Thank you, English Professor. Where would the world be without your super powers of nitpicking grammar?

[/ QUOTE ]Yeah, because we all know that disproving someone's grammar is the best way to counter their arguement instead of actually countering it.

With the introduction of inventions in I9, some people got kind of screwed with their patron. Like someone who picked Black Scorpian as a patron and got his shield lost out on the chance to slot resistance uniques on their build(assuming they didn't have any in their set either). It also kind of took out the use of trying for invention positional defense as the shield's defense would almost negate half of it.

Now with I11 it looks like the patrons are going to get even more uneven to screw people who already have them selected. Ghost Widow would take acc debuff sets and Scirroci would take end mod sets(I'm fairly certain that I heard those were both being introduced). Granted that this does depend on what if any procs and/or uniques are in those sets but judging by other stuff, I'd have to say they will include something like that. People like me who have created a toon specifically for procs will lose out if one patron can slot more procs than the others.

I just wish the devs would let us rechoose patrons. While I agreed with keeping them at first, the new issues are pushing some of the sets further and further apart from each other. My only hope is that in the flashback mode or whatever it is that I can go back in time to rechoose my Patron but from my experience with updates, there isn't much of a chance that will happen. Is there?

[/ QUOTE ]Yo X, you owe me 5 mil inf iirc.
  3. I'm happy about all this stuff, but my Thugs/Poison MM is approaching level 40 (still 32, I think ahead) and I'm not so sure I'll be picking the carbon copy powers of the very weak Patron Power Pools, which I recall Positron saying in an interview were "more powerful than hero APPs because the change is permanent and cannot be respecced out of". If changing patrons through flashback is a cheap cop-out to avoid actually buffing the PPPs themselves, and instead giving a weird 'never taking a patron in the first place' scenario, I'm just gonna say this: Band-aid on a bullet wound. Finish the surgery by actually fixing them and allowing flashback for respeccing and I'll be happy.

I'm not a negative person, I just hate it when people say things and then do something else.

    3) WOW encourages you to push the limit as a player. We are supposed to be heroes who strive to do impossible things. So why does COH punish failure with XP debt and WOW does not? Good question. WOW simply charges you an extremely affordable amount of money to repair your items. COH, not having equipment, can't do this... or can they? Actually, you can. Simply charge a small amount of fame when the player gets killed. That makes perfect sense. Your fame should go down if you are defeated - not your XP. This makes a whole lot more sense to me.

    [/ QUOTE ]

How can someone be so utterly lost?

[/ QUOTE ]I have to agree with you man. I'd think that even when being defeated and getting back up again and pushing onward and not letting defeat get you down would make your more Influential or Infamous (when you look at the currency on both sides). Actually, I think that's how it works because when you go into debt, you payoff your debt at a rate of 1/2 debt and 1/2 exp and get your normal infamy/influence rate, indicating that you're more influential/infamous because your character is showing that even if they visit the hospital, it ain't gonna stop them.

Plus, the other guy's suggestion would hurt new players, and with how outdated the manual and power descriptions are when selecting them, I think they get hurt enough as it is.
  5. If it's the alternate dimension thing, I won't buy it. Lord Recluse in the story (Actual CoV, not flashback crap) is so hell-bent on ensuring his victory that he will eliminate time periods where he loses, and if Dr Egon (oops! Did I spoil something? It's an easy arc and you kinda find out quick anyway) did try to move against Recluse, big bad spider would rip the guy to pieces.

Flashback stuff or not, I don't buy it at all. Granted, if I gt to do the arcs all over again, like Lt. Demitrovich's arc and get the temp power associated with it again, then hell yeah I'm for it.
  6. Yeah well, you might be done here with PVP, but you don't speak for everyone. We'll consider it locked when situations arise.
  7. Clearly you haven't been paying attention to your own thread, for shame.

By the way, CoH is not all about PVP, there are numerous other things to do in it.

While I don't agree with the Devs about modding I DO understand that why they have it against the EULA. They want everyone to have the SAME experience playing the game. And any unauthorized modifications could break the game for the person doing the mod and they dont want to be held responsible for anything like that not to mention be responsible for any infringement of copyrights. I DO think that they should allow players to submit mods to the DEVs and they decide wether to include it or not. I do believe that the Devs don't have a lock on how to improve COH, but they are responsible to the COH community to do their best to improve and make it more enjoyable, not to mention that their livelihood depends on people playing the game.

The Devs have a careful balancing act to do A) they can't unbalance the game as it would cause mortal damage to the game B) they cant please everyone including me all the time because we are all different

[/ QUOTE ]You're new to the game and the forums, so I'll let the whole you siding with the devs thing slide for now. The mods here that people talk about are visual and simple changes, like showing placement of badges and plaques on the map, or making the bananas of doom (spines) look like metal, rock, or something else. I saw a visual mod about two and a half years ago and it was a visual mod to the Assault Rifle and people called it the Super Soaker back then and the mod made it look like a super soaker. We're not talking a Speedhack or invincibility hack here.

He's right about one thing: The quickest way to tick off the entire player base is nerfing. Better to improve everything else than nerf anything.

Can I have some of what you're smoking? CoH is hard in high levels, never getting out of debt? Let me guess, you play a blaster on invincible that solos all the time?

CoX is way easier than WoW.

[/ QUOTE ]I have to agree with Stoney here, after I read what Et_tu_Brute said a few more times over, I have to say that he (Et_tu_Brute) is more hung-up on the 'golden age' of CoX than I am.

Although Stoney, Bot does play an NRG/NRG blaster and he rarely goes into debt, or so far as I know.

Personally, I hate PvP because of the people that it attracts. People act as if they're the elite of the elite because they can deal enough damage to kill my squishy PvE blaster. It does nothing but encourage trash-talking because they know you can't reach through the screen and slap them.

I was in Warburg where an Energy/something Tank was teamed with his Mind/Emp Troller brother. The Emp would sit in the water, where it was safe, and whenever his nigh-invincible brother would get in hot water, they'd run for each other, heal, buff, and then the emp would hit the water, and the tank would go about with his Energy Transfer/Build Up one-hit-kill. Oh, and calling them on this cheese-ball abuse of the zone was referred to as "whining".

PvP brings out the absolute worst in people, especially with an unbalanced system. PvPers ignore the enemies in the zone in a relatively pointless battle of rudeness. I always felt that the purpose of a game is to have fun, not make everyone else around you feel like garbage.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Wow, a bias due to ignorance? No, that can't be.

You may find it easy to generalize a "PvPer" simply by listening to the ingenuity of the majority "I r l33tr than u n00b l2pvp" (Oh the intelligence), but I find it easier to spot a hypocritical naysayer criticizing every player for conceited attitudes and the annoyance of bragging without addressing the problem reasonably. You have the option of complaining about it by arguing with weak points (You get killed by class "x" [Add in multiple variables, such as: how quick you were killed, how they survived better, how they ran away then came back for the assassination, etc] so you hold a personal vendetta against the class and game's intended design whether it be balanced or not). In proper terminology, that is considered "whining" even while you contradict the problem.

Every game with any relatively working PvP system have people who define egotistical behavior by seeing how they act, but you (and people who also think alike) fail to compensate for the inappropriate use of logic. Every form of competition against other humans is based on personality; You could be the guy who lost, then started posting about your hatred against a certain type of people, or you could be the guy who lost, but keeping his cool and walking it off (accepting the outcome). In the end nobody, but people with the same grudges, cares.
It's not the players fault for choosing an overplayed class in order to compete in PvP here, especially if they solely emphasized on PvP.

If the idea of PvP bothers you and hinders the fun, don't participate in it. You may find that statement repetitively told by even the most simple minded being, but it's effective in the sense it actually works in preventing the prevailing misery.

    Whose the elitist here? Right.

[/ QUOTE ]I'm not going to comment directly on what you said, since it's got conflicts of ideas on my behalf and I don't want to argue with myself.

To my point however, and I'm quoting you so I know what the hell I'm trying to talk about and not someone to debate with; is that if I want balanced PVP, I'll buy an SOE gamecard and resub on Planet Side. The issues with PVP in CoX is that most people are looking (and rightfully so) the balance of a First Person Shooter in an MMORPG. There's a bit of a problem with that right there and I'm sure you (The person I'm quoting as well as others) can figure that out.

I say we need a new Travle power to, and I vote for a grapeling hook!!! Come on that would be cool, just swinging across the city, come on we could use that for the Nat AT's to.

Honestly, the comic needed to die.

Issue 19 made me sick. Here posi, have some salvage.

    what the ?!?!
I like comics that are comics and realistic, not some cheap game copy. Where is statesman and his hostess cupcakes and kung fu grip?

The first coh series conflicted with the game definitions (like peacebringers and their true form, etc).

Sad part was, the stories had potential. If you treated it like an epic comic, instead of a cheap game tie-in, it would have been good.

I would have loved to see a serious rikti war prelude graphic novel. But they would probably say 'I need inspirations', or 'Im dead, anyone have a rez inspiration?', 'I only have training TO's', "will you PL meh?!?!', or 'oh good, I got a debt badge!'

  15. [ QUOTE ]
As a player that's bounced back and forth between CoX and Wow for the past 2-3 years, and an avid PvPer on both, I can say with certainty that this game is not alone in it's PvP woes.

Many people consider WoW to be "more balanced" than alot of games, but really it faces the same problems that are described in this thread and others in the forums. There are "perfect builds" for pvp, there are even classes(or ATs) which are better than others, both for 1v1 and team encounters(as the top ranked arena teams clearly show).

And to top it all off, the WoW devs don't respond or acknowledge even the best written and well-thought posts on their WoW forums either.

The simple truth is that today's players are not simple at all. We are intelligent, intuitive, experienced, and informed. Many of us have grown up with video games of all types, and been part of the evolution of PvP since the days of Pong(for chrissake!). And ignoring the vocalization of that experience in relatively calm and intellgent threads such as this is akin to not accepting a twenty dollar bill because it came crumpled and worn from being in your friend's pocket instead of in the form of a printed paycheck with your company's logo stamped all over it!

Dismissing player feedback from forums because "it doesn't represent the majority of the player base" is pure idiocy. If anything, the players posting on the forums are the ones your should be listening to because they're the ones that actually care enough, and are (computer)-literate enough, to post in the first place!

The biggest mistake of conventional MMO developers is assuming that they know what players want more than the players themselves. That mode of thinking will not last much longer in today's competative gaming enviornment.

Talk to us. We're NOT stupid, we WILL understand when you say no if you bother to explain it to us.

[/ QUOTE ]Might I suggest copying and pasting that lovely response and sending it to the devs inboxes roughly twice a week with receive read recipt?

I ain't kidding either, you'll get a response one way or another. The key is to be persistant with their inboxes. They'll read over these posts, but we won't know, but spam their inboxes and have the read recipt and by PlanetSide (The only decently balanced FPS MMO I've played, noted in here for issues on PVP in an MMO) you'll get a response.

Also, try having multiple people ask multiple Devs and producers about subscription numbers throughout CoX, like Pre-I3, Post-ED, etc. Check for inconsistinces(sp?).

Edit: If anyone can get numbers, try sending the PMs (via copy and paste) to me so I can look them over. I don't want posts on the boards because of locking, but I'm no fanboi who'll fabricate numbers.

  17. Do remember, a matching set of colors, costume patterns, a name, and even powersets can speak volumes. I'll get back to this later tonight and post a screenshot of my Magic origin Brute, The Tained Manhunter (The prefix is done via the 'none/the' option at creation).
  18. Never got around to editing this post, but I teamed with the very same blaster only an hour after the previous post, give or take. Turns out there wasn't a Tank, problem numer one. Problem number two was that the AV dropped down a hole (ruined office building map) where there were two extra mob spawns.

No tankers for holding agro and three spawns total? Bad for blasters, scrappers, and everyone in general. I did apologize to him since he was going for concept and not ub3r-l33t XP build.

    Cryptic starts working with Marvel.

Cryptic shuts down its own comic.

Uhhhh, somebody want to pop a quick "In no way was this decision influenced by Cryptic's partnership with Marvel Comics" in there? I'm feeling a tad paranoid today and could use the comfort disclaimer.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Well I wish I could be the one to offer that to you, but anyone that's worth their space, knows that it does. Image was founded when several high profile talents got p'od at the Big M, Top Cow is a partner company of Image, hmmm, in the words of The famous Stan Lee, " 'nuff said!" Not to mention that Cryptic has partnered up with the Big M, which presents a huge conflict of interest, considering they are a rival company.

[/ QUOTE ]Not too sure really. I do know that Marvel Universe Online will be using Xbox 360 and Windows Vista as the only two operating platforms. I don't expect it to do very well because of the Xbox 360 having issues, and I expect MUO to utterly fail because really, who wants Windows Vista?
  20. *raises hand* I'm what I like to call the End-of-Days Scrapper. My claws/regen is like the pull of evil when I play my two tanks, or my mind controller. Those three are just too slow, leaving me to want to bring about the deaths of many villians by plunging Zuvaii's Bone Claws into their chest.

I groan having to tank and actually attack too much, I then switch over to my scrapper and often hit dull pain and reconstruction with literally only a hit or two to spare... I haven't failed on timing yet.

When I encounter blasters, I tend to think they'll leave my targets alone. Oh man, am I always proven wrong, especially by many energy blasters/blappers! At times I want a mob to confuse me so I can turn around and kill that blaster just so they can see I do not need the help of some wimp who hurls knockbacks and makes me chase down the mob or they cause even more agro from both mobs and myself.

What I hate most though are Ice/Dev blasters who think they can control with their now-nerfed hold, caltrops, and all. I hate them even more when on an AV Mish they see my corpse that happened as a result of not knowing there were three groups of mobs instead of one and the blaster does the /weep emote over my body and then throws caltrops and some freezing rain-esque power over my corpse.

I had honestly hoped that he would be confused and some bug would cause him to register as an enemy so I could obliterate him.

Oh, I'm civilized when I have to be, but sometimes that bloodthirsty scrapper just roars for action and death!
  21. [ QUOTE ]
I was playing my Fire/fire brute today and couldn't help but think of the threads Ultimus starts about his. I always get a kick out of them, because it seems that the guy is really proud of his character and how it can perform, and not his own gaming skills. This makes the posts trying to sandbag Ultimus's good time all the more enjoyable to read. They're completely missing the point!

Any global xp changes, good or bad, are not the fault of Ultimus soloing Ghost Widow, or soloing anything.

Good job, Ultimus. Keep it up!

[/ QUOTE ]They get the friggin point dude. Just that when devs see that, they won't see the exp amount, they might or might nor see the inspirs or shivans, and nukes, but they sure as heck will see him as a fire/fire brute. That is what nerfs narrow down to.

Soloing or not, buffs or not, it's almost always the braggarts who cause others to fail, even if what they're bragging about is entirely separate.

So when fire/fire brutes are nerfed because Devs ended up doing narrow-minded datamining, I'll know who will be blamed even if it's just because their posts don't brag over and over about soloing impossible crap.

Yes, it is Malek from Blood Omen 1, I have the game, just can't get mind control spell.

    1) Undead, my favorite race and the one I play.

    2) Gnomes, I'd never play one but they are good for entertainment value. I laugh when I see them. Plus they were fun to punt.

    3) Blood Elves I enjoy because they remind me of High Elves from Everquest. I am glad they are part of the Horde.

    4) Dwarves I enjoy them too. Although some have the ugliest faces.

    Races I hate:

    1) The Tri-Horde on Kalimdor (People that Alpha Tested know what I mean by Tri-Horde). For those that don't, Trolls, Orcs, and Tauren. All of these races just look dumb and too primitive. Trolls look the stupidest in my opinion. I hate being allied with these guys. I would go insane if we didn't get Blood Elves.
