Terra, would you support that additions from this point on that left the current "blue side" exactly as is while updating only red side?

    [/ QUOTE ]

I don't know about Terra, but I'd say no. Even though I'm predominantly a red-sider.

Mostly because then psycho/irrational/emo-blue siders would pop out of the woodwork like some red-siders in this thread have.

Villain side DOES need some work. There is no denying that. But making the IDIOTIC, IRRATIONAL, BASELESS accusation that the devs hate the red side will not get anything done.

    [/ QUOTE ]

The reason I would have a problem is that they have proven that they can release content for both sides at the same time.

I don’t care if it has a red slant, and that all costumes are shared

Really, all we need to do is continue to give all new powers, costumes and Power Customization (had to throw that in) to both sides, and I don’t think any one blue side would complain about a new red TF or zone, I never do them any way, so I know I wouldn’t

The big problem I had with I7 was the time it took, and the addition of some very good powers that were not shared. The rest I didn’t care about, but I can’t speak for every one as all of us like different things in the game.
  3. One questing. This is not sarcasm, just honest curiosity. How can any one say these are separate games, and should stay separate games, then n another post say the markets should be merged, which would make it even clearer that they are the same game?
  4. Dang it Emnity, what is up with you and logic? Could you stop already, you are wrecking the theme of this thread!

Seriously I had not looked at it that way when it came to combining the boards, it makes good sence.

I also play both games, red less even though I like some of the ATs far better. I just don’t get the same performance.
  5. And even here it is still a great post!

I think it fits the situation we have perfectly, I have never seen it as two separate games, but more of a game with a paid expansion. Just as I don’t see the stand alone guild wars games as separate games.

I also think there will be less and less new players who do view them as two different games, but I see that as a good thing. As time goes on we will see less and less people unhappy with the free things they are given because they will see them as one game getting better, not one getting better and the other getting the shaft.

Really I hate to fall back on this cause it is a pretty crappy thing to say, but if the game makes a player as unhappy as some posters seem, it is time to find a new game. That is the one thing that holds true here and in a table top game, if you don’t like the way the GM (Devs) run things, and playing it makes you unhappy, you leave that game. Sure try for a time to get them to see where you are coming from, and what you dislike, but if it doesn’t change to suit you, leave. I don’t to be mean, callous, or condescending, but short of buying NCsoft, and taking over CoX, there is not much you can do to fix what you dislike about this game.

I hate to see the CoX population shrink more than it has, but I also don’t see how unhappy players will help it grow.

Threads like this that are coming up more and more often are why it was a horrid idea to combine the two boards. I am hesitant to post in another of these threads because I have been told that no matter what I say it is condescending, or rude, or a combination of the two, this is an attempt to not be either.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Combining the forums actually decreased the number of such threads for some reason. Used to be the CoV forum was only ever used for people to complain about the injustice and little else.

    [/ QUOTE ]

But did they generate the massive flame wars now that the casual browsers see them? I rarely went to the Red boards because of that, now that these threads are in every one's face they are gettign more flames, and in some cases fueling the fires. Guess I should have been more clear about that.
  7. Threads like this that are coming up more and more often are why it was a horrid idea to combine the two boards. I am hesitant to post in another of these threads because I have been told that no matter what I say it is condescending, or rude, or a combination of the two, this is an attempt to not be either.

For me I would be fine with a 60/40 or 70/30 (red/blue) focus in an issue or more. What gets me angry is the 98/2% suggestion. It is possible to make an issue fun for both sides. I still say they should be merged, or cross over put in in the least.

SG missions ARE a joke compared to mayhem missions. When I can go to the isles and tear [censored] up then they will be cool. To be a copy of what Red got in mayhem missions, a hero would need to travel to the isles, tear up a small instanced zone and capture some wanted criminal, then there would be an arguement for what red side had being given to blue side.

I think shared content is what we will be seeing from now on, it allows them to split the fun for the least amount of work, and give a better product on the whole. What we may see is more moraly gray, or even evil slanted mission descriptions. Which after beta or reading on the boards many will never know. I still maintain that many people don't even read mission descriptions, or if they did them on a team and never do them again don't even see the mission descriptions.

Hazard zones suck and always have. They were used a lot in the beginning, but once the way mission bonuses were given they just died. I remember fighting for spawns in Boom town during the second week of launch, no it is dead. I really don't think adding anything that craptastic to CoV would give it a better draw, now something like Croata and Striga would be great!

As of now I don't play red side often, I don't like being a villain, but it is more because of my PC. When I get my new rig built I will play it a lot more.

Also there are things that both sides have that the other wants, I am undecided as to if that is a good thing or a bad thing.

This subject is like regen, it has reached an almost religious point in the way people feel about it. I am not sure anything can be said to those on either side to sway them, some get angry about it and let it be known (I have), and others like Terra approach it in a clam analytical manner.

All in all nothing good seems to ever come of threads like this one.

    Moving Day!

Like Jay even more now. I also have a action figure.... problem.
  9. Yea, I heard the interview, and was like "well, thats a wash." But BAB's post today is what gave me new hope. So I will keep my fingers crossed, and say my prayers
  10. Just want to touch on PC for a second. It has not been outright said, but I am hopeing that with the new staff they are adding this may see the light of day, or be added to the comming list.

BAB said in a post today that the Sky is the limit. Well, for many of us, PC is the sky, and we have been begging to touch it for a long time now. So lets keep our fingers crossed that they noticed how big a deal just weapon custamazation has been, and will make the leap into PC some time soon.

What I do dislike is all of the [censored] that it hasn't happened. Saying "They are getting something, so should I because I bought it at full price." IS entitalment, in its fullest. You did get something, you got to play the game before anyone else.

    [/ QUOTE ]

That is not what I said. At all. And I have to say, seeing someone of your obvious intelligence continue to insist that it *is* in the face of my calm correction is rather frustrating. Let me rephrase for you: It is silly not to bait customers into buying early and often. It is silly not to offer incentive to customers to buy early and often. This is why companies do it, becuase it's silly not to. It's why Ex has basically said that *they* are doing it.

If "Getting to play the game before everyone else" were considered incentive (and it's not, because it ignores the other half of the equation: "getting to pay before everyone else"), then Comcast et al would not feature buy early incentives then offer bundled discounts on those same new features down the road. And yet they do. Buying early is not a priviledge, it's a choice: smart marketers encourage the choice which earns them more profit, then offer deals down the road to grab yet more.

So don't put words in my mouth or assume you kow how I feel.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Don't twist my words and assume you know why I post, and you'll receive the same courtesy. Until then, get as given.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Ok Emnity, we are generaly saying the same thing in different terms. Let me put it simpple, not that you need it. I will be happy if they give soemthing to those who had already bought the game. As I am one of those people, I will be overjoyed.

But none the less, the entitlement that some posters put forth is getting really old. Not only here, but in in-game chat aswell, and yes it is the same tone that is used in reguards to vet rewards, so it may be an old wound for me too. That is what my orginal post was refering too. Those who complain that they did not state in the begining that the full purchaser would get something. The worst part is that even after they said somethign more is comming, people STILL complain.

As for what the other poster said, I do try not to be rude on the boards, I fail at times, but I try. Which is why I stated that I would not put it like that. Also for buying both games, I have 42 (ok so I am a day or so shy) months of vet rewards

The thing that has excited me most about this whole deal is that I can only see great things coming for all of you guys as the players of this game. And to me, that's what this is deal is all about. Making the game awesome for as many of you as we can. That was ultimately the biggest factor in my decision to leave Cryptic and join NCSoft. All of those things that we've had to push back or write off as taking too many resources to get done in the limited time frames and limited manpower. All of the bugs or QoL issues that have been lingering for what seems like forever because the programmers were too busy fixing the major bugs. All of those really big pie in the sky ideas that we've dreamed about for so long and couldn't do because there was no one who could implement them...that's all back on the table. The sky is literally the limit. It's been really tough having to make decisions on what would be the 'best bang for the buck' and I'm really looking forward to having the recourses so that won't be such a deciding factor moving forward.

    [ QUOTE ]

Not the way I would put it, but it works.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Put it as you like. Opposing buyer incentives is an sensible as opposing customer retention campaigns. It is surreal. It hinders none of the other benefits of the merged game and consolidated cost. To oppose it, especially in the vicious and juvenile terms you are supporting in the post above, is simply beyond the pale. I've yet to see one person offer up a reason NOT to allow a cosmetic nod to buying early at full price, but I've seen plenty of slander and simplistic spin doctoring into something those with the communications skills of your quoted friend above can wrap their vocabulary around. Yet not one person has stepped up and said "THIS is how supporting a buy early model will hurt the other players!" or even come close to epxlaining how a marketing model in use for decades is suddenly "nad for business".

A real reason isn't needed, you see: it more fun to do what is done above and it requires less effort. And let's face it, you guys are anonymous, you can label the other side fools and idiots all day, you can simply restate their case over and over and there are no repercussions. Lack of accountability truly is the lithmus test of the internet.

What kills me is that Ex has already issued a statement which gives a nod to the idea. It's "sekret" but something is in the pipeline... yet the kneejerk reaction continues when the devs themselves support the marketing model. How self defeating.

    [/ QUOTE ]

The reason I am not adding an argument against giving something to those who bought at full price is because I am not against it. I will be happy if they do.

What I do dislike is all of the [censored] that it hasn't happened. Saying "They are getting something, so should I because I bought it at full price." IS entitalment, in its fullest. I think alot of those feeling ripped off are the same ones who are angry about vet rewards, or have the entitalment attidue.

    [/ QUOTE ]

"Maybe if we just keep chanting the words "angry" and "entitled" it will stick...."

I didn't see what was angry or entitled about supporting buying incentives, especially when they don't in any fashion interefere with any other incentives.

But I think it's cute that people are trying so hard to avoid having to think about it in any terms that don't involve a simple-minded generalization.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Here's a simple-minded generalization for you:

Anyone complaining they're not getting bribed enough to stick with the game at this point is a greedy schmuck.

That should be clear enough, yes? Certainly more honest than begging for "buyer's incentives".

    [/ QUOTE ]

Not the way I would put it, but it works.
  15. I think alot of those feeling ripped off are the same ones who are angry about vet rewards, or have the entitalment attidue.

I bought both games preorder and have all of the special packages. I think the CoV/H give away is great, it means more people for me to play with on either side. If they also give something those who bought them both, then Great. If they do not, I will feel no different. I have had over three years of playing two great games, that is reward enough.
  16. Except this position is for the CoX line Zombie. Personaly i would be happy if they just updated the cars and trucks on the road, and made them move faster in places.

All in all, I think the good thing is that Time will not be the huge issue it was before, more people means more stuff done in the same amount of time... I hope.
  17. Thought some of you would liek to see this. One of the job listings for the New office and CoX is for an animator. Here is the job description. Take a look at the part that I bolded.

    [ QUOTE ]
    Description
NCsoft NorCal, a software game development studio focused on creating outstanding innovative Massively Multiplayer Games (MMORPGs), is seeking an exceptional Animator to work on the award winning City of Heroes franchise at their Mountain View, CA location.

This individual must be passionate about games and able to animate with creativity, strong posing and excellent timing. Exciting actions and good quality cycles are what we’re looking for in a reel. Previous game experience is a definite plus but not necessary. If hired, you will be working on a wide variety of characters, creatures, vehicles and props. Effective communication with engineers and designers is critical.

So I do think there is some good stuff comming in the future

iii) Statesman as the signature character will be determined, if I had my druthers it would be something the Community Team would acquire rights to, one can dream right?

    [/ QUOTE ]

States should continue as a signature character - and appear as such in game in missions and taskforces, etc... But he should never appear 'live' again.

But the redname? No, that too should be retired with honor.

That name and character belongs to Jack Emmert (no matter whose IP it legally is), and to see it used as a sockpuppet (no offense, I just cannot think of a better term) is an insult to him and to the collective intelligence of the players.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I am not a fan of soem of the things that went on when Jack was Boss, but I agree with Doc_Scorpion here. Leave him in game, but don't bring him to the boards again.
  19. I was a little shocked by the news. I am glad to hear that NCsoft will be adding staff, as that my give CoX the resources it needs to put in some of the things that have been in demand for a long time.

I also hope it will allow for more of a trickle in certain things like costumes, and new weapon options rather than just the issue floods.

I will say I am not so excited about a paid expansion, but I know I will buy it.

I like NCsoft, and have three of their games installed and play them on a regular basis, in truth I see this as only a good thing for CoX.

I look foward to further news in the days to come.
  20. [ QUOTE ]
didn't even mention weapon customization... which, I believe, is the best part of the Issue.

Same here. I would like to see a whole interview on WC.

I guess the only thing I dont like...which im not sure how to avoid, is that with the time travel, power leveling is now more attractive. PL up..go back get all the badges and your set.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I am not sure why this is a bad thing. If the Devs wanted to avoid it, they could just give the stuff away to start.

I am not sure so much PLing will go with it. take the Red cap dagger as an example. With my lvl 50 spines/regen scrapper, I can kill 333 of those in far under two hours, maybe even under 1. So if my friend wants that dagger for his lvl one toon, I will sk him in steel, run there or get a tp tot eh train, go to Croatoa, and get it for him/her. They not get any xp, but they will get the badge and item they want. I really have no problem with that.

LOL. You realize it was the devs saying they couldn't do it, right?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Not really, they said it would be hard, and time consuming. As stated many times, here and else wehre, tech changes. There was a point in time when we were told no wings, maybe for an EAT. Then we got them. Many people were saying no, con't be done. The devs were not saying that. I think some felt they were implying it, where others felt they were implying that it was comming. Who knows? As we don't have their work logs, none of us knows.
