Quote:Hmm...Example: Gretchen Wilson's "Redneck Woman." One of my all-time favorite songs. Which is hilarious since I loathe all things red-neck (there is a difference between rural lifestyle and rednecks). But I LOVE the song because, in there, she is owning her choices, her preferences, and doing so proudly. So I respect that. Doesn't mean I'll hang out with her, because we have different tastes, but I definitely respect her on a philosophical level.

Quote:Why on earth was a lead designer of a MMO giving out autographs!?!?long time ago I went to a con over by LAX and "Statesman" was there he was signing COH stuff, got my Hero Click signed, needless it was then he did a QA for COH fans, many of the things that are coming true now where asked then. For many questions he was rather Rude and abrupt in how he answered questions.
so yes Posi had a failed interview, but what stands out for me is How Jack answered the questions, it was the moment I decided to play World of Warcrap.
and it wasn't that he said no it was his rudeness that came along with the No.
Weird. -

Recognition cannot be given a number nor a title. It varies too much from person to person for anything forum related. As I don't spend a lot of time on the main sections of the boards, I have not really heard of anyone that is always mentioned.
Recognition is between you and the person you are thanking. It has nothing to do with the wider community. If there is someone you are specifically grateful towards to the point where sending them a message isn't sufficient - then simply make a thread dedicated to them.
A lot of people that play COH are generic geek-types. As such many of them are still stuck in the "hate the popular kids" mentality. This means that anything like what the OP is suggesting will either become a popularity contest, or will become a flame-war about how it could be a popularity contest. -
Quote:Superman had to overcome your face.Nah, there's two flaws on that Superman statement.
One, Superman rarely has to "overcome" anything. Two, the lessons Superman has to teach are not just an American thing.
Granted, if you want to go back to the golden age, but heck, that Superman was so different (and was created for differerent purposes) that DC eventually retconned him into being a Superman from an alternate universe.
Your face got retconned to be from another dimension. -
I've always thought:
Superman - Extended Metaphor for America's ability to overcome anything.
Batman - Extended Metaphor for Humanity's ability to overcome anything. -
Anti-heroes, like "WWE: Attitude" belong in the 90s or in niche characters like the punisher that serve a given function. RDJ's Iron Man is the perfect example of what people are looking for in the superhero mythos: a guy who has many sides, but is ultimately a hero. He also has CHARM...something superheroes used to have. But something that no hero in comics (except Spiderman / Green Arrow and others of their ilk) seems to have because everything IS SO SUPER DUPER SRS! If half the stuff that happens in comics happened on a regular basis in the real world I guarantee people would not take it as seriously as half the superheroes do.
In a slightly unrelated note - it's my opinion that superheroes have gone from being extensions of role models to young boys, to actually being the young boys themselves. What I mean by this is that superheroes used to be all about teaching kids certain moral ideas and help them grow and be better people. Now superheroes "relate" to their audience and try to personify them.
Golden age:
Jimmy: Man if I had powers I'd kick that bully's ***!
Superhero: No Jimmy! Violence is never the answer! Great powers beget great responsabilities.
Jimmy: Jeepers mister! You're right! He's probably just angry because he is poor!
Superhero: That's right Jimmy! And as we all know...poor people are people too!
Modern Age:
Jimmy: Man if I had powers i'd kick that bully's ***.
Superhero: Morality is subjective. If you don't kill him he'll eventually kill you. I want you to believe this Jimmy, let it become the doctrine you live your life by. And upon that moment where you have the oppurtunity to kill him...I want you to wimp out in attempt to appear moralistic.
Jimmy: Wait so should I kill him?
Superhero: Yes and no. It's complicated. BECAUSE I HAVE DEPTH MY ACTIONS AND MORALES OFTEN CONFLICT.
Jimmy: So...um...what should I do?
Superhero: Look into your heart Jimmy. Only it can tell you the answers.
Jimmy: But I could do that before...you've not taught me anything!
Superhero: I DON'T UNDERSTAND PHILOSOPHY OKAY I JUST WRITE COMIC BOOKS LEAVE ME ALONE!!!!!
Jimmy: Dude you just broke the fourth wall. -
Quote:You wat you lose.Well Sorah, you will be glad to know...and find comfort in the fact...that it only gets a bit worse as you get older. LULZ
But then you kinda develop a who gives a **** attitude and laugh it all off.
So it works out in the end, unfortunately sometimes it ends up IN your end.
Oh and can you draw my doggy to look like a superherow plz kkthanxbai!!

If they nerf boss farms then they'll be forcing us to fight a larger number of weaker enemies for the same amounf of influence/tickets. This would make the game more boring. (I.e. What is boring grinding now will be EVEN MORE BORING grinding after the changes.)
I hope the super sidekicking issue is all they implement. The devs are anti-PL, not anti-influence farming. -
Quote:Hey bro. The last official thing we heard is that they're not customizable. Though I do know the devs want to at some point. Who knows, they might have managed to figure out a way since it was last mentioned.Any word on wether pool powers will be customizable? If I can make my electric armor black, but still have to have red lightning from the Mu Patron...color me mucho disappointed.
But yeah, officially so far the answer is "not yet". -
Don't be elitist Megajoule. I liked the promo. It's nice to see people making an effort at online roleplay events. Any chance one of the Knights could put together a MA arc for this event? (for those unfortunate souls, like myself, who won't be able to make it?)
Two thumbs up from me. -
This thread actualy spooked me a little bit. I'm not even being sarcastic.

Quote:I don't agree with this. Stories which focus too much towards character developement are boring, and stories which focus to much towards the plot at the expense of the characters are boring. They are not supposed to be two different styles of writing, they are supposed to be two equal parts of every story. They are supposed to compliment one another. (OMGZ NO WAI!) To me, using one without the other amounts to something as crazy as writing a story with nothing but grammatical words. (Leaving out the Lexical ones because "that's the way we do things.") It would make no sense and move for a poor story.Character conflict is more interesting than a situational problem.
Origin stories are examples of what every story should be like in comic books. The character enters the story, significant change occurs, the character exits the story. The only real changes the majority of superheros have are the moment they get their powers. After that point they basically plateau. If you are writing a story and a character is not able to undergo significant change...then let someone else be the protagonist. Let Green Lantern become a background character while "Ginger Lantern" copes with the death of his wife. I have always thought that a characters book should focus more on the characters mythos/lore than it should the character themselves.
I don't think you quite understood why I mentioned the movies. The only reason I mentioned X-Men, Watchman, and Batman Begins, was because the costumes the heroes have are all much more dark costume wise than their source material. That was the only comparison. It shows that the style of the costumes have changed. Costumes are still needed as part of the superhero mythos. "Random guy in a suit who can shoot lasers out of his eyes" is BORING. The entire concept of the costume is hard-wired to the very central theme of what superheroes ARE. They are supposed to be exaggerations of human potential. By day I am John Smith, but when I put on my mask/cape/cowl/whatever I can be ANYTHING.
Basically the sentiment of the latter part of my message was this:
Morales != Costumes.
The golden age of morales is dead, but superhero costumes have not died with them. -
Quote:Which is why marvel will one day be The OC / The Hills of the comic book world. Where no-one wears costumes, and everyone looks like normal people with powers. Sometimes I want characters to STFU about their "life story / deep troubled past" and just tell...um...the CURRENT story.Within the community of artists/creators all that jazz...I will say that the GENERAL thought of DC. vs. Marvel is that DC is more situationally driven while Marvel is more character driven.
That is a GENERAL opinion
NBC's "Heroes" is losing viewers and retro is back in fashion again. Costumes FTW. Case in point: Watchmen & X-men & the new Batman movies. Costumes can be done well, they just need to be "darkened" up for the modern age.
Anyone who's trying to pull off superpowered normal people is:
1. Not creative.
2. Trying to be like "Heroes" (that ship has sailed...)
3. Doesn't realise that a lot of other people are doing the SAME DAMN THING with the SAMN DAMN STORYLINES and the SAME DAMN CHARACTER DEVELOPEMENT.
Sorry...went off on a bit of a tangent. -

I miss the "_NA" bit. It was like I was part of a cool gang.
Thanks for the change Nivienne / Avatea. Glad to have my name back.

Quote:Your metaphor of ranged def being a fork is a good one. A blaster is like a knife, with ranged defense they have a fork also. A knife and a fork are much better at cutting a steak than a knife on its own.did you read the end of my post ? I don't care, sure you can play the way you want ...
you can also try to use a fork to cut your steak, a gun to knock someone out ... It's gonna work but it's not designed to be used like that. I did not know you were playing this blaster for a long time and usually, you'll notice that people who want rgd def are noob who thinks blasters are too weak
Anyway, have fun

Here's a build I put together for a friend. Should be able to play max level difficulty missions with it, farm with it, and probably solo some AV's. Hasten isn't perma as I didn't build this with purples. If you wanted perma hasten you'd have to invest in purple enhancements as well. If you want a build with it then let me know and i'll throw one together. I tried to keep the costs low.
With 272% regen, aid-self every 7 seconds @500 hp heal, and softcapped ranged defense...you shouldn't be dying anytime soon. The only toggle you will need to have turned on will be Hover.

If it's still going on I'll rustle up a a team and give it a go! -
