
[ QUOTE ]
Except that it's the novel that is making the lame changes to background, since M1 as a WORLD WAR ONE hero is older than the novel. Therefore, since making changes to background is lame, it is the novel that is lame.
[/ QUOTE ]
That's what I was suggesting...sorry if I wasn't clear.
I thought the novel was okay, but not great. Left me with a lot of questions, even about things I thought were "established" in the game.
I sincerely hope the games "story bible" wins out over any attempts to get continuity with newer sources, like the books or CCG -
[ QUOTE ]
Y'know, reading the story bible,
[/ QUOTE ]
I don't know if that would have helped, since Galaxy City wasn't meant to be in the game.
In early beta, they only had Atlas, but then added Galaxy City to ease congestion. Which is why BAB is there instead of King's Row (his home zone).
Which might mean they didn't have any "bible" info for Galaxy City to work with. Which, in a way, is a good thing, if true, since it allows Arctic some leeway in writing about the zone.
Still, there were the badges/plaques, so your point is valid. -
Pretty nice article....although, a little less on the origin of the name, and a bit more on each section of the zone (ala the Hollows article) would have worked for me too.
So, assuming that her age stays the same with the "adjustment", Galaxy Girl fought the Rikti at age 70! Wow!
The point about M1 and the Web of Arachnos is an interesting one. I hope that the background of the game isn't being changed so that no heroes existed before Statesman's "discovery". IMO, that'd be lame. -
Sigh. How many times must we go over this devs....after you feed Gil, you have to remember to lock his cage!
*Gets taser and large net*
Okay little fella, you've had your fun. Now back to your little home you go.
(Good to see ya Gil. How are the projects coming?) -
[ QUOTE ]
Glad you liked it! Be sure to let everyone on the boards know that there will be absolutely no difference between the Korean version and the US/EU version of the game .
[/ QUOTE ]
This brings up an another interesting question. If the games are exactly the same, then the trainers in the U.S. version will also be the trainers in the Asian version....
So, where do the new "signature heroes" from that trailer go?
Will they be in a new zone or two? Or not in as trainers at all?
I had always assumed that they would take the place of some of the trainers like Brawler and Blue Shield....now I'm not so sure. -
[ QUOTE ]
First...I confirm that we're working on right now (as in pohsyb in the next room) to add CoV costume parts into CoH if you own both games....
Then we repeal the hated stealth nerf. The reason why: many well reasoned posts. It's that simple. You guys pointed out the problems.
AND now...we're changing the way Archvillains spawn. A ton of forum goers disliked adding so many AV's into missions a while back...so we've come up with a solution. If the team size and mission difficulty are ABOVE a certain level, an Archvillain spawns. Below that, players will face only an Elite Boss. If the mission is set on the first two levels of difficulty, it takes 4 heroes or more to spawn an Arch Villain. On the third level, 3 heroes or more. On the fourth level, 2 heroes. On the highest (Invincible), a solo hero will spawn an AV. Note this works in BOTH City of Heroes and Villains.
In order to incentivize larger teams, Positron is going to add a bonus to AV rewards!

"Who was that masked stranger that saved the day........"
Great stuff dev team...but have you guys thought about the ramifications? You've literally crippled the boards for a few days. There's nothing to talk about now....just quiet reflection for one and all.....
Okay, serious question now...is this stuff supposed to be coming before I7, with I7, or after I7?
Again, great work. Congrats. -

Game launch: April 30, 2004
Issue 1: June 30, 2004 (2 months)
Issue 2: September 16, 2004 (about 2 1/2 months)
Issue 3: January 4, 2005 (a little over 3 months)
Issue 4: May 4, 2005 (4 months)
Issue 5: August 31, 2005 (a little under 4 months)
Issue 6: October 31, 2005 (2 months)
Average time between issues: 2.91 months!
[/ QUOTE ]
That actually is very helpfull....I need to keep that list somewhere.
Maybe I'll add in the "events" too, since they do fill up the time between issues.
It also makes it clearer for me why I4 left a bad taste in my mouth. Not only did we not get any real story elements with it, but it was also the longest wait. -

Mid-to-late Feb. isn't good for me, I have a prior engagement....my wedding So how about we speed that up....
No....well then....can we at least get the name of I7?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Maybe... can we get an in-game wedding?
PS - Gratz!
[/ QUOTE ]
She doesn't play CoH, so no ingame ceremony for us....
but thanks for the gratz
We could start guessing the name...... -
[ QUOTE ]
Issue 7 - Tentative plan for releasing the "Feature Update" to the website is mid February - so you might as well settle in for about a month of waiting unless a dev decides to drop some hints.

As to the timeline:
Hollowing - Late 2000
Rikti War - 2002
[/ QUOTE ]
I said it when it was first mentioned, and I'll say it again....I really don't like that timeline piece.
The lead up to the Hollow's patch really made it feel like the events were taking place in the moment, not 4 years earlier.
And, what was great about that "feel" was that it led us players to believe that we were participating in the events of the game world. A lot of the games story is pre-Rikti....which is before most of our heroes came to the city. The Hollowing was one of the few post-Rikti events (with the 5th Column coup and the Shadow Shard discovery).
I humbly suggest that the timeline be reworked, and that the Hollowing be changed to the date it was actually patched into live.
Oh, and, if it stays as 2000, then this line from the article may need to be rewritten:
[ QUOTE ]
The Outcasts have plagued Paragon City for years, but in recent days have appeared to expand their power base. After the Trolls unleashed their devastating explosion under Eastgate, creating the Hollows, the Outcasts knew they couldnt let the new territory fall into their enemies hands, and so a splinter group moved into the caverns.
[/ QUOTE ]
Just my two cents -
Another nice article, especially considering I was getting overwhelmed with "numbers" talk from the responses to Statesman's answers.
I too was a bit confused, both by the base of operations note, and the reference to the Hollowing. The Hollowing was recently stated to be pre-rikti war. This article is much more ambiguous, at least to me. Can we get a confirm on when the Hollowing was. (I prefer it be an event post Rikt war myself, in line with when it really got added to the game).
Otherwise, keep up the good work Artctic...and don't forget to get an original story in there sometime too. -
Another good one Arctic. Well written, very informative...and this time, no spoilers.
I especially liked the use of the old article.
Would love to see more references to current players, if possible. Maybe at the end of one of them you could update the story a bit more and include a reference.
Otherwise, nice work. Keep it up.
