Some of those running bosses seems to have superspeed slotted for "OMFG, WTH, I can't move that fast with MY travel power
" in all 6 slots.

Quote:Funny enough issue 13 was pretty packed with various things:Yes, Bill. Surely it's a known fact that MMO developers give more programmers to their 7 year old games in lieu of new projects and IPs that can expand the company.
My point still stands: every issue tends to have a focus on one kind of content. No one issue will feature content that every player with their own interests will applaud. To try to make an issue that appeals to casual players, old players, power gamers, crafters, base owners, people with altitis, people who only play one character, badge hunters, mission creators, marketers and more would result in an issue that barely throws a bone out to every sub-genre and leave no one happy.

So no I do not agree that every issue needs to have one specific focus or that you can't have an issue that appeals to multiple areas. THEY. HAVE. DONE. IT. BEFORE.
I'm sure if I looked I can find other Patch Notes like Issue 13. The issue with the RWZ revamp (I believe Weapon Customization and Power prolif was also in that issue) comes to mind.
And this was when they were the Freem 15.
Sorry FT, not buying your argument.
If you want to say they choose to flesh out the Incarnate system/GR/and Prae so as not to abandon it, and like they did after COV for redside then fine by adding lvl 40-50 content, then fine. That's a fine argument to make.
But this idea that they can't have multiple things in an Issue release to please multiple people is a FALLACY. -
Quote:This is win.I think the Devs are really missing out on an opportunity with the Lore pets. I know people/Devs can come up with rationalizations for why we only have the specific 4 choices to pick from, but at the end of the day there's still only 4 HARDWIRED choices. Limiting it to only 4 (no matter which 4) was basically a guarantee that some subset of the playerbase was going to be needlessly disappointed.
I think the Devs should have applied the "Halloween Costume" power concept to these Lore pets. The system should be designed so that we perhaps start out with 4 default Lore pet costumes but make it so that we can collect/unlock others. We are after all talking about the Almighty Well here aren't we? Why should it not be possible to have our Lore pet ultimately look ANY way we want it too using Lore pet costumes? The Devs could periodically add new Lore costumes and even make them serve as rewards for various things. The pets gamewise could keep all the same basic powers but they'd simply look more like what we want them to look like with the Halloween costume concept.
Seems reasonable to me. -
I'd argue a few of the neglected sub communities in this game have earned the right to do so seeing as how some of what they want the devs to focus on hasn't been focused on, in literally some cases, years. And from what I've seen won't be anytime soon.

Nope, it's an origin that was picked for you. Once they made all the origins come from one, origin matters even less than it ever did.

Answered your questions.
Quote:- How do you feel about the powers themselves based on the information that has been released so far, including in the sneak peaks and threads about them (here's a decent one, here's another, there are more), in terms of gameplay and how you feel about your characters having them (regardless of the lore)?
- The powers (minus the pets) are awesome. Hands down the best thing about the Incarnate system.
Quote:- How will you feel about your characters when everyone else has a significant number of extremely effective and visible powers that are similar or identical to yours? (If you are choosing to skip these powers, please instead say how you feel about everyone else having the same or similar powers)
- How do you feel about the lore concept that Incarnate powers are not really yours, but granted by/stolen from an entity that has been stated to be insane (in the issue 20 overview)?
(Though I AM glad they gave SOME kind of backstory for why guys I just beat down YESTERDAY are suddenly so suped up.) It's the worry that many people had about the RP aspect that they stated before the "story" for issue 20 was released. As others have said there are OTHER lurking threats out there. If Praetoria ends up being the Coming Storm I will be VERY disappointingly unimpressed. "They built it up with clues and all that for THIS?"
Also as others have said this backstory makes it VERY difficult to continue with the "Praetoria is morally ambiguous" vibe of GR. No it's not. It's now firmly established (GG is probably happy to be proved right) that Cole's regime is evil. Full stop. How very unoriginal storytelling.
Quote:How do you feel about your fellow heroes/villains being given/stealing these powers by/from that entity? If you plan to ignore the lore for your characters, go ahead and say so, but give your opinion on it too if you have one, please.- Do you believe that character diversity is an important part of this game in general? If so, please say why, and from the information you have so far from the sneak-peaks or the threads about them, what impact do you feel the Incarnate system will have on that diversity, and the game as a whole? If not, why not?
The Incarnate Slots will make more folks want to play at 50. That's a good thing. My fear is that it will DRY UP the lower levels for finding team mates. THAT IS bad for some servers. However, if the Incarnate Trials are pushing the devs to try HARDER to get cross server teaming going. THAT is a FANTASTIC thing. It's also gives the devs full justification so spend more of NCSOFT's money on getting cross server Leagues/Queues working.

Quote:Point taken. To be fair, we as players really have no idea how time intensive something like powerset proliferation is. For all we know, it could be as simple as copying and pasting an entry from one database to another. Or it could be a living hell that takes a team of people days on end to do one single powerset. Because of that I try to avoid making statements about how easy or hard something would be for the Devs to do.
My main point was that folks would like some of that stuff for future issues, and not have future issues have a main focus solely about Incarnates/praetoria/mary sue marcus cole is a super clown in any dimension.
With the Praetorian Hamidon out there and Cole himself I expect that future issues will have a MAJOR Incarnate portion. However, let's not forget there are plenty of content additions they can add that have nothing to do with Incarnates.
I also get why they want to beef up both Prae and the Incarnate system. Not doing so would have them being accused of abandoning yet ANOTHER system. *cough* bases, pvp *cough* -

Quote:I don't think folks are asking for it to be changed.
It would be awesome if the dev team had a faster response and turnaround time, it really would. But Issue 20 isn't going to be changed at this point, for better or worse. They've sunk far too many manhours into it already.
I think they are asking for additional things like:
some bones for bases (decorations, improvements to storage, adding an interface to have wents IN BASE, seeing as how it's now vet power)
some pvp fixes
more powerset prolif
Those three things shouldn't be too time intensive. . . But are probably too late to add to Issue 20. (Provided ofcourse that they aren't part of the unannounced features.)
-
Errr except the model they used looks exactly like the robot I just fought last week before escaping to primal Earth.
EDIT: This is ofcourse assuming it doesn't have the shimmering effect of the mobs in the first mission of the Ramiel Arc. If it does, I'll be more forgiving. But if it looks like a robot, quacks like a robot . . . -
Quote:This will sound trivial, but if all incarnate powers could be recolored, the whole personal power thing would be moot.
The pets make little sense even with lore. "I'm an incarnate, I'll reach into the well and pull out a robot!"
...wait, what?
HAHAHHAHAHA, okay THAT was funny.
And illustrates part of my issue with the system leaning so heavily on Praetorian Lore while ignoring the rest of the games 6 year+ Lore. -
heh, what if this suped up Marcus Cole is actually . . .
a Nemesis plot? -
Quote:Because they intend to create additional slots beyond the original 10.
Honest question and not trying to start an argument, but how do you see them doing this? The Well, Praetoria and the Incarnate powers are being presented as inextricably linked. You can't get the powers without connecting to the well through the Praetorians.
And a more important question is, what makes you think they will? They have yet to remove any of the other silly unnecessary story explanations for gameplay elements, in fact they expand upon them even after being told by the people who critically think about these things beyond stating "it's awesome," "it sucks" or "I don't care." Powerset proliferation didn't need a story explanation, and yet it got one, which was then expanded on. The origins didn't need any more of an in-game explanation than the character creation screen gives you, and yet they were expanded on. The medical teleportation system didn't need any more explanation than "we appropriated Rikti tech to bring heroes back from the brink of death," and yet it got its own arc. What's next? A new story arc explaining how we can change our costumes so fast?
Datamining will tell them that players are flocking to Praetorian pets in droves, either because they don't care about the backstory or RP element or consider the power upgrade worth it, or just because everybody else is doing it. They will be seen as fine. It's notoriously hard to get the devs to change anything once they've decided it's fine. -
Quote:Which is why I said it's a very specific origin. Play on words. Damn my jokes are too out there it seems. Not really.
It's already been said the Well of the Furies is responsible for opening up the 5 Origins of Power as it is. Now they're just saying it's giving you more power directly. -
Quote:Thankfully Leandro post a perfect tip for getting around that.Yes but how can NCsoft subtly advertise the existence of their other games if they don't force us to use this new unified launcher?
I'm glad because I wouldn't touch the rest of NCSoft's offerings with a ten foot pole. While wearing gloves. And a toxic waste outfit.
Yes that's how I really feel. -

Quote:Honestly this used to be my issue with the Patron Powers. Especially when it was used as a justification why we couldn't respec out of them. Thankfully the devs have evovled Sam.I am. And this is not a new argument. It is, in fact, the same argument I made about Patron Powerpools in I7. Yes, I can see why the storyline would justify us borrowing other entities' powers, my beef isn't that it doesn't make sense. My beef is with why it was deemed necessary to write a story where we had no alternate explanations but that we are borrowing other entities' powers?
I'm well aware of the story of the Well of the Furies, and to be honest, I didn't find a problem with it originally. Back before we were given a specific explanation, I tended to interpret the Well's power more as a form of "inspiration," in that it makes us better at what we do, but doesn't actually let us do new things that we wouldn't normally be able to do with our powers. I'll have to re-examine the newer storylines, but it seems like this is no longer the case.
This represents a trend in writing that I've been arguing about for years now - the game becomes less and less tolerant towards allowing us to pretend this is our story. The old Launch content was very inclusive, permitting characters of all mentalities, all motivations and types of power. The Epics we got with I1 were even better - just more powers that could easily be used to extend the ones we already had, and seamlessly so. But ever since CoV came out, the storyline has assumed more and more, decreed more and more and excluded more and more, and we keep being allowed to borrow other people's powers, and thus lie our characters to other people narratively.
Having this as an option, such as the ability to use Vanguard gear to represent yourself as a Vanguard options is indeed very good. I'll go a step further and say that I no longer have a problem with Patron pools, now that villains got access to Epics. I mean, I might want to have some characters associate with some NPC factions, sure. But having no choice in the matter... Not my thing.
As I already said, I can see them allowing us powers that come from the system but don't relate to the Mary Sue, Marcus Cole and his farts are omnipresent in every dimension, story we have going now, eventually.
Just . . . not right now. -
Quote:NOW THAT is 10 shades of awesome. From what i've seen and understood, the incarnate xp that you get unlocks the next "level" so you can then slot the powers. Once you have unlocked that level the next lot of xp automatically goes towards unlocking the next "level".
So while you wont be able to chose which order to unlock them, you can skip one entirely AFTER unlocking it. -
Quote:Which is why I said it's a very specific origin.That's a misunderstanding.
The Well of Furies isn't one origin, it is all of them. It's the reason why a rich boy whose parents got murdered trains himself to be an expert archer and kicks crime in the face, rather than pissing the family fortune away in a self destructive grief cycle. It's why a person can be born as a mutant with the ability to control fire, and not just be born with a few extra toes. It's the reason why an inventor can make a power suit, and not just a toaster. Why a scientist can be gifted with control over gravity after a lab accident, and not just end up in a hospital bed waiting to die.
Which is the whole point of the Alpha slot unlock arc.
Rather than tapping directly into the source, and thus having the source be able to tap into you. You go the other way, you become incarnate by being extra badass at what you did to reach threat/security level fifty in the first place. -

Reading my and EvilG's discussion again, I need clarify something.
There are 3 VERY distinct areas of this discussion:
The solo side, The teaming casually side (can be 8 man, but is often not), and the RAIDING/speed run side.
When I say teaming =/= social interaction I'm focused on RAIDING/speed run side. Casual teaming can infact lead to much social interaction, as there is no rush and team is going at their own pace cracking jokes, etc.
That's not the case with RAIDING or MOST (most not all) speed runs. And in RAIDING in other games that is DEFINETLY not the case from what I've experienced first hand.
Clarification off. Carry on.
