... 5:31am ... should probably go to bed before I put others to sleep with my comments... anyway...
I like to see myself as being quite rational, but this arc deserves recognition if only for its romance! I heard people say that the only stories worth telling go along the lines of "boy meets girl, boy looses girl, boy finds girl,..." and if this is true, it would spell disaster for the general AE storylines devoit of these more emotional elements. However, I enjoyed several other stories, including MA ones bristling with creativity, and conclude it must be wrong. Emotion is not everything.
But it is important, and this is the first arc I played that effortlessly combines genuine sci-fi with deep emotions. Maybe I am just easily manipulated, but I enjoyed the ride immensely!
Now hurry and publish Act II, Mr. Turgenev! -
Thank you, to all the developers who were part of the reconsideration process, to come up with this new and fine solution, and to Statesman for staying with the issue and taking the time to write both an elaborate explanation for the increase in the difficulty of bosses, and for taking it back to the original level. Thank you for taking the concerns of the community seriously.
A lot of players will have come up with one solution or another to beat even the new bosses solo, but at least for the fire/fire blaster I play, this was a lengthy and quite surreal procedure of snipe and retreat; neither heroic nor particularly fun. It became easier with the archmage accolate, but this should not be a prerequisite for being able to finish a mission in a sensible way. In addition to supporting the lone wolfs or those logging in for only half an hour at a time, the new solution will also make it easier for those who play in a different timezone, and have a more difficult time forming up a team. Thank you! -
When damage is scaled up or down similar to the way the monster code works, a small group of level 10 players can easily kill a level 50 player. For me, role playing means that there should be a small part of common sense somewhere, and damage scaling on this, um, scale, makes none. Second, if you imagine being the level 50 player, you might just feel a bit cheated and wonder why you cared about leveling up at all, as was already pointed out. I know I would.
If you want the archnemesis relationship, it might suffice to have a system where your level can be adjusted if both parties agree. In general, however, I would much prefer the damage to be unscaled. For a limited number of zones where attacks can take place, the following solution sounds very nice to me and prevents easy griefing: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showf...view=collapsed
