  1. As I said earlier I use 2 purple for defence when its a huge mob and I do just fine at that. I never pop a res insps ever and mostly just combine them into purple and I use reds and yellows all the time.

And no I happen to love healing flames on auto and its been just awesome. I don't have to hammer greens to stay alive. A heal every 13 to 16 seconds is fine and does not bother me at all and the mobs die just the same.

I can already tell its much more frantic for you than it is for me.

And are you talking about putting Healing Flames on auto? That's just terrible and doesn't make a difference, you're still animating the power which equals to less killing time.
  2. Right so why the numbers then? Kinda makes it look like its order of importance and as others have posted before in this thead.. you only need one build to farm SS/Fire. The intentional point I made here is this.. people don't read anything they just look. In this case a nice numbered list of best to worst is something to look at.

Nope, you assume that I think you(others) have some agenda(although not sure what that would be.. you all get paid to convert or start people on ss/fire builds?). Not at all. But in game its hard not to notice the swelling numbers of the #1 farm type.

I am sure that a list with "no particular order" is better understood without numbers beside them becasue for all you are saying it looks much different on paper and in game atm.

Its nice that you encourage everyone to be free and choose what they like.. but if you sticky the thing I am sure most people will look at #1 and say.. ya I guess that's the best.

Maybe the list should just say "Recommended Farm Builds" or something to that effect so as not to make it confusing, if that is the true agenda.

B: You're assuming everyone helping out new guys here have some agenda to push regarding "the best is the best" rather than "the best -of- the best."

Some of us -actually- prefer to simply narrow a list of options down for a player to help them avoid potential problems with a combo because the set, despite how attractive it may be, might not have the tools to do what the prospective player wants done.

Yes, one perspective is that we limit a player's options, but the other side of the spectrum is that.. we're not saying "do this and only this," we're saying: "These options here can work very well with what you have in mind, and here are the reasons why I believe that. As for what's 'best,' that's extremely personal, and we encourage you to branch out and find your preferred set."

We don't want to keep people from playing anything in particular, but we also don't want them bashing their heads against a brick wall trying to make something do something it's not mechanically inclined to perform.
  3. This is essentially one of the problem with the game.. this past update SS/Fire is the toast of the types YAY! Wait what happned to Elec/SD.. oh ya forgot about that one, its down at #12 now. Not even top 10.

To me it makes the game so simple, cheep and boring. If you want to farm press button A and you get SS/Fire the soup de jour.

    Looks like this to me:
New dude "what's the best farmer build?"
Crusty Vet "build a SS/Fire Brute"
    New dude "that's it?"
Crusty Vet "ya just build that out and your're done"
New dude "what about the other powers and types?"
Crusty Vet "Crap! All of them..! Well you could make another type but why would you? You want the best one right?"

Well OH YA who doesn't want the best after all. And so there you are.. one choice is all you really have. So CoH fills the streets with more SS/Fire toons than any other type, cause it's the BEST. Hey man nice SS/Fire toon.. ya hey there like mines the exact same as yours.. wow cool.. ya its the best!

All the nerfing and boosting or fixing is really just so stupid. Oh I just dare someone to use build number 29 for farming. PPFFFF how dumb, who would pick that one. People just want the best.

Sorry I just think its kinda sad really that we have a list at all.

Best Farming Brutes in no particular order, except the first one:
    1. Super Strength/Fiery Aura
    2. Fire Melee/Fiery Aura
    3. Electric Melee/Fiery Aura
    4. Super Strength/Invulnerability
    5. Fire Melee/Invulnerability
    6. Electric Melee/Invulnerability
    7. Super Strength/Electric Armor
    8. Fire Melee/Electric Armor
    9. Electric Melee/Electric Armor
    10. Fire Melee/Shield Defense
    11. Super Strength/Shield Defense
    12. Electric Melee/Shield Defense
    13. Super Strength/Willpower
    14. Fire Melee/Willpower
    15. Electric Melee/Willpower
    16. Dark Melee/Fiery Aura
    17. Fire Melee/Dark Armor
    18. Super Strength/Dark Armor
    19. Electric Melee/Dark Armor
    20. Stone Melee/Dark Armor
    21. Stone Melee/Willpower
    22. Stone Melee/Fiery aura
    23. Stone Melee/Invulnerability
    24. Stone Melee/Electric Armor
    25. Claws/Dark Armor
    26. Claws/Fiery Aura
    27. Claws/Willpower
    28. Claws/Invulnerability
    29. Claws/Electric Armor

Build any of these brutes around a defensive based IO build, and your going to be a farming fiend. Now please for the sake of the forums, stop asking about the farming toons... It's very annoying... Unless your asking about a BUILD that you put together and would like critiquing on...

Anyone else that has a few farming builds I can add to the list please reply.

Again please sticky this to prevent people from asking about farming brutes...
  4. So that's why you left it out of your build right? Lets see... um oh ya "lawlz"
Hmm that must be some tight build you have there.. wow.

    Tip:
You know you can autofire that so you don't have to push a button right? That works pretty well.. cause I use it and have been happy with the results so far.

    FYI:
I also use insps like candy as I mentioned.. I just don't need as many as your toon's do to get the job done.

    I also have a Fire/SS..tank = boring

    Now we are done here.

  5. You know you should learn to read.. because if you had you would have known that as I mentioned it in my original post. Man you sure can type Lawlz good.

    Lawlz.
  6. I guess cause I can fit it in. But then I play elec/fire not SS.

Hehe .. look if you wanna use insp all the time then go ahead.. I think its more work to fuss around with it.. and well.. I don't have to.

I can play 54 +8 anywhere with my Brute and I do and all I need to pop for insps is 2 purples at the most when things get really busy.

You are not telling me anything I do not know already and again this guy's build could probably use more room for purples than having to worry about his custom fire fightin toon also making room for taking more insps for fire res as well.. hah hah ok enjoy.. whatever.

you know this game is all about give and take.. you can move the pieces around a few different ways and still get the same result. I guess if there was an ultimate way to build something then everyone would build it the same way right?

    ......

If you're doing an AE farm with fire dealing enemies, (which can be a great deal more incoming damage depending on the mish), 70% is still fine because you'll get tonnes of inspirations. Plus, at that point you're more relying on the purples that drop rather than your damage resistance.

My SS/Fire build didn't have a powerslot to waste for superfluous fire and cold resistance. Why did yours?
  7. Which ya I think it is because if you make a toon fully to fight fire(and only fire) why would you not get the fire dmg down as far as you can go?? Why worry about having to carry more insps to cover all the holes? Why not plug one then worry about the others? Maybe he could fill his tray with purples to cover any S/L or whatever or who knows what else.

So considering the build I saw ya I think it makes sense since his fire res was lower than 80%. Anyway, then you guys take it all personal like I am talking about your builds or whatever.. hehe like wrong context there. I have been talking about this guys(lyger-zero) or whatever not your builds. Maybe fire is not high on the list for you and you have your build built for a broader outlook than just fire.. well super de duper. This fire fighter this guy built could use all the fire protection he could get.

Anyway it seems logical to me and I understand there are plenty of ways to cut corners and make a simple temporary patch to solve your problem.. thats not how I like to do things.

My SS/FA farms demons fine without maxed fire res. I regularly pound the entire inspiration tray since it refills so fast so one orange puts him at max.

  10. I'd like to see how long you last in a fire farm with 70% compared to 90%. Thats the issue here.

But your can't seem to see that so what the point in wasting any more time on it. Enjoy your fine build.

I did fine with 70% res but I do even better at 90% so ya. If I decide to shoot for average I will be sure to look you up.

  14. Awe.. well I am sorry if I came on to strong there.. Any way you don't need my build to find many other examples of quality, of which there are plenty of to choose from other than this guyn this forum. Sorry, I read the thread and I was just in shock that this is was being handed out as a good advice for a build!! Just becasue you have mids does not make you an expert in building a toon.

I will tell you that playing the game and then figuring out from there what would be better, is a good way to go with your toon. If you have ever said in game.. gee I wish that toggle came up faster.. or boy I wish that heal did more healing or faster healing? Then those are good places to be in when you decide to make a toon in mids. Helps to know about what you are playing with first.

And no I don't understand why you would not cap fire... you should cap fire so you take the least amount of dmg when you do get hit.. Which would be every single time with this toon becasue he has no defence at all. I see him trying to pare the regen to help offset dmg he takes and that's one way to do it i suppose but honestly the build is all over the place and way to freakin much money for what it is. So YA CAP FIRE then you can save room in your tray for all the purple insps you will need to carry with you.

I could say alot but I'll start with this, you probably need more recharge in Fiery Embrace. Your Health slotting perplexes me as well. Why use a Numina Heal/End when you didn't put a Numina Heal in yet?
Onto Burn... Well I'm not sure what that mess is but I can't say I'd want my burn slotted like that.
  15. I don't have ninja run but ya I see what you mean about not needing hasten at all. I will post a final build but honestly that build I have now is really really good and I have no end problems at all.. none with all the toggles on. I am not even using all the procs in heal cause they are all to much for me right now but I have numina and 3 IO heals. I am also missing some recharge ones but overall I have to say this is pretty awesome. I think once I get health slotted out its going to very very good.

I think I might add self aid or something like that in place of haste and SS if you have ninja run. I also took Jump not Swift because ya you need to be able to jump over some stuff.
  16. That is awesome thanks for the help.. Any other pool powers you would have taken instead to get closer to Melee cap?

For example, Crushing Impact 5 slots for the +rech in Slash and Follow Up. Initially I'd used the slots I'd freed up to slot into the passives they ended up elsewhere except for Dodge. Melee defense is being stubborn about hitting the cap with power choices as is ..but 44.8% should be plenty good for 99.9% of PvE). Leaving Focused Accuracy toggled off as much as possible and I think you'll have trouble ever running out of endurance, toggled on you'll likely run down but very very slowly while attacking pretty much non-stop.

I am not really sure how much defence I really need or if I need any and I thought I would grab as much as I could. The Stealth proc works good but is not perfect so I kept stealth for defense and invis as more of a panic button.

    Earth/cold

So it seems like what you want to do is Hold/Debuff/Dmg. Not worry about trying to knock down but just use this for just that sequence? Use the pet to help deal dmg. Not sure what attack I would use for good AoE dmg.

    Earth/cold

Ya solo farm is not the main objective here as I normally go in a big group. But I like to be a big help in a group. All the powers for this controller are overwhelming me with all the massive buff and debuff options. To much to sift through with ColdDom I get lost.

Here is my mess in mids.. it hurts my head to look at it.

    Earth/cold

Can someone post a build that takes advantage of the build\procs\sets and so on... I have this build but really have no mental power to figure out how to build this guy into the ultimate PVE toon and part time farmer.
