The numbers and your posts speak for themselves. If you had a defensible position you would actually just show my numbers or assumptions as wrong, instead of attacking me personally.
-
Quote:Being consistently irrelevant is one thing, but could you at least be timely with your irrelevancy. Oh my god, Build Up generates huge numbers every couple of minutes! I guess blasters have to suck then.
If Black Scorpion used that argument on me I would have Second Measure slap him in the face. But Black Scorpion isn't an idiot, so I don't have to worry about that one.
I'd love to play poker with you, I can't imagine anyone being easier to read. I have also never seen anyone else so embrace the when wrong attack philosophy the way you do.
Hey your calculations suck, throw anything you can at the person who points it out, throw out irrelevancies, and go hyperbolic, hell maybe with enough of that maybe nobody will notice. -
Quote:Really ?Sometimes, knowing the numbers intimately gives you a perspective into the design you don't necessarily want to have. Question: how many targets do you need to average within the radius of AAO before it outperforms Build Up on average? Answer: slightly more than one. One??
Well I suppose
If and only if, you make many bad assumptions like people are continuously in combat and never out of it, that you can't combine build up with harder hitting longer recharging attacks to gain more from them. That the build has 0 global recharge.
Under those conditions yes that would be true.
But seeing as people do things like
Buildup + Inferno ~= 1400 points of damage
Inferno + AAO (with 1) ~= 1000 points
But you know maybe I am not being fair
Lets see how this would work with powers you can actually combine
Shield Charge + Lightning rod +AAO with 1 ~=700 points
Shield Charge + Lighning rod +build up ~= 930 points
I suppose if you are also going to regard the ability of killing all the spawn except bosses in a one two combo as valueless you could also make the case. -

Quote:Anything is easy to refute if that's your standard of refutation. That argument doesn't even pass basic sanity tests. The blaster nuke is obviously overpowered because of Build Up and Aim? Because it does more damage than the nukes in other archetypes?
Not even going to waste time doing anything more than pointing out that any attempt to counter that particular assertion would be a waste of time.
As to Lt health, as I think practically everyone else recognizes, because they read my post instead of just doodling in the margins, I actually make the argument that crashing nukes are *supposed* to kill Lts. So the trivial statement that they cannot be boosted because then they might reliably kill Lts is:
Substituting cat pictures for actually being able to construct a proof ? Well why not. -

Quote:You'd be better off trying to provoke people in MARTy thread. They don't know you.A_F, seriously? I don't understand how you took a look at this thread and thought "I know what this needs, an insulting tangent and a dose of 'blasters suck' for good measure." Have you ever considered that good attention is more enjoyable than bad attention?
Let's try this meditative exercise: Pretend Arcanaville just posted two numbers. Any numbers at all. Now, take the anger you're feeling and put it into a box. Lock this box and put the key in the attic. If you find yourself going up to that attic, just take a deep breath and count to ten. -
Quote:Because unstoppable is actualy crap? Thats no rocket science.
At the end, i care little. I got my incarnate judgement wich is far far superiour to any nuke i have.
That's really part of the problem from my point of view. The incarnate nukes are superior. Destiny isn't superior to healing aura or or speedboost, it isn't even close to the shields you can get from a sonic/ff/cold. Interface is nice but its not better than the debuffs you get from the ATs that are known for doing so. The pets arguable, when they are available they certainly are the best pets in the game but they are at most up 1/3 of the time.
Incarnate nukes turn everyone into a damage machine capable of outnuking a blaster. So when arcana talks about blaster damage being limited irrespective of how much improvement there is elsewhere she is manufacturing consent for the suck -
Quote:No, the line of argument on that would involve comparing god modes to god modes. Either way you missed the point entirely comparing a power to other powers in the set is invalid reasoning to show whether its over or underpowered just as invalid as comparing it across ats. Arguing crashing nukes are underpowered because they dont measure up to high performers in the same set is like saying one with the shield or unstoppable aren't good enough.Thats like saying tankers have 90% resistance compared to 50-60% brutes, being overpowered.
Its pretty easy to show that most blaster combinations underperform for an at that has minimal force multiplication, incredibly poor survivability and only above average damage. Switching nukes for something that is from a dps standpoint identical and will be more difficult to use is just pure bait and switch. Why not just alter the font the damage numbers are printed with to a bigger one and make the graphics flashier ? -
Quote:The rule is the problem not the blaster nukes. If you have an AT that gives up everything for damage it better get damage. Mechanical changes that have no actual benefit to the player and indeed may make the AT harder to play don't help, they just con people into the AT.I don't know what is funnier, people who rage at Arcanaville for simply stating things in a dispassionate manner, or that some people think that if you're not going out of your way to use the most inflammatory wording possible then you're trying to 'spin things'.
-
Quote:When I read these forums I often think I am talking to people from at least a different solar system. What she presented is an argument and an easily refuted one if you are actually thinking critically about what is being said.Arcana actually presented valid numbers to prove nukes are underpowered, not just the abstract whining the rest of us tend to do in chorus. Be graceful and offer a thank you rather than a flame, will you?
The counter is very simple, blast sets are standardized to have a certain level of effectiveness. If you compare the overall effectiveness of blast sets across the ATs that have them they are working as intended, if anything the availability of both build up and aim to blasters may in effect boost blaster nukes to too high a performance level relative to their counterparts in other ATs
Nova Slotted with aim and build up = 1090 points of damage
Nova on a corruptor = 480 points of damage
Nova on a solo defender = 480 points of damage
The blaster nuke is obviously overpowered its doing over double damage already, and the other ATs have same crash penalties but in general suffer more from the end drain and toggle drop.
Whats more due the nature of the game because Lieutenants have 800 or so hitpoints the blaster nuke will take out more of a spawn and reduce the post nuke threat level to the blaster by a larger amount
You can hand wave an argument in any direction you like, it may even give you insight into what is happening but it is not proof. -
Quote:I'll email you a copy of the APA diagnostic and statistical manual. I am sure you will be rectify this shortcoming, to your satisfaction in half an hour or less. You know, a lot of people are rereading this, and wondering what spin you're talking about, or what thing they are supposed to be questioning, even with the highlighting you're hoping is helpful.
This isn't a unique observation of your posts, but I often wonder if you don't know that you're crazy, or just enjoy looking crazy, or if this is a cry for help. Unfortunately, psychosis is not a diagnostic specialty of mine, so I would recommend crying for help from someone else. -
Quote:Oh just call that the unspoken rule that blasters are meant to suck and be done with it.Y
I honestly think, though, that in a game that allows Elude and Unstoppable, the tier 9s could do a lot more for blasters. But to do more, without breaking the unspoken rule that blaster offense cannot be allowed to be too powerful, irrespective of how powerful anything else already is, and without altering the powers in a way that would take enjoyment away from the people currently using them, would require some innovative design trickery.
Edit: I don't know which is more humorous to me, the lengths you go to spin things, or the fact that so many just let them pass unquestioned. -
Nice build, resistance is definately the way to go with a farming squishy. Its much easier to get the lucks to shore up your survivability than it is to get the resist insps
-
Fight enemy groups that don't have mezzes or have easily avoided mezzes. Otherwise forget about it, even positional def isn't going to help much. The first mezz will suppress your toggles and shred your defense like tissue paper
-
In general its ranged high dps. In this threads context its any high dps character.

Quote:Those work great, nothing in the world like them for putting money into friends and relatives of politicians pockets.I guess you also believe green measures are pointless because pollution still increases.
Ah, to see everything in black and white. It must be so simple, relaxing.
It must be nice to be able to believe the propaganda.
Oh just before you rant, hows solyndra doing, the national ignition facility, ITEF, or gasahol ? -
Quote:I really don't see why not, especially given some of the other offerings in the paragon store. The only reason they might not, is that it would be too blatant. So again...if getting to level 50 in five hours is within the acceptable time/reward ratio, then why not sell insta-50 buttons?
Quote:If you're getting to 50 in five hours, doing it in 2, or even 1, is really not that big of a difference.
But the dirty little secret of the whole reward/time, risk/reward blue smoke and mirrors misdirection is that even before AE you could get from 1-50 over a couple of days and using no more than a couple of hours of your time. You just had to have a decent relationship with the right people, or be willing to deal with the RMTers. -

Quote:Oh you don't think people buying an Architect License isn't going to be a revenue stream for them ?So was Dreck, judging by the number of people who were running it, and who doesn't love beating up Freaks? So were the boss farms. Heck, back before the expanded difficulty settings, fighting all bosses was the only way some characters could get a decent challenge (although not so much the Malaise goon bosses. Those were a joke.) By your reasoning, the sheer number of people running the monkey farms would have made it legitimate entertainment.
The fact is, the fire farms throw the reward/time ratio way out of whack. If they really want people to be able to get from level 1-50 in a day, they might as well sell insta-50s on the Paragon Market, since it'll have the same effect, get rid of a lot of the broadcast spam, and make them some extra money. Might as well sell influence on the market too.
The fire/farms are nowhere near the exploit farms you mention, even the lowbie farms aren't even close and we are talking order of magnitude to the past exploits. -
Quote:Thats why I said some. Even so, you are still missing the fact for large numbers of people (Judging by the sheer number of farms, and amount of plays they get) that use AE, farms are legitimate entertainment. The "Story" community is just a different community not an inherently superior community.
Hahahahaha, can't assign blame to the devs. Read this forum more before making comments like this.
I assign full blame to the devs, both for making it so easy to make and find farms and for making it so difficult to make and find anything but. However, in two years they have done nothing to make the first more difficult for any significant length of time while constantly making the second more difficult, and I'm pretty sure they have a bunch of us on ignore since it's easier than actually admitting they don't intend to do anything about the situation since there are new shinies to chase after. -
Quote:LOL
The enemies of the story writing community are not farmers, they are the devs. The devs chose to give us no means whatsoever to separate stories from farms, not to mention numerous other issues that discourage most of us from bothering to write anymore. Because of this, those who would play stories are pretty much locked out of the system, and authors are frustrated out of it.
So, at most, if it was not one person with multiple accounts, 4 people attacked you and several others. What are the odds, given the hundreds of farm arc writers, that any of the arcs you've targeted belong to those 4?
They can't take it out on the Devs. Matter of fact for some that complain it might take personality death before they could even assign blame to the Devs. -
Quote:Then I am sure you will understandOf course, I'm telling you exactly how to have fun: Do things you enjoy.
I am not telling you what those things are, because I don't know what you enjoy, but I can tell you that you will have more fun doing things you enjoy than things you hate. This is a super advanced concept for most MMO forum posters, I admit.
Quote:MHO, but MHO happens to be backed by many years of having a great time while forums were full of people complaining that the game was ruined for them.
Or for the person who goes to the buffet for steak instead of a steakhouse, its annoying when they start using condemned beef.
Edited: For clarity -
Quote:Actually, all he said was that you should do what you find fun; he did not say what that was supposed to be or implied that would be the same thing for everyone.
And in that respect, he is in fact exactly correct.Quote:Why on earth would you play the entirety of any decent MMO? -
Quote:I am glad the game has found an arbiter of how it should be played and what is fun.Why on earth would you play the entirety of any decent MMO? The entire point of the modernish MMO design is that the entire game, pretty much, is optional. You have dozens of choices, so you can do the ones you enjoy.
I'm a fan of CoH. I've never yet gotten anyone past 44. I have a second account due to running out of slots (and yes, I bought some slots too), and I still never quite get around to it. For me, buckling down and focusing on levelling a character might extend as far as trying to play that character at least once a week.
This isn't just CoH. Not comparing with other MMOs, but I'm a pretty big fan of RIFT (like, I have a special forum title over there)... And I haven't yet gotten anyone to level cap on either of my accounts.
And yet... I'm having a lot of fun. I had fun in WoW, too, even though I did maybe 10% of the endgame content that was ever around when I was. And I've never PvPd in any of these games, even though that's a huge hunk of content to many people.
That, you see, is because I understand that the point of the game is to do things you think are fun. I tend not to be well-suited to stuff like trials and leagues and whatever else, because I don't deal well with large numbers of people. I'd rather play in small groups, doing stuff like 5-player SF/TF runs. So I don't see a lot of the game...
But the parts I do see? I enjoy them. I have fun. I have gotten to be pretty firm about that one policy: If I am not having fun in an MMO, I go do something else. There are no rewards that make up for Not Having Fun.
MHO, but MHO happens to be backed by many years of having a great time while forums were full of people complaining that the game was ruined for them.
