  1. Folks

I want to apologise for riling people up in this thread. Re-reading my own comments I can see I flew off the handle a bit. Blame it on a bad day and a sore head.

While I understand a few - heck, maybe even most have issues with what's being discussed about the Euro launch, I have to say for me, they're not a big deal.

I've been playing CoH for months, and I expect to continue playing it in just the same way I am now for the forseeable future. To me all the talk about character transfer and stuff just doesn't really matter. As Bridger has said a few times, if you want to keep playing the game you are now... just keep playing.

But, like I said, this obviously matters a lot to some of you, so I'm gonna take it like a man, stand up and admit I'm in the minority.

Vive la revolution... of one. And keep enjoying the game.

Is there any chance that they will be all linked together, with access to all servers by all players, no matter where from? Or will the business people not listen to the majority of the people who have posted here and go ahead as planned?

    [/ QUOTE ]
What, do you mean the five people who've posted again and again how much they don't like the plans?

Yeah, you've got the makings of a popular revolution there, buddy. I think I'll start stockpiling food in the basement.

Let's face it: there are certain things NCsoft will tell you... and there are certain things they won't. Ever. No matter how much you ask. So here's my advice: wise up and stop bloody asking.

Here's an alternative plan for you: sit back and just wait. Enjoy the game. And calm the **** down. Things will happen, and we'll all wait and see what happens when they do.

BTW, those of you talking about subscription prices... Lineage II got launched in Europe recently. Have you thought of checking out the prices for that?

Or would you prefer to just keep asking over and over and over and over and over, so someone who's taken time out of their day to respond to your questions can do that again - when perhaps, just perhaps, they should be busy doing other things, like, say, launching a website?

Reading this thread is just getting tedious and annoying for me. You're asking the same things and never getting answers. Why not ask something, y'know, interesting for once?

I don't want to be forced to choose between my new US friends and a whole load of new as-yet-unmade Brit friends.

So it's sorta like, you'd like your cake, and you want to eat it, too?

Many europeans play on USA serves, till now the only problem eurpeans got is the 20 minutes-1 hour downtime for restart (and not every day). Is this a community management problem ? Until today it was not a problem... I've always found wonderful GMs and a quick response to my problems and these are more important community management problems.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Ask a non-English speaking European who'd like to play CoH if they should play on European servers or American servers.

Hmm, let's think. If they have customer support issues... who do they talk to? An American GM based in NCsoft's US offices? Or a European GM based here?

While of course NCsoft could hire multilingual GMs for the US, why even bother? It'd be easier to recruit people in Europe. Don't get me started on the difference in timezones. (BTW, wouldn't you like it that the game didn't go down about 2pm every day? Sure, it marks the end of my lunch-hour but I'd prefer to play on European servers that don't go down when I might want to play...)

There are bigger issues here than you or I are aware of - and I'm willing to bet that example (of customer support languages) is just the tip of the iceberg.

BTW, of course I read the whole thread; how would I have picked up on your insights if I hadn't?

This may be a major issue for you, but I daresay you (and everyone else here who's from Europe) will not make up the majority of potential European players. Not now... not ever. The vast majority of those players may never even care about playing on US servers.

You just happen to have a voice right now and a way to talk to NCsoft directly.

If I was you, I wouldn't squander that.

Try reading the second part of my post: why someone who'll buy the european version of CoH can't start playing with me ? Community management is simply a non issue.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Boy, I bet all the people working at NCsoft as part of their community team - CuppaJo, Aura, Tisirin and now this new guy - will be reeeeal happy to hear that community management is a 'non-issue'.

Oh, and as to why someone buying the European version can't play with you... how about this... because NCsoft said so??

    Euro servers BAD!

    [/ QUOTE ]
    And fire good, right?
  7. [ QUOTE ]
I live in Europe. I play CoH on a USA server. Why should I have to move to an Euro server ?

    [/ QUOTE ]
Try reading Bridger's first post again.

    [ QUOTE ]
... those of you who have imported the US version will not be 'forced' to buy the European edition - you're completely free to continue playing on the US servers.

    [/ QUOTE ]
There. That wasn't such a chore now was it?
  8. I've done it a few times with different characters.

Playing Creepy Crawly (I think) I helped out a guy getting pretty badly beat on by some Vazh. I called out to him in /local, but the poor guy was too busy fighting. When I saw he was starting to run away (or try to) I took down a couple of the bad guys, then when the dust settled, he thanked me for helping out and apologised that he hadn't said anything - he was too busy fighting.

Playing as Sky Pirate, if I see a big group and a character being beat on, I'll send them a /tell to ask if they want help. I tend not to interfere unless I'm specifically asked to, or if I get dragged into the fight by accident. I try to make sure I use /em salute afterwards too, given that SP is a patriotic guy.

As I run around Paragon City with one of my powers set to 'default use' (you know, with the green circle around it) I've occasionally shot at a bad guy without meaning too, usually because I've clicked on an interesting looking hero and then 'assisted' him or her by accident. I always make sure to apologise in advance if that happens, but, fingers crossed, haven't been accused of kill-stealing yet.

I guess most of the time it's not a problem because groups of 'mobs' are spaced out pretty well - but in Perez Park last night there were a couple of teams who were overlapping as we went around the zone's periphery. In this case no-one seemed to mind when everyone's mobs got mixed up into a big mess!

I really try my hardest to 'act the hero' in game, but to be honest, I see it as an extension of the way I act in real life. Without trying to paint myself as some sort of saint, I try to be considerate and never forget there's a real person controlling that hero, somewhere.
  9. LG here. I'm usually found on the Paragon City streets late in the evening.

(OOC: But that's late in the evening UK time, so adjust to suit if you're elsewhere. )
