  1. Well this is absurd.

Defenders are not "needed" at any level. And we shouldn't be. If any AT "must" have another AT then this game is not a Superhero game but a City of "gimpy superheros who have to rely on others because we are so gimp" game.

What we defenders do is make everyone else better around us at what they do. This is true from the uberness of outbreak to the finality of 50.

That said, defenders don't "feel" uselful at the higher levels. So what? We are. Math geeks can show you the numbers to prove it. I just know it cause I played it. I've played a FF to 50 and a tank to 46 among others. I now know better than ever what my teamtes always told me. I made a difference. And all you high level defenders do too. If any other hero says you don't make a difference and don't want you on their team, leave em alone. There are plenty of heros who know that we are. I found it is always better and less filled with debt playing with people who either knew about the game or who were willing to learn.

The problem I see here was the battle with our own perception. I didn't always "see" the usefulness of myself. But the answer I always got back from teamates was " Agian you ask? Yes you are useful quit whining like a little school girl and don't even think of quiting the team because we want your help."
  2. MissInformed thanks for your compliment.

I did not mean for it to be inflammatory. I perhaps should have waited for all the nonsense of issue 3 bashing to die down, so that it would not appear to be yet another one.

Also I don’t think I said what was done with the issues release was below industry standard. I tried to point out that it IS industry standard to release products with known bugs, and that I would love to see that standard to be raised.

As for the lack of evidence I would rather say that I just did not want to add evidence for fear it would become a post where everyone jumps on to bash the issue.

I just wanted a post for the devs to look at and put a thought in their heads “Yeah maybe we should put out an official statement with the release, about known bugs.” Once states replied, everyone who wanted to say ill or good about issue 3 did so because they had Statesmen’s ear. (I would argue that just because States or any other dev doesn’t reply to a post doesn’t mean they don’t see it)
  3. Ok I’ll go back to beating a dead horse. I am not saying I won’t play, I never threatened to leave the game, I am not saying I hate issue 3, I am not complaining about content of issue 3 disagreeing with me. I am not saying the devs or NC soft is evil or bad for continuing the status qui of the industry.

I am asking, for them to be even better than the status quo.

That is all that is it. I am dreaming, I have my head in the clouds.

    Here is an illustration:

I rent a house; I can pay monthly or sign a longer lease. The people who I rent the house from continue to expand said house. Every few months they open up the new parts of the house that they were working on and let me habitat that area too. I love this house. One day after the owners opened up a new part of a house, I noticed some holes in the wall. Now these aren’t huge holes. And as it is a new area of the house I expect there to be problems. However then I found out that the owners knew about the holes before they let me into the new parts of the house. They a) did not fix the holes before letting me in or b) if they couldn’t or wouldn’t fix them before they let me in, they did not tell me that there were holes.

    That is my “beef.”

I did not post to discuss whether issue three is good or bad, I just want as I keep saying either release something without any KNOWN bugs or let us know there are known bugs and what they are.

For instance now knowing that glowies do not make any noise right now, when in missions I am extra careful and keep my eyes open for them. Pretty simple solution if you ask me. It will be fixed, but until it is, for me, I need to be aware of it.

If you want to complain about something else there are plenty of posts to do so. This was not intended to be one. This is not about whether the holes are huge or whether they are tiny, this is about the fact that some of the holes were KNOWN, and no warning was given.
  4. Well hold on there everyone.

Sorry I was busy at work for a while and did not have a chance to see that people actually responded to something I wrote.

In answer to Statesmen, I haven’t found crash bugs. I am sorry if what I wrote wasn’t clear and made you think I found some. I have not seen crash bugs. I in fact did not repeatedly crash with Issue 3.

Nor am I saying I found critical bugs. My point isn’t that there were critical bugs or even that there were bugs, but that there were KNOWN bugs, and no statement was made about them till after the masses started whining and yelping about how this or that bug was known years and years ago and the cow jumped over the moon and thier toon got debt.

I had no intention of whining about such things, as there are plenty of those posts out there.

I used the word broken because if there is a fix in the works then something is broken. The size of the break is not something I even wanted to touch.

The fact that many people responded repeatedly saying all the known issues were not great enough not halt the release furthers my point. We as consumers accept flawed products. Like I said it would be a totally different conversation if we didn’t but that is neither here nor there.

I was just asking that the company be better than the rest. I agree the bugs that exist are really not that bad, and most companies would release it with them. But I don’t want CoH to be like every other game out there I want it to be better. If there are known bugs don’t release it, fix them then release.

The second part of my request was that if it can not or will not happen as I stated above, that we get a post that is out when the issue is released saying here are the known issues/ bugs that we felt would not ruin the experience for you and we did not want to delay the issue any longer. Add frosty words make it sound nice, but the important thing to me is being up front with us your customers. To me this simple action would show an awful lot of respect to us.

It would also eliminate all the useless threads saying, “I told you the issue wasn’t ready! The devs are crazy for releasing it as is.”

As I said I am torn, this is a FREE update and complaining about it even in the slightest makes me feel dirty. In my opinion this is the best game I’ve ever played. It is the first MMORPG I’ve played too. From my understanding the amount of attention the Devs give all us whiners and complainers and constructive helpers on these boards is more than any other game.

But that doesn’t affect what I said. Nor am I expecting a perfect game or issue. I stated in both my posts about what I would like. I am sorry if what I said was confusing or sounded like another this issue sucks thread because it wasn’t intended to be.
  5. I am writing concerning the release of issue 3. I am not complaining about supposed nerfs or any such thing that I my think is wrong with the issue. I am writing concerning the attitude and system of the how Issues are released.

In today’s computer industry, it is standard to release products that are not fully ready. To release products knowing patches will have to be released later to fix known issues. As consumers we are forced to accept broken products. Sadly enough we do. We purchase these products continually and then belittle those who cry foul.

Companies release said products for many reasons. The main reason is because they can. Obviously if the consumers rejected their broken products they would have to stop. I unfortunately doubt that will ever happen. If the customers are willing to accept inferior products why should anyone desire to give them anything better?

Now when it comes to our FREE issues that you release for us, I am torn. After all this is something I did not really have to pay for. I pay my monthly charge to play the game as is. I am happy to do so. I think the game is great and frankly I’m pretty much addicted to the game. The fact that you as a company have made the decision to release FREE issues on a roughly 3 monthly cycle is fantastic. I thank you.

With Issue 2’s release we had problems. Frankly it was brutal when it first went live. I couldn’t even play during the first 24 hours and even after that it was pretty bad until all the patches were put out. When the decision was made public that Issue 3 was to be delayed, I was disappointed, yet relieved. I said to myself as well as to others, they will fix it before it is released to not have another issue 2 fiasco. When issue 3 was released yesterday, slightly disappointed as I was still 3.5 levels from lvl 50, I was greatly excited. Then I played it and was disappointed. We have received a broken product. There were known issues and the product was released despite them.

Now the known issues were not enough to delay the release of issue 3- because that is how the industry is run. This is not honorable nor should it be something that we as consumers swallow without a complaint. There was no posting saying here are the known issues with Issue 3, and we feel it should not hold up the release of it. It was only after the release and the complaints came that the statement was made that the known issues were not enough to delay the release.

I would respectfully simply say this. Please be better than the industry standard, and if you feel that you can’t or won’t, at least be upfront and make a statement about known issues with an issue as it is released.

I realize for a lot of reasons this won’t happen. I truly wish it would though. It would make us players happier for numerous reasons.
