If I pick a villain patron for my primary build then can I chose an Ancillary pp for an alternate build?

First and foremost, what does it do and what powerset does it pair well with?
My initial plan is a simple one: Beam/Energy Blaster. For a Mecha it seems fairly straightforward. Zap them at range, energy punch if they get close. The character will fly, by the way, need to use those nice wings in the costume set.
But, I'd like to hear if there's anything I should look out for, or if I should turn my attention to the Defender or Corruptor side of things. Forcefields could also be thematic, but I did Forcefields already. Don't need a second level 50 FF Defender. -
I just can't decide between elec or dark.

I gave up on stone because it was just way too slow. Also if she is a brute you really don't need to tank as you will both have taunt auras running (plus sheild tanks fine as is). Are you looking at these two choices for a theme? I have done ELA, EA, WP, and Inv and they all tank great when properly IO'ed. So if the choice was between EA and stone it would be EA hands down. Though with defence you can get from pairing with a shield brute, you may be better going for a resist set or sheild yourself (so you both get the bonus).
