Battle through Time: Oh the Humanity! by BAKART
Doctor Epoch and his villainous future self are back at it again. This time, the year is 1937 in the final few moments of the Hindenburg.
As always, clicking the picture takes you to my deviantART gallery for a better view. You can find the artist link there.
Hope you guys like it! -
Subjective: Doesn't feel mutie to me either. This pack was a chance to amp up the weird factor and I kind of feel like what we got was some costume pieces designed to look nifty with Ultra Mode. You should have released those with I17 if that was the purpose.
Mutant is going to mean different things to different people but for me, I would have liked to see a plethora of odd assorted parts instead of complete costumes. Animal parts, alien parts, weird parts, the ability to do a cyclops-eyed creature without varying costume gyrations to hide the other two eyes, better furred options, etc.
Unfortunately, the costume changes are too cool for me to boycott this pack but I'm fairly disappointed in it. I say drop in the two costumes and the two cool (but non-mutant costume changes) as freebies and go back to the drawing board. You've missed the point of the assignment. -
Quote:They are extra-special spacey rings for extra sci-fi power!I'm not sure what the things around her ankles are. It's really unclear in the sheet.
Part of the reason I sent so many references was to bump Janet away from the game model. I've always made characters - I used to doodle them in my youth - but I can't really draw and CoH is a good outlet for that desire. Although she's in CoH, I don't really consider her a game character. If I intend to have art done of her, there are going to be changes from the game model.
Those ankle rings are part of that process and will be clearer in the finished product. -

Quote:That guy sounds like a real jerk!My own for Neurotika is the only one I have done right this very second, but I have one in the works right now that should turn out really nice, as all the bells and whistles were ordered. The client was also super-mega ultra awesome with bringing everything to the table so I could see exactly how he sees his character. But it took him quite a while to get everything together and was just a HUGE amount of information, which really highlighted how he'll get great benefit from the model sheet =)
Looking forward to doing some more! -

Quote:Thanks, LJ! I'm not artist but these will be fun to play around with in Photoshop!Actually, THERE ya go... free download by Inker Extraordinaire, Brian Denham or Danerot of DA fame. His Kirby Krackles brush, makes doing Jack Kirby a breeze...
I've actually made 3 of my own based on Jack's inks, well Joe Sinott's, but it's the same thing. Allows you all those wonderful dots, with a single stroke on the tablet.
Enjoy!
EDIT: Now for Photoshop fans, courtesy of Pascal-Verhoef of DA (a Brian convert like me), click here.
It is worth mentioning, germane to the discussion, that Kirby-style really goes beyond the mere use of the Kirby Krackle/Dots. Kirby had a very distinctive way of drawing anatomy, armor, and machinery that is still pretty unique in comic art. I never really appreciated his stuff until I got older but now I can't get enough of it. -
Quote:I'm tempted to commission it! Luckily, I'm tapped out.now THERE's a challenge: How would Kirby do Kirby?
(and yes, I automatically though of Jack "King of the Comics" Kirby when I saw this thread)
I think it was my recent commission that got Amy curious about the other Kirby. -
My psychic blaster Highbrow gets done up Kirby-style!
Taghuso is back and he's taking commissions! As always, clicking the above image will take you to my deviantART page and you can get to Tag from there.
However, since he's a friend and since he's just put out his commission shingle again, here is an extra special direct link: Taghuso's deviantART Page!
Tell him Attache sent you! -

Quote:A friend of mine gave me some gift art based off this piece and since the pose and general style was very close to Chris Butler's effort, I wanted to chat with him about it before I put it up on deviantART. He was really cool about it and I'll be putting it up here too eventually.
During the notes with Chris, he wanted me to mention that he's very grateful for the work that some of us CoHers have been throwing his way. He says that he finds the level of creativity among the players particularly inspiring and hopes to do more in the future. As I was his first CoH commission, I feel the kind words about our community deserve a little plug:
Big Chris' dA Page
If you like his style, make sure you visit his page and say hello. A talented artist and a super nice guy. He does "adorable" very, very well. -

Another Shadowshot! This time by Reginaldo Vicente!
I'd been following this artist for some time and was glad I could work this one in before the commission funds ran dry. I'm even more glad I did it now - this commission reminds me of why I love this costume so much. It really is one of my better efforts.
As always, clicking the picture takes you to my deviantART page where you can learn a little more about the character or hit the link and visit the artist. He's great! -
Quote:Yeah, some characters are just suited for caricature and Domo can definitely deliver that in spades. If I had to change anything about this picture, I would have given him a reference for a more accurate drum major jacket instead of what I have to work with in the game. Still, I love this rendering of the Cavalcader.Oh, I love the crazy-face here!
When an artist can do good, unique faces I really enjoy the work much more. From your info, it seems this really captures the spirit!

Quote:I was writing up a DD nomination For BAKART, when I found that he had one nominated 3/7/10, so any further nominations will have to wait until next month. (As their guideline says they won't give a DD to someone who's had one within 3 months.)
I'll just have to save that note until later. -
Quote:I think I'd feel weird nominating my own commission for a DD. Maybe I'll take a closer look at his other CoH commissions and nominate one of those. You could nominate him.
I nomitated Cryptcrawler for a DD and he got a much deserved one.Not sure about anyone else.
Anyway, more art!
Enter...the Cavalcader, the Grand Marshal of Malice!
My Bane VEAT gets fantastic treatment from Dominike Stanton. I think the style is perfect for a madman and I could definitely see going back to Domo for any character with a touch of the crazies.
As always, clicking the picture take you to my dA page for a better view and more background on this villain as well as a link to the artist. I originally intended him as an homage to goofy villains on the old Adam West Batman show but decided to incorporate that idea more literally based on someone's suggestion in a costume thread here on these forums.
I really love what Domo did here and he's very concise, prompt, and professional. I can't recommend him enough. -

Quote:Very very cool piece Attache! I really like how all the colors blend together but still bring out beautiful details ... that is quite an intricate piece and just ... beautiful!
Thanks, man! And I just noticed that it got Featured in the new Artwhores Anonymous group over on deviantART. That's really cool!
Honestly, I think that BAKART did such a great job, he deserves a Daily Deviation. It would be kind of cool to see some CoH fan art get a DD. Has that ever happened? -
Fantastic guide, dude! The "Ohhh...Shiny" thing has gotten to me a couple times. Thankfully, those artists were really slow in responding and I could tell them I'd moved on truthfully. You definitely want to browse through as much of their gallery you can because sometimes the piece that caught your eye and got you excited can be a bit of an aberration in their typical quality. The chance of a base hitter knocking it out of the park again for your character is dicey. I'm a newbie to this collecting thing and sometimes budget considerations mean taking a chance but I definitely look for consistently good work whenever I can.

Quote:I can't get over the level of detail myself. When I look at all that ivy and the little individual leaves, I'm just very impressed. I tossed some references at him and I think he worked like everything in and somehow made it all work together as well. If any of you live in So. Cal, you might notice Vasquez Rocks there in the background. Even if you've never been, it was essentially the location for a lot of the old classic Star Treks. Captain Kirk fought the Gorn around those rocks!Gratz again Attache. It seems like I find something new in this piece every time I look at it.
I knew it was supposed to be there and I first thought he hadn't included it. He tucked it away so nicely.
Thanks! My SG friend, the creator of Mythos Island, flipped over it too. It's her windows desktop now. It sounded like the sight of it very nearly made her cry!
I'm just very, very happy with it. BAKART is awesome. -
