Thanks Ironblade. I'll try a quick uninstall/ reinstall and if that doesn't do the trick I'll hop onto the thread you posted and explore it further.

Hmmm... looks like it might be on my side. The "fire jets" aren't showing up on my rocket boots either, and the repair thing didn't do the trick. Any other advice?

The game seems to be working fine otherwise.

I'm not sure how it happened, but my magic carpet might be a bit more magic than most. For whatever reason, I can't see it in-game. My character will be in "flying carpet pose", but they look like they're just standing on air.

Is this a known issue, or did I just get lucky?

UPDATE:

I played all last night with no changes to my game settings or my PC from when it was locking up the night before. I played the same characters in the same zones and I had no problems whatsoever. I did talk to several friends in-game that weren't experiencing the problem before, but they are experiencing it now.

I just posted about this on another thread, but add my name to the list of people that are having the EXACT same problem. I'm on the Virtue server, and have tried playing in Talos, Skyway, and Brickstown. I tried alternating characters, as I was wondering if this was somehow like the random server tray resets (some of my characters had their trays reset, some did not). Unfortunately, it seems to be a common problem with all of my characters.

I have had the problem while trying to team as well as trying to solo. At this point I've tried a Controller, a Scrapper, and a Corruptor.

My problem actually started this evening. I played last night until 2am this morning with no problems whatsoever and there have been no changes to my settings. (I even participated in Zwill's "Winter Assault on Atlas Park" on Wed night with no glitches).

I really hope this gets resolved soon.

The game has never crashed on me with any degree of regularity in the years that I've been playing it. I played last night until about 2am this morning and everything ran great. I turned my client off after I was done and have been at work all day. Nothing on my computer has changed since last night, as I'm the only person that could have made changes to it.

This evening it's taking an unusually long amount of time for CoH to connect to the the server menu, and my server. CoH is sluggish when the character list is populating (the models normally load instantly), and when I try to log in, it tells me I'm already logged in. When I try to log in a second time, it tells my I'm behind a firewall and it can't connect to the server. On the third time, it connects. This "three times to log in" issue has happened every time I have tried to log in this evening.

When I get into the game after the third try I can play fine and have no problems whatsoever until I try to zone or enter a mission, then CoH hangs.

When the game hangs it freezes at the "zone loading screen", and when I'm finally able to exit it, it shows my character on the map with a "mapserve" message. At this point in the process, though I have the "mapserve message" on the screen, I still have full access to the menu function on the game (the normal in-game UI). I can choose to exit to the desktop, which immediately exits the game, or exiting to the "character select" menu brings up a blank screen (like the one that comes up when it is retrieving your character list) but the screen never goes away, forcing me to use Task Manager to exit the program.

I've ran into 4 other people this evening that are reporting similar conditions. I'm not sure what happened between 2am this morning and 6pm this evening, but those that I've talked to have indicated that they had no problems running the game yesterday either.

I've run the repair function and am not sure what else to do. Any advice would be appreciated.
